WILLIAMS, Ruth A., age 86, of Lutz, passed away August 6, 2003. She is survived be her daughters, Mary Jean Rush, Cheryl Chadwick (Glenn) and Sandra West (Greg); son, Charles Williams (Denise); 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, George Williams. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 9 from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place in Indiana .

ALVAREZ, Louis Angel, 81, of Tampa, passed away August 7, 2003 in Tampa. Survivors include his wife, Maxine Alvarez; daughter, Marylou Vasquez; sister, Violet Alvarez; grandchildren, Mark, Michael and Michelle Vasquez, Jenny Eaver, Lynsay Cassidy and Lee Cooper and niece, Lisa Gibson.

COX, Peggy, 76, of Tampa, died Aug. 1, 2003. Born in California, she is survived by granddaughter, Holly Hall of St. Petersburg, and great-granddaughter, Chanel Hall of Tampa.

DEER, Irving, Ph.D., 78, of Temple Terrace, died Aug. 6, 2003. Born in Chicago, Illinois to Ethel and William Deer. He is survived by his wife, Harriet Deer and children, Daniel, Jonathan and wife Laurie, Joseph and wife Caitlin Larsen-Deer, and Helen and husband Mitchell Katz, as well as grandchildren, Monique, Janecka, Alicia, Alexander and Leonard. Dr. Deer was a pioneer in the study of Popular Culture and edited two of the first books on the subject. He was also President of the Popular Culture Association in the South. He was a distinguished scholar of the playwright, Henrik Ibsen, and a life-long member of the Ibsen Society. While he was Associate Dean of Liberal Arts for the College of Arts and Letters at the University of South Florida, he developed both the Mass Communication Department and the Religious Studies Department. He served on the faculty of the English Department for 27 years. The latter part of Dr. Deer's career was devoted to learning and teaching contemporary literary and cultural criticism. He was also a Professor at the University of California-Goleta, the University of North Dakota Ellendale, Pennsylvania State University-Lock Haven, and Dickinson Stat e University in North Dakota. Dr. Deer was a proud veteran of World War II were he earned the rank of Captain in the Army Air Corp and served as a meteorologist and air traffic controller in Europe. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Donations may be made to a named scholarship fund at the University of South Florida Foundation. Services will be held Monday, August 11, at 2 p.m. at C.E. Prevatt Funeral Home, 9750 56th St. N.

DOWNING, Alice G., 93, of Dunedin, passed away Aug. 6, 2003 at Edinborough Healthcare Center. Born in Atlanta, Ga., she moved to Florida in 1913. She was a member of Helen Terrace Baptist Church and a graduate of Plant High School and Tampa Business University 1930, Professor Carl A. Geisser's School of Music, Madam Scorille's Ballet Dance Academy and was co-owner of Pinellas Nursery & Landscape Co., Clearwater and Largo (1950-1970). Predeceased by her husband, Alonzo `Bill`, she is survived by special friends Donald and Joan Forbes of Clearwater and John and Helen Bauer of Dunedin. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Tampa.

A Memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at the Town & Country Baptist Church, 7601 Jackson Springs Rd., Tampa. Survivors include her parents, Barbara and Don Haines of Tampa; and a brother, Roger of Lake Zurich, Ill. JONES, James Wilson `Feller`, 60, a resident of Bradenton, passed away August 7, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Jones; and his loving family. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 11, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. from Hopewell Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

LANIER, William C., 87, of Palmdale, Florida passed away July 16, 2003. He served in the U.S. Army for 4 years, 8 months during World War II in the Pacific. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mollie Hendry Lanier; sons, James P. Lanier, wife Peggy and daughter, Cynthia Lanier; W.C. `Nubbin` Lanier, wife, Michelle and four sons; Bill Lanier, wife, Angie, Adam Lanier, Joshua Lanier and Matthew Lanier; son-in-law, Tommy Mann, daughters Julie Braddock and son, Tommy Braddock and Jennifer Hopper and husband Bryan. Mr. Lanier was preceded in death by a daughter Debbie Lanier Mann. Funeral services were July 19, 2003 at the Palmdale Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Dixon officiating. Interment was in Ortona Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Akin-Davis Funeral Home in LaBelle.

LATHROP, Patrick H., 69, of Ruskin, died Aug. 7, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Phoebe; sons, Edward and Gary; daughters, Sandra and Patricia; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Zipperer's Chapel. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003 11 a.m. at Ruskin Memorial Park.

LIMBEROPOULOS, Tula, 81, of Tampa, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003. Born in Gainesville, Fla. on May 1, 1922, she was the daughter of Mike and Mary Bliziotes, best known as the proprietor of Mike's Bookstore in Gainesville. She moved to Tampa in 1948. She is survived by her son, Chris Limberopoulos; daughter-in-law, Kathleen; three grandchildren, Stephen, Christen, and Lauren; and a brother, Leon Bliziotes. She was a member of St. John Greek Orthodox Church, Tampa. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9 at St. John Greek Orthodox Church, 2418 West Swann Avenue with entombment to follow at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Greek Studies, University of Florida, c/o Krista Cornell, 2021 West University Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32604.

MCNOLDY, Earl Daniel, 60, died August 7, 2003. Survived by sisters, Nancy Farhood and Sharon Kleinfelter; and a loving family. Services will be Aug. 9 at 4 p.m. at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens Cemetery.

MORRIS, William Ray, 60, a resident of Plant City, passed away August 7, 2003. He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Morris and Kim Woods; his mother, Rebecca Sue Smith and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 11, 2003 at 3 p.m. from Hopewell Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jay Poulson and Brother Robert Herrin. Interment will follow in Hopewell Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

PALORI, Vincent P., age 88, of Tampa, passed away August 7, 2003 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Judy Will and Sandy West; and is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary A. Palori; daughter, Joyce Peeples; son-in-law, Joe West; grandchildren, Laura Long, Michael Will and wife, Susan, Donna Stallings, Jimmy Peoples, and Jennifer Grant and husband Adam; great-grandchildren, Violet Long, Christopher Long, Joshua Murphy, twins Corey and Courtenay Stallings, and Bailey Zale; and his godchild, Ann McCormick and her sister Marion Mannix. Mr. Palori was born December 23, 1914 in Tampa. He was the only son of Nicholas and Annie (Cutro) Palori. He graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1935 where he was Captain of the football team and a star football player. Mr. Palori served with the US Army in Europe during World War II and was retired from the US Postal Service after 33 years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sons of Italy, La Nuova Sicilia Unita Lodge, #1251. Graveside Funeral Services will be held Monday morning at 11 o'clock at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. Everyone is to meet at Cemetery on Monday. Pallbearers include Jimmy Peeples, Michael Will, Christopher Long, Joe West, Vincent Palori and Richard Canzoneri. Honorary pallbearers will be his cousins, George Cannella, Eugene Cannella, Michael Gullo, Frank Albano, Joe and Nick Cutro. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to LifePath Hospice, Inc., 3010 W. Azeele St., Tampa, FL 33609 or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Heritage of the Heart Capital Campaign, P.O. Box 1524, Tampa, FL 33601, in memory of Mr. Palori. The family would like to thank the staff and employees of Mariner Health of Tampa and LifePath Hospice Silver Team for the wonderful loving care and support that was given to Vincent and our family. QUINLAN, Daniel Gordon, passed away August 7, 2003, in Tampa, Florida. He was 52. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; his daughter, Christina Joy Quinlan, and his son, Daniel Joseph Quinlan. The memorial services will be held at St. Mary's Church Chapel, 4311 West San Miguel Street Tampa, FL 33629 at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 10. He is also survived by a brother, Franklyn Quinlan of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; sister, Madelyn Roehl of Ada, Oklahoma; brother, John Quinlan of Bradenton, Florida; sister, Kathleen Baldwin of Myakka City, Florida; and a sister, Elizabeth Dussault of Bradenton, Florida. Dan was an avid Harley rider and was a black belt in the art of Yoshukai Karate. Donations may be made to LifePath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele Street, Tampa, FL 33609.

REILLY, Roger E., Jr., died August 7, 2003 in Lakeland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger E. Reilly, Sr. and Mary K. Reilly; and his beloved wife, Dorothy B. Reilly. He is survived by cousin, Jane Nichols (Jerry) of Valrico, Fla.; step sons, James (Lynn) Dawson of Gaithersburg, Md and Lawrence Dawson of Tampa; and sister-in-law, Evelyn McCoy of Tallahassee, Fla. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 11, 1920 and went to St. Thomas Academy and St. Thomas College. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as glider pilot. He moved to Tampa in 1969 and then to Lakeland in 1990. All those who knew Roger will remember him for his quick wit, hearty laugh, and generous spirit. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bartow, Fla. on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be at Whidden-Mclean Funeral Home in Bartow on Monday, August 11 from 6-8 p.m.

SCIME, Joseph R., 72, of Tampa, passed away August 6, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Elaine Scime; three sons, Mark S. Scime of Tampa, Todd G. Scime of Wesley Chapel, and Earl E. Scime of Morgantown, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Shawn, Christopher, Matthew, Robbie, Luke, and Ethan. Mr. Scime enjoyed the Bucs and football. He was gentle, humble, honest, compassionate, successful, and the greatest dad in the universe. Family and friends will gather on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private.

TORRENS, Marian Lois (Yanna), 79, of Tampa, passed away August 7, 2003. She is survived by her husband, Oscar Torrens; Clara Ann Stephens and her husband, Keith, Penny Stanton and her husband, Richard, Patricia Strauss, Edward Torrens and his wife, Mary Ann, Frank Torrens and his wife, Betty, Tara Torrens, and Jacqui Torrens; two sisters, Mildred Wooten and Beverly Pinion; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Torrens attended Southeastern College and worked as a Secretary for husband, Oscar at Henry's Lock and Key here in Tampa. She liked to embroider and to cross stitch. Family and friends will gather on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to LifePath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele St., Tampa, FL 33609, in her memory.

VILA, Nancy J., age 58, of Tampa, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2003. She is survived by her husband, Tony; one son, Tony W.; one daughter, Charlene Cottrell; parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Sampson; two brothers; four sisters; and four grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2003 at the funeral home chapel with interment in Florida National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to H. WHITE, Leon, Jr., 73, died Thursday, August 8, 2003. He is survived by a sister, Louise Beane of Pensacola, Fla.; several cousins including Bill White of Brandon, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 1995. Mr. White was a retired Field Auditor for the Internal Revenue Service, a member of Myrtle Lake Baptist Church, Land O' Lakes, Egypt Shrine, Pensacola, and was a Veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 11, at Myrtle Lake Baptist Church, 2017 Riegler Road, Land O'Lakes with interment to follow at Garden of Memories, Tampa. Friends are invited to gather from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, August 10, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 3207 West Bearss Avenue, Tampa. Flowers are welcomed, or memorial contributions may be made to an organization for Alzheimer's research.

BAKER, Carol Ann (Schumacher), lifelong Tampa Bay resident, passed away August 8, 2003. She is survived by her husband, Clyde Baker; daughter, Teresa Palacios; son, Curtis Baker; three sisters: Charlotte Moyer, Barbara Brewer, Frances Bedingfield and her husband, James; and five grandchildren. Mrs. Baker was the past President of BPW in Largo and enjoyed Art and Ceramics. Family and friends will gather Monday e vening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with interment to follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

BURGESS, Marguerite Lucille, 91, of Brandon, passed away Friday, August 8, 2003. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harland Burgess. Survivors include a daughter, E. Marleen Hatch and husband, John ; a sister Mrs. Vincent Leola Omlor ; grandson, John Hatch, IV and wife, Denise ; and two great-grandchildren, Branden and Brooke Hatch. She worked at WR Grace Company for 26 years as an Industrial Nurse. She served as a past President of United Methodist Women. A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church of Brandon. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the church. In lieu of flowers those who wish may contribute to the First United Methodist Children's Home in Marguerite's memory.
