Philip Charles Robinson

Philip Charles “Phil” Robinson, age 61 of Greensboro, GA died Monday, August 8, 2011. Born in Greensboro, GA on July 25, 1950, he was the son of Florence Roberts Robinson of Greensboro, GA and the late Claud Edgar Robinson, Jr. He was a 1968 graduate of Lithonia High School and attended the University of Tennessee. He was drafted into the United States Army and while serving in Germany, he played basketball all over Europe. While living in Lithonia, he was an insurance agent for Continental Insurance Company and Cameron and Roberts Insurance Company. After returning to Greene County, he and his father built and operated Granite Shoals Marina. Recently he was a self employed gardener. He was a huge Georgia Bulldog fan and enjoyed trout fishing.

In addition to his mother, Phil is survived by his wife Carol Cowan Robinson of Greensboro, GA; a sister, Susan R. Kelly and husband Warren of Lithonia, GA; sons, Philip Keith Robinson and wife Kasey of Greensboro, GA, Ezekiel Charles “Zeke” Robinson of Greensboro, GA and Rich Robinson and wife Michelle of Conyers, GA; daughter, Hannah Cowan of Greensboro, GA, aunt, Sara Robinson Fortson of Greensboro, GA; grandsons, Maddox Robinson and Dane Robinson; granddaughter, Shelby Rae Robinson; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Claud Edgar Robinson, III (Ed).

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Jim Martin and Father Joseph D. Greene III officiating. Carol Gentry Walker
(December 6, 1941 -August 5, 2011)

Carol Gentry Walker, 69, a native of Greene County, died on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Born on December 6, 1941 in White Plains, GA, she was the daughter of the late George Pierce Gentry and Hollis Barnes Gentry. She graduated from Greensboro High School in the class of 1959 and married Rev. Henry Grady Walker on December 5, 1959. She worked in the church alongside her husband and was a great asset to his ministry. Carol was beloved by all the congregations she and her husband served through the years. She shared her gift of music with the children’s choirs and youth groups along the way. Carol was a loving mother, a wonderful cook, and loved creating beautiful flower gardens around her home. Her yard was filled with birds, hummingbirds and other wildlife. One of her greatest joys was feeding family and friends after church every Sunday. Carol was a gracious hostess and her home was full of joy and laughter. She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church where she played the piano as a girl and then again after moving back to Greene County in 1973. She was a member of the WMU. Carol loved playing for the residents at Willow Run Retirement Home. Whatever she did was done with all her might. Carol was loved for her sweet and giving nature and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Henry Grady Walker on January 30, 2000. She is survived by two daughters, Angela Walker Deering and husband Scott of the Liberty Community and Janis Walker Fowler and husband Dicky of Thomson, GA; a sister, Kay Gentry Boswell and husband R. L. “Cotton” of Greensboro, GA; step daughter, Martha Walker Chamblee and husband Ralph of Greenville, SC; grandsons, Ben Fowler and wife Kristina and Alan Fowler; nephews, George Boswell, Farrett Boswell and families; step grandchildren, Danny Chamblee, Linda Chamblee Bundrick, Brian Chamblee, Andrew Chamblee; step great grandchildren, Lindsay, Ashley and Taylor Bundrick, Lillian, Elizabeth and Helen Chamblee, and their families; a number of other relatives and many, many friends.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Liberty United Methodist Church, 3091 Liberty Church Road, White Plains, GA 30678 with Rev. Edward A. Swehla, Rev. Farrett Boswell and Rev. Danny Chamblee officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mary Daniel Baynes
(December 31, 1920 -August 14, 2011)

Mary Daniel Baynes, age 90, of Greensboro, GA died Sunday, August 14, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Greensboro. A native of Jefferson, GA, she was born December 31, 1920 to the late Claude Young Daniel and Fay Ella Ethridge Daniel, both of Jackson County. Mrs. Baynes was a graduate of North Georgia College in Dahlonega attending from 1937 to 1939 and a graduate of the University of Georgia in Athens attending from 1940 to 1941 where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She worked as a dietician for Dodge County Hospital. After she married William Jackson Baynes, Sr., he was drafted into the Army and she moved with him wherever he was stationed. She volunteered for a number of years and served as a pink lady at Minnie G. Boswell Hospital now Saint Joseph’s East. She was a faithful Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Baynes Dye and husband Paul of Columbus, GA; sons, William Jackson “Jack” Baynes, Jr. and wife Harriette of Dublin, GA and Scott Ethridge Baynes and wife Hannah of Greensboro, GA; five grandchildren, Katy Baynes Smith and husband Kenneth of Eatonton, GA, Mollie and Emlyn Baynes of Greensboro, GA, Mark Baynes and wife Dawn of Kernersville, NC and James Dye and wife Melissa of Powder Springs, GA; five great grandchildren, Mary Ashton, Paxton, Kelsy, Brayden and Gideon Smith; many other relatives and friends; and her companion and caregiver for thirty-one years, Mary Sue Bailey. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jackson Baynes, Sr.; a son, William Daniel “Billy” Baynes; and sisters, Emlyn Daniel Barton, Rose Daniel Crawford, Nancy Daniel, Faye Daniel Blanchard and Marjorie Daniel Howland.

Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Greensboro City cemetery with Rev. Rick Hermann, Rev. Wayne Usry and Rev. Mark Baynes officiating. Pallbearers are Mark Baynes, James Dye, Kenny Smith, Jordan Knowles, David Tidwell, Paxton Smith, Brayden Smith, Gideon Smith and Christopher Bailey. James Lee Broome
(May 19, 1940 -August 7, 2011)

James L. Broome, 71, of 1720 Snug Harbor Drive, passed away surrounded by his loving family August 7, 2011. He was the son of J. C. and Eloise Broome of Beckley, West Virginia. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and Marshall University. After leaving Marshall he went to work for Walker Machinery selling earth moving equipment until he moved to Greensboro, GA with JCB, Inc. After retirement he enjoyed golf at Reynolds Landing. He was a member of the Men’s Golf Association, Elks Club, Lakeside Baptist Church and Marshall University Alumni Association. He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter, Jeanann and her husband David Briscoe, adopted son, Bruce Niday and his wife, Teresa, daughter-in-law, Brenda Broome; four grandsons, James Branson Pickett, James Bruce Broome, Nicco Niday and Bradley Dane Niday of Huntington, WV; four sisters, Henrietta Pittman of Knoxville, TN, Rebecca Bird and husband Darrell of Dublin, VA, Venila Jones of Knoxville, TN and Margie Lilly and husband Steve of China Grove, North Carolina, sister and brother-in-law, Fred and Jackie Bishop of Tega Cay, SC; brother-in-law, Mark Slack; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Harold Franklin Stewart
(January 9, 1938 -September 22, 2011)

U.S. Veteran Harold Franklin Stewart (Hal), age 73, born in Bonny Blue, Virginia on January 9th, 1938 to the parents of Henry and Mary Stewart died on Thursday, September 22nd, 2011. Upon completing high school, Hal served in the United States Navy at the age of 17. After a honorable discharge from the United States Navy, he went on to work for AT&T; in Louisville, Kentucky as a Communications Technician. It was there that he met his wife of 51 years, Betty Ann Rice. Hal and Betty would go on to raise 3 children, John F, Harold J, and Jennifer D. While working for AT&T;, Hal put himself through college at night, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois. Hal would go on to ascend 4 levels of management during his 40 years of dedicated service. Upon his retirement, Hal went on to be a very successful Telecommunications Consultant for several companies within the United States and Europe over the next 4 years.
In 2000, Hal and Betty moved to Lake Oconee, where over the next 10 years he would focus his attention on the community such as; becoming a Volunteer Fireman, First Responder, and Greene County Emergency Management Director, a position he would hold from 2002-2006. Hal is credited with establishing the Emergency Management function and enhanced the e911 center in Greene County. Through Hal’s efforts, Greene County Emergency Services continue to evolve as a result of the foundation he established. In addition, from 2007-2009 Hal and Betty took on leadership responsibilities of the Greene County Christmas Stocking Fund, a charitable organization that provides underprivileged children in Greene County with Christmas gifts during the holiday season. Hal was also an active member at the Walker United Methodist Church, where he facilitated Sunday school and took part in many functions within the church supporting the community.

Hal is survived by his sisters, Joe Bud Gibson and Mildred Summers, as well as bothers, James, Ed and Ralph Stewart, in addition his wife, 2 sons, daughter, 8 grand children and 5 great grand children. Hal will be loved and missed by all who crossed his path.

A memorial service has been set for 2:00 pm Saturday, October 1st at Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA with Rev. John Pike officiating. A. Norman Carey
(December 13, 1935 -September 17, 2011)

A. Norman Carey, 75, of Greensboro, Georgia died Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Atlanta Medical Center. Born December 13, 1935 in Madison County, he was the son of the late Buford Gwinnett Carey and Annie Lou Bennett Carey. He graduated from Ila High School in the class of 1954. In 1955 he began work for Southern Bell and retired in 1989 as Bell South Central Office Manager. He married the former Brenda Lee Knox on April 12, 1986. His hobbies were fishing and reading. He loved walks with his wife and telling jokes and funny stories. He was a member of the Walker United Methodist Church and a member of the Walker United Methodist Church Men’s Club.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Knox Carey of Greensboro, GA; sons Tim Carey and wife Katherine of Greensboro, GA and Bruce Carey and wife Beth of Conyers, GA; brothers, Everett Carey and wife Mary of Danielsville, GA, Dwight Carey and wife Faye of Hull, GA and Ronnie Carey and wife Cheryl of Watkinsville, GA; grandchildren, Ryan Carey and wife Lauren of Douglasville, GA, Erin Carey, Zach Carey, Sarah Carey and Alexa Carey all of Conyers, GA and Cody Fox of Hampton, GA; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Harold "Sonny-Boy" Fox and his wife Debbie in April of this year.

George Davis Thomas, Sr.
(December 9, 1927 -September 27, 2011)

George Davis Thomas, Sr., age 83, of Greensboro, GA passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 27, 2011. He was born in Maxeys, Georgia on December 9, 1927, the son of the late Will Howard Thomas, Sr. and Lila Freeman Thomas. He graduated from Greensboro High School and served in the United States Navy. Along with his brother, Will Howard, he owned and operated Thomas Brothers Logging and then became the owner of George Thomas Logging. He was a master of telling stories and entertaining everyone. He always had a story and a big smile for all. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro and a member of the San Marino Lodge #34 in Greensboro, where he had received his 50 year award in March of 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret West Thomas, of Greensboro, GA; his sons, George Davis “Dave” Thomas, Jr. and wife Rhonda of Greensboro, GA and Wesley Dale Thomas and wife Tena of Wilkes County; grandchildren, William Marcus Thomas, Bryan Fanning and wife Cristin Smith Fanning and Sarah Fanning; great grandchild, Marlie Fanning and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Will Howard Thomas, Jr.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 1400 Farmington Road, Madison, GA 30650 (Greshamville) with Rev. Farrett Boswell, Rev. Bunyan Evans Acree

Bunyan Evans Acree of Union Point, GA passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Greene Point Health and Rehabilitation in Union Point. He was 85. He graduated from Union Point High School and Peidmont College. Mr. Acree retired after 38 years in public education. Mr. Acree served as principal in Union Point, Loganville, Butts County, Putnam County and retired from Greene County High School. After his retirement, he served as Headmaster at Nathanael Greene Academy.
Born on April 23, 1926 to Bunyan Augustine and Susan Holmes Acree, Mr. Acree served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. At one time, Mr. Acree served on the Union Point City Council. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and served on finance, administrative council and several other committees in addition to being a lay minister.

Mr. Acree was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years Sybil Thornton Acree and his siblings, Annette Acree Woolf, Martha Acree Cason, John Thomas Acree, and Isabelle Acree Cofer. Mr. Acree is survived by two nieces, Louise Cason Bentley and husband Frank and Evelyn Acree; two nephews, Al Cason and Herb Acree; and several great nieces and nephews including his great niece/companion Cason White.

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 714 Park Avenue, Union Point, GA 30669 Thursday, September 22, 2011 with Rev. Bert Mathews officiating. Benjamin Michael Hurrell
(August 23, 1971 -September 26, 2011)

Benjamin Michael “Ben” Hurrell, age 40, of Bishop, GA, died, Monday, September 26, 2011 at his residence. He was born on August 23, 1971 in Athens, GA to Dorothy Frances Poss and the late Clarence Hurrell, Jr. He attended Greene County High School and started his working career with Smith Chevron in Athens, where he worked for a number of years. For the last ten years, he has worked as the owner and operator of EZ Towing and Repair. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed riding motorcycles, four wheelers, and fishing. He also enjoyed watching Nascar racing and football games with his son and coaching his son football. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, brother and friend.
In addition to his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Philip Golson of Greensboro, GA, Ben is survived by his wife, Sheila Shelton Hurrell of Bishop, GA, a daughter, Samantha Nichole Hurrell of Bishop, GA; a son, Cameron Michael Hurrell of Bishop, GA; sisters, Debbie Gwenett Hardin and husband Jay of Danielsville, GA and Linda Dianne Mansfield and husband Mark of Gallion, OH; brother, Jerry Dwayne Golson of Greensboro, GA ; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lurlene and Jackie Shelton of Greensboro, GA; brother-in-law, Steve Shelton; seven nieces and nephews; a great nephew; and many other relatives and friends.

Steve Lee Bedsole
(December 2, 1956 -September 29, 2011)

Steve Lee Bedsole, age 54, of Greensboro, GA passed away at his home on Thursday, September 29, 2011. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born in Greensboro on December 2, 1956, the son of Nina Stanley Bedsole of Greensboro and the late Holland Goodwin “Holly” Bedsole. He graduated from Greene County High School and married the former Gail Whitehead of Penfield on November 16, 1985. He worked for Hometown Manufacturing, Stewart Apparel and Moon’s Super Market all in Greensboro and Bedsole Store in Sparta. He loved NASCAR racing, going to the beach with his family, putting together puzzles, playing cards with his family and friends and especially loved his grandchildren. In his later years he spent lots of time enjoying his front porch watching birds, as well as giving his beloved pets, Hayley and Boo Boo lots of attention and treats.
In addition to his mother, Nina Stanley Bedsole of Greensboro, he is survived by his wife, Gail Whitehead Bedsole of Greensboro, GA; daughter, Chris Garcia and husband David of Athens, GA; son Alan Bedsole of Greensboro, GA; sister, June Bedsole of Greensboro, GA; mother-in-law, Minnie Whitehead; sister-in-law, Carol Harris; aunt, Barbara Overton; grandchildren, Corey Alan Bedsole and Daniel Garcia; seven nieces and nephews, and a number of great nieces and great nephews; three “grand-dogs” as well as many other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, October 3, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church, 2830 Highway 15 South, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Wayne Usry, Rev. Martha Dean Stewart
(July 10, 1916 -September 3, 2011)

Martha Dean Stewart, age 95, of Union Point, GA died Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Saint Joseph East Georgia in Greensboro. Mrs. Stewart was born on July 10, 1916, in Sylvester, Georgia, as the daughter of the late Dr. Walter Kenneth Stewart and Rebecca Harris Stewart. She graduated from Miller High School, Macon, Ga and attended Mercer University and business school in Macon, Ga. She married Louis Clayton Stewart on September 4, 1938. Along with being a homemaker, Mrs. Stewart worked with her husband at Stewart Oil Company for twenty years. In December 1941, she was the first president of the Union Point Garden Club. As a member of the First Baptist Church of Union Point, Mrs. Stewart held numerous positions of leadership including head of Girls Auxiliary, Sunday School teacher and WMU leader. She then joined the First Presbyterian Church with her husband where she became an Elder. Mrs. Stewart was also active in civic affairs including the United Daughters of the Confederacy and Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital Auxilliary, serving as a pink lady for many years. She enjoyed flower gardening, caring for and being with her family and volunteering in the community.
Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Clayton Stewart (December 1996); grandson, Bennett Lee Norris, Jr.; and siblings, Walter Edward Stewart, Kenneth Lamar Stewart, Irving Harris Stewart, Eleanor Rebecca Baldwin and Thomas Hough Stewart. She is survived by daughters Barbara S. Norris and Peggy S. English of Union Point and Rebecca S. Wilkes of Watkinsville; grandchildren, Stewart Edward Norris, William Louis Norris, Daniel Allen Norris, Jennifer Louise Adkins (Mark), James Stewart English, Russell Chadwick Wilkes (Adrienne) and Robert Matthew Wilkes (Annie); great grandchildren, Julianna Dean Texada; Clayton Lee Norris, Carson Bennett Norris, Catherine Grace Norris, Taylor Nicole English, Peyton Dean Wilkes, Savannah Rose Wilkes, Hudson Baisel Wilkes, and Maddox Laurens Wilkes.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 Veazey Street, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Harry Michael officiating. George Aquilla Cason
(February 11, 1937 -September 29, 2011)

George Aquilla Cason, age 74, of Eatonton, GA, died Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Greene Point Health Care and Rehab in Union Point. He was born on February 11, 1937 in Walton County to the late Jesse Dean Cason and Ora Mae Weatherford Cason. He attended Greensboro High School and joined the United States Air Force where he received his GED. In 1957 he married the former Rosie Jane McElhannon of Greensboro who preceded him in death in June of this year. When they first married they lived in Greensboro, then moved to Florida for ten years. They returned to Greensboro and in 1971 moved to Eatonton where he was living at the time of his death. While living in Eatonton, he worked for Enterprise Aluminum for twelve years and then worked as a groundkeeper at Reynolds Plantation. George was a member of Union Point Worship Center. He always had a big garden, loved to fish, hunt and watch the Atlanta Braves.
He is survived by three sons, George Douglas Cason and wife Donna of Eatonton, GA, Michael Keith Cason and wife Laura Ann of Washington, GA and Anthony Wayne Cason and wife Connie of Eatonton, GA; a brother, Calvin Cason and wife Jewell of Loganville, GA; grandchildren: Jesse Douglas Cason (Rena), Jeffrey Alan Cason, Christi Cason Nation (Derrick), Amanda Cason Cruz (Juan), Kenneth Forrest Cason, David Cason and Joshua Cason; step grandchildren: Colby Chandler Howard, Anthony Cole Howard; great grandchildren: Anna Megan Cason, Kaleb Fluker, Justin Fluker, Lynn Nicole Nation and Carlos Aiden Cruz; and a number of other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Willie Cason, Charlie Cason and Jack Cason.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Interment will follow in Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Jesse Cason, Jeffrey Cason, David Cason, Forrest Cason, Eddie Scarborough and A. J. Mathis. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday night at McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Bertha Mae Wood Lundy
(February 13, 1918 -September 27, 2011)

Bertha Mae Lundy, 93, of Union Point, Georgia passed away on September 27, 2011. Born Bertha Mae Wood on February 13, 1918 in Madison County, GA, she was the daughter of Jack W. Wood and Alice T. James Wood. She grew up and attended school in Ila, Georgia. In 1937, she married Virgil Davis Lundy who preceded her in death on June 23, 1985. They made their home in Greensboro and then lived for a while on Brickhouse Road. The family then moved to Union Point where she has lived since 1944. Her time was spent raising her children and keeping kids in her home. She was lovingly known as “Mama Lundy” and helped to raise hundreds of kids. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, but most of all, her family. She was a dedicated member of Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church of Greensboro.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-laws: David Leon Lundy and Barbara of Dalton, GA, Jack Lundy and Suzette of Athens, GA, Richard Lundy and Charlotte of Caycee, SC and Kerry Lundy and Lek of Union Point, GA; three sisters, Velma Webb-Bauman of Winterhaven, FL, Martha Stanford of Lilburn, GA and Eunice Welsh of Union Point, GA; a brother, Grover Eugene Wood of Pensacola, FL; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Jeannie Faye Lundy and Lula Catherine Lundy; and her siblings, Leona Webb, Janey Channell Mize, Homer Wood, Thurmond Wood and Tom Wood.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church, 2830 Highway 15 South, Greensboro, GA with Rev. Tim Tabler officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669. Serving as Pallbearers are Stacey Lundy, Bill Lundy, Mark Lundy, Chris Lundy, Bob Worthen and Scott Davis. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday night at Callaway Funeral Home. Allene Durham Callaway
(December 27, 1937 -October 18, 2011)

Allene Durham Callaway, age 73, of Union Point, GA, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Greene Point Healthcare and Rehab. A native of Taliaferro County, Mrs. Callaway was born December 27, 1937, the daughter of the late Imogene Harper (Durham) Bass and Wesley Allen Durham. She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Mattie Lou Durham Wood and her daughter, Cathy Callaway Gardner. As a child she grew up and attended school in Crawfordville at Alexander H. Stephens Institute. She married James Samuel Callaway on December 9, 1957 in Siloam, Georgia. For the last forty-two years, they have made their home in Union Point. She was a seamstress for Thomas Textile in Union Point and Style Right in Woodville. As an active member of the First Baptist Church of Union Point, she enjoyed all of the church activities and being a part of the WMU. Her family and church were very important in her life. She was a wonderful seamstress and also enjoyed reading.

In addition to her husband, James S. Callaway of Union Point, GA, she is survived by a daughter, Shirley Blakely and husband Ronny of Murray, KY; two sons, Tim Callaway and wife Andrea of Warthen, GA and Todd Callaway and wife Tammy of Woodville, GA; two sisters, Patsy Powell and Mary Scoggins and husband James both of Siloam, GA; a brother, Walter Hoyt Durham of Orange Park, FL; ten grandchildren, Michael Blakely of Murray, KY, Kristie Freeman and husband Nathan of Benton, KY, Roxanne Mize and husband Dan of Greensboro, GA, Chelsie Neibert of Woodville, GA, Clay Goss and wife Lisa of Winder, GA, Travis Goss and wife Laurie of Athens, GA, Michael Beard and wife Anita of Manahawkin, NJ, Chris Callaway and wife Stephanie of Sandersville, GA, Corry Callaway and wife Anna of Sandersville, GA and Craig Callaway and Kaitlin Jackson of Warthen, GA; fifteen great grandchildren, Greyson and Hayden Goss of Winder, GA, Kaylei Smith and Cason Neibert of Woodville, GA, Emily Mize of Greensboro, GA, Nicole and Hudson Callaway of Sandersville, GA, Jessica and Tyler Blakely and Dylan and Kara Freeman of Benton, KY and Ansleigh, Caleb, Riley and Liam Goss of Athens, GA; and many other relatives and friends.

Harry Abbott Norris
(October 6, 1942 -October 24, 2011)

Harry Abbott Norris, age 69, of Union Point, GA, died Monday, October 24, 2011 at Saint Joseph’s at East Georgia Hospital in Greensboro. A native of the Norwood Community of Warren County, Georgia, he was born October 6, 1942 to the late Clara Abbott Norris and Homer Edwin Norris. He graduated from Union Point High School in the class of 1959. Harry was an employee of Lockheed Martin Aircraft Corporation in Marietta, GA as a mechanic on the aircraft. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Union Point.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bennett Lee Norris, Sr. and Jack Edward Norris; a nephew, Bennett Lee Norris, Jr.; a niece, Kathleen Mitchell Price; and two brothers-in-law, Leonard Jackson and Frank Mitchell III. He is survived by four sisters, Catherine Baker and husband Leslie of Kansas City, MO, Faye Jackson of Gainesville, FL, Joan Drinkard and husband Charles of Washington, GA and Linda Mitchell of Crawfordville, GA; a brother, Luther Allen Norris and wife Cean of Columbia, SC; a sister-in-law, Barbara Norris of Union Point, GA; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is also survived by his good friends and caregivers Dr. Billy Rhodes and Lee Walker.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Callaway Funeral Home Chapel, 208 N. Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Harry Michael officiating. Interment will follow at Johnson United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4228 Gibson Highway, Warrenton, GA 30828. Serving as pallbearers are Bill Norris, Frank Mitchell IV, Jack Norris, Alan Cowart, Chris McElveen and Mercer Harris. Honorary pallbearers are James Taylor, Billy Roland, Tom Davis, Charles Moody and Ed Kilgore. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service on Wednesday at Callaway Funeral Home.
