MR. JAMES SCOTT HAMLETT

Mr. James Scott Hamlett, 77, of Pulaski, Tenn. died Aug. 17, 1997 at Centennial Hospital in Nashville.

A retired civil service worker, Mr. Hamlett was the son of the late Miller and Duella Jones Hamlett.

Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at Bennett-May Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim King officiating. Interment followed at Maplewood Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Lou McKnight of Pulaski; daughters, Jeanette Kirby of Newnan, Dorothy Kennedy of Orlando, Fla.; brother, Jones Hamlett of Callatin, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Madolyn Hamlett of Pulaski; and three grandchildren.

MR. J.C. 'NEAL' HOLDBROOKS

Mr. J.C. "Neal" Holdbrooks, 81, of Carrollton died Aug. 17, 1997 in Carrollton.

Born March 5, 1916 in Cleburne County, Ala., Mr. Holdbrooks was the son of the late Robert D. and Nellie Bell Cook Holdbrooks. He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Royce Holdbrooks; step-brother, Hoyt Stogner; half-brothers, Paul Holdbrooks, Lee Holdbrooks, David Holdbrooks; and sisters, Dorsey Johnson, Edna Thomas and Lucille Robinson.

Mr. Holdbrooks was a retired maintenance supervisor with Playtex and a U.S. Army veteran of World War Two.

Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at Martin and Hightower Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan with the Rev. L.O. Thompson and elder Homer Benefield officiating.

Interment followed at Oak Hill cemetery with Dr. O. Eugene Tyre officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Bynum Holdbrooks, Phil Holdbrooks, Charles Williamson, Lance Robinson, David Eady, Clyde Johnson, Randy Holdbrooks and Tony Holdbrooks serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle K. Holdbrooks; children, Syble Story of Newnan, Harry and Susie Holdbrooks of Carrollton; step-sisters, Myrl Williams of Buncombe, Pearl Williamson of Waco; half-brother, Frank Holdbrooks of Tallapoosa; and grandchildren, Gary Storey, Jennifer Holdbrooks, Lindsey Holdbrooks and Leighanthia Burns.

MR. BIRTUS BUELL 'B.B.' HORSLEY

Mr. Birtus Buell "B.B." Horsley, 83, of Carrollton died Aug. 17, 1997.

Born Aug. 7, 1914 in Carroll County, Mr. Horsely was the son of the late George Russell Horsely and Dicie Camilla Huckeba Horsely. He was a member of Cross Plains Baptist Church and a retired clerk at Banford's Grocery.

Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at Cross Plains Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Littleton and minister Marvin Horsely officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery with Garland Horsely, Darrell Horsley, Jerry Horsely, Clarence McRae, Ronnie Rigsby and Bobby Hubbard serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Mae Horsely of Carrollton; sister, Christine Rigsby of Newnan; brothers, Floyd Horsely of Carrollton, Euel Horsely of Glenloch; nieces and nephews.

MRS. JESSIE MAE REED McAFEE

Mrs. Jessie Mae Reed McAfee, 69, of Reynolds Street in Newnan passed away Aug. 14, 1997 at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta.

Born Jan. 23, 1928 in Coweta County, Mrs. McAfee was a member of Greater New Life Baptist Church in Newnan.

Funeral services were held Aug. 17 at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Clark officiating, assisted by the Rev. John Farmer, the Rev. Edward Foster, and the Rev. Reginald Wilkins. Interment followed at the church cemetery with Willie Hughley, Roosevelt Wade, Aubrey Jenkins, James Wood, O'Neal Barnes, Reggie Powell and Dexter Hunter serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her father, John Henry Reed; son, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Mary )McAfee; grandchildren, Randy McAfee and Erna McAfee; sisters, Katie Williams, Mr. and Mrs. William (Helen) Bradfield, Hattie Nora Freeman, Ollie Jean Watkins, all of Atlanta; brothers, George W. Reed of Dayton, Ohio, Merrill Reed of Atlanta, Mr. and Mrs. Larry (Diane) Reed of Newnan; sister-in-law, Dorothy Reed of Atlanta; uncles, Nathaniel Williams, Johnny C. Williams; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

MR. LAWRENCE O. ROWE

Mr. Lawrence O. Rowe, 75, of Rocky Mount died Aug. 17, 1997 at Hospice LaGrange.

Born July 21, 1922 in Meriwether County, Mr. Rowe was the son of the late Louie and Annie Matthews Rowe. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War Two, he was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a retired heavy equipment mechanic.

Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Power Witcher officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery with Nelson McCoy, Arnold Murphy, Kenneth Murphy, Gary Garner, Buster McCoy, Richard Law and Barry McCoy serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his brother, Aubrey Rowe of Duluth.

MRS. BOBBIE CANNON SHAW

Mrs. Bobbie Cannon Shaw, 81, of Newnan died Aug. 11, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Oct. 19, 1915 in Eatonton, Ga., Mrs. Shaw was the daughter of the late Elmer Cranston Cannon and Minnie (Thacker) Cannon and the widow of Jake Shaw. She was a retired sale employee.

Funeral services were held Aug. 13 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Holdridge officiating. Interment followed at Crest Lawn cemetery in Atlanta.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, John and Bobbie Carr, Marion and Pat Wells, all of Newnan; and grandson, Ty Crowe of Newnan.

MRS. LUCILE D. SIMS

Mrs. Lucile D. Sims of Martin Luther King Drive in Newnan passed away Aug. 16, 1997 at Sumser Retirement Village in Canton, Ohio. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Sellers-Smith Funeral Home.

MRS. LOTTIE LAVONIA SPRAGGINS

Mrs. Lottie Lavonia Spraggins, 74, of Spence Avenue in Newnan died Aug. 16, 1997 at Southwest Christian Hospice.

Born April 27, 1923 in Coweta County, Mrs. Spraggins was the daughter of the late James and Lottie Scott Traylor. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Newnan and was retired from the molding department at Playtex Corp.

Memorial services were held Aug. 19 at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Helms officiating.

Survivors include her brother, Edward Traylor of Newnan; sisters, Mary Witcher of Newnan, Irene Bryant of Sargent; nieces and nephews.

MRS. MATTIE R. WILLIAMS

Mrs. Mattie R. Williams of Henry Williams Drive in Newnan passed away Aug. 16, 1997 at Newnan Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home.

MR. DONALD RAY ARRINGTON

Mr. Donald Ray Arrington, 59, of Pine Mountain died Aug. 12, 1997 at Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan following a traffic accident.

Born Jan. 27, 1948 in Jacksonville, Ala., Mr. Arrington was the son of the late Ruth Abner Arrington. He was a floor designer and installer. His son, Scott Arrington, 22, also was killed in the accident.

Graveside services will be held Aug. 16 (today) at 3 p.m. at the Franklin City cemetery with the Rev. George Beasley officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannette Arrington of Pine Mountain; daughters, Donna Arrington of Lanett, Ala., Rhonda Arrington Rodgers of LaGrange; step-daughters, Teresa Moore of Columbus, Jaime Whitehead of Pine Mountain; step-sons, Tony Moore of Atlanta, Jeff Moore of Ft. Richardson, Alaska; father, Harvey Arrington of Senoia; sisters, Sara Gentry of Senoia, Almere Jackson of Peachtree City, Dorothy Overby of Palmetto, Jo Stringer of Corinth, Mary Doyle Bagley of Hogansville; brother, Edward Arrington of Corinth; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Roderic LeDarnell Bonner, 20, of Dixon Road in Newnan passed away Aug. 10, 1997 at Georgia Baptist Medical Center following an automobile accident.

Funeral services were held Aug. 13 at Sellers-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. J.W. Russell Jr. officiating, assisted by the Rev. H.M. Kemp and the Rev. R.W. Sutton. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Curtis Carroll, Gerald Boozer, Chris Thompson, McDonald Redwine, Jeff Truitt and Allen Wood serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his parents, Roger and Roslyn Bonner; sister, Roylanda LeShelle Bonner; brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Robney Lee (Tina Marie) Bonner, Roger LeWung Bonner; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry (Rose) Houzah, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lee (One Lee) Bonner; nephew, Mikal RyLee Bonner; aunts; uncles; and cousins.

MR. EDMOND DARRYL BAILEY

Mr. Edmond Darryl Bailey, 22, of Edwardsville, Kan., formerly of Newnan, passed away Aug. 10, 1997 in Kansas City, Mo.

Born Oct. 15, 1965, Mr. Bailey was a graduate of Richmond Academy in Augusta. He attended Detroit College Of Business and Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. and worked as a computer graphic design specialist with Spangler Computer Design and Printing Co. in Kansas City.

Mr. Bailey was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Moreland. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mrs. Emma Byrd Bailey and Marvin McWilliams.

Funeral services were held Aug. 14 at Mt. Cavalry Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray McWilliams officiating, assisted by the Rev. L.W. Booker, the Rev. Larry Warner, the Rev. Charles Smith and the Rev. Lowinston Jackson. Interment followed at the church cemetery with Robert Hardaway Jr., Christopher Rosser, Conrad Rosser, Kenneth Daniels, Corliss Rush and Lawrence Rush serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George E. Bailey of Chesterfield, Mo., Margaret McWilliams Bailey of St. Louis, Mo.; daughters, Keondra D. Walker of Augusta, Kendall Bailey of Edwardsville; brothers, George Desmond Bailey of Atlanta, Errin Braddock of Chesterfield; sisters, Cherie Bailey of St. Louis, Dara Braddock of Chesterfield; grandparents, Deacon and Mrs. George Bailey of Moreland, Ozie McWilliams of Newnan; aunts; uncles; nieces and nephews.
