Mary Cherniski

Mary Cherniski of Greensboro, GA, formerly of Claymont, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 22, 2012, at the age of 93 at Boswell Parker Health & Rehabilitation in Greensboro. Mary devoted her life to being a loving, caring wife and mother and a wonderful homemaker. She liked to dance and give hugs and those images of her will be a happy, lasting memory to all who knew her. Mary will be dearly missed.
Mary was born on March 24, 1919, in Chester, PA, to the late Catherine and Louis Fatzinick. She married
Andrew Cherniski in 1940, and they moved with their family to Claymont, DE, in 1950 where they lived in the home Andrew built. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Claymont for more than 40 years.
In 2006 Mary moved to Lake Oconee in Greensboro, GA, with her daughter, Pat, to be closer to the rest of her family. She enjoyed the relaxing life at the lake, the many family gatherings, and she adored her great-grandchildren. She attended the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Greensboro.
In addition to her mother and father, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; daughter, Diane Rineer; brothers, Peter Fatzinick and Michael Fatzinick; and sisters, Ann Ferguson and Eve Twomey.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Chapman of Greensboro, GA, and Katherine Calhoun and husband Richard of Greensboro, GA; son, Michael Cherniski and wife Janice of Watkinsville, GA; grandchildren, Susan Pope and husband Nick of Suwanee, GA, and Linda Downey and husband Chad of Buford, GA; great-grandchildren, George and Jillian Pope and Elle and Emre Downey; son-in-law, Bill Rineer of Greensboro, GA; and sister, Kathryn Laskowski of Wilmington, DE.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28, at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Redeemer, 303 N. Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642, with The Rev. Joseph D. Greene, III officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the Activities Center behind the church. Mary’s remains will be returned to Pennsylvania and interred next to her husband at Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA.
For the past two and a half years, Mary resided at Willow Run Retirement Home and during the past month was being cared for at Boswell Parker Health & Rehabilitation. The family would like to thank the staff at both facilities for their kindness and the wonderful care extended to Mary.

Louise Evans Bryan

Alma Louise “Lou” Evans Bryan, age 84, of Athens, Georgia, formerly of Greensboro, Georgia, died Saturday, January 28, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Bogart, GA. Mrs. Bryan was born on May 9, 1927 in Anderson, South Carolina to the late Clarence Mason Evans and Dorcas Ginn Evans. In 1944 she graduated from Anderson Girls High School in South Carolina. In 1951 she married
Jesse Goodwin Bryan, Sr. of Greensboro where they lived and raised their family. In 2005 they moved to Athens to be closer to their children. She was a homemaker and a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Bryan was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro.
In addition to her husband, Jesse Goodwin Bryan, Sr. of Eatonton, GA, she is survived by a daughter, Melanie Bufford and husband Buddy of Watkinsville, GA; two sons, Jeffrey Bryan and wife Brenda of Bishop, GA and Goodwin Bryan Jr. and wife Beth of Watkinsville, GA; two sisters, Sarelle McKinley and Sharlene Burnette both of Anderson, SC; three brothers, Alvin Evans of Anderson, SC, Bronson Evans of Iva, SC and Johnny Evans of Chesapeake, VA; five grandchildren, Bryan Bufford and wife Danah, Brett Bufford and wife Karen, Kristi Bryan, Melissa Bryan and Evan Bryan; three great grandchildren, Atalie Bufford, Josey Bufford and Hudson Bufford; and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services will be held Monday, January 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Dennis Garner officiating. Kathleen Lewis Lapeyre

Kathleen (Kay) McCowen Lewis Lapeyre died at home with her family after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday morning. She was 68. She was born on May 22, 1943, in Greensboro, Georgia, the daughter of Judge Edward Lloyd Lewis and Kathleen McCowen Lewis, whose letters testify to the affection the family shared. She grew up there and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. She graduated with honors from Agnes Scott College in 1965. She met and married
Paul M. Lapeyre, with whom she moved to New Orleans and had three children. For many years Kay was active at Canal Street Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder and where she taught the Bible, and at Redeemer Presbyterian Church. She was an outstanding servant, leader, teacher, and friend. Kay passed on to her three children her lifelong love of teaching and learning. She was a member of Le Petit Salon, delighted in travel, and conversed on many topics easily, wittily, and without pretense. Her reading was extensive and her insights profound, bringing clarity to many as a teacher of the Bible.
She valued her affectionate family above all. She was the loving and devoted wife for 46 years of Paul M. Lapeyre, who survives her; the mother of Mary Kathleen, James, and Christopher; and the grandmother of Wesley, Timothy, Nathanael, Rebecca, Abigail, Emma, Rachel, and Christina. Her loving son-and daughters-in-law are the Rev. Jonathan Beck, Kathleen DeLaMater Lapeyre, and Michelle Schue Lapeyre. Her brother, Dr. Edward Lloyd Lewis of Greene County, Georgia, also survives her. Words cannot capture a spirit so bright with life and so full of the spirit of love: the family puts its hope in the Resurrection, for only so can they be fully consoled.
Visitation will be at Canal Street Presbyterian Church at 4302 Canal Street on Friday, January 20 from 10:30 to noon with a celebration of her life to follow at noon. The inurnment will be in Greensboro, Georgia on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Kay requested that donations be made to one of the churches where she worshiped and ministered throughout her life: Canal Street or Redeemer Presbyterian Churches in New Orleans, First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro Georgia, or to other community or parish outreach. Ashley Huff Brooks

Ashley Nicole Huff Brooks, age 24, of Greensboro, GA, died Saturday, July 7, 2012 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital. Born on April 16, 1988 in Athens, GA, she was the daughter of Tracey Branyan Laux of White Plains, GA and Kenneth Huff of Madison, GA. She was a 2006 graduate of Greene County High School. On April 17, 2012 she married
George Eric Brooks. Ashley was a member of Mt. Stephens Baptist Church in White Plains, GA and also attended Bethel Baptist Church in Union Point, GA. She was a packager at Quail International in Greensboro, GA. Her many hobbies were drawing, listening to music, playing on her Ipad and phone and she also loved Sponge Bob.
In addition to her husband, George Eric Brooks of Greensboro, GA, she is survived by her mother, Tracey Laux and husband Terry of White Plains, GA and her father, Kenneth Huff and wife Norma of Madison, GA; her maternal grandparents, Brenda and Jim Edwards of White Plains, GA and Linda Branyan of Monticello, GA; paternal grandfather, Ronald Huff of Madison, GA; sisters, Kendra Pursell and Jim Gardner of Carrollton, GA and Jamie Stancil and husband Lee of Crawfordville, GA; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Curtis Brooks and Janice of Greensboro, GA; great paternal grandparents-in-law, John and Margaret O’Neal of Greensboro, GA; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Jack Branyan; her paternal grandmother, Jeanette Hannah Huff; and a sister, Reagan Marie Huff.

Robert L. "Cotton" Boswell

Robert L. “Cotton” Boswell, Jr. of Greensboro, GA died on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at the age of 71 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born in Decatur, GA on December 27, 1940, the son of the late Robert Lamar Boswell, Sr. and Lillie Taylor Boswell. He graduated from Greene County High School, where he excelled in football and other sports and attended Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College until the death of his father, Robert L. Boswell, Sr. in 1962. Cotton served in the United States Army twice, once during the Berlin Crisis. He married
Mary Kay Gentry on July 17, 1966 at Liberty United Methodist Church in Greene County, GA. Since 1969 he has been in the timber and logging industry. Cotton was first employed by his father-in-law, George P. Gentry. Later he started his own logging business and in 1990 was named “Georgia Logger of the Year. He has since turned the logging business over to his sons, Farrett and George. He owned and operated Cotton’s Corner, a convenience store and restaurant, for 32 years until he sold it in 2010. In 1998 Cotton, William Coleman and Judy Hodnett bought Willow Run Retirement Home. They sold this successful business in 2011. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro joining at the age of nine on April 21, 1950.
Throughout his life, he has been a dedicated farmer, primarily of beef cattle, and an advocate of agriculture in Greene County. He was very concerned about the future of agriculture throughout the United States. He was recently given the honor of being named “Agri-Business of the Year” by the Greene County Chamber of Commerce. He served two Nathanael Greene Academy Boards and two terms as a Greene County Commissioner from 1993-1996 and again from 2003-2005, where at his request, he received no pay for his first term in office. Cotton employed many people during his working years and he was a faithful friend to many during his lifetime. All of his life, he has been a credit to his community, county and his family. Cotton always thought that growing up in Greene County was a privilege and an honor.
In addition to his wife, Kay Gentry Boswell, of Greensboro, GA, Cotton is survived by two sons, Farrett Taylor Boswell and his wife Amy of Watkinsville, GA and George Robert Boswell and his wife Sherrie of Watkinsville, GA; brother, Jamie Boswell and wife Elizabeth of Athens, GA; grandchildren, Victoria Boswell, Rob Boswell, Anna Lynn, Jeff Thurmond, Cam Thurmond, Oakley Thurmond, Cavin Collins, Mikie Collins, Summer Boswell and Cheyenne Boswell; a niece, Elizabeth Boswell; a nephew, James Taylor “Jay” Boswell and family; a number of other relatives and many, many friends.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 203 S. Main Street, Greensboro, GA with Rev. Farrett Boswell and Rev. Michael Hardy officiating. Eva Lois Statham Edwards

Eva Lois Statham Edwards, age 83, of Covington, GA, formerly of the Greshamville Community died Sunday, July 22, 2012. A native of Greene County, she was born September 26, 1928 in Greensboro to the late Joe Little Statham and Willie Mae Dial Statham. She graduated from Greensboro High School. For twenty years she worked for DeKalb County as a school bus driver. After retirement they moved back to Greene County and because of her health, she had recently moved to Covington to live with her daughter. Lois was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Greshamville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lloyd Edwards in June of 1994; a daughter, Patricia Charlene Testement; and siblings, Danny V. Statham, Joseph Lamar Statham and Wallace Statham. Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Burrell of Covington, GA and Carol Edwards of Atlanta, GA; son, William “Billy” Edwards of the Greshamville Community; 17 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held, Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 1400 Farmington Road, Madison, GA 30650 with Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Sarah Margie Franklin Amos, age 83, of White Plains, GA, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at The Oaks At Limestone in Gainesville, GA. A native of Putnam County, she was born on May 28, 1929 to the late Emory Young Franklin and Lilia May Thompson. She graduated from Putnam County High School. On October 2, 1954 she married
James H. “Sonny” Amos, who preceded her in death on December 25, 2001.
Survivors include a son Jimmy Amos and wife Mae Dean of Franklin, TN and grandchildren Carey Amos and Ryan Amos of Gainesville, GA. Siblings are Ray Franklin and wife Naomi of Eatonton, GA, Dean Franklin and wife Judy of Dawsonville, GA, Agnes Sorrells and husband Julius of Savannah, GA, and Tony Franklin and wife Maribel of Eatonton, GA. She also leaves behind many other relatives and friends.
After her husband retired from General Motors, they built a home in White Plains and moved there in 1988. She worked for Central & Southern Bank of Georgia, which is now BB&T;, as a bookkeeper. Sarah was a member of White Plains Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending church and spending time with her family and friends. Harold Theodore Moreau, Sr.

Harold Theodore Moreau, Sr. 86, of Buckhead, Georgia passed away on August 14, 2012, at Morgan Memorial Hospital in Madison, GA. He was born on February 19, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan to Theodore Edward Moreau and Beatrice LaPiere Moreau. He was raised in Detroit, Michigan where he attended Redford High School. At the age of seventeen, he entered the United States Navy and served from May of 1943 to February of 1946 in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war he began working with a jewelry store. Then he did an apprenticeship with General Motors, worked for Bratton Tool and Die and spent his last twenty years with Ford Motor Company Design Center as a metal Fabricator retiring in 1986 at the age of sixty. In 1946, he married
the former Carolyn Marie McDonald who preceded him in death in January of 2011. They made their home around Detroit in Livonia, Michigan for twenty-three years and then moved to Canton, Michigan where they lived for six years. For the last thirty-one years, he had lived in Georgia moving from Snellville to Lake Oconee in 1985 where he had resided in the Sugar Creek Community of Morgan County for the last twenty-one years. They were blessed with six children. He was a member of Christ Our King & Savior Catholic Church in Greensboro and the Knights of Columbus in Livonia, Michigan.
Mr. Moreau is survived by a daughter: Margaret Gilliam and husband Jack of Madison, GA and five sons: John Moreau and wife Natalie of Oxford, GA, William “Bill” Moreau of Toledo, OH, Richard “Rick” Moreau and wife Sherry of Grayson, GA, Harold T. Moreau Jr. and wife Jessica of Lilburn, GA and Robert “Bob” Moreau and wife Karen of Hickory, NC; 11 grandchildren: Jessica Gilliam, Victoria Gilliam, Melissa Gilliam, John Moreau, Michael Moreau, Christopher Moreau, Renee Decatur, Michelle Moreau, Lauren Moreau, Rachel Moreau and Nathan Moreau; 9 great-grandchildren: Catherine Moreau, John Carter Moreau, Evan Moreau, Andrew Moreau, Nicholas Moreau, Alex Moreau, Brandon Decatur, Brady Decatur and Ava Moreau. In addition to his wife, Carolyn McDonald Moreau, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Geogine Micale and Leona “Babe" Conrad.

Hazel Lee Faust Foster of Greensboro, GA died on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at the age of 85 at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Bogart, GA. A native of Versailles, KY she was born on August 9, 1926 to the late Marshall Foley Faust of Jessamine County, KY and Nora Stokley Faust of Woodford County, KY. She graduated from Wilmore High School in Wilmore, KY. She married
Walter Coleman Foster on August 20, 1947. Hazel was a homemaker and a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church of Versailles, KY. She had been a resident of Greene County for four and a half years, living at Del Webb. Prior to moving to Greensboro, she lived in Nicholasville, KY. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and she will be sorely missed.
In addition to her husband, Walter Coleman Foster, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Carl Brandenburg. Hazel is survived by a son, Ronald C. Foster and wife Johanna of Greensboro, GA; four grandchildren, Lauren Jung (Jared), Kelly Davis (Taylor), Mark Bare (DeAnn) and Randall Bare (Renee’); nine great grandchildren, Madeline Bare, Holden Bare, Samantha Bare, Meghan Jung, Rebecca Jung, Rachel Jung, Jacob Davis, Kate Davis and Jonathan Davis; niece, Peggy Sherman (Peter); and a number of other relatives and many friends.

Wilma Stanley Burns

Wilma Stanley Burns, age 79, of Eatonton, GA, died Sunday, July 22, 2012 at her residence. She was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky on July 19, 1933, the daughter of the late Robert Stanley and Laura Katherine Smart Stanley. She graduated from Bowling Green High School and received a degree in Commercial Art from Atlanta Area Technical School. She worked for Georgia Industry and Trade as a commercial artist. In January of 1953, she married
Neilan LaMarr Burns. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed her painting as a hobby.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neilan LaMarr Burns in March of 2010. She is survived by two sons, Robert Burns of Atlanta, GA and Raymon Burns and wife Jeanette of Eatonton, GA; two sisters, Linda Russell and Sheila Dermody both of Bowling Green, KY; three grandchildren, Jonathan Burns, Matthew Burns and Thomas Burns; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Patricia Alford Paschall

Patricia Alford Paschall, age 71, of Buckhead, Georgia died Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Serenity Place in Dublin, GA. Born April 3, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Claude Lamar “Buster” Alford, Sr. and Mary Sue Smith Alford. She attended school in Buckhead and graduated from Morgan County High School. She furthered her education graduating from Mars Hill College and Massey Business College. She was an administrative assistant for Governor Ernest Vandiver and Governor Carl Sanders at the State Capitol. On June 8, 1963, she married
Joseph Franklin “Frank” Paschall at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Atlanta, GA. After her daughter was born, she stayed at home, but later worked for the Clayton County Board of Education with the PTA. She was a longtime member of the Buckhead Baptist Church, where she was the pianist and she also enjoyed shopping and collecting antiques.
In addition to her husband of forty-nine years, Frank Paschall of Buckhead, GA, she is survived by a daughter, Kelly Paschall Stueber of Madison, GA; a brother, Claude L. Alford, Jr. of Eatonton, GA; a grandson, Franklin “Cole” Stueber; nieces, Candace Lynn Alford Wooten and husband Tom of Eatonton, GA and Claudia Leigh Alford Herald and husband Joe of Pooler, GA; and her beloved dog, “Sir Duke”.

John "Jackie" Luther Williford

John Luther “Jackie” Williford, age 65, of Greensboro, GA died Sunday, August 12, 2012 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro. Born in Washington, Georgia on December 22, 1946, he was the son of the late Luke and Mildred Farr Williford. He grew up in Union Point and attended Union Point High School. He married
the former Brenda Cook of Greensboro. Jackie drove a truck for Pennington Seed in Madison, GA. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Union Point.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Cook Williford of Greensboro, GA; mother-in-law, Dorothy Tumlin of Greensboro, GA; sisters-in-law, Catherine Caldwell, Marie Lindsey and Debbie Tumlin; brother-in-law, George Tumlin, Jr.; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Ralph Aubrey Bedley

Ralph Aubrey Bedley, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, died on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the age of 83 at his residence in Greensboro, GA surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Winchester, Massachusetts on November 2, 1928, the son of the late Freeman and Catherine D (Faulkner) Bedley. He graduated from Woburn High School in Woburn, Massachusetts and married
his high school sweetheart, Eleanor Mae Goding, sixty-four years ago and had six children. In Reading and Westboro, Massachusetts, he was the owner of Greenhouse Plantations specializing in growing sweet peas and carnations. In 1973 the family moved from Reading, Massachusetts to Georgia with the Delta/Northeast merger living in Fayetteville, Griffin and retiring to Lake Oconee in 1999. Ralph was a pilot and president of the Pilots Association for Northeast/Delta Airlines. For a number of years, he owned and operated Yule Christmas Tree Farm in Griffin, Georgia, where he was an active member of the Georgia Christmas Tree Association. After retiring to Lake Oconee, he became a volunteer for the Oconee Regional Humane Society and dedicated many hours assisting with fund raising events. He is of the Methodist Faith. He loved traveling, gardening, reading and spending time with his family and friends.
Ralph Bedley is survived by two daughters, Nancy Bedley Tkaczuk of Roswell, GA and Donna Richards and husband Anthony of Brooks, GA; three sons, Jack Bedley and wife Jacqueline of Fayetteville, GA, Thomas Bedley and wife Laura of Fayetteville, GA and Richard Bedley of Eatonton, GA; daughter-in-law, Ginny Bedley Cox of Buckhead, GA; a sister, Sally Bedley Harvey of Athol, MA; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and long time friend, Pauline Dion of Oxford, GA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Mae Bedley; son, Philip Scott Bedley of Buckhead, GA; and a sister, Janet Bedley Allen of Reading, MA.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, August 19, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at Brooks Memorial Cemetery, Price Road, Brooks, GA 30205 with Rev. Buddy Waldron officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home.
