Mrs. Martha Lee Melvin, 104, of Panama City, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 21, 1999 in a local nursing home. Born in Altha, Fla., she moved here in 1971 from Calhoun County, Fla. She was a housewife and Baptist by faith. Mrs. Melvin is preceded in death by her husband, John E. Melvin. She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Potts and husband Walter of Altha, Fla., Margie Skipper of Panama City; one son, James Edward Melvin and wife Mary of Ocala, Fla.; 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Dec. 23 at 10 a.m. in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Buford Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery
in Jackson County. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Wilmer Reeder, 66, of Panama City, Fla., died on Monday, Dec. 20, 1999 after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23, at Ward-Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. H. Fred Williams officiating. The burial will follow in Ashford City Cemetery
with Ward-Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m., this evening. Mr. Reeder was born on July 27, 1933 in Dale County, Ala. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Reeder is survived by his wife, Janis Reeder of Panama City; mother, Ethel Reeder of Graceville, Fla.; five sisters and brothers-in-law: Annie Reese and Sheldon Wade of Ocean Springs, Miss., Voncile and Bob Porterfield of Columbia, Ala., Barbara and Thomas Toole of Graceville, Fla., Judy and Randy Clark of Dothan, Ala., and Linda Gayle Williams of Webb, Ala.; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Carolyn Reeder of Greenville, S.C.; several nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be: Brian Parker, Thomas Toole, Buddy Toole, Chester Dingus Jr., Gene Rogers and Alex Foster. Mr. Ronald E. Stone, age 67, of 1325 Etheridge Ave., Panama City, Fla, died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999 at a local hospital. He has been a resident of the area since 1965, coming here from Michigan. Mr. Stone served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam era. He was a member of The Rock, a lifetime member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Association, and a life member of the Florida Juvenile Detention Association. Mr. Stone is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marjie Stone of Panama City, Fla.; daughter, Melody Joy Enns and her husband Gary of Aviano, Italy; a brother, Jack Swick and his wife Lupe of Findlay, Ohio; uncle and aunt, Paul and Kate Stone of Findlay, Ohio; cousins, Norma Routzon and Otto Stone, both of Findlay, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mable Norma Davenport, age 76, of 116 N. Swan Road, Panama City, Fla., died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999 at a local hospital. She has been a resident of the area since 1965, coming here from Japan where her husband was serving in the U.S. Air Force. Mrs. Davenport was a loving homemaker and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Clarence "Dave" Davenport of Panama City, Fla.; two sons, Richard K. Davenport and David B. Davenport, and special friend Georgianne Davis, all of Panama City, Fla.; a brother, William J. Mrs. Fannie S. Quarles, 90, died Dec. 22, 1999, at Gulf Pines Hospital after a short illness. She was a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., but had moved to Port St. Joe in 1938 with her late husband, William S. Quarles Sr. She owned and operated Fan's Flowers in Port St. Joe for more than 50 years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and was a beloved part of the community and local area. Survivors include her son, William S. Quarles Jr. and his wife Jacqueline K. Quarles; four grandchildren and their spouses: W.S. "Biff" Quarles III and Carol Quarles, Susan Quarles Harmon and Craig Harmon, all of Richmond, Va., Anne Quarles of Hillsboro, N.C., and Robert and Dawn Quarles of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren: Jessica, Molly and Logan Quarles, Caroline, Ezra and Grace Harmon, and Ashley Quarles. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. today, Dec. 23, at Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 24, at 10 a.m. in Holly Hill Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Allen Welborn and the Rev. Bill Taylor.
