Patricia Irene Berry, 74

Mother Patricia Irene Berry of Glennville, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010, at the Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, Ga.
The sun rose early in the morning on July 5, 1935. A baby girl was born by the name of Patricia Irene Coley to the late Richard Coley and Irene Edwards. Later in life she married the late Charles Henry Berry on February 27, 1955. Three children preceded her in death: Janet, Marquette, and Gwinnette.
Patricia leaves to cherish her memories her three daughters, Patricia Annette (Sylvester) Lovett of Glennville, Pennie Lee Berry and Bridgett Antoinette Berry both of Hinesville; three sons, James Frederick Berry of Swainsboro, Charles Anthony Berry of Mt. Vernon, GA, and Richard Levon (Addisalem) Berry of Iraq; one nephew and foster son: LaNorris (Maxzine) Coley of Reidsville; one step - daughter, Mrs. Verdie Cooper of Glennville, 11 grandchildren: Drexel, Delwin, Derrick, Matthew, Marquette, Anthony, Antonio, ChaRonda, Christopher, Meshia and Jameson; 11 great - grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Yvonne Primous of Reidsville, and Rosa Coley of Hollywood, FL; two aunts, Mrs. Kathaline Scrubbs of Savannah, and Mrs. Jewel Hill of Glennville; one brother - in - law, Robert Primous of Reidsville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Greater Zachariah Baptist Church in Glennville. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
King and Son’s Funeral Home of Glennville, was in charge of arrangements.

P. Luther Bootle

Mr. P. Luther Bootle of Atlanta passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010. He was retired long time employee of Rich’s Department Store. Luther had a love for his church, family and friends and his photography. He is preceded in death by his parents, Philip Luther Bootle and Grace Elders Bootle Long; his brother, William Terrell Bootle and sister, Grace Elders Bootle.
Mr. Bootle is survived by two nieces and two nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted 4:00p.m., Wednesday April 14, 2010, from the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Estelle Katherline Oliver Brown, 88

Estelle Katherline Oliver Brown, 88, of the Evergreen Community near Cobbtown, died April 12, 2010, after a sudden illness. She was born in Tattnall County the daughter of Tom and Maggie Taylor Oliver. She married Joseph Lester Brown January 31, 1942. She lived her entire life in Tattnall County residing since 1946 on the farm she shared with her late husband.
She faithfully served the Lord and was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church since 1950. She loved to garden and tend to the flowers and plants that surround her home and yard. She could often be heard singing to the Lord as she worked in her gardens. She was an expert in needle works. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting and sharing her talents with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joseph Lester Brown, and an infant daughter.
Survivors are a daughter and son - in - law Barbara B. Slater and Glen C. Slater of the Evergreen Community; grandson and granddaughter - in - law, G. Cleveland Slater, Jr. and Janie Mercer Slater of Alpharetta; grandson, Stanley H. Slater of Roanoke, VA; two great grandchildren, Carolina and Joseph Slater; two sisters Beulah Lane of Collins and Melrose Jones of Claxton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held Thursday, April 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel with Dr. Roger Branch and Dr. John Geerdes officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Brown, Tommy Brown, Robert West, George Holland, Lavanda Lynn and Eddie Oliver. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of the Evergreen Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances made be made to Evergreen Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 325, Cobbtown, GA 30420.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mildred Louise Woods Edenfield, 80

Mildred Louise Woods Edenfield, age 80, of Reidsville, passed away early Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
She was a native of Garfield, GA, and the daughter of the late Ernest and Mae Ola Claxton Woods. Mrs. Edenfield was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny E. Edenfield Jr.; siblings, E. B. Woods, Nancy Forehand, Paul Woods, Aaron Woods, Ola Mae Oglesby, George Ann Johnson and Linda Wheeler. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Primitive Baptist Church in Swainsboro.
She is survived by her son, Johnny R. Edenfield of Reidsville; two daughters, Debra Nelson of Oak Island, NC and Brenda Faye Oliver of Durham, NC; her brother, Matthew Woods of Forsyth; nine grandchildren, Nicole Aquino, John Courtney Marks, William John Oliver Jr., Morgan Oliver, Tyler, James and Jerome Edenfield and Jason and Clay Nelson; nine great - grandchildren, Ross Montgomery, Kameron Oliver, Bailey Ann Fay Smith, Grady Aquino, Elliott Aquino, Sheyanne Aquino, Joshua, Heaven and Hannah Marks.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 7, at 2 p.m., at Union Primitive Baptist Church near Swainsboro with Elder Sam Bowen officiating, assisted by Elder Tommy Roundtree. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Edward Edenfield, James Edenfield, Kevin Powell, Bruce Woods, Roger Wheeler and Elec Wheeler.
Johnson Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Barber Elders, 86

Betty Barber Elders, age 86, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the Community Hospice Inpatient Center in Vidalia. She was born April 17, 1923, in Hoosick Falls, NY, to Harold and Kathryn Barber. Betty attended Troy Business College in Troy, NY, and Georgia Teacher’s College in Statesboro, GA.
In February of 1944, Betty enlisted in the Navy WAVES and served in the 6th Naval District Intelligence Office at both NAS, Jacksonville, FL. and Ft. Sumter, Charleston, SC.
After the war ended, she settled in Reidsville, GA. and worked many years for Nelson Sales Company. Betty then transferred to Ft. Stewart, where she retired in 1979 from the Comptrollers Office. In 1969, she married Telford Elders. After the Elders both retired, they purchased a Winnebago Motor Home and joined the Winnebago International Traveler’s Club as charter members. From then on, their life was one of travel — all over North America, all of the United States, Canadian Provinces, and many Mexican states were visited. She was a past Co - President of Georgia Winnie Rebels, and the Bago Tribe. She organized the WIT Singer’s Club in Forest City, IA.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, joining in 1944, past Matron of the Rising Star Chap 384, (no longer in existence), and a present Emeritus member of Martha Washington #300, of Claxton, GA. In 1950, she joined the Reidsville United Methodist Church and its Chancel Choir. She was also a member of the Tommy Thomson Sunday school class and Wesleyan Service Guild. She was a charter member of Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, member of the VFW Auxiliary, a Pink Lady Volunteer of the Tattnall Community Hospital, a Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer. She was also a member of NARFE, GSC Botanical Garden Society, Red Hat Society, Tattnall County Historic Preservation Inc. and was a past president of the Reidsville Garden Club and a member of TEAM Reidsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband Telford and a son, Robert “Hal” Odum. She is survived by a daughter, D. Fleta Wood; son, T. Edwin Elders; grandchildren, Brittany Juarez, Sophia Schmidt, Solita Hayes, Telford Wood, Thomas Elders, and Teresa Elders - McCue; great - grandchildren, Haley, Kayla, Carlos, Stephen, Ashley, Regan, David, Layla, Esperanza, Rachel, Andrew, Katie and Alex; and one special niece, Dale Scott.
Memorial services will be conducted 4:00 p, m., Saturday, April 10, 2010, from the Reidsville United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow in the Reidsville City cemetery with honors rendered by the US Navy. The family will receive friends at the Church beginning at 3:00 p.m
Memorials may be given to: the Reidsville United Methodist Church Food Pantry or the General Memorial Fund or Community Hospice Foundation or Humane Society or SPCA.

Ricardo “Ricky” Esquivel Sr., 46

Ricardo “Ricky” Esquivel Sr., 46, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. The Texas native had lived in Glennville since 1985 and was employed with G & R Farms, Bland Farms and Four Corners Farms for many years. He was of the Catholic faith.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Noelia Esquivel; mother, Juana Navarro; and brother, Joel Esquivel.
Survivors include his children, Ricardo “Ricky” Esquivel Jr., Denise Esquivel and Natasha Esquivel, all of Glennville; father, Armando Esquivel of Glennville; brothers, Armando Esquivel Jr. of Glennville, Jamie Esquivel of Woodbridge, VA, Leo Esquivel of Weslaco, TX; sister, Dalia Ross of Glennville; and grandson, Kaiden Christenson of Glennville.
Funeral Services were held Friday, April 2, 2010, at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Alex Esquivel and Rev. Melvin Velev officiating. Burial followed in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers included Joel Esquivel Jr., Stephen Martinez, Sammy Martinez, Michael Burke, Ryan Christianson, and Jonathan Bland. Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Michael Noah Hill, 45

Mr. Michael Noah Hill, 45, of Glennville, GA, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born to the late Noah Hill and Irene Hill. Michael attended and graduated from Glennville High School class of 1983. He worked at the Glennville Hatchery for many years. He was employed at several different places, where he worked faithfully. Lastly, he was employed at Armstrong Cricket Farm before becoming ill. Michael had many friends. Michael enjoyed his life and his family. He loved his hats and his shades and was always neat as a pen and sharp as a tack. Mike never made enemies, but always made friends.
Michael leaves to cherish his memories two children, Michael Butler and Cassandra Butler; two grandchildren, Tanaya and Mianna Garcia; his mother, Irene Hill; five brothers and sisters - in - law, Noah and Lavern Hill Jr, Marvin and Michelle Hill, George and Rebecca Hill, Samuel and Gloria Nell Hill, Norman and Mercedes Hill; four sisters and two brothers - in - law, Rose and Isaac Moses, Jessie Mae and Terry Eason, Betty Ann Hill, and Viola Coleman, all of Glennville.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at New Fellowship Baptist Church. Burial followed in Old Halltown Cemetery.

Nikki Atta Hill, 34

Miss Nikki Atta Hill of Glennville passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville.
Nikki Hill was born November 22, 1976, in Reidsville, to Betty Hill and Otto Lewis. She attended STC pursuing a degree as a Medical Assistant. She loved life and people. She would always greet you with a big smile or a big laugh. She really loved her family and friends. Everyone who knew Nikki loved to see her smile.
Nikki leaves to cherish her memories; her mother, Betty Hill; her father, Otto Lewis, both of Glennville; three half - brothers and two sisters - in - law, Min. Patrick and Sheila Lewis, Reidsville, Derwin and Rita Lewis, Houston, TX, and Alexander Lewis, Lakeland, FL.; three half sisters, Shawnette Williams, Jersey City, NJ, Alexandria Lewis, Tampa, FL, and Nancy Tootle, Glennville; one living grandmother, Irene Hill; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins and a very special friend, Timothy Sanders.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at New Fellowship Baptist Church with burial following in Old Halltown Cemetery.

Harrison McNear, 81

Mr. Harrison McNear age 81 passed away Sunday April 4, 2010, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. The Reidsville native had lived in Savannah most of his life. He retired from Derest Baking Company.
He is survived by his son and daughter - in - law, Gregory and Maria McNear of Arlington, TX; daughter and son - in - law, Gweneth and Mike McCoy of Mountain Home, ID; two grandchildren, Michael and Lisa McCoy of Mountain Home; and four great - grandchildren, Katelyn, Joseph, Aspen and Brandon McCoy also survive
Graveside funeral services were conducted Wednesday from the Reidsville City cemetery with the Reverend Steve Miller.
