Mrs. Beverly Ann Thomas, 62
Mrs. Beverly Ann Thomas, 62, of Lyons died on Thursday, December 14, 2006, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Melvin Thomas.
She is survived by: daughters and son - in - law, Jennifer and Danny Flowers of Lyons, Stephanie Thomas of Jacksonville, and Ashley Williams of Reidsville; mother, Ruby Sapp of Reidsville; a sister, Susan Sapp of Reidsville; brothers, Gerry Sapp and Rhode Sapp, both of Jacksonville; six grandchildren; and one great grandson.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, December 16, 2006, in the Chapel of Wood Funeral Home, with burial in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Wood Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of the arrangements.
Clinton Daughtry III, 33
Clinton Daughtry III passed away Saturday, December 9, 2006. He was born to Clinton Jr. and Laverne Mobley Daughtry on December 9, 1973. He is the grandson of Little Boy and Bill Mobley
He is preceded in death by two sisters.
He leaves to cherish his memories a wife, Rashanda Daughtry of Fort Pierce, Florida; five children: Clinton Daughtry IV, Vontavious Daughtry, Asia Daughtry, Rayshawn Daughtry, and Nioca Daughtry, all of Fort Pierce; his loving parents of Fort Pierce; and a grandmother, Annie Lee Daughtry of Sylvania.
He is survived by three brothers: Bernard Daughtry of Savannah, Henry Lee (Tonya) Golden, and Edward Davis, Jr., of Fort Pierce; three sisters: Lawanda Daughtry (Fritzner) Similien, Charmaine Daughtry of Fort Pierce, and Brenda Daughtry of Savannah; five aunts: Helen (John Jr.) Harvey, Gloria (Sam) Hill, and Geraldine (E.C.) Davis, all of Glennville; Gwitha (Willie Earl) Warren and Linda Williams of Hinesville; Ruthie Lee (Uley) Robbins, Denise (Terry) Simmons of Sylvania, and Ethel (Harry) Parker of Rocky Ford, Georgia; six uncles: Jerry (Diane) Mobley of Savannah, Curtis (Melann) Daughtry, Ezekiel (Renee) Daughtry, and Richard (Shirley) Daughtry, all of Fort Pierce; and Ernest Daughtry, and Jeff (Latrell) Daughtry of Sylvania.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 16, at 2 p.m. in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Lester Kelly Denson, 88
On August 21, 1918, in Evans County, Georgia, Lester Kelly Denson, the eighth child of Esau Denson and Minnie Denson, was born. The last son born to this union, he was a delight and joy to his family. He had five sisters, Ollie, Nellie, Ida Bell, Elnora, Thelma, and three brothers, Rema, Randall and Lonzy. Five siblings preceded him in death.
Lester was educated in the Evans County Public Schools. He was raised and lived in Claxton, Georgia. There he met and married
Clara Bell Porter in the early 1940s. She preceded him in death. Soon after, Lester decided to move to New Jersey. There he became the owner of a small sanitation company. He remained there for almost five years and then returned to Glennville, Georgia.
In Glennville, Lester became a policeman and served the city for several years. He also worked as a school bus driver for Tattnall County Public Schools. He had a love for children and would often coach various sports. The children were very fond of him.
He frequented many churches, but most times he attended Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Claxton, Georgia. Though Lester never joined, he enjoyed the fellowship there and receiving the word.
Years passed and Lester met Willie Bell Bacon. She became his close friend and companion. She, her children and grandchildren became a family to him. They affectionately called him “Pee - Paw.” Willie Bell later passed away, also preceding Lester in death.
After retiring from the Tattnall County Public Schools, he supplied with the community with fresh vegetables and fruits. Often times his customers were unable to pay him, but that did not stop him from making sure that they received what they needed. He was a kind natured person and had a generous spirit.
When Lester’s health began to decline, he was brought to Miami in August, 2002 to be closer to his sisters where he could be cared for. On Monday, December 4, the Lord reached down and extended His mighty arm and told Lester to come and take his rest. Lester leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Ollie Denson Washington and Nellie Denson Johnson; one brother, Rema Denson; a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. L. Perry McNeal officiating at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Groveland, Georgia.

Mary Gordy, 96
Mrs. Mary Gordy, 96, passed away early Friday morning at her residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Laurens County native had lived in Johnson Corner and Jesup many years moving to Reidsville in 1978. She was retired from the Wayne County Board of Education. Mrs. Gordy was the oldest member of the Reidsville Baptist Church, a member of the Sunshine Group and the Hattie Roundtree Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ward T. Gordy; son, Eugene Gordy; daughter, Christine Brown; and a granddaughter, Donnah Sue Gordy.
She is survived by her son, Weldon Gordy of Reidsville; son - in - law, Perry Brown of Reidsville; three grandsons, Tommy (Leslie) Brown of Cartersville, Fred (Candace) Brown and Jimmy Brown, all of Reidsville; four great grandsons, Ryan, Matthew, Shawn and Hunter Brown; special friend, Hilda Tootle of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Glenn Williams, Neal Rogers, Buddy McCall, Floyd James, Jimmy Kennedy, and Richard Hilton. Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Rogers, Dr. Jesse Bradley, Reggie Ray, Leon Adams, and the Sunshine Group.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 11, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. at Reidsville Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Interment followed in the Hardens Chapel cemetery in Toombs County.

Louise McCullough Padgett, 83
Mrs. Louise McCullough Padgett, 83, died Monday, December 11, 2006, at her home. She was born and lived in Tattnall County most of her life. Mrs. Louise was a retired nurse’s aide at Metter Nursing Home and a member of the Cobbtown Baptist Church. She loved gospel music, cooking, crocheting and gardening. She made afghans to give to children in her church and was always wanting to help where needed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Padgett, Sr. and a son, John Henry Padgett.
Survivors are four sons and five daughters - in - law, Jesse and Laverne Padgett of Hephzibah, Grady and Margie Padgett of Cobbtown, Jerry and Wanda Padgett of Portal, Robert and Diann Padgett of Cobbtown, and Reba Padgett of Augusta; three sisters, Inez Padgett of Cobbtown, Katie Lee White of Savannah and Ruth Barker of Metter; 14 grandchildren and 27 great - grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, December 14, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Home, Cobbtown Chapel, with burial in the Sunlight Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Charles L. Taylor, 50
Charles L. Taylor, 50, of Guyton, died Thursday, November 30, 2006 at his residence after a long illness. The Chatham County native was Union Boilermaker with Local #26 of Savannah.
Survivors include his mother, Margie R. Hall of Savannah; a sister, Rosalind Hewett of Shallotte, NC; a brother, Raymond Taylor of Cobbtown; cousins, Wesley White and Lloyd White of Guyton; nieces and nephews, Tony Arnsdorff of Guyton, Terry Hair of Shallott, NC, Raymond Taylor III of Atlanta; and Jessie Taylor of Vidalia.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, December 4, in the chapel of the funeral home. Internment was in Bonavonture Cemetery.

James Alvin Anderson, 76
James Alvin “Poor Boy” Anderson, 76, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2006, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick. He was born December 2, 1930, in Elbert County, Georgia to Clarence and Edna Anderson. He lived in Glennville and Long County for many years, moving to Jesup 42 years ago. He served in the Georgia National Guard from 1949 to 1952, and was retired from the Wayne County Board of Education after 16 years as a mechanic with the bus fleet. He owned and operated “Poor Boys” Monument Company for 42 years and enjoyed fishing and being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances Johnson Anderson of Jesup; son and daughter - in - law, Edwin and Brenda Anderson of Jesup; daughters and sons - in - law, Gloria and Barry Flowers, Allene and Chris Needham, all of Jesup; sister, Jean Reed of Plattville, CO; brother, Paul Anderson of Plant City, FL; three grandchildren, Erika Ginn, James Edwin Anderson, Jr., and Ashlyn Needham; three great - grandchildren, Jadalynn Ginn, Johnathan Ginn, and Hunter Logan Anderson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Manning and Rev. Jimmy Bargeron officiating. Burial followed in Pigott Branch Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bobby Parker, Jimmy Parker, Logan Porter, Johnny Flowers, Hugh Reddish, and Gene Reddish.

Carolyn Teasdell Barnes, 49
Mrs. Carolyn Teasdell Barnes, the daughter of the late Inez and David Teasdell, was born February 18, 1957, in Lyons, Toombs County, Georgia.
She was baptized and joined St. James A.M.E. Church at an early age. As an active member for many years, she served in church organizations and community activities while also participating in the church choir. During her youth, she loved sports and was an avid athlete playing defense on her high school basketball team.
She was joined into Holy Matrimony to Mr. Basil E. Barnes, August 17, 1979; to this union two children were born, one preceded her in death. She resided in Florida for over 20 years and became a member of New Testament Church of God. She served as a homemaker and pursued a profession in Sales and Retail managing teams across multiple divisions. In recent years, she returned to Georgia and demonstrated love and dedication in caring for her mother, Mrs. Inez Teasdell.
Due to failing health, she departed this life on November 26, 2006.
She leaves to cherish her memories – a loving and devoted husband, Mr. Basil E. Barnes; one son, Mr. Richard E. Barnes; one daughter, Ms. LaKeena S Roberts; two brothers, Mr. David Teasdell, Jr., Mr Adolph Campbell; one grandfather, Mr. J. C. Campbell; one sister - in - law, Mrs. Inge Teasdell; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 2, 2006, at 11 a.m. at First African Baptist Church in Glennville, GA, officiated by Rev. Henry Frasier, Jr.
Interment followed in Brewton cemetery in Collins, GA.

James Ronald Fountain, 51
James Ronald Fountain born July 21, 1955, departed from this world on Tuesday November 28, 2006. Ronald was the son of Mary Fountain and the late Olin C. Fountain of Reidsville.
He was born in Vidalia, but lived the majority of his life in Reidsville when his father moved the family to Reidsville in 1954 when he began a career, which would last over 34 years with the Department of Corrections, beginning at Georgia State Prison and retiring from Rogers State Prison. Like his father, Ronald retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections. He began his career at Georgia State Prison as a Correctional Officer and worked his way up to hold the positions of Unit Manager at Georgia State Prison, Deputy Warden at Smith State Prison, later Warden at Scott State Prison and Ware State Prison. At the time of his retirement he was Assistant Regional Director for the Southeast Region. He was preceded in death by his father on October 23, 1997.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Susan R. Fountain of Reidsville; two sons, Colt and Devan Fountain both of Reidsville; his mother, Mary Fountain of Reidsville; a brother and sister - in - law, Donald and Mary Fountain of Glennville; two sisters and brothers - in - law, Vickie and Attriss C. Nail of Reidsville and Lisa and Gary Tyre of Vidalia; nieces and nephews, Evan and Emily Fountain and Ryan and Brooke Collins; and a great niece, Raegan Collins.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Sikes, Jerry Sikes, Thomas Byrd, Jesse Durden, Teddy Rewis and Tony Turpin. Honorary pallbearers were Department of Correction employees.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 1, 2006, at Reidsville Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Miller, Rev. Steve Bryant, Mr. Ricky Jacobs and Mr. Jimmy Sikes officiating.
