Mary Helen Ruis, 77
Mary Helen Ruis, age 77, passed away Friday October 2, 2009, at Memorial Health University Center in Savannah. The College Park native had lived in Reidsville for the past 25 years. She was the founder of the Home Cooking Cloggers and the Cotton Picking Cloggers. She owned and operated Helen’s Daycare and loved gospel music. She attended Come As You Are Ministries. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orbie “Buzz” Ruis; son, Glenn Crout and a brother, Hardwick Johnson.
Ms. Ruis is survived by her daughter, Virginia Anne Chapman of Jacksonville, FL, grandchildren, Ruth, Rebecca and Rachel Chapman all of Jacksonville, Doug (Melissa) Molina of Jacksonville; great grandchild, Jacob Molina; special friends, Pat Sutton and Darla Smith both of Reidsville and special godchild, Dallas Smith of Reidsville.
Funeral Services were conducted Monday afternoon, October 5, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment followed on Tuesday at the Corinth Christian Church cemetery in Loganville, GA.

Johnnie Will “Aunt Bill” Stanley, 90
Miss Johnnie Will “Aunt Bill” Stanley, age 90, passed away Monday afternoon, October 5, 2009, at the Community Hospice Inpatient Center in Vidalia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Savannah many years, living in Reidsville seven years before moving to Vidalia twenty years ago. She was retired from Sears in Savannah and was of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by: her nieces and nephews, Kenneth Stanley of Gray, GA, Carolyn (Harry) Bruffey of Wilmington, NC, Zane (Lynda) Phillips of Harvest, AL, Emmalyn (Cliff) Wilson of Lake Jackson, TX, Virginia Mosley of Savannah, Rabun (Janice) Phillips of Reidsville, Linda (George) Warner of Austin, TX, Jan (Robert) Edwards of Dublin; numerous great and great great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the residents and staff of Summer’s Landing where she was a resident for many years.
Funeral Services were held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, October 7 from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home in Reidsville with the Rev. David Blalock officiating. Interment followed in the Lyons City Cemetery.

Kitty Wilson Wallace, 85
Kitty Wilson Wallace, 85, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009, at Liberty County Medical Center. The Tattnall County native had lived at Shellman Bluff in McIntosh County for many years, before moving to Long County in 2002. She was a homemaker and a member of Eulonia Church of God. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Wallace.
She is survived by her daughter, Frankie Moody of Ludowici; sisters, Willie Bell Joseph and Letha Ann Stanfield both of Glennville and Dora Lee Moody of Ludowici; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, six great - great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 6, 2009, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend Danny Stillwell officiating. Burial followed in Deverger - Wallace cemetery at Shellman Bluff in McIntosh County.
Pallbearers were Michael Moser, Jamie Thompson, Joseph Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Christopher Thompson, David Moody and Glen Walters.

W.J. Akins, 93
Mr. W.J. Akins, age 93, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2009, at his residence. Willie Jasper was born on February 12, 1916, to the late Aulie E. and Polly Tucker Akins in Evans County. He and his wife, the late Janie Brewton Akins, lived in the Evergreen Community and were members of Evergreen Baptist Church. They moved to the Hillview Community and were members of Rogers Chapel. In 1952, they moved to a farm near Reidsville and moved their membership to Reidsville Baptist Church. Mr. Akins was the oldest member of the Reidsville Baptist Church and also served as a Deacon.
Mr. Akins, a retired farmer, worked as a custodian for Roydon Wear and the Tattnall County School System. He retired from the school system in 1995 with ten years of service. He is preceded in death in addition to his parents and wife; a sister, Joyce Self; daughters - in - law, Wander Harter Akins and Laverne Wilson Akins; grandchildren, Fred Jasper Akins, Franklin Louis Akins and Frances Louise Akins; grandson - in - law, Bob Johnson; great grandson, Noah William Hill.
He is survived by four sons and daughters - in - law, Fred Akins of Corpus Christi, TX, Frank and Vivian Akins of Ocoee, FL, Bennie and Dee Dee Akins and Donald and Linda Akins all of Collins, daughter and son - in - law, Betty Joyce and Billy Hill of Nashville, GA, sister, Loree Sapp of Claxton, two brothers and sisters - in - law, Louis and Elise Brown of Claxton, Aubrey “Tobe” and Martha Brown of Ellabell; 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, three great - great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2009, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2009, from the Reidsville Baptist Church with the Reverend Steve Miller officiating. Tiny Jewell Cannady Boyett, 91
Mrs. Tiny Jewell Cannady Boyett, 91, of the Central Community near Metter passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009, at Candler County Hospital. The Candler County native and lifelong resident was the daughter of the late R. M. Cannady, Sr. and the late Lexie D. Cannady. On August 16, 1937, after winning a beauty pageant at Central School, she married
her love, Kermit Boyett. In her early years, she was a hairdresser but was a homemaker for most of her life. She was a member of the Central Home Demonstration Club and the oldest member of the Primitive Grove Primitive Baptist Church.
Mrs. Boyett loved watching the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs. She enjoyed being a farmer’s wife, working in her yards and garden. In their later years, you would always see Mr. Kermit, Mrs. Tiny and their bulldog, Joe, riding the countryside. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Boyett; brothers and a sister, Julius Cannady, Luneta McCoullough, Clinton Cannady, and R.M. “Shorty” Cannady Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Patty B. Karr of Metter; two sons and daughters - in - law, Kenny and Gerri Boyett of Waycross and Keith and Elise Boyett of Statesboro; a brother, Delmo Cannady of Pooler; six grandchildren, Krystal and Joey Boyett, Andre Goggins and Sheba G. Gordon; Candice and Candler Boyett; eight great grandchildren and two great - great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, September 27 at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Elder Richard Davis and Elder Lindy Webb officiating. Burial followed in the Primitive Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wiley Durden Jr., Sunny Youmans, Tommy Holland, Stevie Cannady, Louis Holland and Timmy Holloway. Juan H. Contreras, 86
Mr. Juan H. Contreras, age 86, passed away Wednesday evening at his residence under the care of his family and Serenity Hospice. The Texas native had lived in Indiana many years, prior to moving to Reidsville 19 years ago. He had previously worked for Bland Farms and Bell Farms. He enjoyed designing belts and was always willing to help others. He was of the Catholic faith and was preceded in death by his wife, Guadalupe Guajardo.
He is survived by his companion of 19 years Leonor Rangel of Reidsville; four daughters, Emma Lewis, Rosie Gatchel, Becky and Juanita Bension all of Indiana; two sons, Bonifacia Contreras of Indiana, and Jerrardo Contreras of Reidsville; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, September 26, 2009, from the Chapel of the funeral home with Father Angel officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Dennis Davis, 51
Mr. Dennis Davis, 51 of Chicago, IL, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2009. He was a native of Tattnall County and attended the public schools in the county. He attended Mt. Zion #1 Baptist Church in the Tyson community.
He was born in Savannah, GA, on December 5, 1957, to Ms. Mary Ann Davis and step - father Jerry Calhoun of Reidsville, GA. He was preceded in death by his mother Ms. Mary Ann Davis; grandparents, Mr. Henry and Mrs. Ruthie Mae Davis, and one son Tavorius Davis.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Katie Davis of Chicago, IL; and four children all of Chicago, IL; eight sisters, Shirley (Ruben) King Jr. and Linda (Dale) Thomas Sr., both of Glennville, GA, Lois Bacon, Jettie Calhoun, Shirl Manning, Sonnie Calhoun and Lillian Calhoun, all of Reidsville, and Maxine Fleming of Atlanta, GA; six brothers, Kenneth (Pamela) Davis of Sacramento, CA, Aubrey Davis, Terry (Cynthia) Calhoun of Reidsville, Gregory Davis of Macon, GA, Larry Calhoun of Folkston, GA, Kelvin Guest of Waycross, GA; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 3, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Center of Life – C.O.G. in Glennville, with burial in the Robert Chapel cemetery in Tyson.

William A. (Bill) Dreggors, 78
William A. (Bill) Dreggors, 78, passed away Friday, September 25, 2009, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area most of his life. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving for 20 years during the occupation of Japan and the Korean and Vietnam Era. He was a lifetime member of the Glennville VFW Post #8379. He retired from the FAA as an electronics technician at the Savannah Airport. He was a member of Bel Aire Baptist Church in Bossier City, LA.
He is survived by his wife, Novadean (Deanie) Patterson Dreggors of Glennville; son, Mike Dreggors (Lara) of Newnan; daughters, Sabrina Dutton (David) of Summerville, SC and Sheila Heath (Chip) of Wake Forest, NC; brothers, Racile Dreggors (Barbara) of Glennville and Larry Dreggors of Glennville; brother in law, Pat (Lilla) Patterson of Glennville; grandchildren, Trey Dutton (Ellen), Brittany Cauller (Matt), Ansley Heath, Tyson Dutton, Alex Heath, Carson Dreggors, Jordan Heath, Taylor Heath and Will Dreggors and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 28, 2009, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Brother Glen Patterson and Reverend James O. Young officiating. Burial followed in the Georgia Veterans Memorial cemetery with Military Honors.

Joseph Buford Knight, 82
Joseph Buford Knight, 82, passed away Friday, September 25, 2009, at Specialty Hospital of Jacksonville, FL. The Tattnall county native had lived in Jacksonville, Shelby, NC, and Glennville for many years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, retired from Georgia Department of Corrections at Georgia State Prison with the Rank of Major. He was a member of the American Veterans Association, Shelby North Carolina Moose Lodge and a member of the Glennville First Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Knight, and a son, David Jolly.
He is survived by his children, Brian Knight (Diane) of Glennville, Joey Knight of Vidalia, Becky Cowart of Ayden, NC and Anna Jane Knight of Alta, GA; brother, Harry Knight of Glennville; sister, Modena K. Collins (Reggie) of Statesboro; sister in law, June Knight of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Blair Knight, Jordan Knight, Jason Knight, Lauren Knight and Cassi Knight; great grandson, Jadan Knight, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 28, 2009, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Oscar Rowe Jr., officiating, and a eulogy by Barry Knight. Burial followed in the Glennville City cemetery with Military Honors.
