Mary Dixon Mangum, 93
Mary Dixon Mangum, 93, died Monday, December 29, 2008, at her residence in the Stoney Hill Community. She was born to Willie Kate Dixon and Camilla Mock Dixon on April 20, 1915, in their old farmhouse on Route #1 in Reidsville (now known as Stoney Hill Church Rd.) She married
Marcus Mangum and they had five children, Margerit, LaNell, Betty Jo, Shirley and Joel. The family lived in Jacksonville, Florida for many years and she remained there until the death of her husband, Marcus. At that time she returned to Reidsville where she remained until her death. She enjoyed working with her flowers, quilting, baking cakes and attended Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church. She lived a long and good life and was thankful for all those who helped her along the way as she got older, especially her niece, Peggy Woods and great - niece, Pam Brannen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus; daughters, Margerit (who died at birth) and Shirley; and son, Joel.
She is survived by daughters and sons - in - law, LaNell and Ernie Wade and Betty Jo and Bill Snell, all of Jacksonville, FL; eight grandchildren, 17 great - grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 31, 2008, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend Harris Nix officiating. Burial followed in Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Marie Moxley, 88
Mrs. Marie Moxley, age 88, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2008, at her residence under the care of her family and Southern Care Hospice. The Emanuel County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a homemaker and was a charter member of the Reidsville Prayer Band. She attended the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Reidsville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Pearl Peebles Scott; infant son, Allen Franklin Moxley; brother, Duffy Scott; and a sister, Gladys Sikes.
She is survived by: her son and daughter - in - law, David and Haydee Moxley of Reidsville; a granddaughter, Gloria and Bobby Rowland of Lyons; and three great - grandchildren, Jakob, Kaydee and Kristofer Rowland.
Pallbearers were Wendell Sikes, Talmadge Todd Sr., John B. Moore, Johnny King, Lang Dunham, and Tony Oliver. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Hill, Jessie Sharpe, Allen Sikes, Dr. A.L. Samson, Ronnie Rogers, Quinton Rush, Larry Spence, Bobby Collins, Russell Rae, and Reidsville Prayer Band.
Funeral Services were held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2008, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with the Reverends Robert Wigley and Sterling Bargeron officiating. Interment followed in the Little Flock Church Cemetery.

Mary Ann Mosley Ray, 64
Mary Ann Mosley Ray, 64, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2008. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area most of her life. She retired in 1998 from Georgia State Prison and was a housewife. She was a member of Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby Ray, of Reidsville; children, William “Billy” Roy Pearson Jr. (Barbara) of Waycross, Dean and Rhonda Pearson of Reidsville, Russell and Wendy Pearson of Glennville, Bobby Carl Ray Jr. and Darrell Ray, both of Blue Ridge, VA and Barbara Ray Brazel (David) of Reidsville; mother, Loree Mosley of Mendes; sisters, Gail (Sammy) Hendrix of Glennville and Delta Prudence of Glennville; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 27, 2008, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville, with Reverend Harris Nix and Reverend Wilford Harden officiating. Burial followed in Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Linda Joy Taylor, 47
Linda Joy Taylor, 47, passed away Monday, December 22, 2008, at her home in Belleair Bluff, FL. Linda was preceded in death by a sister, Desiree Taylor, grandparents, Carl and Eula Mae Kennedy of Glennville and several aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her parents, Gene and Carolyn Taylor of Largo, FL; sisters, Terry Taylor of Belleair Bluff, FL and Carol (Keith) Wilks of Lexington, SC; brother, Kerry Taylor of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; nieces, Jessica and Taylor Wilks; nephew, Brandon Wilks and several aunts, uncles and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 27, 2008, at Harmony United Methodist Church, with Reverend Truett Leveritt officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with cousins serving as pallbearers.

Jerry Conner, 41
Jerry Conner, age 41, passed away Friday, April 3, 2009, at his residence. The Toombs County native had lived in Cedar Crossing most of his life, before moving to Wadley a year and half ago. He was a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenters Local 860 union.
He is survived by his wife of 22yrs, Tina Conner of Wadley; four sons, Edward Ashley Adams of Athens, Christopher Lee Conner, Mathew Harry Conner and Brian Jerry Conner, all of Wadley; sister, Janice Altman of Orange Park, FL; three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, April 7, 2009. 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Cedar Crossing Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mary Alice Collins Fields, 66
Mary Alice Collins Fields, 66, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Meadows Regional Hospital in Vidalia. The Candler County native had lived in Normantown for the past 32 years. She retired as a seamstress from Oxford Clothing Factory in Vidalia. Mary was a loving mother who raised her four daughters alone with the help of her parents. She enjoyed working in her yards and going “junkin’.” She was a member of the Cobbtown Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Rufus “Buck” Collins;brother - in - law, Mel Mock; step - daughters, Sandra Lynn Whitehead and Linda Fields; and a grandson, T. L. Whitehead.
She is survived by her husband Homer Fields of Normantown; four daughters and sons - in - law, Debbie and Lester Cartrette, Edith and Mike Williams all of Normantown, Sandy and Jay Dominey of Tallahassee, FL, Lynn and Derald Green of Cobbtown; her mother, Eva Mae Collins of Cobbtown; three brothers and sisters - in - law, Buddy and Melita Collins, Danny Ray and Debbie Collins and Larry Dean and B.J. Collins, all of Cobbtown; three sisters and a brother - in - law, Virginia and James Hart of Statesboro, Sue Collins of Cobbtown, and Willette Mock of Rocky Ford; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 8, at the Cobbtown Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Roberson officiating. Burial followed in the Sunlight Cemetery.

W. Oliver Granade, 83
W. Oliver Granade, 83, departed this life on April 6, 2009, at his residence at Brandon Wilde, Evans. He was the only son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Junius C. Granade and a native Augustan. He was the devoted husband of 53 years to the late Betty Smith Granade.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, with Pastor John Zimmermann and the Rev. John Pinson officiating. Mr. Granade will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Kent Plunkett, Cliff Miller, Dana Bowden, Ted Dannemiller, Ryan Lewis, Alan Lewis, Joshua Granade and Seth Granade will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be past members of Boy Scout Troop 45. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
He was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and Junior College of Augusta where he served as Cadet Lt. Colonel and won the Best Drilled Cadet and Marksmanship Awards. He was a talented dancer and served as a Social Dance Assistant for Mrs. Henri Price. He then graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.S. in Chemistry and Physics. He was proud to be a U.S. Army Veteran, having served as a First Lieutenant in the Infantry. He worked as a Chemist for E.I. DuPont in the Savannah River Laboratories. Following retirement, he worked for Georgia Power at the Hatch Plant. He additionally taught special needs children in the Tattnall County school system.
Mr. Granade enjoyed working with young people and served as a Sunday School teacher and Youth Counselor. He was a charter member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and a member of Reidsville United Methodist Church and Aldersgate United Methodist Church over the years. As a Bible scholar, he completed all levels of the Discipleship Program and served as an instructor. Mr. Granade initiated the Boy Scout program at Aldersgate UMC, serving as the leader of Pack 45, Troop 45 and Explorer Post Ship 45, the first Sea Scout Post in the Georgia - Carolina Council.
At the University of Georgia, Mr. Granade was the student leader of the University Swing Orchestra, pursuing what would be his lifelong passion for Big Band music. He was a devoted Georgia Football fan and attended games for many years with his family. He shared his love of music over the years by performing with his wife at various civic groups, singing in church choirs and leading the singing at the Brandon Wilde Vespers. A true Renaissance man, he included among his hobbies over the years: golf, bridge, camping, water skiing, gardening, photography, dancing, singing, carpentry, piano, reading, writing poetry and cross - stitch. He possessed a contagious sense of humor and believed in maintaining an active senior lifestyle.
He is survived by his loving children, June Granade, Jimmy Granade (Susan), both of Augusta, Bill Granade (Dianne) of Aiken, and Rebecca G. Lewis (Alan) of Atlanta. Beloved grandchildren are Joshua L. Granade (Jenifer), Seth A. Granade, Carolyn A. Granade, Ryan O. Lewis and Jennifer A. Granade. Mr. Granade had many very dear friends among the residents and staff of Brandon Wilde who greatly enriched his life during the last several years.

James Patrick Lewis, 42
James Patrick Lewis, 42, passed away April 1, 2009, at Emory University Hospital.
Born in Bulloch County, Patrick lived most of his life in Evans County. He was employed by Fulghum Fibers as a crane operator. He was a simple man who loved his children very much. He enjoyed his time riding motorcycles and four wheelers.
Patrick was preceded in death by his father, Karon Jenkins.
He is survived by three sons, James Ashton Lewis of Collins, Scott Anthony Lewis of Bellville and Chance Hudson - Allen Lewis of Oak Park; his mother, Carolyn Lewis Reese of Claxton; one brother and sister - in - law, Andy and Christine Jenkins of Collins; a sister, Regina Schielie of Statesboro; one grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at Anderson Church Cemetery.

Mary E. Purvis, 71
Mrs. Mary E. Purvis, age 71, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Memorial Health Medical University Center in Savannah. The Kentucky native had lived in Glennville for 15 years, prior to moving to Reidsville a year ago. She had previously worked at North Springs Assisted Living in Claxton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Purvis.
She is survived by four daughters and sons - in - law, Pamela and Kenneth Thurston of Lakeland, FL, Patty and Randy NeSmith of Sylvania, Penny and Eddie Holland of Reidsville, Glenda and Scott Stripling of Glennville; three sons and daughters - in - law, Chuck and Deborah Purvis of Statesboro, James and Rhonda Purvis of Lakeland, FL, and Donnie and Terri Purvis of Sylvania; an adopted son, Jimmy Shaw of Lakeland; five sisters, Brenda Yazell of Cynthiana, KY, Helen Spencer and Naomi Tew, both of Indianapolis, IN, Anna Coleman of Cordova, TN, Margaret Fullmer of Paris, KY, four brothers, Bobby Johnson and Bill Johnson both of Paris, KY, Tommy Johnson of Winchester, KY, and Charles Johnson of Lexington, KY; 32 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Travis Kane Spivey, 32
Travis Kane Spivey, 32, a member of the Metter Presbyterian Church died Wednesday, April 1, 2009, after complications from surgery. The native of Metter was a 1994 graduate of Robert W. Groves High School in Savannah. He was a Licensed Embalmer and Funeral Director, having graduated from Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in 1997. He did his apprenticeship at Platt’s Funeral Home in Augusta and then in 1997 he and his father, George, opened Spivey Funeral Home in Metter. He was owner and operator of the Scrub Bus and had recently started working at Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen, where his father worked for many years. Travis loved to play golf with his son Alex and cuddle with his daughter Madison. His greatest love was spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Tamara Spivey; son, Alex Spivey; daughter, Madison Spivey, and his mom, Tina Shughrou Spivey, all of Metter
