Eldrid Sigler, age 79, of Panama City Beach, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at University of Michigan Hospital. Eldrid is survived by his wife, Rita; children: Judith Gapp, Donald (Diana) Sigler, Thomas (Rebecca) Sigler and Patrick (Paula) Sigler; five grandchildren; brother, Edsel Sigler; and sister, Donna Mayotte. A memorial service was held Saturday, April 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Charle's in Newport, Mich. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.

SYLVIA MERGENTHAL TIDWELL
Sylvia Mergenthal Tidwell of Tallahassee passed away Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Shands Hospital, in Gainesville. She was 61 years of age and born in Camilla, Ga. Sylvia was a resident of Panama City from 1961 until 1976, after which she moved to Albany, Ga. Her first husband, Paul W. Mergenthal, who died in 1974, preceded her in death. Her second husband, Frank E. Tidwell, also preceded her in death in 1993. She is survived by three sons: Paul Mergenthal of Panama City Beach, Michael Mergenthal of Panama City, David Mergenthal of Albany, Ga. and one step-son, Michael Tidwell of Phoenix City, Ala.; two granddaughters, Christina Mergenthal of Miami, Fla. and Georgia Mergenthal of Panama City Beach. Survivors also include two sisters, Geneva Griffen of Albany Ga., Mamie Sue Douglas of Lake Wales, Fla. and a brother, Frank Irvin of Tampa. Two sisters, Ludie Ann Dixon and Martha Fay Sinderson, also preceded her in death. Sylvia was employed by the State of Florida Department of Health, Division of Environmental Health. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 4, 11 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Highway 231. Sylvia will be remembered at the regular scheduled Mass at St. Dominic's Catholic Church Friday at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Sara Myrtis Carpenter Baxley, 69, of Youngstown, Fla., died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Bay Crest Nursing Center following a lenghty illness. Born in Louisville, Ala., she lived in Bay County from 1956 to 1960 and made this her permanent home in 1968. She was a devoted wife, loving mother of five and an active member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Baxley is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Howard J. Baxley Sr.; one sister, Lessie Smith; three brothers: Wesley Carpenter, Foy Carpenter and Luther Carpenter. She is survived by two daughters, Maxine Simmons and husband Ken of Buckhead, Ga., Vickey Key and husband Mike of Panama City; three sons: Buddy Baxley and wife Brenda of Youngstown, Mike Baxley and wife Sherry of Holt, Fla., Rickey Baxley and wife Lisa of Lynn Haven; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; four sisters: Melmer Grubbs, Christian Phelps, Cupie Abbott and Gertrude Hatzog; three brothers: Shorty Carpenter, Bill Carpenter and Winford Carpenter; a loving sister-in-law, Madeline Martin and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 4, at 2 p.m. in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Key officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Baxley's loving grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Paul Baxley, Jason Simmons, Matthew Baxley, Benjamen Baxley and her devoted sons-in-law, Ken Simmons and Mike Key. Karen Renee Buckley, 33, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 30, 2000, in Panama City Beach, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Survivors include her daughter, Candace Louise Dionne of Florida; mother, Jean Chitwood and husband, Kelley of Hitchcock, Texas ; father, Ronald Buckley and wife, Sharon of Alvin, Texas ; sisters, Lynda C. Mrs. Bonnie Sue Cooper, age 65, of 1304 Virginia Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla., died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at her home. She has been a resident of the area since 1970, coming here from Okinawa, Japan. Bonnie enjoyed motorcycle touring and was the President of the Sunshine Riders Motorcycle Club. She was also a member of the Family and Friends Support Group, First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven, and volunteered for the St. Andrew Bay Center, Bonnie is survived by her husband of 43 years, Howard Cooper of Lynn Haven; a daughter: Donna Nall of Pensacola; sons, Ed Cooper and his wife Michele of Raleigh, N.C., and Gene Cooper of Lynn Haven; six sisters; one brother; granddaughters: Jade Cooper of Lynn Haven, Kari Lea Cooper of Raleigh, and Gabriel Cooper of Fountain; and grandsons, Jarrett Cooper of Raleigh and Sha Cooper of Lynn Haven. Mrs. Clio Alvis Jones, age 82, died May 2, 2000, in DeFuniak Springs, Fla. Mrs. Jones was born March 31, 1918, the daughter of the late Arthur and Viola Adams Adkison, in Walton County, Fla., where she remained a lifelong resident. She was the owner and operator of Jones' Grocery Store for the past fifty-nine years. She was a Baptist by faith. She is preceded in by her grandson, Brian Sharp. Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Austin Ford Jones of DeFuniak; her son, Gene Austin Jones and his wife, Carolynn of DeFuniak Springs; her daughters, Pat Bottoms and her husband, John of DeFuniak and Tammy Henely and her husband, Tom of Panama City Beach and five grandchildren: Michelle Jones, Sam Jones, Emmitt Bottoms, Eric Henely and Adam Henely. Margaret Watkins Powell of 1917 West 10th St., Panama City, Fla., died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in her home. She was born Jan. 30, 1928, in Spartanburg, S.C., graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1944 and then moved to Panama City. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles H. Powell; three children: Tamis Gay and husband Barney of Panama City, Thomas Powell and wife Brenda of Dallas, Ga. and Teresa (Terri) Powell and friend Harold Crittenden of Kennesaw, Ga.; one step-grandchild, Joey Carter of Dallas, Ga.; one sister, Charmaine Black of Spartanburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Louie and Lib Watkins of Concord, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Kathleen Watkins of Conroe, Texas ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
