Terril Ambrose Jr., 35
Terril Ambrose Jr., age 35, passed away Monday, May 24, 2010, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Metter but lived in Tattnall County most of his life. He was a farrier and loved to hunt and fish. He had a deep passion for horses and enjoyed riding bulls and team roping.
He is survived by his parents, Terril and Angie Ambrose of Collins; grandmother, Ms. Wilma Ambrose of Claxton; sister and brother - in - law, Mary and Sammy Duncan of Ludowici; three nieces, Taylor, Alexis, and Allison Duncan; and several aunts, uncles and a cousin.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Marty Walker officiating. Interment followed in the Little Flock Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chris Ambrose, Rodney Morse, Daniel Johnson, Lonnie Hutcheson, Paul Howard, Reggie Ray, Robert Hutcheson and Johnny Wilson.

G.L. Davis, 65
Mr. G.L. Davis, age 65, of Collins, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, in the Tattnall Healthcare Nursing Home in Reidsville after an extended illness. He was a native of Toombs County; and had lived in Savannah for 22 years, before moving to Collins in 2000. He was a service station attendant, also was self employed, and attended the Collins Full Gospel Church in Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlon Walter Davis and Cornelia Sally Daniels Davis, and a brother, Willie Davis.
Mr. Davis is survived by one daughter, Theresa Davis of Stark, FL; two sons, Dewayne Davis and George Davis of Moultrie; three sisters and a brother - in - law, Betty D. Harrelson, Melba Davis, and Sharon and Eric Mack all of Collins, three brothers and a sister - in - law, Johnny and Pam Davis and Jehugh Hall Davis of Collins, and Billy Davis of Vidalia; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 23, in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Andrew Nelms officiating. Interment followed in the Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eric Mack, Joel Buttersworth, Terry Moser, Tommy Lanier, and Billy Lynn.

Dorothy Mattox DuRocher, 84
Dorothy Mattox DuRocher, 84, of Willow Creek Drive, completed her earthly journey on Tuesday, May 18, 2010. The family now knows she has eternal peace with her Lord and Savior. They will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., prior to an 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Trinity Church of the Nazarene at 4192 Hartley Bridge Road in Macon. Burial will take place at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, at Brewton cemetery in Hagan. Rev. Robert Brown will officiate.
Mrs. DuRocher, the daughter of the late Howell Parks Mattox and Mary Ethel Nelson Mattox, was born in Glennville on February 12, 1926, and had lived in Macon for the past 50 years. She had been a Christian since a young age, with the reading and studying of God’s word having always been a daily enjoyment of her life. Mrs. DuRocher will be remembered for her sharing of this love with her family. She attended Trinity Church of the Nazarene and was a faithful servant of the Lord her entire life. Mrs. DuRocher was retired from Robins Air Force base, and in her younger years, earned her single engine pilot’s license and traveled to many places, including Cuba. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Elmer DuRocher.
Mrs. DuRocher’s memory will be treasured by her daughters and sons - in - law, Robin and Alan Horton of Springfield, MO, Rhonda and Jimmy Beeland of Watkinsville, Penny DuRocher Janes and Mitch Porter, both of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Kelli Jones, Holli Janes, Joshua Janes, Kelsey Beeland, Bryson Porter and Hayden Porter; and by her great - grandchildren, Landon Pickering, Jackson Terrell and Sophie Swancey.

Eva May Foley Gonzalez, age 63, passed away Thursday May 20, 2010, at Hospice Savannah. The Virginia native had lived in Savannah most of her life. She worked for Walmart for 17 years and attended Coastal Cathedral in Savannah. She spent many hours reading her Bible and taking care of her Chihuahuas. She is preceded in death by her father, John Robert Foley and her daughter, Michele Restler.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Elizabeth Foley of Virginia; four daughters and a son - in - law, Judy Podgornik, Jewell Rankin, Joanne Oscar, and Janice and Tony Eppard all of Virginia; two sons, Shane Restler of Texas and Craig Steven Tirrell Jr. of Hinesville; sister and brother - in - law, Joyce and Al Beaupre of Savannah; brother and sister - in - law, Jimmy and Winell Foley of Glennville; ten grandchildren, three great grand - children, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Glennville Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home on Sunday, May 23, with the Rev. Jerry Knight officiating. Interment followed in the Beards Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Katherine Tipton Hiers, 39
Katherine Tipton Hiers, 39, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010. The Ohio native had lived in Germany, moving to Glennville in 1978, and was a 1988 graduate of Pinewood Christian Academy. After graduation she moved to Florida, where she lived until three years ago; then moving back to Glennville. She was previously employed with Southern Medical Group and was currently employed with Target Distribution Center. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and currently attended Cornerstone Bible Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Lee Tipton.
She is survived by her husband, Lonnie “Lucky” Hiers of Glennville; children, Brandon Lee Keeler (Lizmary), Leslie Lee Keeler, Brigitte Lee Keeler and Tyler Lee Jones, all of Glennville; mother, Ava Tipton of Glennville; paternal grandmother, Opal Simon of Toledo, OH; sister, Dawn Trammell (Tony) of Cloverdale, IN; brother, Danny Scott of Pilot Point, TX, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews of Toledo, and Oldenburg, Germany.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 24, 2010, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Ferrell officiating. Burial was private.

Katie Belle Jarriel, 16
Katie Belle Jarriel, age 16 passed away Monday, May 24, 2010, at Evans Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The Hazlehurst native had lived in Collins for the past seven years. She was a rising Junior at Pinewood Christian Academy. She was a member of the two time national championship cheerleading squad and was a member of the Cheer South All Star Team of Statesboro. She was a member of the One Act Play, the Honor Society and Rehoboth Missionary Baptist Church. Katie enjoyed singing, tumbling, water sports, horse back riding and hanging out with her friends.
She is survived by her parents, Phil and Paula Jarriel of Collins; sister, Kylie Ann Jarriel of Valdosta State University; brother, Hensley Jarriel of Georgia Southern University; grandparents, Bobby and Lucy Jarriel of Collins and Jackie Floyd Johnson of Hazlehurst, and several aunts, uncle and cousins.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday from the Rehoboth Missionary Baptist Church, and interment followed in the Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.

Garrett Steven Stiegman, 25
Garrett Steven Stiegman, 25, passed away, Tuesday, May 18, 2010. He was born July 8, 1984, in Savannah, and lived in Glennville and Charlotte, NC, most of his life. He regularly attended Abundant Faith Church in Reidsville, was an avid self - taught guitarist/songwriter, and a full - time student of the University of Phoenix. He was employed with Trane Residential Solutions of Vidalia as a Production Technician. He attended Tattnall County High School and was a graduate of Class of 2003 of Cabarrus Central High School in North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Glen and Imogene Stiegman.
He is survived by his parents, Steve Stiegman of Glennville, GA, and Kim Davis Hayes and step - father, J. T. of Charlotte, NC; stepbrother, Jonathan Carver of Hephzibah, GA; maternal grandparents, Shirley Purvis and Andy Whitson of Claxton, GA, and Buddy Davis of Savannah, GA; special second mother, Pam McCord of Glennville, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Martha K. Wright, 75
Ms. Martha K. Wright, age 75, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Community Hospice Inpatient Center in Vidalia. The Rochelle, GA, native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a nurse’s aid working with the local hospital and nursing home for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Amanda Hall; husband, Harold Kirkland; and a son, Buddy Kirkland.
She is survived by her son, Marty Kirkland of Reidsville; step children, Lamar (Sandy) Spikes of Hawthorne, FL, Janet (Allen) Jones and Glenda (Dennis) Durrence all of Reidsville and Dean (Jay) Pittman of Vidalia.
The memorial funeral services were held Sunday, May 23, from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. The Rev. Randy Watts officiated.

Henry P. Friend Jr., 65
Mr. Henry P. Friend Jr., age 65 passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia. The Indiana native had lived in Reidsville the past 27 years. He was a retired supervisor working with the Food Service Department with the Department of Corrections. He was a US Navy veteran and attended Hope Baptist Church. He loved building his kids’ and grandkids’ toys and taking them fishing. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Friend; mother, Bertha Friend and a grandson, Larry Webb.
He is survived by three sons and daughters - in - law, Dwayne and Shirley Friend of Hagan, Jimmy and Tawnya Friend of Reidsville, and Paul and Joan Friend of Salem, IN; four daughters and sons in law, Lynett and Jerry Turner of Brunswick, Susie and Larry Webb of Vidalia, Penny and Joe Stewart of Salem, IN, and Emily and Cesar Hernandez of Reidsville; his father, Henry P. Friend of IN; six brothers, John, David, Wayne, Charlie and Steven Friend all of IN, and Ralph Friend of PA; four sisters, Patty Garenn, Joyce Davis, Ann Short, Sara Mengedoht and Barbie Troop, all of IN; 23 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday May 20, 2010, from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Pastor Wally Hill officiated. Interment will follow in the Pineview Baptist Church cemetery with honors rendered by the US Navy. Pallbearers will be Casey Collins, Adam Reese, Ambrosio Hernandez, Sergio Flores, Wayne Stewart and Michael Daniels.

MAJ (Ret) Bud E. Sikes, 73
MAJ (Ret) Bud E. Sikes, 73, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at his home in Cataula, GA. He was born in Cobbtown on the family farm to Foy Preach Sikes and Estelle Sikes. He left school at age 15 and enlisted in the Army in 1952. After basic and Advanced Infantry Training at Fort Dix, NJ, he was sent to Korea as a rifleman, Barman. He served as a Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant in I Company, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was also promoted to Sergeant First Class in 1953 at age 17, which was youngest first sergeant during the War.
Again in Vietnam, he served as a Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Leader, and First Sergeant with Companies Alpha, Bravo and Charlie, 2nd Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment. He was also the First Sergeant of the 1st Admin Company, 1st Infantry Division during 1966 to 1968. During his enlisted service, he served in every NCO leadership position in Combat and Garrison at Company and Battalion level, including two tours in the USAIS Ranger Department, at the Florida Ranger Camp, Field 7, as a Lane Instructor.
Mr. Sikes was commissioned a Captain of Infantry while attending OCS in 1968, after serving as class president. His first assignment as an officer was assistant Brigade S3, 197th Infantry, Fort Benning, GA. Later he returned to Vietnam where he served as a Rifle Company Commander, C Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry Division and subsequently, as Senior Battalion advisor to 21st RVN Division. Returning to Fort Benning, he served as Commander of the 41st Airborne Battalion, TSD. This was followed with duties as the S1, S3 and XO of the 508th Support Battalion. Major Sikes’ last command was the Commander of the 10th Battalion, Infantry Training Brigade.
After this assignment, he was re - assigned as training officer in the Office Assistant Secretary Defense, the Pentagon, Washington, DC.
In January, 1981, Major Sikes signed a contract with Vinnell to work with the Saudi Arabian National Guard. His duties included two years as the Principal Instructor of the Command and General Staff Branch, two years as Senior Battalion advisor to the 1st Battalion, 1st Brigade and two years as the Director of the Installation. Completing six years of service with SANG. he entered Federal Civil Service in 1988 at Fort Benning. His assignments include Chief, Training Division, DPTM until 1993 and his current assignment as Chief, Management Support Division, Adjutant General Directorate for the U.S. Army Infantry Center in Fort Benning.
His education includes a Bachelor in Science from Troy State University in Troy, AL. His military education as a Noncommissioned Officer, he attended the 2nd Infantry Division Academy, the 3rd Infantry Division Academy, and the 7th Army Academy. He completed Ranger and Airborne Schools and the Jungle Warfare Course. As an Officer, he completed the Command and General Staff College, Infantry Officers Basic and Advanced Courses.
His awards include three Silver Stars, Seven Bronze Stars with Valor, five Purple Hearts, seven Air Medals, two army Commendation Medals with Valor, two Combat Infantryman’s Badges, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge and Civilian Service Award.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eva Milhous and three brothers, Eustace Foy Sikes, Tyner Sikes and Paul Sikes. Survivors are a son, Joshua (Jay) Sikes of Cataula and a daughter, Katherine (Kat) Sikes - Rowell and her husband, Rance, of Cumming; a sister, Evelyn “Pretty” Lassister of Carrollton; four brothers, Howard Sikes, Foy P. “Sharkey” Sikes Jr., Williard “Mann”Sikes, all of Cobbtown and Rayford “Bully” Sikes of Hagan; two step - grandsons, Blake and Zachary Rowell of Cumming; and his former wife, Melanie Sikes - Breckner of Foley, AL.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 21, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel with burial in the Sunlight Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be observed. Visitation will be Thursday evening 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
