Pamela Harden Burkhalter, 46
Pamela Harden Burkhalter, age 46, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at her residence. The Lyons native had lived in Toombs County most of her life. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her father, William Harden and a brother, Joel Harden.
She is survived by a daughter, Carla Higgs of Collins; her mother and stepfather, Faye and Jim McNair of Collins; her stepmother, Jenny Harden of Lyons; a brother, Randy Harden of Lyons; a sister, Teresa Cribbs of Midway; a half - brother, Greg Harden of Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Stephen Bowen, Bobby Ford, Randy Cribbs, Randy “Little Man” Harden Jr., Christopher Coursey and Joe Busbey.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 3, 2010, from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Little Flock Church cemetery near Collins.

Deacon Gordon Colwell
Deacon Gordon Colwell was born in Tattnall County, GA, to the late Della Colwell and Luther Mobley. He was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at the Doctors Hospital of Tattnall in Reidsville, GA. He was 86.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corps, and was honorably discharged in 1945. “Pammy, ” as he was more affectionately known, was a Gold Card Member (40 fraternal years) of the Free and Accepted Masons Jurisdiction, St. Matthew Lodge #585, and was a devoted deacon and choir member at St. Williams Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 64 years, Viola “Snook” Colwell; siblings, Norman Colwell and Ernest Mobley; and also grandson, George W. Lane Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Teresa C. Johnson of Reidsville, and Retha Mae Byrd of Miami, FL; one son, Curtis Colwell (Patricia) of Reidsville, GA; one sister - in - law, Birdie Beal of Odum, GA; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Murphy (Samuel), Corey Colwell (Sylathia), Chastin Colwell (Monica), Tamiko Brown (Tyrone), Gregory Hunter (Sophia), Chris Walker, Kenneth and Katheria Byrd; 20 great grandchildren, including Kacey, George W. III, Somayah, Jalisa, Chris Jr., Teresa, Tykerah, Brianna, Tayevon, Corey Jr., Cobey, Tamia, Christian, Jayden, McKenzie and Tyrone; two great - great grandchildren, E’Miya and George W. IV’ two grandpups, Muffy and P.J and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 28, 2010, at 11 a.m., at St. Williams Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Freddie Marshall, Dr. L.P. McNeal and Dr. Artis Carswell officiating.
Interment was in the Sandhill cemetery with full Military Honors and full Masonic Rites.

John Norris Kunney Sr., 74
John Norris Kunney Sr., the son of the late Lula Mae Kunney and Elijah Kelley, was born February 26, 1936, in Elmodel, GA, in unincorporated Baker County. The only son of Lula Mae, John graduated from East Baker High School in Newton, GA. He received his B.S. Degree in Agricultural Education from Fort Valley State College, Ft Valley, and his Master of Education Degree in Agricultural Education from Tuskegee University, in Tuskegee, AL. He also held both the Honorary State and American FFA Degrees and is an honorary member of the Tattnall County Young Farmers. He was also a lifetime member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.
John taught vocational agricultural in the Winder City School System, in Winder, GA, for two years before settling in Reidsville, where he retired after 35+ years as a Young Farmer’s teacher and businessman in that community. Under his guidance, many students received various honors for excellence in both NFA and FFA competitions.
John received many awards for outstanding service in the field of education and community service. He had the privilege of having both a national proficiency winner and a Star Farmer of America. His instructional program was developed to meet the needs of all the students in his classes. John had a special ability to make students want to do their very best. Up until his death, students who have participated in his classes often sought his advice.
A state licensed electrical contractor himself, John had 12 district winners in EMC electrification competitions. His chapter was a 15 - time district winner in the Georgia Power electrification contest and a seven - time state winner. Other accomplishments of his students include 72 winners in district and state livestock shows.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, John organized the Tattnall County Young Farmer’s Chapter to provide an educational program for the farmers in his county. He served as advisor for both the FFA and Young Farmer’s programs for a number of years. In the years of his career, he became a full - time advisor of the Young Farmer’s Chapter and guided them to state chapter award and the state farm family award. With his leadership, the chapter and community members raised over $70, 000 to fund the construction of a livestock pavilion, which is named in his honor.

John was a devoted member of St. Williams Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board, Sunday School and Bible Study teacher. He also held various positions in the Mount Calvary Missionary Association and was an active participant such as:

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mattie L Kunney of Reidsville, and his three children, Wanda and Quinton Mosley (son - in - law) of Reidsville GA, John N. Kunney Jr. of Savannah, Georgia and Christopher and Rossi Kunney (daughter - in - law) of Atlanta. He has three grandchildren Jamie Murphy, Brian and Jordan Kunney and two great grandchildren, Jaylin and Jaimee Murphy. He leaves in mourning one surviving uncle Benjamin T. Kunney of Elmodel, GA; aunts Gladys Dixon of Jacksonville, FL, and Fanny Mack of Augusta, GA; in - laws Lollie Rogers, Toy Wimberly, Rose Rogers, Edgar Wimberly, James Rogers and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition, the countless young men and women who looked to John as a father figure, advisor and friend.

Martha Sue McCranie, 73
Retired Nurse, Martha Sue McCranie, age 73, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010, after a long illness at Glenvue Health and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Southern Care Hospice. She is preceded in death by her son Rickey Painter.
She is survived by her husband, Angus J. McCranie Jr.; daughter and son - in - law, Jill and Selton Morrow, and grandson, Dee Morrow.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2010, at Glennville United Methodist Church. A memorial funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2010, from the Glennville United Methodist Church with the Reverends Thad Harvey and Jimmy Cason officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Tonja Willis Price, 39
Tonja Willis Price, age 39 of Reidsville passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at The Doctors Hospital of Tattnall County from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A class of 1988 graduate of Reidsville High School, she lived in Reidsville most of her life. Tonja loved traveling, shopping and going to the beach. She attended Abundant Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church. She is preceded in death by her mother, Elaine Barnard.
She is survived by her father: Bo Willis of Reidsville; four sons: Walter Kyle Driggers, Gordon Tyler Driggers, and Bryan Cody Driggers, all of Reidsville and Kodi Alan Price of Gilbert SC; a sister and brother - in - law, Melinda and Daniel Stemen of Reidsville; her maternal grandmother: Maude Barnard of Reidsville; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers were Rob Hutcheson, Alvin Barnard, Lee Willis, Ronnie Willis, Tony Willis and Terry Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Steven Newsome, Chris Davis, Shane Arnold and Jeffery Barnard.
Funeral service were held Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, with the Reverends John Price and Jim Rogers officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Phyllis B. Rewis, 77
Phyllis B. Rewis, 77, passed away peacefully, Friday, July 2, 2010, at her daughter’s residence after a lengthy illness, under the care of Community Hospice and her family. She was retired from the Tattnall County Board of Education and attended Pine Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, George W. and Vera Dudley of Oxfordshire, England, and husband, James Edwin Rewis of Reidsville.
She is survived by her daughter and son - n - law, Donna and Bobby Cartwright of Lyons; grandson, Brian (Donna) Dismuke of Macon; granddaughter, Michele (Steven) Dixon of Barnesville; step - grandson, Jason (Casey) Cartwright of San Marcos, TX; sister, Shirley Wilhelm of Pittsburg, PA; brother –in - law, Gene (Rodie) Rewis of Fountain Inn, SC; several great grandchildren, step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held Monday, July 5, 2010, from the Reidsville City cemetery with Rev. Jim Rogers officiating.

Doris L. Rush, 87
Doris L. Rush, 87, of Longwood, FL, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 27, 2010. She was raised in Dowling Park, FL and was the daughter of the late Bartow and Lota Croft Lee. After marriage to her first husband, Mr. Wilmarth Strickland, she moved to Jacksonville, FL. and spent 30+ wonderful years with him until his death in 1977. Mrs. Doris and her second husband, Mr. Dewey Rush moved to Glennville, and enjoyed 25+ years with each other before his death in 2002. At that time she moved to Longwood, FL, to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved spending time with her family. Mrs. Doris was preceded in death by her two husbands, five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her daughter and son - in - law, Debbie and Paul Spiess of Longwood, FL; sister, Dorothy Jones of Lake City, FL; grandchildren, Sherla (Ron), Brian (Kate), and Laura (David); and great grandchildren, Chyanne, Derek, Dillon, Julia, and Audrey.
Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Rush were conducted on Thursday, July 1, 2010, in the chapel of Gateway - Forest Lawn Funeral Home 3596 U.S. Hwy 441 S. Lake City, FL 32025 (386) 752 - 1954 with Rev. Syble Lively Smith, 77
Mrs. Syble Lively Smith, age 77, of Lyons died early Friday morning, July 2, in the Bethany Nursing Center of Vidalia after an extended illness. Mrs. Smith was a native of Tattnall County and had resided most of her life in Toombs County.
She was a retired seamstress and was a homemaker. She was a member of East Gordon Street Baptist Church of Lyons.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Archie M. Smith in 1979; a son, Donnie Smith in 1983; a grandson, Kevin Gordy in 1983, as well as her parents, Jim and Minnie Lively.
She is survived by four daughters, Patsy Joyner and her husband Cecil, Janice Graham and her husband Ronnie, Elaine Allen and her husband Larry and LeeAnn Gordy and her husband Wallace, all of Lyons; two sisters, Lauraette Jarriel and Ellen Jackson, both of Lyons; 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two great - great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 4, 2010, from the East Gordon St. Baptist Church of Lyons, with Rev. Greg Riner and Rev. Dane Glisson officiating. Interment followed in the Lyons City Cemetery.

John Anderson, 60
Mr. John Anderson, age 60, of 1100 - 1/2 Orange St, died Sunday morning, June 27, 2010, at his residence, under the care of SouthernCare Hospice of Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a native of Tattnall County; living most of his life in Toombs County. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps, a carpenter, electrician, painter, and air - conditioning repairman. You probably could say that he was a jack - of - all - trades. He could fix most anything. He was employed by Ronnie Stewart Funeral Home as a Vault Man for many years. He had many friends and family who loved him and will sadly miss him. Mr. Anderson was Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by his parents; Raymond and Carolyn Anderson, one brother; Roy Anderson, and one sister; Joyce Conaway.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Federer and Lori Gaither, both of Carrollton; two brothers and a sister - in - law, Roger and Shelley Anderson of Gaston, SC, and Harry Anderson of Vidalia; one sister, and brother - in - law, Carol and Chuck Parrish of Vidalia; one sister - in - law, Jan Anderson of Lawrenceville, GA; five grandchildren, Paige, Shae, and Lindsey Gaither and Cody and Katy Federer, all of Carrollton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 29, 2010, from the Chapel of Stewart Funeral Services in Vidalia, with Reverend Andrew Williams officiating. Interment followed at Old Anderson cemetery in Collins, GA.
Pallbearers were Blake Anderson, Van Lamb, Dennis Sapp, Ivan Jones, Shannon Rewis, and Ray Mosley. Honorary Pallbearers were SouthernCare Hospice, Harry Anderson, Paul Anderson, and Heath Pittman.
