Naomie R. Durrence, 69
Naomie “Peaky” R. Durrence passed away Saturday, November 4, 2006, at Meadows Regional Medical Center. She was born April 19, 1937, in West Virginia and moved to Arkansas at age 12. She married
Jackey Durrence at age 17 and resided in Tattnall County. She was a wonderful wife, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was greatly loved by all those who knew her. Though she was taken too soon from her family’s lives, she will always be in their hearts. They will love her always. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten. She was preceded in death by her sons, Randy and Joey Durrence.
She is survived by, husband, Jackey Durrence of Glennville; daughters and sons - in - law, Shanda and Pete Medlin, Mindy and Anthony James, all of Glennville; son, Mark Durrence of Glennville; sisters, Dreama, Veda, and Tutty and brother, Buddy, all of Mena, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Tisha (Jesse) Lott, Jonathan Medlin, Paige, Maggie and Summer James, Jason Durrence Bland, Justin Bland, Daniel Durrence, Amy Medlin, Tina Medlin; three great - grandchildren, Hannah and Devin Medlin, and Jacob Lott. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held Monday, November 6, 2006, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel with Elder W.H. Durrence and Rev. Oscar Rowe Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Beards Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Deacons of Loves Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.

Robert (Pop) Hollis, Jr., 78
Robert (Pop) Hollis, Jr., 78, died Tuesday, October 31, 2006. The Dougherty county native moved to this area from Savannah in 1995. He was employed as a machinist and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Brant Hollis.
He is survived by, daughter and son - in - law, Sherrie and Craig Thompson of Glennville; sons and daughters - in - law, Michael Hollis of Reidsville, David and Linda Hollis of Reidsville, Allen and Denise Hollis of Glennville; sister, Betty Long of Garden City; 14 grandchildren and 28 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 3 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Morgan officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Abbey East in Savannah.
Pallbearers were Glen Spikes, Raneldo Boyd, Ernie Stanfield, Glenn Smith, Rodney Johnson, and Michael Johnson.
Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Ohoopee Hunting Club.

Tammy Outlaw Nobles, 40
Tammy Outlaw Nobles, 40, died Wednesday, November 1, 2006, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The Dade County, Florida, native had lived in this area most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Pigott Branch Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Joyce Outlaw.
She is survived by, her husband, Charles Nobles of Ludowici; children, Thomas Chase Nobles of Ludowici, Steven Mark Taber of Kansas City, MO, Eddie Fergerson Fulton of Glennville, Amber Nicole Nobles of Glennville, and Candis Nobles Polk of Douglas; sisters, Sherrie Jo Miller of Kentucky and Julie Cranford of Glennville; brothers, John Wayne Outlaw of Glennville, Jeffery Bryan Outlaw of Glennville and Kerry Vaughn of Statesboro; and three grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held Friday, November 3, 2006, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Rev. Tim Jerritt officiating. Burial followed in the Pigott Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were, Robert Earl Driggers, Perry Dasher, Jesse Parker, Amber Nicole Nobles, Leanne DeLoach, Larry Moody and Caroline Cranford.

David Teasdell, 81
Mr. David Teasdell, age 81, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2006, at the Glenvue Nursing Home.
Funeral service will be Saturday, November 4, 2006, at 1 p.m. at The Little Rock Holiness Church in the White Pines Community. Burial in the Glennville City Cemetery.

Jack Russell Welch, 79
Mr. Jack Russell Welch, 79, passed away early Friday morning, November 3, 2006, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia. The Jefferson County native had lived in Savannah many years until moving to Reidsville twenty years ago. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired from Southern Bell, now known as Bell South, after 37 years of service.
He is survived by, his wife, Clara Iddins Welch of Reidsville; son and daughter - in - law, Rusty and Valarie Welch of Reidsville; daughter, Paula W. Arden of Rincon; five grandchildren, David and Kellie Arden of Guyton, Daniel Arden and Laura and Sean Berry, all of Rincon, Adam and Heidi Welch and Andrea Welch all of Reidsville; brother, John Welch of Reidsville; two nephews and three nieces also survive.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday, November 5 in the Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home Chapel.

Tommy Anderson, 48
Tommy Anderson, 48, died Wednesday afternoon, October 25, 2006, in Reidsville. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville all of his life. He attended the Reidsville Church of God. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Sue Anderson, and sister, Debra Jean Perez.
He is survived by, three daughters, Latisha Anderson, Ashley Anderson, both of Ludowici, Angel Anderson of Glennville; son, Tommy Lee Anderson of Ludowici; parents, Louis and Patsy Anderson of Reidsville; brother, Bobby Anderson of Reidsville; sisters, Velvet Juarez, Brenda Nopal, Betty Ramirez, Barbara Guiterrez, Diane Savai and Maria Corona, all of Reidsville; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held Sunday, October 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Hardy Crosby officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Johnny Blanton, Ricky Baatz, Gene Kirkland, Ron Savai, Kenny Merritt, and Ricky Baatz, Jr.

Fannie Carter, 87
Fannie Carter, 87, died Saturday, October 28, 2006 at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The native of Germany had lived in Savannah for many years prior to moving to Glennville 46 years ago. She was retired from Rotary Corporation and a member of Glennville First Baptist Church.
She is survived by: daughters and sons - in - law, Linda and Charles Simmons of Glennville and June and Wendell McCoy of Claxton; son and daughter - in - law, Wayne and Susan Carter of Augusta; nine grandchildren and 11 great - grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 30, 2006 at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial followed in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers included: Darby Stephens, Greg Stephens, Jack Carter, Derek Carter, Shane McCoy, and Aldon Graham.

Marvin Guy Cowart, 62
Mr. Marvin Guy Cowart, 62, died Sunday morning, October 29, 2006. The Tattnall county native lived most of his life there. He worked several years for The Country Gentlemen Barber Shop in Claxton before starting his own business in Collins, Marvin’s Barber Shop. He was devoted to visiting his homebound customers, as well as those in the hospital and nursing homes. He was a member of Rogers Baptist Church. He loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed helping other people.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Mellie Sue Collins Cowart, of the Hillview Community; sons and daughters - in - law, David and Tracie Newman, of Stillmore and Vander and Christy Cowart, of Metter; daughter: Marsha Cowart, of Statesboro; sisters, Vivian Wilson, of the Hillview Community, Lula Jean Spaminato, of Statesboro, and Dana Brown, of Claxton; Burley Beasley, of St. Mary’s Florida; mother - in - law: Mae Collins, of Hillview and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Rogers Baptist Church with burial following in the Church Cemetery

Sam Greene, 82
Mr. Sam Greene, 82, of the Hillview Community near Claxton, died Wednesday, October 28, 2006 at his home. He was born in Candler County, the son of Jim A. Greene and Anna McGahee Greene and had lived most of his life in Tattnall County. He was a farmer and an Army veteran serving in WWII. He was a member and Deacon of the Evergreen Baptist Church and former teacher of the Junior Sunday School class. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera Lanier Greene and a son, Jimmy Greene.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Cartee Greene of the Hillview Community; two sons and daughters - in - law, Bobby and Gina Greene of Hillview and Jeff and Debra Greene of Columbus, SC; step - son, George Greene of Cobbtown; step - daughters, Ann G. Akins of Portal, Joyce G. Lively and Janice G. Harris, both of Cobbtown; brother, Louis Greene of Cobbtown; eight grandchildren; three great - grandchildren and seven step - grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, October 27, 2006, at Evergreen Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Military honors were observed.
Pallbearers included: George Greene, Sandy Sanders, Harvey Lively, Howard West, Robert West and Greene Thrift. Honorary Pallbearers were Deacons of the Evergreen Baptist Church.

Paul Amos Nelson, 87
Paul Amos Nelson, 87, was born in Hartford, Conn., May 8, 1919. He died October 26, 2006, in Dallas, TX
His father, Willam. E. (“Uncle Willie” in Reidsville), was a Methodist missionary in Angola, West Africa, 1920 - 25, where younger brother, Stephen, was born in 1921.
The Nelson family was associated with the early days of the Nelson Hotel in Reidsville.
Before retiring in Dallas, Paul was sales VP for Virginia Chemicals Co. and had served as infantry officer in World War II.
He is survived by two sons, John Paul (Fla.) and Barry (Dallas). Also, by daughter Patti Nelson Miller, (N.Miami Beach).
