Mrs. Inez Allen Burks, 59, of Hogansville died Oct. 7, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born March 1, 1938 in Woodbury, Mrs. Burks was the daughter of the late Effie Allen. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hogansville.

Funeral services will be held Oct. 9 (today) at 2 p.m. at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Udell Addison, The Rev. Jerry Cross and Dr. Bob Daughtery officiating. Interment will follow at Myrtle Hill cemetery in Hogansville.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Billy Burks; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Sue and Cleve Crum of Grantville; son and daughter-in-law, Scottie and Elizabeth Burks of Hogansville; father, E. Young Allen of Hogansville; sisters, Shirley Wright, Bobbie Wright, both of Hogansville, June Lawrence of Manchester; step-brother, Bobby Lee Cole of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ruby J. Colton, 96, of Greenville died Oct. 5, 1997.

Funeral services will be held Oct. 9 (today) at 2 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Greenville with the Rev. W.J. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her nephew, Leon Coverson; great-nieces, Mr. and Mrs. Antonio (Angelyn) Stepp, Mr. and Mrs. Grady (Cassandra) Driskell; sisters, Mrs. Rosavelt Delaney, Zora Lambert; daughter-in-law, Mary Colton; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Vessie Mae Howard, 82, of Franklin Road in Newnan died Oct. 8, 1997, at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born March 26, 1915 in Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Howard was the daughter of the late Berry McClain and Nancy Brown. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Funeral services will be held Oct. 9 (today) at 3 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Duncan officiating, assisted by Steve Smith. Interment will follow in Sargent with Gordon Smith, Chris Proctor, Craig Howard, Tim Bunn, Michael Morrow, Troy Wilson, Scott Bunn and Kyle Howard serving as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be D.J. Howard, Brandon Howard, Marcus Rakestraw and Michael Veal.

Survivors include her husband, Floyce Howard of Newnan; and children, Geraleene Smith of Carrollton, Joel and Kathleen Proctor, Harold Howard, Larry and Denise Howard, Albert and Ann Morrow, Dan and Evon Howard, all of Newnan, Melvin and Charlene Bunn of Franklin, Barney and Carol Howard of Grantville, Robert and Betty Hammett of Hogansville and Bobby and Bonnie Howard of Senoia.

Mrs. Edna B. Dennis, 79, of Lake Circle in Newnan died Oct. 3, 1997, at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.

Born April 7, 1918 in Coffee County, Ala., Mrs. Dennis was the daughter of the late William and Susie (Breedlove) Brannon and the wife of the late Ivey Dennis. She was a retired textile reel operator with the Bibb Co. and a member of the Baptist faith.

Graveside services will be held Oct. 6 (tomorrow) at 3 p.m. at Oak Hill cemetery with the Rev. David Arrington officiating.

Survivors include her daughters, Elaine Butts of Newnan, Jean Skinner of Opelika, Ala.; sons, Paul Dennis of Smith, Ala., Ivey Wayne Dennis of Raleigh, N.C.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Nellie Eunice Turner, 88, of Turner Road in Newnan died Oct. 8, 1997, at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born April 4, 1909 in Carrollton, Mrs. Turner was the daughter of the late John William Washington Webb and Idella Wootson (Stallings) Webb. She was a member of Westview Christian Church and a homemaker.

Funeral services will be held Oct. 10 (today) at 3 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home with Tony Sullivan officiating, assisted by Larry Musick. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include her husband, James Turner of Newnan; sister, Minnie Helton of Carrollton; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Steve Houston

Mrs. Steve Houston, 43, of Strong Lane in Madras passed away Oct. 6, 1997, at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale.

Born Dec. 10, 1953, Mr. Houston was the son of the late George Lee Houston. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Jordan.

Mr. Houston was a member of Triumph Holiness Church.

Funeral services were held Oct. 9 at Sellers-Smith Funeral Home with Prince J.R. Keith officiating, assisted by the Rev. A. Alexander, Prince Gibbs and the Rev. James White Jr. Interment followed at Eastview cemetery with Bobby Ross, Ronny Johnson, Lewis Houston, Justin Williams, Willie Johnson and Kuron Scott serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia L. Johnson Houston; children, Kina Harmon, Stephanie Houston, Justin Williams, Jennifer Houston; step-son, Mr. and Mrs. Steve (Sonya) Hall; mother, Earnestine Jordan; brothers, George Houston, Mr. and Mrs. Sterling (Florence) Houston, Lewis Houston, Stanley Jordan, Donnell Jordan, all of Newnan; four grandchildren; aunts; uncles; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Oct. 12 (today) at 3:30 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church cemetery in Roosterville with the Rev. Jonathan Porter and the Rev. Frank Kennedy officiating.

In addition to her parents, survivors include her maternal grandparents, Catherine and Ralph Warner of LaGrange; paternal grandparents, Sue and Wheeler Bryan of Greenville; paternal great-grandmother, Nevalee Deel of Haysi, Va.; aunts; uncles and cousins.

Mr. Magnus "Max" Tate, 86, of Newnan died Nov. 10, 1997 in Newnan.

Born in Shelby, Kent., Mr. Tate was the son of the late Thomas O. Tate and Josephine Bird Tate. A U.S. Army veteran of World War Two, he was a retired farmer and a member of Newnan Presbyterian Church and the Coweta County VFW Club.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Orange Hill cemetery in Hawkinsville with the Rev. Harry Barrow officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Warren Tate of Newnan; daughters, Peggy T. Barber of Houston, Texas, Charlotte T. Unzicker of Fairfax, Va.; sister, Margaret Gibson of Louisville, Kent.; brother, James Tate of Medford, Ore.; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Ida Lee Hunter, 74, of Newnan died Oct. 6, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. Hunter was born Oct. 22, 1922 in Coweta County. She was a member of the Summer Hill Baptist Church in Moreland.

Funeral services will be held Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at Summer Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. J. T. Coleman is to officiate, assisted by other ministers. Interment will be in East View Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pall bearers.

Survivors include her sisters, Mrs. Sarah Melson of Newnan and Ms. Victoria Bailey of Dayton, Ohio; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
