LATULIPPE, Yvonne, 95, of Zephyrhills, died July 19, 2003 at East Pasco Medical Center. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, she moved to this area 30 years ago from Manchester, Conn. She had worked in a Cotton Mill and Woolen Mill in both Rhode Island and Connecticut. Mrs. Latulippe was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the St. Joseph Women's Club and a member of the Old Timers Band who has played for various functions including Sleepy Hollow Estates and Nursing Homes. A Memorial service will be held Thursday, July 24, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father John Hays officiating. She is survived by five children, Paul and wife, Katie Latulippe of Vernon, Conn., Maurice and wife, Pauline Latulippe of Tucson, Ariz., Marianne Lessard and husband, Robert Cyr of Palm Coast, Fla., Leonie DesRosiers of Pine Grove, Pa. and Norman and wife, Linda Latulippe of Manchester, Conn.; one brother, Norman Roy of Zephyrhills; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Latulippe was preceded in death by her husband, Aime Latulippe in January 1990; her sister-in-law, Lillian Roy in 1990; and her son-in-law, Raymond DesRosiers. MONIER, Basil M., 76, of Zephyrhills, was called home Saturday, July 19, 2003. He was born of French and British descent, December 21, 1926 in Ambala, India, to Archibald and Ruth (Manly) Monnier. He enjoyed people and traveled the world with his job as an administrator with the British Foreign Services which later became the US Foreign Services. After his 1984 retirement in India, he lived in Ireland and in 1992, made his home in Zephyrhills, Florida where he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include his caregivers, Ronald and Pamela Wright of Zephyrhills; godson, Patrick Rajmohan of Toronto, Ontario; dear friend, Anna Coey of Zephyrhills; niece, Michelle Jakeman of Worchestershire, England; and two nephews, Mario and wife, Marie Marini of Ireland, and Denzil and wife Leena O'Connell of New Delhi, India. RAY, Chester A. Jr., passed away Friday, July 18, 2003 at the James A. Haley V.A. Medical Center in Tampa, Florida. He was 83 years old. Born September 21, 1919 in Fitzgerald, Ga., at the age of two his family moved to Detroit, Mich. He graduated at Northwestern High School in Detroit. He worked for the City of Detroit until his retirement in 1978. He then moved to Tampa until the death of his wife, Doris P. Ray in 1991. Mr. Ray then moved to Zephyrhills and lived there until his death. Chester (Chet) was extremely proud of his military past and was 1st Lt. in the Army Air Corps where he flew B-24 Bombers. Being stationed in Italy he flew B-24's on numerous bombing missions over Romania, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Yugoslavia, and France. He belonged to the 766th Bomb Squadron and 461st Bomb Group. On mission #60, July 12, 1944 at Nimes, Marshaling Yard, France, of the six planes in his group, his was one of four that were shot down. He was rescued by the French underground. He had suffered severe burns over approximately 40% of his body. A French farmer and his wife took care of him and hid him in their basement, so the Germans would not find him. These people saved his life. He was deeply respected by all who knew him. He will be missed by a lot of family and friends for a long time to come. He is survived by three sons, Larry Ray from Macomb Township, Mich., Robert Ray from Bel Air Bluffs, Fla. and William Ray from Zephyrhills; daughters, Patricia Peters from Traverse City, Mich. and Joan Ray of Lutz, Fla.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. BLUMENFELD, Eli, 81, a prominent Tampa businessman and philanthropist died Sunday, July 20, 2003, after a long illness. Mr. Blumenfeld, a resident of Tampa for the past 35 years, was founder of Fabric King, a chain of fifty retail fabric stores in Tampa and throughout Florida. Born in Dortmund, Germany in 1922, Blumenfeld came to the US in 1938 at age 16, alone and penniless. In the 1960's, he opened his first Fabric King store in Tampa. Over the next 30 years, Mr. Blumenfeld expanded Fabric King to a chain of 50 stores throughout Tampa and the surrounding areas. He also established himself as a generous philanthropist, funding charities in Tampa and Israel, and serving as a major donor to the University of Jerusalem and the Boys Town of Jerusalem. Eli Blumenfeld is survived by his sister, Geraldine Rosen and Paul Rothman of New York, his nieces and nephews, Barrie Rosen and Alan Rosen, and numerous friends in the greater Tampa area.
