MR. WILLIAM ROGER CALLAWAY

Mr. William Roger Callaway, 50, of Berry Avenue in Newnan died March 24, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born May 19, 1946 in Georgia, Mr. Callaway was the son of the late John B. and Corine (Gray) Callaway. A member of the Baptist faith, he was a retired sales supervisor and a U.S. Army veteran.

Funeral service were held March 27 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Cash officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bill Dean. Interment followed at Oak Hill cemetery with Darell Tenney, Joel Tenney, Danny Odom, Tim Mills, Junior Kimble and Joey Wilbur serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his daughter, Kimberley Watts of Newnan; son, Jeff Callaway of Newnan; sisters, Elizabeth Odom, Frances Mills, Marie Hendrix and Linda Marchman, all of Newnan; brother, James Callaway of Newnan; and six grandchildren.

MR. JOSEPH "JOE" PHILLIP CHAPMAN

Mr. Joseph "Joe" Phillip Chapman, 85, of Potts Road in Newnan died March 25, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born July 7, 1911 in Meriwether County, Mr. Chapman was the son of the late James Eligsha Chapman and Kattie Lou Anderson Chapman. He was a charter member of Unity Baptist Church and was a retired Coca Cola service technician and a retired building inspector for the City of Newnan.

Graveside services were held March 27 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan with the Rev. Danny Wilson officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Chapman of Newnan; children, Bonnelle Bowie of Holly Springs, Ga., Jimmy Chapman of Brunswick, Phil Chapman of Loganville; step-children, Jimmy Hughie of Columbus, Bob Hughie of Newnan, Oscar Hughie of Newnan, Lisa Hughie of Indiana; sisters, Ruth Harris of Kennesaw, Martha Miller of Weaver, Ala.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

THE REV. ROY L. CHATHAM SR.

The Rev. Roy L. Chatham Sr., 88, of LaGrange died March 26, 1997 at Franklin Health Care Center in Franklin.

Born June 20, 1908 in Chambers County, Ala., the Rev. Chatham was the son of the late Ernest Eugene and Maybell Pike Chatham. He was retired from Callaway Mills Company.

A pastor for more than 45 years, the Rev. Chatham was served as pastor of Hillside Christian Church for more than 25 years. He was a member of the 25 Year Club and a past master of the Elm City Lodge #544 Free and Accepted Masons. He attended Southern Union College.

Funeral services were held March 28 at Hillside Christian Church in LaGrange with the Rev. Ralph Lee officiating. Interment followed at Shadowlawn cemetery in LaGrange.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Marylene Chatham of LaGrange, Roy L. and Cheryl Chatham Jr. of Newnan; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

MRS. BERNICE E. DASH

Mrs. Bernice E. Dash, 67, of Deep South Road in Senoia passed away March 21, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Jan. 8, 1930 in Orangeburg, S.C., Mrs. Dash was the daughter of the late Willie and Florence Corely Edwards. She was a member of New Birth Baptist Church in Haralson.

Mrs. Dash was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosa L. Johnson.

Funeral services were held March 28 at New Birth Baptist Church with the Rev. Bartholomew Orr officiating, assisted by the Rev. Clinton Melson, the Rev. Joseph Nelson, the Rev. Matthew Brantley and Gloristein Arnold.

Interment followed at Sunset cemetery with Larry Bonner, George Hall, William Hill, Amos Houston, Curtis Jackson and Willie B. Orr.

Survivors include her husband, Governor Dash Sr.; children, Charlie (Lula) Dash of Riverdale, Margaret (James) Arnold of Newnan, Janett D. Carter of Atlanta, Betty J. Herndon of Atlanta, Willie Dash of Marietta, Florence (Walter) Mathis of Newnan, Governor Dash Jr., Jimmy Dash, Gladys Dash, Raymond Dash, all of Senoia; Tommy Dash of Newnan, Margie Dash of Philadelphia, Penn.; sister, Rosa L. McEachen of Brooklyn, N.Y.; brothers, Eddie Edwards of New Jersey, Charles Edwards of Washington D.C.; brother-in-law, Thomas Dash of Charleston, S.C.; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

MRS. NADINE HOUSEWORTH

Mrs. Nadine Houseworth, 85, of Welcome-Arnco Road in Newnan died March 27, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.

Born Feb. 18, 1912 in Carroll County, Mrs. Houseworth was the daughter of the late Albert and Mattie Lee (Smith) Garner and the widow of the late James E. Houseworth. She a retired textile worker and a member of Whitesburg Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held March 27 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Travis Eidson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul Dennis. Interment followed at Oak Hill cemetery in Newnan with Tommy Bridges, Charles Garner, Phillip Garner, Roy Garner, Doug Sheppard and Edsel Houseworth serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Shoemake of Newnan; son, Warren Houseworth of Tifton; sister, Olive Bridges of Newnan; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

MR. EDWARD LEWIS MITCHELL JR.

Mr. Edward Lewis Mitchell Jr. of Wallace Gray Road in Newnan passed away March 23, 1997 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Born May 21, 1980 in Coweta County, Mr. Mitchell was a member of Mt. Prospect Baptist Church in Moreland. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Edward Mitchell and Buddy Melson.

Funeral services were held march 27 at Sellers-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. McArthur Blount officiating, assisted by the Rev. Clinton Melson. Interment followed at Eastview cemetery with Roger King, Mario Barber and family friends serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his parents, Edward Mitchell Sr. and Mildred Melson; sister, Tiara; brothers, Willie, Pierre; grandmothers, Sara Melson, Earnestine Mitchell; great-grandmother, Lula B. Mitchell; aunts, Georgia Teagle, Mattie Marchman of Newnan, Cleo Young, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Frezelle) Ayoola of Atlanta, Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Elaine) Kelly of Newnan, Barbara Cammon, Gladys Mitchell of Newnan; uncles, Thomas Melson of Portland, Maine, Mrs. and Mrs. Eddie (Roberta) Melson, Aretha Melson, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford (Kim) Melson, Mr. and Mrs. James (Shanon) Melson, all of Newnan; and five great aunts.

Mr. Paul F. Musick of Grantville died March 26, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital. Graveside services will be held March 29 (today) at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.

MR. DAVID W. NOWELL

Mr. David William Nowell, 44, of Smithfield, N.C. died March 23, 1997 at his home.

Born Jan. 12, 1953 in Linn County, Ore., Mr. Nowell was the son of the late Cleaborn and Mary Henthorn Nowell. he was a store manager for Kmart.

Funeral services were held March 28 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Brown officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill cemetery in Hogansville.

Survivors include his wife, Melanie Lunsford Nowell of Smithfield; sons, William Tau Nowell of Chicago, Steve L. Nowell of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, Dwayne Nowell of Canon City, Col.; sisters, Linda Hartsuicker, Cheryl Boucher, both of Canon City.

MR. CARL HOUSTON PAYTON SR.

Mr. Carl Houston Payton Sr., 68, of Boone Road in Newnan died March 26, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born June 13, 1928 in Coweta County, Mr. Payton was the son of the late Houston and Myrtie (Boone) Payton. A member of the Methodist faith, he was the owner of American Sanitary Services.

Graveside services were held March 28 at Mt. Carmel Methodist Church with the Rev. Travis Eidson officiating. Serving as pallbearers were James Boone, Richard Williams, Mike Chase, Aubrey Mitchell, David Payton Jr. and Allen Payton.

Survivors include his daughter, Jean Lane of Franklin; sons, Carl H. Payton Jr., David Payton Sr., Mike Payton, Eric Payton, all of Newnan; sisters, Grace Gordon, of College Park, Brownie Wilkens of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Georgia Peak of East Point; sister-in-law, Ellen Payton of Cincinnati, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

MR. CLIFFORD KENNETH RITTERBACH

Mr. Clifford Kenneth Ritterbach, 86, of Hamilton Drive in Newnan died march 20, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born April 28, 1910 in West Mineral, Kan., Mr. Ritterbach was the son of the late Quirrin Joseph Ritterbach and Ida Celestine (Hobbs) Ritterbach and the husband of the late Satie Wave (Thompson) Ritterbach. He was a retired inventory clerk with Toledo Scales.

Funeral services were held March 26 in Millbury, Ohio with interment following in Lake Township Cemetery.

Survivors include his daughter, Helen Johnson of Newnan; sons, James Ritterbach of Gibsonburg, Ohio, Stanley Ritterbach of Warren, Mich., John Ritterbach of Perrysburg, Ohio; sister, Dorothy Duty of Monroe, Mich.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

MRS. SUSAN CALHOUN SIMPSON

Mrs. Susan Calhoun Simpson, 89, of Glenmar Drive in Newnan died March 26, 1997 at her home.

Born Dec. 25, 1907 in Coweta County, Mrs. Simpson was the daughter of the late Calhoun M. and Ridy (Powel) Hill and the widow of John James Simpson Sr. She was a member of Newnan Presbyterian Church and a homemaker.

Graveside services were held March 28 at Oak Hill cemetery with Dr. Harry Barrow officiating.

Survivors include his granddaughter, Susan Elizabeth Simpson of Covington; daughter-in-law, Pat S. Hodges of Marietta; cousin, Laelius Davis of Newnan; and nephew Walton Fink of Atlanta.

MRS. ALITA STATON

Mrs. Alita Staton, 64, of Sharpsburg died March 24, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.

Born Oct. 7, 1932 in Atlanta, Mrs. Staton was the daughter of the late James Nerle Lastinger and Letty (Holtzclaw) Lastinger. She was a homemaker.

Graveside services were held March 26 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include her husband, Charles R. Staton of Sharpsburg; daughter, Melissa O. Staton of Newnan; and son, David Staton of Hardwick.
