Tommie S. Colvin
Mrs. Tommie S. Colvin, age 95, lontime resident of Locust Grove, Georgia died September 3, 2007. Mrs. Colvin was a homemaker, member of the Locust Grove First Baptist Church and Women’s Club, and served in local civic and community organizations. She volunteered as a poll worker and community liason, provided services to those in need of comfort and transportation, and delivered Meals-on-Wheels. She was an avid gardener and member of the American Daylily Society.
Survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Claudia Colvin of Snellville and Jack and Dianne Colvin of Locust Grove; grandchildren, Hank Colvin and David Colvin; sister, Kathryn Mabrey; and brothers, J.B. Smith, Vernon Smith and Richard Smith, all of the metro Atlanta area.
Services were held September 6 at the Locust Grove Cemetery
with Rev. Craig Bowers officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 10 Cleveland St., Locust Grove, GA 30248. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ben Hill Maddox, Jr.
Mr. Ben Hill Maddox, Jr. age 67, of Hampton, Georgia died September 3, 2007. Mr. Maddox was born
in Lamar County the son of the late Shelby Frances Woodall and Ben Hill Maddox, Sr. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hampton. He served his country in the US Army from 1963-1969, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and restoring old cars.
Mr. Maddox is survived by his wife, Carol Maddox of Hampton; children, Leslie and Mitch Dodgen, Glenn and Connie Maddox, Melanie and Tommy Polk and Lori and Tim Collins all of Hampton; grandchildren, Tiffany Dodgen, Amber Maddox, Devan Polk, Taylor Polk, Bailey Polk and Ellea Collins; sister, Patricia Shurrett of Denver, Colorado.
Services for Mr. Maddox were held September 6 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Hardin officiating. Interment Berea Cemetery

Betty Dockery Puckett
Betty Dockery Puckett, age 76, of Ellenwood, Georgia died Monday, September 3, 2007. She was born
in Jefferson County the daughter of the late Lorenzy and Eva Bell Rogers Dockery. She retired from DeKalb Medical Center with 30 years of service.
Ms. Puckett is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roger "Dusty" and Jackie Puckett; grandchildren, April Puckett and John Puckett, all of McDonough; sister, Gladys Penino of Cleveland, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Thursday, September 6 at Flippen United Methodist Church Cemetery

Brenda Woodard Garza
Mrs. Brenda Woodard Garza, age 54, of Stockbridge, Georgia died September 4, 2007. She was born
in Nashville, Tennessee to the late James Aubrey Woodard. She served her country in the United States Army; worked for the CDC for over 30 years; and was one of Jehova’s Witnesses. Brenda enjoyed spending her time with her grandchildren and her cats.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, John Garza of Stockbridge, daughter and son-in-law, Shanna and Ezra Russell of Stockbridge; mother, Joyce Guttery of Stockbridge; brothers, James, Thomas, and Michael Guttery all of Stockbridge; sisters, Susie Guttery of Florida and Gloria Guttery of Stockbridge.

Marian Etheridge Roman
Marian Etheridge Roman, age 84, of Jonesboro, Georgia died Thursday, September 6, 2007. She was born
in Atlanta daughter of the late D.P. and Celeste Cooke. Mrs. Roman was an active member and volunteer at the First United Methodist Church in Punta Gorda, Florida. She also was a volunteer at the Charlotte County General Hospital in Punta Gorda for over 20 years. She enjoyed gardening and making floral arrangements that she donated to the hospital gift shop for sale. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin F. Benson and later, her second husband, Charles E. Roman and her son, David Benson.
Mrs. Roman is survived by her son, Steve Benson of Jonesboro; sister, Elizabeth Crowe, of Stockbridge; grandson, David Clarke Benson of Marietta; three great-grandchildren; 4 step-sons, Stephen C. Roman, Michael E. Roman, Jerald J. Roman and William R. Roman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Sunday, September 9 at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Rev. Dudley Rose officiating. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
James Anthony Brown
Mr. James Anthony “Tony” Brown, age 47 of McDonough, Georgia died September 7, 2007. Tony was born
in Atlanta to Warren Dean and Margaret Queen Brown. He was a member of the Forest Park First Baptist Church and had worked for Central Transport.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Carlynne “Lynne” Goolsby Brown; children, Anthony, Christopher, Nicolas, Alex and Tabitha Brown; mother, Margaret Fulcher; sisters, Julie and Laura Nash.

Mary Evelyn Evans Harris
Mrs. Mary Evelyn Evans Harris, age 83, of McDonough, Georgia died September 10, 2007. She was born
in Henry County to the late Edward Wilburn and Eva Estelle Bryans Evans. She was a member of the McDonough First United Methodist Church where she served as President of the Methodist Women. She retired after more than 30 years as Vice President/Office Manager for Bagby Elevator and Electric Company in Atlanta. She was a member of B & PW of McDonough. Her three sisters, two brothers and her husband William Glaze Harris preceded her in death.
Survivors are brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, Keith Brown, Janice Harris, Joe Harris and Nancy Hoard and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held September 13 from the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Dana Everhart officiating. Interment Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. Bobbie Jean (Alligood) Palmer
Bobbie Jean (Alligood) Palmer, age 76, of McDonough, Georgia died August 10, 2007. She was born
in Laurens County, Georgia the daughter of the late Susan Ruth Coleman and William McKinley Alligood. Mrs. Palmer was a member of Salem Baptist Church, formerly a member of Jonesboro First Baptist Church. She was a Home Economics teacher who continued to love baking and took great pride in her lovely home and beautiful yard. She was a loving mother, grandmother and devoted friend, a gift to all. Her greatest joy was found in giving, as the many recipients of her generosity can attest. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herman Palmer and brother-in-law, Ray Kitchens.
Mrs. Palmer is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Amy (Karl) Horstmann, Conyers, Pam (Michael) Lister, Wewahitchka, Florida; grandchildren, Meleah, Rachel, Micah, and Kate; siblings, Gerrie Kitchens, Dexter, Wickie Alligood, Suwanee; niece, Jackie (Claud) Denney, and nephew, Billy (Candy) Kitchens.

Jacquelyn Bryant Brimer
Mrs. Jacquelyn Bryant Brimer, age 79, of McDonough, Georgia died August 15, 2007. Mrs. Brimer was born
in Charlotte, North Carolina the daughter of the late Pearl Rebecca Rast and Horace Edward Bryant. She was an active member of McDonough Baptist Tabernacle. She was involved in the card ministry at the church, she enjoyed cooking and cake decorating, traveling and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She was referred to by many as “Miss Jackie” since she had been working as a caregiver in a day care for 20 plus years. Her husband, James Newton Brimer preceded her in death in 1970, a daughter, Lana Earle Winkles in 1996, grandchildren, Jacquelyn Winkles in 1974 and Heather Winkles in 1976, and a sister, Myrtle Macey.
Survivors are children, Patricia
and John Mikell of Orlando, Florida and Melissa and Grady Reagan of McDonough; grandchildren, Troy Frizzell, Todd and Dolly Frizzell, Dewey Laney, Hunter Reagan, Luke and Hannah Reagan, Heidi Reagan, and Anna Reagan; great grandchildren, Tabitha Frizzell, Tyler Frizzelli, Tristan Frizzell, Bradley Frizzell, and Christopher Frizzell.
Services for Mrs. Brimer were held August 18 at McDonough Baptist Tabernacle with Rev. James West officiating. Interment Arlington Cemetery

Valerie Webster Mitchell
Mrs. Valerie Webster Mitchell, age 91, of Hampton, Georgia died August 15, 2007. Mrs. Mitchell was born
in St. Ives, Cornwall, England the daughter of the late Mary Annie Blewett and John Barnett Webster. She was a member of Hampton United Methodist Church, the Sweet Briar Garden Club of Hampton and in her younger years enjoyed dancing. Her husband, Glenn Mitchell, preceded her in death in 1990.
Survivors are her children, Rosemary and John Maddox of Hampton, Glenn Edward and Iris Mitchell of Hampton and William Webster Mitchell of Canton; grandchildren, Lynn Leighton, John Mitchell, Beth Mitchell, Emma Hlubb and Valerie Mary Williams; and 8 great grandchildren.
Services for Mrs. Mitchell were held August 18 at Hampton United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Burgess and Rev. Charlie Green officiating. Interment Berea Cemetery

Charlotte Ann Rogers
Charlotte Ann Rogers, age 61, of McDonough, Georgia died August 15, 2007. She was born
in Sevier County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Reece and Myrtle Fox Roberts. Mrs. Rogers was a member of Salem Baptist Church. She taught school for 3 years at Wesley Lakes Elementary School where she was teacher of the year in 2006; prior to that she taught 10 years at Lee St. Elementary in Jonesboro. She loved her game boy, going to Daytona Beach, and being with her grandkids.
Mrs. Rogers is survived by her husband, Dan Rogers; daughters, Jamie Newman of Maryville, Tennessee; Becky Ford of Rockford, Tennessee; step-daughters, Lori Jackson and Kim Schwendinger, both of McDonough; sisters, Janice Frank and Joyce Fagg, both of Maryville, Tennessee; and 12 grandchildren.
