Norman Gary Gunter, 47

Norman Gary Gunter, 47 died Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at the Community Hospice House of Vidalia, after a long illness. He was a native of Florida but lived around the Glennville area for past 24 years. He was a Veteran of the US Army, a tractor trailer mechanic, a Nascar fan and loved to hunt and fish. He attended Reidsville Church of God and Little Rock Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Lee and Bertha Gunter.
He is survived by two brothers: Daryl Wayne Gunter of Glennville, Jerry Gunter of Lakeland, FL., two nieces April (Tray) Riner and Rachel Gunter both of Glennville and several great - nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, December 18, 2009, from the Glennville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with interment following at the Georgia Veterans Memorial cemetery with the Rev. William Prince officiating. Pallbearers were Waymond Gunter, Joe Mincey, Richard Butler, Dave Cruze, Justin Overhosler, and George Reed. A special thanks to the nurses and CNAs at Community Hospice House of Vidalia.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, 912 - 654 - 1402, served the Gunter family.

David Lloyd “D.L.” Rogers, 54

David Lloyd “D.L.” Rogers, 54, died Thursday, December 17, 2009, at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The Evans county native had lived in this area all of his life. He was employed in the construction industry as a roofer and with Kyle Durrence Farms for many years.
He is survived by his children, Carrie Long (Nicholas) of Reidsville and David Lloyd Rogers Jr. of Glennville; sisters, Iris Patsy DeLoach and a special niece, Tammy DeLoach of Glennville, June Rogers of Hinesville and Carol Ann Anderson (Gary) of Reidsville; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were private.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Miguel Angel Sassano, 49

Miguel Angel Sassano, 49, of Metter died Friday, December 18, 2009, at Medical College of Georgia. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and had lived in Metter for four years, moving here from Pennsylvania. He was a handyman, working on small engines, and could fix most anything. Miguel was devoted to his parents and was a loving brother. He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his parents, Jose and Magdelena Sassano of Metter; a brother, Edward Sassano of Bethlehem, GA; a sister, Rose Sassano of Oviedo, FL; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec, 21, 2009, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Elder Ron Yeakle officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Park cemetery in Lake Mary, FL.

Monaree Schiek, 70

Mrs. Monaree Schiek, 70, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, December 22, 2009, with her family by her side. She was a school bus driver for 18 years in Palm Beach County, Florida. She was an avid fisherwoman who treasured her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Gary Schiek; four daughters, Kim and Sam Sauls, Wendy and Craig Davis, Cindy and Bruce Noel and Linda and Jay Holder; five grandchildren, Jason and Melanie, Billy and Lacy, Brian, Crystal and Amanda; five great - grandchildren; Kanin, Landen, Logan, Eddy and Jacie; stepmother, Becky Atwood; sisters, Grace Blakeney, Betty Boyette, Shirley and Dean Garrett; step - sister, Lisa Atwood; along with many other family members and friends. She will be deeply missed by all.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 24, 2009, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, with Rev. Bill Eller officiating. Burial will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Mary Mock Wagoner, 80

Ms. Mary Mock Wagoner age 80, who was born July 29, 1929, passed away Wednesday December 16, 2009, at her residence under the care of her family and hospice. The Valdosta native had lived in Cobbtown most of her life, prior to moving to Tarpon Springs, FL, two years ago. She was a secretary, retiring from 3m National and was a member of Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Virginia Mock; her husband, Frank Wagoner and a son, John E. Wagoner.
She is survived by two daughters and son in law, Carol Cunningham of Tampa, and Patricia and John Carrier of Tarpon Springs; son and daughter in law, Hayes and Janet Register of Cobbtown; brother, Charles Mock of Valdosta; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 19, by Rev. Terry Lynn, from the Little Flock Church Cemetery.

Byron Allen Avant, 55

Byron Allen Avant, 55, died on December 9, 2009, at Toombs Nursing Home in Lyons. The Fulton County native moved to this area from Atlanta. He was employed as a machinist in the textile industry and loved to play baseball, watch wrestling and play video games with his son.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vera and Byron Avant.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Ann Baker Avant of Glennville; children, Christopher Avant and Jennifer Avant, both of Glennville; sister, Veronica Roberts of Glennville; father - in - law and mother - in - law, Jerrel and Bobby Baker of Glennville; brother - in - law, Bryan Baker (Anita) of Glennville; sisters - in - law, Melinda Hodges (Randy) of Claxton and Lisa Gulbrandson of Glennville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were private.

Elzie Morgan Bacon, 58

Mr. Elzie Morgan Bacon was born on August 10, 1951, to the late Rufus Bacon and Beatrice Bacon in Manassas, GA. He was the eleventh child of fourteen siblings, six who preceded him in death; Postell Boyd, Robert Bacon, Clarence Bacon, Donnie Bacon, Herman Bacon and Ida Mae Bryant.
Elzie was educated at Tattnall County Industrial High School, where he graduated in 1970. He worked most of his life in construction and was very passionate and committed to his profession.
On July 30, 2007, Elzie married his long time love of twenty eight years, Wilma Jean Richardson. She was indeed his soul mate.
Elzie heard the call of Jesus to come and get rest. He quietly departed this life Monday, December 7, 2009. One son, Nicholas Foster, preceded him in death.
He leaves many loved ones to cherish his memory, including his loving wife, Wima Jean Richardson - Bacon of Glennville, GA; two sons, Edmond Jermaine, Sr. and Kena Richardson, of Ellenwood, GA and Ryan Richardson of Glennville, GA; one grandson, Edmond Jermaine Richardson, II, of Ellenwood, GA; four sisters, Marie Washington of Hayward, CA, Johnnie Keels of Manteca, CA, Julia Bacon of Glennville, GA and Joan and Mikell Foster of Reidsville, GA; four brothers, Lester and Peggy Bacon and Bishop Bennie and Martha Bacon of Glennville, GA, Alonzo and Ann Bacon of Atlanta, GA, George and Margaret Bacon, Sr., of Savannah, GA; five sisters - in - law, Lois Mae Bacon of Reidsville, GA, Dorothy R. and Barney Berry, Clara Cross, Rose Mary Smith, Takena Aaron Meuleman, all of Glennville, GA; five brothers - in - law, Wilbert Richardson, Jr., of Hinesville, GA, Thomas and Velvet Richardson of Jacksonville, FL, Alfonzo Williams, Levi and Linda Richardson, Dennis and Loretta Stewart, all of Glennville, GA and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. James AME Church in Glennville, GA, with Rev. Gregory Lordnum officiating. Interment followed in Greater Zachariah Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Cleveland Mincey, Richard Golden, Otto Lewis, Roy Summersett, Freddie Hicks and Ananias Thomas. The nephews served as Honorary Pallbearers.
King and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Arnold Victor Gutierrez, 83

Arnold Victor Gutierrez, age 83, of Ward, AR, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009. He grew up in an Army Air Corps family and proudly served his country during WWII. He was an avid hunter and sportsman and devoted many years to coaching high school football in Southern Georgia. Preceding him in death were his parents, Arnoldo and Victoria Gutierrez; sister, Romalda and daughter, Victoria.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Kathie Gutierrez; sons, William and Michael; daughters, Valorie and Linda; two granddaughters, Aleia Gutierrez and Keevy Gutierrez; brother, Michael Gutierrez of Glennville, GA and Lenora Sullivan of Live Oak, Florida.
Graveside services will be held Friday, December 18, at 10 a.m., at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, in Beebe, AR.
Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, AR, is in charge of the arrangements.

James Marvin “Buddy” Meeks, 56

James Marvin “Buddy” Meeks, age 56, passed away Monday December 14, 2009, at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins all of his life. He was a self employed carpenter and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local Union 256. He was an avid horseman and a member of the Rocky Creek Saddle Club. He was preceded in death by his father, James Meeks and his special Aunt Pud.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Martha Green Meeks of Collins; two sons and daughters in law, Wesley and Amy Meeks of Collins and Brandon and Robin Meeks of Reidsville; daughter, Treasure Meeks and fiance’ Rodney “Frog” Boutwell of Collins; mother, Christine Collins of Cobbtown; sisters, Ellen Meeks of California, Dale Green of Cobbtown, Linda Meeks and Sheryl Meeks both of Collins, and Helen Meeks of West Palm Beach, FL, special “brother”, Jimmy Cowart of Collins; brother, Tommy Meeks of West Palm Beach, FL; four granddaughters, Kayla, Dixie, Karsyn Meeks and Summer Boutwell and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2009, from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Brother Robert Powell officiating. Interment will follow in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of the Rocky Creek Saddle Club.

Clifford Nail, 87

Clifford Nail, 87, of Cobbtown died Monday, December 14, 2009, at Community Hospice in Vidalia. The Tattnall County native and son of Johnnie Preston and Annie T. Nail moved back to Cobbtown in 2006 from Riverview, FL. He was a Navy veteran and retired as a parts clerk salesman with Caterpillar Tractors. Mr. Nail was a member of the Cobbtown Baptist Church and loved fishing, hunting and baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce P. Nail of Cobbtown; two sons and daughters - in - law, Raymond Wayne and Debra C. Nail of Dover, FL, and David Allan and Julie A. Nail of Valrico, FL; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Nail were held Wednesday, December 16 at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel with Rev. Carl Ledbetter officiating. Burial followed in the Sunlight Cemetery. Pallbearers were Keith Harvey, Kenneth Harvey, Buddy Nail, Lamar Nail, Michael Nail and Kenny Harvey.
Remembrances may be made to the Cobbtown Baptist Church, POB 176, Cobbtown, GA 30420 or Community Hospice, 904 Mt. Vernon Rd, Suite 2, Vidalia, GA 30474.
