James C. Sharpe, 79
Mr. James C. Sharpe, 79, was born in Toombs County, GA, on September 2, 1929, to the parentage of the late Nathaniel and the late Carrie Mae Sharpe. He was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County, GA. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church of Reidsville, GA. He passed away Friday, February 6, 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Alethia Costen Sharpe of Reidsville; two sons, David Alvin Sharpe of Reidsville, and Joseph Clinton Sharpe of Portland, OR; two sisters, Eidell Smith of Lyons, and Mary Virginia Sharpe of Vidalia; a brother, Dawson Sharpe of Reidsville; mother - in - law, Johnnie Will Costen of Claxton; uncle, Curtis Reliford of Plainfield, NJ; a goddaughter, Sandra Rice of Lyons, and several other relatives and friends.
The body will lie in state at the Vincent R. Drummer Funeral Home, Vidalia, GA, on Friday, February 13, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the Bethel A.M.E. Church of Reidsville, from 7 - 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 14, 2009, at 11 a.m., at the Bethel A.M.E. Church in Reidsville, GA, with Dr. L. Perry McNeal officiating. Reverend Cleo Conaway will be delivering the eulogy. The Reverend James Levert is pastor. Interment will follow in the Organy Mill cemetery in Tattnall County, GA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of J.C. Sharpe may be made to the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Betty Jean Nesbitt Smith, 61
Betty Jean Nesbitt Smith, age 61, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2009, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. A native of Long County, she was born to the parentage of Maggie D. Wright Nesbitt and Redell Nesbitt. She was a devoted wife and mother. She earned her license as a certified nursing assistant and obtained employment with the Glenvue Nursing Home. She also worked for home health care as a domestic, assisting patrons with daily home living skills. A devoted member of Faith Temple Ministries, she was very involved with many auxiliaries of the church such as secretary and church mother, president of the women’s auxiliary and community outreach for the handicapped.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Smith; two sons and their spouses, John Larry and Rikki Smith of Hinesville, Paul Michael and Bonnie Smith of Glennville, three daughters and spouses, Lisa Smith of Glennville, Ida L. and Tim Guest of Ludowici, Sandra and Reggie Lovett of Hinesville; six brothers and spouses, Devon Wright of Glennville, Marvin Nesbitt, James Nesbitt, Virgil and Carrie Nesbitt of Ludowici, T. J. and Betty Nesbitt of Philadelphia, PA, Al and Rita Nesbitt of Ft. Washington, MD; three sisters and spouses, Suzette and Herbert Jordan of Columbia, SC, Regina Williams, Sarah and Trent McArthur of Glennville; and10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Faith Temple Ministries, 53 Church Corner Road, N.E., Sandhill Community, in Glennville, GA. Her body will be placed in the church at 12:00 noon. Interment followed in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, Ludowici, GA.

Robbie Lee Cason, 67
Robbie Lee Cason, 67, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Bulloch County native had lived in Tattnall County all of his life. He served as Chief of Police in Cobbtown in 1975 and as Chief of Police in Reidsville from 1975 - 1977. He retired from the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Department after 22 years of service and had served the past nine years in many capacities as a Reserve Deputy. He also served as a City Councilman in Reidsville for District 2, a Justice of the Peace and a Constable. He was a member of Georgia Peace Officers Association and a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Glennville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Redetha Bath Cason; sister, Catherine Weathers and brother, James Cason.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Leola Cason of Reidsville; children, Patricia and Timmy Barnard of Reidsville, Laura and John Reddish Sr. of Reidsville and Robin and Douglas Yendell of Augusta; special former son - in - law, Ricky Curry of Reidsville; brothers, Jolly Cason of Glennville, Kyle Cason of Statesboro, Roger Cason of Rincon, Dwight Cason, Larry Cason and Terry Cason, all of Glennville; sisters, Virginia Bragg of Midway and Juanita Williams of Glennville; grandchildren, Robbie and Cassandra Barnard, Kenneth and Brittany Barnard, Jamie Reddish, John and Krystal Reddish, Joshua Curry and Caleb Curry; step grandchildren, Alex and Tommy Yendell; great - grandchildren, Camryn Barnard and Maddox Reddish. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 30, 2009, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville with Reverend James M. Holland and Reverend Oscar Rowe Jr., officiating. Burial followed in Pine Grove Baptist Church cemetery on Hwy. 280 near Reidsville.
Pallbearers were Jeff Weathers, Tony Cason, David Cason, Daniel Cason, Ronnie Cason and Roger Wayne Cason. Honorary pallbearers were Sheriff Quinton Rush and Deputies of the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Department.

Maxine Caswell, 70
Mrs. Maxine Caswell was born October 8, 1938, to the late David and Lillie Mae Hall, who preceded her in death. She departed this world on February 2, 2009, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Robert Caswell, who also preceded her in death. She was a member of Mt. Zion Outreach Ministries of Glennville, Georgia.
She leaves to cherish her memories five sons, Calvin (Thelma) Caswell of Hinesville, GA, Tracey (Sonjay) Caswell of Lyons, GA, Anthony Caswell, Timmy (Rochelle) Caswell, Roderick (Andrea) Morris, all of Glennville, GA; four daughters, Kathy Caswell, Charlene Caswell, Nikki Bacon, all of Glennville, GA, and Sharon Benton of Savannah, GA; three sisters, Betty Hall of Trenton, NJ, Laverne Gooden of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Patricia (Michael) Shider of Waycross, GA; two brothers, David (Diana) Hall Jr. of Orange Park, FL, and Thomas Hall of Camilia, GA; 18 grandchildren, eight great - grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at First African Baptist Church in Glennville, GA. Visitation will be held Friday, February 6, from 6 - 7 p.m. at King and Son’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the First A.B. Cemetery.

Doris Coalson, 68
Doris Coalson, age 68, passed away Monday afternoon, February 2, 2009, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Poland native had lived in Texas many years moving to Glennville twenty - six years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Glennville. She loved gardening, cooking, reading books and talking on the phone with her friends.
She is survived by: her husband of 37yrs., Jimmy Coalson of Glennville; daughter and son - in - law, Mirjam and James Ward of Glennville; two sisters, Liesel and John Hingst of Montana, and Christiane Reichel of Germany; three grandchildren, Caleb, Aden and Brendon Ward of Glennville
Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00pm Thursday, February 5 from the Chapel of Georgia Veterans cemetery in Glennville.

Thomas Vernon “Mutt” Collins, 84
Thomas Vernon “Mutt” Collins, 84, entered into rest December 9, 2008, at his residence in Tallahassee, FL, surrounded by his family. The Tattnall County native was the son of the late Leonard and Sallie Collins. T.V. lived in Jacksonville, FL, for fifty years before moving to Tallahassee two years ago and was a retired accountant. He was a graduate of Stetson University and was an avid hunter and golfer. He was a member of the Fellowship Presbyterian Church and a former member of South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and as a trustee for many years. T.V. was known for his great sense of humor and was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mae L. Collins.
He is survived by his son, Tom Collins (Nancy) and daughter, Mary Kay Williams (Tommy) both of Tallahassee, FL; brother, Ray Collins of McDonough; five grandchildren, Nicholas McGovern (Stephanie), Tommy Collins, III (Corey), Brad Williams, (Jamie), Clay Williams and Drew Williams (Michelle); and three great grandchildren, Brady and Colin McGovern and Zackary Lamprecht.
A gathering of family and friends for the cremains burial was held Saturday, January 31, 2009, at 12:00 Noon at the Sunlight cemetery in Cobbtown. His nephew, Rufus Powell, gave the eulogy. Funeral services were held in December in Tallahassee.

Ray D. Edenfield, 79
Ray D. Edenfield, 79, died Friday, January 30, 2009, at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, FL. The Emanuel County native and son of Perry and Sally Strange Edenfield lived in Jacksonville most of his working life. In 1992, he moved to Oak Park and lived for 11 years before returning to Jacksonville. Ray was an Army veteran and a manager with K - Mart for 20 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane Scarborough (Terry); two sons, Delone Ray Edenfield and Andrew Jerome Edenfield (Kelly) all of Jacksonville; brothers, Harry Edenfield ofJacksonville and Ed Edenfield of Savannah; six grandchildren, Sheila, D.J., Dianna, Melissa, Cody and Chase; and great grandchildren, Kayla and Hope.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Minister Mike Kinchen officiating. Burial followed in the New Hope cemetery near Lexsy.
Pallbearers were Cody Edenfield, D.J. Edenfield, Terry Scarborough, Chris Wilkes, Billy Edenfield and Greg Wilkes.

Lovarn Grantham (Rootman), 57
Mr. Lovarn Grantham (Rootman) passed away Sunday, January 25, 2009, at his home in Long County after a short illness. He was born in Tattnall County, GA, to the late Barney Grantham and Claudie Mae Bacon on June 13, 1951, and was raised by the late Mrs. Arles Bacon.
He attended Long County and Tattnall County public schools. He was a member of First African Baptist Church in Glennville, GA and joined under the leadership of Reverend Martin Bacon. He was a farmer for many years for G&R Farms in Glennville, GA.
He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, Geraldine Tillman of Brooklyn, New York and Betty (Otto) Lewis of Glennville, GA; two brothers, Jimmy Bacon of Glennville, GA and Melvin Grantham of West Palm Beach, FL; a special friend, Johnnie Mae Moody; special cousins, Donohue McNeal, Jean McNeal and Nathan Bacon and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at First African Missionary Baptist Church in Glennville, GA. Interment followed in the Hallman Cemetery.

Timothy Martin Groover, 48
Timothy Martin Groover, 48, died Wednesday, January 28th in Columbus, GA. Tim was born November 6, 1960, in Tattnall County. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Enoch Groover Jr., and the late Rosetta McCloud Walker, who cared for and positively influenced Tim’s early childhood.
Tim graduated from Glennville High School in 1978. He enjoyed a highly successful career as an interior designer and master florist for over 30 years. He was featured in multiple magazines and newspapers showcasing his extraordinary talent. He owned and operated St. Simons Florist for 15 years and also worked as a freelance designer and consultant throughout the southeast.
Tim was a loyal supporter of the American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, and Safe Harbor Shelter, planning fundraising events and Galas, and served for ten years on the Board of the Coastal Area Support Team in Brunswick, Georgia.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Anne Anderson Groover of Glennville; one brother, Gregory Enoch Groover of Baxley; two sisters, Gina Waters (David) and Matilda Moncrief (Don) of Claxton; nieces and nephews, Ashley and Lyndsey Groover of Statesboro, Clay Waters of Athens and Will Waters of Claxton, Heather Leone of Glennville and Andrew Moncrief, U.S. Coast Guard, currently stationed in Puerto Rico; aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends, Lamoun Allen Conley, whom Tim lovingly referred to as “my dear sister.”
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2009, at Smyrna Baptist Church, Highway 250, Glennville, GA, at 2:00 p.m.

Molly M. Stafford, 61, passed away, Saturday, January 31, 2009. The Tennessee native had lived in Savannah before moving to Glennville six years ago. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Stafford.
She is survived by a daughter and son - in - law, Brandy and Travis Rogers of Glennville; grandson, Talon Rogers of Glennville; sister, Judy Land of Chattanooga, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial were private.

James H. Stepp, 74, died Friday, January 23, 2009. The native of Kentucky enjoyed reading and spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Lutrell Stepp; daughters, Linda Woodcock, Darlene Denmark and Shirley Fawley; son, Arville Robinette; sisters, Maxine Young and Mildred Canie.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 27, from Cobbtown Baptist Church with burial in the sunlight Cemetery.
