Eddie Dean Merritt, 52
Mr. Eddie Dean Merritt passed away Friday, September 4, 2009, at his residence in Collins. He was born on September 1, 1957, in Evans County to the late Charles and Maybell Merritt. He was a farmer and loved to work outdoors, especially lawn work. He was a member of the Reidsville Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ozzie Merritt.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Irene of Collins; one step - daughter, Lorene Goodson of Collins; two step - sons, Tome Merritt and Ozzie Merritt II, both of Hinesville; six sisters, Joyce Tatum of Collins, Cathy Merritt of Reidsville, Mary Busby of Daisy, Patsy Anderson of Reidsville, Esther Rushing of Brooklet and Janice Dennis of Atlanta; two brothers, Richard Merritt of Clearwater, FL, and Louis Merritt of Jesup; several step - grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and one special niece, Karin Bunch of Metter.
Pallbearers were Wade Bunch, Michael McCarty, Ozzie Merritt Jr., Neil Bunch, James McCarty and Little Tom Merritt. Honorary pallbearers were Little Wayne Merritt and Little Ray Driggers.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 7, 2009, with Bro. William Prince officiating. Interment followed in the Pineview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sharese Casteen, 48
Sharese Casteen, 48, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. She was a native of Evans County.
She was a member of Hagan Baptist Church and was pianist for 18 years. Sharese taught piano for a member of years and was a loving wife, mother and best friend. She was past president of the Christian Home Educators Association.
Survivors include her husband, Dirk Casteen of Claxton; two daughters and sons - in - law, Morgan and Dustin Hutto of Hazlehurst and Megan and Ben Helmuth of Claxton; two brothers and sisters - in - law, Joey and Bootsie Threatte of Claxton and Gregg and Jennifer Threatte of Claxton; two sisters and a brother - in - law, Selina and Tim Pewitt of N.J., Yolanda Threatte of Washington, D.C.; one grandson, Jonathan Hutto; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Friday August 28, at J. Mellie Nesmith Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Bay Branch primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Byron Lynn, 84
Byron Lynn, age 84, died Monday, August 31, 2009, at home under the care of hospice.
Byron was born in Reidsville, GA, and was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County. He graduated from Reidsville High School in 1943 and attended the University of Georgia. Byron completed 30 years in the postal service. After retirement, he returned to the family farm where he raised various crops and livestock.
He served in World War II as a tail gunner assigned to the 97th Bomb Wing of the 15th Air Force. He flew 50 missions over Europe on B - 17 Bombers.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Essie Lynn; wife, Carolyn Waters Lynn; sister, Jessie Kendrick; and brother, Frank Lynn.
Surviving are his son, Dr. Steve (Miriam) Lynn of Collins; granddaughter, Beth Lynn of Athens, GA; one sister - in - law Jackie (Wally) Lea of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 5 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Reidsville with the funeral services to follow with the Reverends David Hudson and Marc Foster officiating. Burial will be at the Little Flock Church Cemetery, Collins with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Greg Lynn, Ricky Lynn, Paul Davidson, Kim Lynn, Jerome Lynn, Barry Franklin.

Prentice Waters, 86
Prentice Waters, 86, passed away, Sunday, August 30, 2009, at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice and surrounded by his loving family. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area most of his life and was the oldest of 11 children. He was a World War II Veteran, retiring from the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of service. He was a Purple Heart Recipient and also received the Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Award. He was a member of Glennville VFW Post #8379 and the Retired Sergeant’s Association. He was a retired businessman, owning and operating Gooseneck Farm Equipment for many years, and was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley and Floy Thompson Waters and two brothers, Romie and Coolidge Waters.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Reba Kicklighter Waters of Glennville; children, John David and Mary Ann Waters, Michaellynn Waters, Rebecca and Kelly Bland, Paul Waters, all of Glennville; sisters, Wanda Phillips of Hinesville, Debra (Mickie) Waters of Savannah, Pat Brown of Savannah and Katha Driggers of Glennville; brothers, Von H. Waters and Beach Waters, both of Glennville; 11 grandchildren, seven great - grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 2, 2009, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Charles (Bucky) Strickland and Reverend Ramone Hernandez officiating. Burial followed in the Harmony United Methodist Church cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Steve R. Anderson, 63
Steve R. Anderson, 63, died peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2009, one day after his birthday, at his daughter’s residence under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville most of his life, working in poultry houses in the area. When his health started failing he moved in with his daughter and her family in Jesup. Steve served in the Navy from 1967 - 69, first serving on the USS Princeton and then transferred to the USS Tripoli. He also served three tours in Vietnam and was part of history when the USS Princeton rescued the Apollo 10 out of South Pacific waters on May 26, 1969. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren fishing, hunting and telling stories about his Navy days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Nadean Anderson; two brothers, Earl and Pat Anderson and two sisters, Gloria Jean and Sybil Grace Anderson.
He is survived by his daughters and sons - in - law, Renae and Gary Smith of Jesup and Felicia and Chuck Mohler of Richmond, IN; son and daughter - in - law, Matthew and Michelle Anderson of Richmond, IN; sisters, Helen Hughes of Reidsville and Connie (Bernice) Mitchell of Claxton; sister - in - law, Gwen Anderson of Reidsville; eight grandchildren, Dawn, Dani, Sarah, Jessi, Gary Jr., Alexandrea, Charles Jr. and Anthony and several nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Reidsville. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Reverend Larry Hightower and Reverend R.M. Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Melda Anderson Daughtry, 81
Melda Anderson Daughtry, 81, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Evans Memorial Hospital. After a long, hard fought battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Melda is now with a new body, walking and talking with the Lord. The Tattnall County native lived in Glennville before moving to Shell Point, Townsend, GA, in 1990. She was a 1963, 1965 and 1968 graduate of Georgia Southern College and retired from teaching in 1977. She was a school counselor in Tattnall and Evans Counties and was a charter member of Cornerstone Bible Church in Glennville. Her passion was studying and teaching the Bible, especially the Book of Revelation of Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Retired Teachers and Kappa Delta Pi, an honor society of education.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Daughtry of Eulonia; daughter, Leah Wilson of Jesup; sons and daughter - in - law, Craig and Pat Daughtry of Columbia, MD, and Philip Daughtry of Townsend; sister, Marjorie Thompson of Glennville; four grandsons, Bryan, Cavan, Aaron and Will Daughtry; two granddaughters, Allie and Wendy Daughtry.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 19, 2009, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Ferrell and Reverend Bobby Brinkley officiating. Burial followed in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brent Walker, John Durrence, Tommy Hilliard, Jimmy McCurdy, Billy Neal Parker and Dale Anderson.

Alfred Richard “Dick” Knop, 81
Alfred Richard “Dick” Knop, age 81, passed away Monday, October 19, 2009, at Candler Hospital in Savannah after a brief illness. Dick was born May 17, 1928, to Alfred and Adele Knop in Milwaukie, WI. He was a US Army Lieutenant, who served in the Korean Conflict. His career with Amoco Oil took him through many states during his 33 years with the company, up until his retirement in 1985. He moved to Claxton seven years ago and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Claxton. Mr. Knop is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Robert L. Knop.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Bobbie Thigpen Knop, of Claxton; sons, Richard C. Knop and his wife Karen, Cumming, GA, Peter J. Knop of Beaver Dam, WI, and Keith E. Knop of Tallahassee, FL; daughters, Katherine Stouthamer and her husband Jeff of Brookfield, WI, and Julie E. Knop of Roswell, GA; brothers, Carl R. Knop and his wife, Sandra of Waupaca, WI, and William Knop of Columbus, OH; and four grandchildren, one great grandson, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home of Reidsville.
Memorial Services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2009, from the First United Methodist Church of Claxton with the Rev. Wayne DeFore officiating. Inurnment will be private at the Georgia Veterans Memorial cemetery in Glennville.

Annette Manor, 51
Ms. Annette Manor, 51, of Glennville, GA, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2009, at the Memorial Health Center in Savannah, Georgia. She attended the public schools of Tattnall County and was a member the First African Baptist Church in Glennville, GA.
She is survived by her parents, Mr. Hubert and Mrs. Loretta Manor of Glennville; two brothers, Lewis and Luther Manor, both of Glennville; two sisters, Mrs. Carol Clarke and Mrs. Loann Anderson, both of Glennville, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 24, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the First African Baptist Church in Glennville, with burial in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 23, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 and the wake services will be from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Deweese Thomas Register, 93
Ms. Deweese Thomas Register, 93, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2009, at The Doctor’s Hospital of Tattnall. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville all of her life. She loved to dance, play bridge and so call “work at the bank”. She was a homemaker and member of the D.A.R., Daughters of Confederacy and the Reidsville Baptist Church. Ms. Register is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. E.B. Register; and son, E. Bert Register, Jr.
She is survived by: her two grandsons, E. Bert (Tana P.) Register III of Reidsville, Michael (Virginia) Register of Tampa, FL; three great grandchildren, Savannah and Mathew Register both of Tampa, and Emily Ann Register of Reidsville; sister, Ms. Elaine Clark of Reidsville; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 17 from the Reidsville Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
