Mr. Elgin Levy Moon

Mr. Elgin Levy Moon, 71, of Jackson Street, College Park, Ga. and formerly of Hogansville died Dec. 26, 1997 at South Fulton Medical Center in East Point, Ga.

Mr. Moon was born June 17, 1926 in Heard County, Ga., to Hattie (Ogle) Moon and the late Thomas Henry Moon. He was employed as a custodian and in building maintenance at Ford Motor Company in Hapeville.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the chapel of Herschel McDaniel Funeral Home of Fairburn. Officiating were Ralph Baker and Harold Lowry. Interment was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in College Park, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Kate (Nichols) Moon, of College Park; sons, Leroy Moon of Jonesboro, Ga. and Philip Moon of McDonough, Ga.; daughters, Cecilia Jones of Elenwood, Ga. and Gail Moon Moore of Newnan; sisters, Alice Boyer of Union City, Ga. and Frances Wright of Charleston, S.C.; mother, Hattie Herlin Moon of Union City; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Mr. William Harold "Bill" Pinson Sr.

Mr. William Harold "Bill" Pinson Sr., 75, of Newnan died Dec. 27, 1997, at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Pinson was born Aug. 15, 1922 in Central, South Carolina. He was retired and was owner of Newnan Electric. He was a veteran of the U.S. armed forces and was a member of the Newnan Kiwanis Club and First Baptist Church of Newnan.

Graveside services were held Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Don Helms officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery in Newnan.

Survivors include his wife, Ola Bowen Pinson of Newnan; daughter, Deborah Pinson Glover of Newnan; son, William H. Pinson Jr. of Savannah, Ga; brothers, Thomas Pinson of Rock Hill, S.C. and Dr. Woodrow Pinson of Orlando, Fla.; sister, Thelma Pinson Richey of Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren, Rebecca Pinson Glover of Newnan and Sara Cecelia Iskander and Debra Melissa Pinson of Savannah.

Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" Smith

Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" Smith, 80, of Fairway Court, Newnan, died Dec. 28, 1997 at Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.

Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 28, 1917 in McKeesport, Penn. She was the daughter of George Parks and Augusta Stempel. A homemaker, she was also empolyed by Delta Airlines for 11 years. She was a member of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home in Newnan. The Rev. Dwight L. Moody will officiate, and interment will be in College Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Russell, Larry Smith, John Crain, Harold Tolbert, Bruce Prock and Dale Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Fred Smith of Newnan; daughter, Shirley Bentz of Elizabeth, Penn.; sisters, Agnes Rowley of Pittsburg, Penn., Irene Maddux of Cumming, Ga., and Marie Norman of Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren, Tommy Bentz, Bobby Bentz and Susie Bentz, all of Elizabeth, Penn.; great-grandchildren, Stacy Bentz, Lauren Bentz, both of Elizabeth, Penn.; several neices and nephews.

Mr. Stephen Todd Smith

Mr. Stephen Todd Smith, 34, of Senoia died Dec. 24, 1997, at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born January 31, 1963 in Columbus, Mr. Smith was a member of Cathedral of Praise in Brooks.

A service was conducted Dec. 26 at Cathedral of Praise with Pastor Roger Robinson officiating. Interment followed at Turin Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Smith of Senoia; grandmother, L. Mildred Antley of Columbus; sister, Bill and Karen Riner of Senoia; brother, Michael and Tina Smith, Senoia; nieces, Kathy Riner, Michaela Smith; and nephews, Cody Smith.

Memorial contributions can be made to Cathedral of Praise.

Mr. L. Ross Walthall

Mr. L. Ross Walthall, 90, of Haynie Road, Moreland, died Dec. 27, 1997, at his residence.

Mr. Walthall was born Oct. 27, 1907 in Coweta County. He was retired from Moreland Mills and was a veteran of the U.S. armed forces, serving in the Army during World War II. He was a member of White Oak Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at White Oak Presbyterian with the Rev. Rabun Williams officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery on Gordon Road. Honorary pallbearers were the elders of White Oak Presbyterian. Active pallbearers were Billy Christopher, Frank Christopher, John Christopher, Zeb Christopher, William Evans and Wade Stevenson.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah Christopher Walthall of Moreland; brother, Harvey Walthall of Newnan; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Nettie R. Dingler

Mrs. Nettie R. Dingler, 84, of Georgia Highway 16 West in Newnan died Dec. 29, 1997, at her home.

Born Aug. 16, 1913 in Meriwether County, Mrs. Dingler was a member of Central Baptist Church.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at McKoon Funeral Home with Dr. Joel Richardson and the Rev. Larry Minix officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Melvin Hendrix, Harold Shelton, Mickey Shelton, Ronnie Shelton, Steve Shelton and D.R. Ward serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her daughter, Marie Dingler of Newnan; sisters, Frances M. Minix of Decatur, Olivia Fulton of Lawrenceville, Virginia Pinyan of Gainesville; granddaughter, Amy Dingler and Henning Bloech of Austin, Texas; and sister-in-law, Charlie B. Hendrix of Newnan.

Mrs. Inez S. Hanson

Mrs. Inez S. Hanson, 86, of Hogansville died Dec. 29, 1997 at Dogwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fairburn.

Born Feb. 6, 1911 in Carroll County, Mrs. Hanson was the daughter of the late George and Julie Hembree Smallwood and the wife of the late G. Parker Hanson Sr. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church an was retired from Uniroyal Inc.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Jimmy Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Myrtle Hill cemetery in Hogansville.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Becky and Parker Hanson Jr. of Grantville; sister, Dora Hanson of Hogansville; brother, George Smallwood of Hogansville; grandchildren, Elizabeth Bass of Newnan, Michael Hanson of Grantville; and foster great-grandchildren, Tiffany Castro and Sean LaRose.

Dr. Marshall Hinton Everett

Dr. Marshall Hinton Everett, 82 of Loganville died Sunday, March 12, 2006. Funeral services were held at 2pm Thursday, March 16 at Mountain View Baptist Tabernacle, Snellville with remains placed in state at 1:30 pm. The Rev. Carl Leach, Jr., Dr. Thurman Wade and Dr. Don Richards officiated. Burial at Gwinnett Memorial Park, Lawrenceville.

Dr. Everett was a loving father and grandfather and was respected and honored by all his family as a man of God. He always lived what he preached to others. He started preaching in August of 1951 and pastored 14 churches over the years. He founded and pastored Fellowship Baptist Church, Stone Mountain and Gwinnett Hall Baptist Church and Bible College, Lawrenceville.

He also began Macedonia World Baptist Missions and was a member of Mountain View Baptist Tabernacle.

He is survived by: wife of 63 years, Dovie Irene Everett, Loganville; children: John and Brenda Everett, Suwanee; James and Linda Everett, Jesse and Deborah Everett, all of Lawrenceville; brother and sister-in-law: Bernice and Evelyn Everett, Buford; sister: Sara Casper, Statham; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Flowers accepted or memorials to Macedonia World Baptist Missions, P.O.Box 519, Braselton, Georgia 30548.

Tim Stewart Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James Witcher Sr.

James Witcher Sr., 88 of Loganville, died on March 12, 2006. He was born in Walton County on Aug. 5, 1917 to the late James David Witcher and the late Annie Barber Witcher.

He was preceded in death by his wife: the late Mary Annie Farmer Witcher; sisters: the late Ruby Nunally and the late Marzee Casper; brothers: the late Cawley Witcher, the late Millard Franklin Witcher, the late Pirkle Witcher, and the late Jack Witcher.

Surviving are: daughters: Patricia Autry, Snellville, Martha Neal, Snellville, Veronica Duncan, Danielsville, Beth Robison, Loganville and Donna Bullington, Gray; sons: Eddie Witcher, Franklin Springs and Jim Witcher, Loganville; 13 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 14 at 2pm at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Cain Hendricks officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Cemetery.

Meadows Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.

E. Earl Mallard, Jr.

Earl Mallard of Monroe died March, 9 2006 following a brief illness. He was 77.

A native of Shellman, GA he was the son of the late E. Earl Mallard, Sr. and Gladye Weathers Mallard.

He graduated from the University of Georgia and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant and Platoon Leader and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

He then returned to earn a law degree from the University of Georgia where he was president of his senior law class.

He was a member of the Gridiron Society and Sigma Nu Fraternity.

He practiced law prior to becoming Deputy Director of the Worker’s Compensation Board and later serving as Chairman from 1973 until 1981.

Upon retiring, he established the law firm of Mallard and Wilson in Monroe.

He served as Chairman of the Walton County Senior Citizens Council and served on the Walton Library Board.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the VFW, American Legion and DAV.

He was a past president of the Monroe Rotary Club and in 2001 he was awarded the State Bar of Georgia Worker’s Compensation Section’s Distinguished Service Award.

Funeral services were held March 11, 2006 in the Monroe First United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Margaret Adams and the Rev. Hoyt Jenkins officiated. A private interment service was held in Rest Haven Cemetery.

He is survived by his widow: Airey Aultman Mallard; one daughter: Angela Mallard of Telluride, Co; a son and daughter in law: Wilson and Angie Mallard of Dacula; two grandchildren: Hanna and Andrew Mallard; a cousin: Sara Curry of Shellman.
