Etta McCall Lewis, 95
Etta McCall Lewis, 95, of Tampa, FL, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009. She was born April 20, 1914, in Reidsville, GA, to S. Marcus and Holland Way McCall. She lived in Atlanta until moving to Tampa in 1974 to help care for her elderly mother.
In the 1930s, Etta was a familiar face at the Tattnall County Courthouse, where she worked for her father, who served as Clerk of Superior Court for 16 years. She had been a resident of University Village Nursing Center since 1988 and was preceded in death by her husband, Kim Lewis Sr.; her only child, R. Kim Lewis Jr.; her sisters, LaVerne McCall Davis and Cherrie McCall Hale; and her brothers, Bill and Hugh McCall.
She is survived by her brother, Larry (Alice) McCall of Tampa, FL, and numerous loving nieces and nephews. She often spoke of her many friends in Reidsville, of whom she had very fond memories.
Lottie M. Moody, 86
Lottie M. Moody, 86, went to her heavenly home, Friday, July 24, 2009, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville and Ludowici all of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, loved to fish, work in her garden and grow flowers. She was a member of Pigot Branch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Amanda Rewis; husband of 43 years, Garland Moody; three brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her daughter and son - in - law, Amanda Carol and John Groover of Ludowici; sister, Lois Moore of Macon; three grandsons, Cliff Moody, Andrew Groover, and Daniel Groover; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 27, 2009, at Pigot Branch Baptist Church, with Reverend Jimmy Bargeron and Reverend Bill Eller officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Charles Moody, Jimmy Bugaski, Robin Edwards, Steve Morris, Irbie Moody and Henry Strickland. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Long County Fire Department.

Levona Clark Phillips, 65
Levona Clark Phillips, age 65, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009, at the Toombs Health Care Center in Lyons under the care of United Hospice. The Mendes native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Abundant Faith Fellowship. She loved reading her Bible, working in her garden and watching the Braves. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Eleanor Durrence and her husband, Therman Phillips.
She is survived by her daughters, Michele Mitchell, Stephanie Brazell and Chrissy Anderson, all of Reidsville; sons, Henry and Tommy Clark, both of Reidsville; sisters, Shirley Rucker, Ann Ryals and Donna Jean Hendrix, all of Reidsville; brothers, Billy, Joe and Jerry Durrence, all of Reidsville; 19 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at 3 p.m., from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Brother Larry Spence officiating. Interment followed in the Stoney Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tracy Arnold, Jonathan Roberts, R.J. Arnold, Corey Kirkland, Travis Arnold and John Anderson.

Joyce Durrence Todd, 77
Joyce Durrence Todd, 77, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009, at home. The Tattnall County native and life long resident of Evans County was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was an exemplary homemaker. Her entire life was dedicated to her family and her church family. She loved to cook and enjoyed visiting with friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Todd, Jr. and her daughter, Jana Joy Todd.
She is survived by four sons and daughters - in - law Ronnie Joe (Paula) Todd, Reggie (Jana) Todd, Marty (Felicia) Todd and Joey (Dana) Todd, all of Claxton; eleven grandchildren, Hollie (Toby) Smith of Watkinsville, GA, Jeremy (Patti) Todd of Richmond Hill, GA, Nathan (Mandy) Todd of Claxton, Justin (Kelly) Todd of Pooler, Jan Todd, Brandi (Dan) Eason, Matthew Todd, Curt Todd, Stephen Todd, Drew Todd and Lana Todd, all of Claxton; seven great - grandchildren, Colby Todd, Hannah Smith, Emma Todd, Victoria Todd, Jackson Smith, Ethan Todd and Maci Eason; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 30, 2009, at 11 a.m., at Antioch Baptist Church, with Reverend Eric Rentz and Reverend Kenny Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Joe Todd, Reggie Todd, Marty Todd, Joey Todd, Jeremy Todd, Nathan Todd, Justin Todd and Matthew Todd. Honorary Pallbearers will be Curt Todd, Drew Todd, Stephen Todd, Toby Smith and Dan Eason.

Leonell Kitchens Waters “Mama Len”, 66
Leonell Kitchens Waters “Mama Len”, age 66, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday morning, July 26, 2009, at her residence under the care of her family and Pearls of Life Hospice. She was born in Savannah and had resided in Claxton for the last 33 years. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warnell and Jewell Kitchens and her husband, Robert Ray Waters.
She is survived by her loving family including, sons Brian (Allison) Waters of Savannah and Tony (Shari) Waters of Swainsboro; sister, Peggy (Harry) Hill of Charleston; brother, Karl Kitchens of Alabama; ten grandchildren, Misty, Tim, Chris, Josh, Matt, Luke, Scott, Brandon, Jordan and Shelby; great granddaughter, Hayden Elder; brother and sisters - in - law, James and Dot Waters of Claxton and Linda Waters of Savannah and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 28, 2009, from the Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Marty Walker officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery.

W.D. (Bill) Atwood, 97
W.D. (Bill) Atwood, 97, died Friday, July 17, 2009, at Ogeechee Area Hospice after an extended illness. Mr. Bill was a retired farmer, enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a member of the Sinkhole Hunting Club and always looked forward to shad season. Many will remember his walks to the store accompanied by his Labrador, Inky, to get the morning paper. He attended the Lake Church and Metter Primitive Baptist Church. He loved and took care of his family, including his parents, brothers and sisters. He was predeceased by his parents; Annie Vadie Hall and Benjamin Turner Atwood Sr.; also three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years; Versie Glisson Atwood of Metter; son and daughter - in - law, Denver and Stephanie Atwood; grandsons, Alex, Stephen and Turner Atwood, all of Birmingham, AL, and cousin, Clara Bowen of Statesboro.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., July 20, in the chapel of Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Lake Cemetery.

Don Dasher, 76
Mr. Don Dasher, age 76, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2009, at the South Lake Hospital in Clermont, FL. The Tattnall County native lived in Florida for the past thirty years. He was a retired master chief from the US Navy having served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Navy he taught drug awareness classes and also owned and operated Dasher’s Chem - Dry. He loved fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Yoko Dasher of Clermont; daughter, Brenda Dasher of Clermont; son, Donald Dasher of Kentucky; sister, Geraldine Miller of Reidsville; two grandchildren, Jessica Dasher of Clermont and Sarah Dasher of Kentucky; three nieces, one nephew and numerous cousins.
Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 23 from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Rome Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dorothy Harrelson Hodges, 46
Ms. Dorothy Harrelson Hodges, age 46, of Collins, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2009, at the Doctor’s Hospital of Tattnall. The Evans County native had lived in Collins most of her life. She was a homemaker and attended Full Gospel Tabernacle in Collins. She was preceded in death by her son, Lewis Hodges; parents, James and Irene Harrelson; brother, Billy Harrelson and a sister, Regina Harrelson.
She is survived by her daughter, Syble Hodges of Collins; a son, Jack Hodges of Collins; a sister, Tonia Fletcher of Collins; three brothers, Danny Weaver of Reidsville; Hugie Harrelson and Emory Bud Harrelson, both of Collins; a grandson, Jose Hodges of Collins; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted 3:00 p.m., Tuesday July 21, 2009, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kenny DeLoach, Kenny Gibson Jr., Jimmy Hodges, Pat Martin, Tony Hall, and Jerry Douglas.

Mary Elouise T. Mills, 74
Mary Elouise T. Mills, 74, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Community Hospice in Vidalia. The Toombs County native lived most of her life there, but spent some of her years in Tattnall County. She was a wonderful seamstress and homemaker. Her ministry was visiting the elderly and homebound friends. She was a member of East Gordon Baptist Church and the widow of Louis “Mountain” Mills.
Survivors are two daughters, June M. Lockley of Lyons and Flo Ella W. Fordham of Statesboro; a son, Jimmy Dean Mills of Lyons; three sisters, Mollie Cantrell of Lyons, Mattie Lou Smith of Conway, AR and Elizabeth Dubignon of Mayflower, AR; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Rev. Dane Glisson officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Zion cemetery in Toombs County.
