Darnella Whitfield Cooper born Nov. 28, 1921, in Plains, Ga., departed this life on Tuesday, January 11, 2000, at Bay Medical Center. She joined Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church in 1945, where she served the church in many capacities. For over 20 years, on the fourth Sunday of each month, she conducted a prison ministry at a local facility, to teach confined women about the love and forgiveness of Jesus the Christ. At her death she was serving as the chairperson of Stewardess Board No. 3. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Calvin Cooper Sr. Her life and legacy will be carried on by her seven children (five daughters and two sons): Ruth Brown, Jacksonville, Fla., Joyce Green (Elton), San Diego, Calif., Cardellya Moore, Gainesville, Fla., Blannie Mamie King, Panama City, Fla., Herbert Ray Brantly, Panama City, Fla., Peggy Brown (Neville), Panama City, Fla., Calvin Cooper Jr., Atlanta, Ga.; 29 grandchildren: LaShaye, Renard, Elton Jr., Chevon, Pamela, Jackie, Edward Jr., Norvell, Michelle, Alvin Jr., Tracey, LaTrina, Natasha, Sonya, Karen, Dorien, Tiffany, Misty, Bennie, Avis, Yolanda, Neville Jr., Jennifer, Latrice, Lisa, Olivia, Raymond, Ronella, Robert; 19 great-grandchildren; two godchildren, Lola Smith and Angela Smith; two nieces; three nephews; eight assumed children; and a very special friend, Mr. Joe Booker. She is also survived by a myriad of cousins and friends. The visitation will take place on Jan. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Providence FGME Church, 2100 East Fifth St. Flowers will be received today, Jan. 17, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m. at the Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church, 829 Hamilton Ave., Panama City, Fla. The Rev. O.C. Williams, officiating, and the Rev. LaTonya Floyd, pastor of Arnett Chapel A.M.E. Church, Quincy, Fla., will deliver the eulogy.

Ruby Grace Bryant Davis, 85, of Houston, Texas , died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in Houston. She had been a resident of Houston for the past five years, moving there from Panama City. She was a member of the St. Andrew United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Clifton Davis; and a son, Ronald Hayes Davis. She is survived by a son, Herbert Clifton Davis and his wife, Vicki of Katy, Texas ; two daughters, Linda Terry Long and her husband Don of Panama City Beach, Bettie Jean Jones and her husband Bob of Katy, Texas ; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Myrtie Lee Lowe Pierce, age 76, of 5118 Harvey St., Callaway, Fla., went on to be with our Lord on Jan. 15, 2000, at Bay Medical Center. She had been a resident of Bay County since 1939, moving here from Bristol, Fla. She was the owner of Pierces Trailer Rentals in Callaway, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Callaway, also a Charter member of the Parkway Lioness Club. She was preceded in death by her late husband, E.R. (Rab) Pierce Sr.; mother and Father, John Lowe and Willie Mae Lowe Strickland of Bristol, Fla.; four sisters and two brothers: Cora Lee Hill from Bristol, Fla., Gladys Dunn of Jacksonville, Fla., Rena May Birch of Tampa, Fla., Doris Holmes of Birmingham, Ala., Leon Lowe of Brooksville, Fla., and Sgt. Harvey Lowe of Eglin A.F.B., Fort Walton, Fla. Mrs. Pierce is survived by two children: her son, Ernest R. Pierce Jr.; and daughter, Peggy Dianne Pierce Lee and her husband Wayne Lee; daughter-in-law, Audrey Pierce; five grandchildren: Shannon Pierce Greve and husband Brandon, Ernest R. Miss Eloise Swearington, age 36, of 19803 Owen Wood Road, Fountain, Fla., passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2000. Miss Swearington had been a life-long resident of Bay County, and was of the Protestant faith. Martha Finch Toole, age 93, of Chipley, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in Gulf Coast Medical Center, Panama City, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husbands Broward Finch and Woodrow Toole; two sons, Patrick Finch and Junior Finch. Katie Lucille Martin Bowyer, 91, of 902 S. Depot St., Bonifay, passed away Jan. 15, 2000, at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley. She is survived by a son, Paul C. Mr. George Carlos Cook, 67, of 1008 Wyoming Ave., Lynn Haven, passed away Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, in a local hospital. Mr. Cook was a native of Bay County, attended local schools, and graduated from Bay High School in 1950. He was a member, deacon and treasurer of the Covenant Presbyterian Church. He joyfully served as business manager for the Covenant Presbyterian Church and School from Aug. 28, 1995, to present. He was superintendent of the Bay County water treatment plant and retired from the Bay County Utilities Department on Aug. 25, 1995, after more than 24 years of service. Mr. Cook is survived by his loving wife of more than 48 years, Carol Hayes Cook of Lynn Haven; two daughters: Elaine Carr and husband Tommy of Demopolis, Ala., and Julie Slatcoff and husband Peter of Niceville; two sons: George C. "Bubba" Cook Jr. and wife Sandra of Pensacola, and Tommy Cook and wife Susan of Panama City; a brother, Marvette "Mike" Cook and wife Betty of Baton Rouge, La.; two sisters: Betty Cook Price and husband Bob and Floy Anne Cook McKenzie and husband Bob, both of Panama City; six grandchildren: Jay and Kathryn Cook of Pensacola, Matthew and Erin Carr of Demopolis , Ala., Eric Peaden of Niceville, and Logan Cook of Panama City.
