Benjamin Gene Brackin, 70

Benjamin Gene Brackin, 70, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2010, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Alabama native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, and former Chief of Police for the City of Glennville. He was retired from the Department of Corrections at Smith State Prison, and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Katherine Brackin; and a son, Robert (Bobby) Brackin.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca (Becky) Brackin of Glennville; daughters and son - on - law, Gena Rogers of Claxton and Shae and Larson Stanfield of Glennville; brother, Dale Brackin of Decatur, AL; grandchildren, Lyndsay Brackin, Alannah Rogers, and Jubal Stanfield; three step - grandchildren, seven step - great - grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held at Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Oscar Rowe Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Cliff Kennedy, Charles Martin, Roger Phillips, Loy Blocker, Charles Block and Tommy Waters.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Theron E. Brannen, 72

Theron E. Brannen, 72, passed away Monday, September 6, 2010, at Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Center in Statesboro. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was employed at Union Camp Corporation in Savannah for many years and retired from Continental and Alltel Telephone Companies. He was a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fentress and Inell Poppell Brannen.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Carrie Ward Brannen of Glennville; children, Joey Brannen of Dublin and Donna Brannen of Asheville, NC; sister and brother - in - law, JoNell and L. H. Bland of Glennville; brother and sister - in - law Grady and Melba Brannen of Glennville; sister - in - law, Juanita Tarpley of Rome; granddaughter, Beth Horton of Dublin; great - grandchildren, Madison and Garrett Horton, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, September 9, 2010, at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial will be in Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Bland, Jerry Bland, Bobby Brannen, Joe Banks, Donnie Brannen, Jeremy Brannen, Jim Bland, Travis Bland, Johnny Tarpley and Billy Blocker.
Remembrances may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P. O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30458.

Mary Eunice Blocker DuRose, 70

Mary Eunice Blocker DuRose, 70, passed away, Saturday, September 4, 2010, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. Eunice was born September 1, 1940, in Long County, GA, to Vernon and Hattie Johnson Blocker. She was retired from Civil Service at Ft. Stewart and was a homemaker and a member of Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Buddy Blocker; and two sisters, Vera Dunham and Grace Mitchum.
She is survived by her husband, D.J.(Jack) DuRose of Glennville; daughters and sons - in - laws, Tammy D. and Tommy Rogers and Debbie D. and Dean Bland, all of Glennville; sisters, Myrtle Lee Futch and Jean Gumm both of Glennville; grandchildren, Travis and Kristen Rogers, Denine and Greg Durrence, Dena and Matt Smith, Tiffany Rogers and James Alexander; step - grandson, Chase McCloud; great - grandson, Gage Durrence; special friend, Kelly Potter, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Harris Nix and Brother Gordon Parrish officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were G.W. Dunham, Jimmy DuRose, William Dunham, Alan DeLoach, Kelvin Futch, Hunter McCall and Ellis Futch

Joyce Iona Hayes Harris, 72

Mrs. Joyce Iona Hayes Harris, 72, of Cobbtown, died on Friday, September 3, 2010, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. She is survived by her husband, Don Ivey Wiley Harris of Cobbtown; sons and daughter - in - law, Tommy Harris of Cobbtown and Toby and Brenda Harris of Douglas; daughter, Sandra Jordan of Cobbtown; brother, Talmadge Hayes of Cobbtown; six grandchildren and two great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 5, in the chapel of Wood Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Warren officiating.
Wood Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of the arrangements.

John D. “Jeff” Jeffers Sr., 83

John D. “Jeff” Jeffers Sr., known lovingly as “Boompop, ” age 83, passed away peacefully Friday morning, August 27, 2010, at his home. Services were held on Sunday, August 29, 2010, at Powersville United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Lanning officiating. Internment followed in Byron City Cemetery.
A native of Reidsville, Mr. Jeffers was a longtime resident of Byron, distinguished Navy veteran of WWII, member of Rutland Masonic Lodge #298 F&AM and was retired from Carolina Freight Carriers. Having raised his family in Byron, he was an active member of Powersville UMC and was the former commander of the Navy Veterans Seabees Association of Macon.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Marie; sister, Hazel McCall of Loganville; children, John D. “Jeff” Jeffers Jr., (Dena)Phyllis Jacks, and Nona Jones; grandchildren, Chuck Asbell, Stacey Stubbs (Kevin), Catherine Schlabach (Allen), John D. “JD” Jeffers III, John C. Jeffers, Cassidy Ann Jeffers and a great grandson, Tyler Stubbs, all of Byron.
Family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Powersville UMC, 245 Lakeview Road, Byron, GA 31008, or Hospice of Central Georgia, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA. 31210.
Rooks Funeral Home in Byron is in charge of arrangements.

Russell Wilson, 54

Funeral services will be held for Mr. Russell Wilson, (U.S. Army Retired) at 11 a.m., Monday, August 30, 2010, at Saint Paul Church of God in Christ in Surrency, GA. Mr. Wilson passed on Monday, August 23, 2010, at a local hospital in Savannah. Interment followed at the Georgia Veteran’s memorial cemetery in Glennville, with full military honors.
Russell was born on February 1, 1956, to Willie Wilson Sr. and Mary Louise Wilson of Oktibbeha County (Starkville), MS. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and attended Henderson Elementary School in Oktibbeha County. Russell graduated from Starkville High School in 1974. After graduation, Russell enlisted in the United States Army and served until he retired in 1995.
Russell’s tour of duties included: Fort Knox, KY; Fort Hood, TX; Korea, and Germany. He also served in the Gulf War/Desert Storm. During his military career he received various awards and medals. Upon his retirement his last duty station was at Fort Stewart, GA.
He was united in holy matrimony to the former Miss Janet Latrelle Gibbs on February 16, 2005.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife; sons and daughters - in - law, Kai, Gemini and Denise, Kenyardrick, Delloyd and Diajarita; daughters, Felicka and Angel; brothers and sisters - in - law, Walter Earl and Marvel, Charles Edward and Francis, Willie and Mary; sisters and brothers - in - law, Elizabeth Ann and Jodie Ooutlaw, Esther Ruth and Leo Ward; father and mother - in - law, Jimmie and Flossie M. White; brothers - in - law, Troy and Kathy Gibbs, Lothair White, Dewayne and Simone White; grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Selwyn R. Blackstone Jr., 81

Selwyn R. Blackstone Jr., age 81, passed away Saturday August 21, 2010, in Kansasville, WI.
The Wisconsin native had lived in Collins since 1979. He was retired from Benton Lee’s Steak House and owned a Grey Hound and Whippet farm. Selwyn was a kind, giving and phenomenal man.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Selwyn and Beatrice Blackstone; brothers, Robert and Larry Blackstone and a sister Lilly Blackstone.
He is survived by his sweetheart of 30 years, Yvonne Clark of Collins; daughters and sons - in - law, Roxanne and Mike Pfarr, Michelle and Chirs Bendix, both of Wisconsin, and Amanda and Daniel Johnson of Collins; sons and daughters - in - law, Michael and Tina Blackstone of Wisconsin, and Jason and Claire Clark of Vidalia; brother, Donald Blackstone of Wisconsin; sister, Judy Blackstone of Wisconsin; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010, from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
Memorials may be given to Tattnall County CARES, P.O. Box 2356, Reidsville, GA 30453.

Chalala Elease Mobley Blocker, 91

Chalala Elease Mobley Blocker, 91, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010, in Immokalee, Florida. The Long County native had lived in Glennville and Immokalee most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Immokalee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Blocker; children, Doris Graham and Myrtis Ann Shoeman and four grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Margie (Frank) Narki of Sebring, FL, Cleveland (Carolyn) Blocker, Curtis (Brenda) Blocker, Kenneth (Barbara) Blocker, all of Immokalee, FL and Kathy (MG) Ford of Labelle, FL; 15 grandchildren, 39 great - grandchildren, four great - great - grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 21, at 4 p.m., from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Pigot Branch Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kenny Blocker Jr., Dean Blocker, Jerry Blocker, Bruce Blocker, Curtis Blocker Jr., Greg Blocker, Scott Blocker, Brian Blocker, Rick Blocker, David Graham and Steve Graham.

William “Bill” Monroe Blocker Jr, 69

William “Bill” Monroe Blocker Jr, age 69, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Evans Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of his life. He was a retired farmer and a avid race car fan. He attended Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Regenia Blocker, and parents, Monroe and Thelma Blocker.
He is survived by his son, Cale Blocker of Glennville, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Spencer Moore, Elder Hugh Thompson and Elder David Summerford officiating. Burial followed in Beards Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John T. Durrence, Gary Branch, Charles Blocker, Danny Blocker, Scott Thompson, and Jerome Sheffield.

Doris Hunter Collins, 80

Ms. Doris Hunter Collins, age 80, passed away Saturday August 21, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life prior to moving to Jacksonville 20 years ago. She was a homemaker who loved to read and was a member of the Reidsville Baptist Church. Ms. Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Vonyer Collins and her parents, Onis and Mollie Lynn Hunter; siblings Jewel Harvey Jackson, Annie Groover and Josie Lanier.
She is survived by her children, Dottie Bunnell and her husband Jerry of Forsyth, GA, Steve Collins and his wife Jane of Amelia Island, FL, Susan Collins of Yulee, FL, and Carol Kimsey of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Buck Hunter and his wife Vada of Gainesville, GA; five grandchildren, Nikki Ingram, Tori Steeley, Katie Hasty, Hunter Kimsey and Ethan Kimsey; one great grandson, Parker Ingram; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers wer e J.L. Hunter, Bernard Taplye, Billy Harvey, David Groover, Cliff Smith, and Kenny Hunter.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 25, at the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Interment followed the service at the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Reidsville Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 181 Reidsville, GA 30453.
