Patrick Gerard Amabile

Patrick Gerard Amabile, 59, died Nov. 6, 2007.

A native of New Castle, PA. he was a son of the late Italy and Mary Natale Amabile. Mr. Amabile was active in the North Oconee Baseball program and also coached Little League Baseball in Walton and Oconee Counties for many years.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-seven years: Linda Amabile; daughters and son-in-law: Tiffani Amabile and Mark Hassan of Statham, Gabrielle Elaine Amabile of Statham; sons and daughter-in-law: Matthew Thomas and Heather Amabile of Bogart, Joshua William Amabile of Statham; three grandchildren: Cameron, Braedon, and Samuel.

Lord and Stephens, WEST was in charge of arrangements.

Tommy Lee Conner

Tommy Lee Conner, age 77 of Monroe, died on Nov. 1, 2007. He was born in Morgan County on Nov. 12, 1929 to the late Hughie Conner and the late Eva Claire Malcom. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Frances Epperson Conner.

Surviving are: sons and daughter-in-law: Terry and Joan Conner of Rutledge, Lynn Conner of Monroe, and Kent Conner of Monroe; daughter and fiancé: Neshlia Turk and Shannon Hawkins of Social Circle; sisters: Sara Peters of Monroe, Ann Garrett of Bethlehem, and Betty Claire Austin of Stone Mountain; brothers: Bobby Conner of Monroe, Larry Conner of Loganville, Howard Conner of Monroe, and Billy Conner of Monroe; five Grandchildren and three Great Grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held on Sunday Nov. 4 at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Durden and the Rev. Chris Conner officiating. Interment followed at Resthaven Cemetery.

Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Anna B. Rice

Funeral Services for Mrs. Anna B. Rice will be Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007 at 2 p.m. at New Bethel Church, Walnut Grove. Pastor Lucious Solomon, Eulogist.

Survivors are: children: Mrs. Christine Phillips, Mrs. Bobbie Wymbs, Mr. Robert Rice, Jr., Ms. Dianne Rice; mother: Mrs. Christanna McGruder;17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren.

Young Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.

LCDR (Ret) Chester Dale Moss

LCDR (Ret) Chester Dale Moss, age 91 of Good Hope died October 27, 2007.

A native of Fairfield, WA. he was a son of the late Dale Moss and Anna Bigeral Moss. A retired pharmacist, he retired after serving 23 years in the U.S. Navy. A resident of Walton County for the past 18 years, he was a member of the Heritage Congregational Church.

Funeral services were held November 1, 2007 in the Chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home. The Rev. Tony Dyer officiated. The remains were cremated.

Surviving are his widow: Marye Frances Phillips Moss of Good Hope; children: Phillip Moss of Good Hope, Gregory & Patricia Moss of Bend, OR. and Cheryl Hewitt of Antioch, TN; brother: Stewart & Mary Moss of Spokane, WA; grandchildren: Jennifer Moss Lewis and Jeff Moss.

Arthur Bowick, Inc. Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Lloyd L. Smith

Lloyd L. Smith, 94, husband of the late, Eddie Burson Smith, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007 at Iris Place, Athens, Georgia.

A native of Ringsted, Iowa, Lloyd was the son of the late Floyd and Josephine Iverson Smith. He was currently a resident of Iris Place and formerly a resident of Southern Plantation, Loganville, Lloyd served his country in the US Army during WWII and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Athens chapter of the Purple Heart and the Disabled American Veterans in Monroe. He received his BS and MS in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Georgia, was noted as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and retired in 1974 as a Research Agricultural Engineer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was a longtime Rotarian in Monroe, GA as well as Leland, Miss. and was a Founding Member of the Monroe Chapter of AARP. He was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church, former deacon at First Baptist of Athens, GA, Leland, Miss and Monroe, GA. He was a Sunday School teacher at and also traveled on several mission trips building churches with First Baptist of Monroe.

Survivors include his niece: Patricia Maninfor of Winlock, Washington; cousin: Irene Smith; sister-in-law: Pauline Burson White of Athens; nieces and nephews; close friends: Ramona and Ed Lord, Jay and Tina Lord, Ora and William Kilgore, Virginia and Ross Manders.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 27 at 2pm at Lord & Stephens West Chapel with Revs. Rob Bray, Frank Johnson and Frank Holmes officiating. Burial followed at Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers were : Jay Lord, William Kilgore, Ross Manders, B.R. Thomas, Asa Thomas and Jack Rogers.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethabara Baptist Church Building Fund, 4651 Monroe Highway, Statham, GA 30666.

Lord & Stephens, WEST is in charge of arrangements.

Vera Jane Truman Phillips

Vera Jane Truman Phillips, 89 died Oct. 19, 2007 in Sun City Center, FL.

A native of Pennsylvania she formerly resided in Monroe, GA. and was the widow of Fred Louis Phillips of Walton Co. GA.

She is survived by her daughters: Mary Ellen Greene of Valrico, FL., Patty Ann Phillips of Carlsbad, CA. and Peggy Jean Phillips of San Diego, CA.; sons: Barry Lee Phillips of Jacksonville, FL. and Bradley Truman Phillips of Davisboro, GA.; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2008 at the New Hope Methodist Church in Between, GA.

Sun City Center Funeral Home, 1851 Rickenbacker Dr. Sun City Center, FL. was in charge of arrangements.

Pam Bray

Pam Bray, 52 , died Oct. 15, 2007 at Walton Regional Medical Center. She was born in Walton County on Dec. 9, 1954 to the late G.E. (Buddy) Hopkins and Joan H. Hopkins of Monroe.

She is survived by : son: Curtis P. Arthur of Monroe; brother: Randal Hopkins, Cleveland; sisters: Melinda Stamm, Manassas, VA, Naomi Hopkins and Megan Hopkins of Monroe; granddaughter: Suzanne; niece: Jennifer (Johnny) Westberry; great nephews: Phoenix and Nevin Westberry, all of Walton County.

Greatly missed, also by close friends: Karen Cartley, Athens, Vanesssa Stalets, TN, Gail Todd, Lynda Hickox and Robin Skinner, all of Monroe.

Pam was musically gifted and in her teens was a pianist for the Monroe Congregational Holiness Church and a member of a trio who were featured at revivals and youth meetings.

In 1983, she became a Certified Respiratory Therapist, a profession Pam followed for 14 years.

Pam was a caring and loving person, always willing to be there for those in need. She became well known on the internet and chat rooms by the name “Miss Peach”. She made friends in other countries and well as the U.S.

At her request she was cremated. A Memorial Service was held on Oct. 15, 2007 at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home.

Officiating at the service was her brother Randal Hopkins. Sharing memories and “Pam-issims” were niece, Jennifer Westberry, sister, Megan Hopkins, close friends Karen Cantley and Vanessa Stalets with a final tribute given by her sister Melinda Stamm.

Meadows Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn B. Teal,
Evelyn B. Teal, 82 of Carrollton, formerly of Monroe died December 26, 2007. She was a native of Clarke County and had made her home in Walton County most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Charlie and Sal- lie Mae Burt Bates. The widow of Loyd D. Teal she was a homemaker.

Frances W. Maffett, 92 of Monroe died Dec. 22, 2007. A native and life long resident of Walton County, she was the daughter of the late James O. and Sally Payne Wilson. She was retired from the Monroe/Walton Mill and was the widow of Woodrow W. Maffett who died in 2005.

Larry Eugene Haulk age 72 of Coker Creek, TN, passed away peacefully, Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 at his home. He was born in Walton County June 28, 1935. He worked as a milkman, salesman, business owner, truck driver and later retired from Gwinnett County Government. He was a member of Towee Falls Baptist Church.

Robert E. (Bobby) Pep- pers, 65 of Good Hope died December 27, 2007. A native of Morgan County, he had spent most of his life in Walton County. He was a son of the late Harris E. and Grace Meadows Peppers. He was retired from Hercules Inc. and was of the Baptist Faith.

Jake Bradshaw, 81, of Monroe died on Dec. 24, 2007. He was born May 7, 1926 in Walton County. to the late Molly Belle Wilson Bradshaw and the late Judge Bradshaw. He was preceded in death by wife: the late Leila Pearl Peppers Bradshaw and son: the late Jackie Bradshaw. Surviving are sons and daughter-in-law: Danny and Louise Bradshaw of Monroe and Randy Bradshaw of Monroe; daughter: Brenda Brownlee of Monroe; brother: Julian Bradshaw of Winder; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren.

Corrine Hester, age 93 of Madison, died on Dec.18, 2007. She was born in Hall County on Aug. 24, 1914 to the late Noah Loggins and the late Vada Loggins. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late William Harold Hester. Surviving are: sons: Nathaniel Hester and Sam Hester; daughters: Geraldine Holder, Dorothy Anne Arnold, Gail Thomas, and Carol Jackson; sisters: Montine Dailey and Dorothy Moseley; 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

R C Cheek
Roe Chester Cheek, 88, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007. Graveside services were held at 1pm, Sunday, Dec.16, at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens. Reverend Franklin Etheridge officiated. Mr. Cheek was born in Monroe, Georgia, June 8, 1919 to the late Rad Cheek and Sally Criswell Cheek. His loving wife of fifty-three years, Bobbie Marchman, died Aug. 13, 1994. His daughter, Connie Renee Cheek, also preceded him in death. He was a business owner in Monroe County, Georgia for thirty-two years. Mr. Cheek was proud of his Indian heritage and was a great storyteller. Survivors include his daughters: Sandra (Tony) Barham of Gray and Linda F. Cheek of Monroe; granddaughter: Amber Barham (Matthew) Cooling. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.

Georgia Odell Conner, 92, formerly of Monroe died on Dec. 14, 2007. She was born on Oct. 31, 1915 in Walton Co. to the late Sidney Godley Mathis and the late Georgia Prudence Gravitt Mathis. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late James 'Jim' Jefferson Conner Jr., sons, the late Roger Conner and the late Ronnie Conner, 4 sisters, and 3 brothers. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law: Marie and Terrell Gooding of Duluth; sons and daughters-in-law: Larry and Jane Conner of Griffin, Norman and Ann Conner of Monroe, and Jan Conner of Monroe; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. J.P. Toney
Mr. J.P. Toney, 89, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on the 13th day of Dec., 2007. He was born July 6, 1918 in Oconee County, , to John Newton and Icey Olivia Hooper Toney. At the time of his birth, theirs was that of a farming family and he enjoyed a great relationship with twelve brothers and sisters. As he grew up, he, along with other members of the family, endured and survived the great depression. It was at this time he developed his great love for the sport of baseball. He pitched with and for several teams located in areas from Commerce, Athens, Madison, Rutledge and in many Mill Towns thereabout. It seems his greatest joy was pitching for a team sponsored by the Civilian Conservation Core as they worked and developed what is now known as the Hard Labor Creek State Park at Rutledge, Georgia.

Ashford of Monroe; son: Greg Hester of East Pointe; daughter: Jerri Hester of Monroe; sisters: Azalee Lee Ruark of Bostwick and Jean Queen of Social Circle; Brother: Charles Hester of Monroe.

He also proudly served his county during World War II in the United States Coast Guard. Surviving are: wife: Evelyn Day Cain of Monroe; son: William Cain of Monroe; step son: Dennis Holbrook of Madison; sister: Mary Holly of Atlanta; two step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. A Graveside Service was held on Monday Dec. 10th at 11am at Westlawn cemetery with the Rev. Mike Blount officiating.
