Howard C. Hodge Sr., 69, of Marianna died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Jackson Hospital.
He was a native of Marianna, a deacon of the Poplar Spring Missionary Baptist Church and a farmer by trade.
He is survived by his wife, France Bush Hodge of Marianna; a son, Howard Hodge Jr. (Carolyn) of Marianna; a step-son, Richard Bush, of Marianna; two sisters, Annie Mae Herring of Marianna and Bertha Brewington of Hope Hill, N.C.; a brother, Handy Hodge of Tacoma, Wash.; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at the Poplar Spring Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. F. Roulhac, W. Harvey, L.L. Brooks and R. Botler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will lie at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Mary Elizabeth Witherspoon, 83, a Marianna native died at home in Knoxville, Tenn. on Sunday, April 13.
She is the author of two published novels, Somebody Speak for Katy (1950), and The Morning Cool (1972). After graduating with a degree in drama from the University of North Carolina, she lived in Schenectady, New York, where she wrote a newspaper column and volunteered as a nurse's aide during wartime. She and her husband settled in Knoxville in 1947. In the 1950's and 60's she was an active member of Knoxville's interracial organization, Fellowship House, and in the early 1960's she helped found West Knoxville Friends Meeting. She received a Master's in history from the University of Tennessee in 1963 and taught in the 1960's at Knoxville College. She was a lover of nature, of music and of travel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Janie and Cecil Rhyne; her sister, Janie Rhyne, and her brothers, Jeff and Cecil Rhyne.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Witherspoon; her sons, John, David, and Bill; three grandchildren, Taryn Elsass, Marisa Witherspoon, and Noah Witherspoon; and sisters-in-law, Amy Lou Rhyne, Winifred Rhyne and Damaris Steele.
Burial was April 16. A memorial service will be held at West Knoxville Friends Meeting, 1517 Meetinghouse Road, on Saturday, May 3, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to American Friends Service Committee, 1501 Cherry Street, Philadelphia, Pa. 19102.
Sarah McElmurray Miles, 78, a retired secretary, of Tallahassee died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in Marianna.
A native of Beech Island, S.C., she moved to Tallahassee in 1955. She was a professional secretary in the private sector and with the State of Florida and ended her career with the Florida Baptist Children's Home of Tallahassee in 1986. She was a Mary Kay Cosmetics sales lady for more than 20 years. She and her family were charter members of Parkway Baptist Church, where she taught children's Sunday school for many years.
She was preceded in death by her son, Warren Miles in 1967 and her husband, Charles Miles in 1970.
She is survived by a son, David C. Miles and his wife, Cheryl B., of Tallahassee; a daughter, Alice Hermann and her husband, Dick, of Marianna; two brothers, Richard P. McElmurray of Charleston, S.C. and Robert Lee McElmurray of Beech Island, S.C.; four grandkids, Clark Hermann of Chatsworth, Ga., Michelle Yoder of Altha, and Parker Miles and Kelbe Miles, both of Tallahassee; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held today, Thursday, April 24, at 3 p.m. EDT at Parkway Baptist Church, 1410 East Indian Head Drive, Tallahassee. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery
on Piedmont Drive in Tallahassee.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until funeral time at the church.
Mary Ellen Price Jordan, 79, of Graceville died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at the Campbellton-Graceville Hospital following an extended illness.
She was born in Geneva County, Ala. on May 29,1923 to the late Joseph Benjamin and Stella Retherford Price. She was a homemaker and a member of Damascus Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy David Tindel.
She is survived by her loving husband, Harry Jordan Jr. of Graceville; daughter, Peggy Joyce Crawfis and husband, Larry, of Sarasota; brothers, Irby Price and wife, Annie, and Don Price and wife, Jackie; sister, Betty Price Register; sister-in-laws, Betty Joyce Price and Margaret Price all of Graceville; two grandchildren, Cynthia Marie Berghorn and husband, Jeffrey, of Bradenton; John K. Canfield of Sarasota; seven great-grandchildren, Amanda Berghorn, Lindsey Berghorn, Jennifer Berghorn, C.J. Berghorn, Alisha Canfield, Christina Canfield, Tyler Canfield; and host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, April 24, at Damascus Baptist Church with Revs. Chester Padgett and Marcus Caraway officiating. Betty Vaughn, 67, of Marianna died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.
She was a native of Climax, Ga. and has lived in Marianna for more than fourteen years. She was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Thomas Vaughn, of Marianna; one son Thomas Vaughn and his wife, Vicky, of Alexandria, Va.; one daughter, Teresa Vaughn, of Altha; one brother, Malcolm C. Brock, of Ft. Myers; three sisters, Audrey Van Deusen of Mt. Airy, Md., Gussie Hughes of Venice and Jerry Ann Foxworth of Marianna; and six grandchildren.

Lillian Skinner Livingston, 77, of Tallahassee died Monday, April 21, 2003, in Tallahassee.
She was a native of Marianna and had lived in Tallahassee for the last 51 years. She was a member of the Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Project. She was retired after 23 years from the Division of Drivers License and was a member of Tallahassee First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Duncan D. Livingston, of Tallahassee; a son, David Livingston Jr., of Tallahassee; daughters, Patricia Dengler and her husband, Frank, of Houston, Texas , Mary Ann Thorner and her husband, Wally, of Tallahassee, and Cynthia Livingston of Tallahassee; brothers, Leland Skinner of Knoxville, Tenn. and Glenn Skinner of Tallahassee; grandsons, Robert Livingston of Dayton, Nev., Kenneth Manni Jr. of Gulf Shores, Ala., Ian Livingston of Tallahassee and Noah Thorner of Tallahassee; granddaughters, Shanna Sodaro of Houston, Texas and Elizabeth Thorner of Tallahassee; great-granddaughter, Briana Sodaro of Houston, Texas ; and great-grandsons, Blake Sodaro of Houston, Texas and Hayden Livingston of Dayton, Nev.

George Grant Budd, 54, who lived on Slocomb Highway, Graceville, Florida, died at his residence on Saturday evening, April 19, 2003.
He had lived in Graceville since his retirement from the U.S. Air Force in 1987. He was also recently retired from the Florida Department of Corrections, where he was employed as a correctional officer.
He was a loving and giving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann Budd. He is survived by two daughters, Kathy S. C. Guinand of Graceville, and Tammie L. Matteri of Graceville; one son, Chris Clinton of Finley, N.D.; eight grandchildren, James Phipps of Graceville, Paul Phipps of Currie, N.C., JR Guinand of Graceville, George Guinand of Graceville, Angela Matteri of Graceville, Anthony Matteri of Graceville, Wade Clinton of Finley, N.D., and Nichole Clinton of Finely, N.D.; two brothers, William Budd of Cottondale and James Budd of Avon Park; and three sisters, Pat Conway of New Bern, N.C., Jeannette Massey of Bailey, Miss., and Sarah Fortner of Graceville.

Carlene Budd, 53, of rural Graceville, Florida, died at her residence on Saturday evening, April 19, 2003.

Mary Hill Steel, 59, of Tampa died Saturday, April 19, 2003 at Tampa General Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was a native of Jackson County but had lived in the Tampa area for a number of years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Allen and Vera Hill of Cypress, her mother Thelma Peacock Hill and a brother Raymond Hill.
She is survived by two daughters, Melissa Carter and Stephanie Gough of Tampa; five sisters, Lorine Cooper and husband, Bo of Pelion, S.C., Betty Morse and husband, Charles of Marianna, Mattie Braswell and Ann Chyc of Tallahassee, Johnnie Ruth Wester and husband, Wallace of Cypress, Gail Howell and husband, Roger of Sneads; two brothers, Dr. Eugene Hill and wife, Marcia of Auburn, Al, Roy Hill and wife, Gail of Cypress; and five grandchildren.
Memorialization will be by cremation.

Mary Ann (York) Cooper, 60, of Chipley died early on April 20, 2003 at her home.
She was born in Aurora, Ill. She lived in Bay and Washington counties for over 30 years. She enjoyed doing church work, had a great love for the Lord and a strong desire to work for Him.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Guddendorf; her mother, Catherine Tintinger Guddendorf; one brother, Frank Guddendorf Jr.; and one sister Lorrianne Herrington.
She is survived by her husband, George R. Cooper of Chipley; one son, Frank Edward Rasnic of Wewahitchka, and one daughter, Charlotte York Newell and her husband Jesse R. Newell of Southport. She has three grandchildren, Frank Edward Rasnic II and wife Amy of Springfield, Benjamin Keith Rasnic and wife Carla of Hiland Park, and Brandy Renetta Rasnic of Callaway. She is also survived by two brothers, John Guddendorf and wife Donna of Sugar Grove, Ill., William Guddendorf and wife Janice of Montgomery, Ill.; four sisters, Betty Glover of Aurora, Ill. Deloris Grimes of Aurora, Ill., Rosemary Poss and husband Jerry of Chattanooga, Tenn., and JoAnne Jensen and husband Charles of Portland, Ariz. She has seven step-children, George R. (Rocky) Cooper, Jr., Edwin Nicholson and Diane Howard all of Porter Pond, Jean Haller of Lakeland, Shirley Farlow and her husband Bill of Brandon, Leland York of Danville, Ill. and Leroy York of Kingman, Ind. She has three great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Kelley King, 71, of Marianna died Saturday, April 19, 2003 in Marianna.
She was born in Donalsonville, Ga., but lived most of her young life in Graceville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Murray King and son, James Murray King, Jr.
She is survived by a daughter Sandy Plant and husband Gary of Marianna; two grandsons Justin Plant and wife Asya and Chad Plant; and one brother, Buddy Ricks of Bradenton.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m., today, Tuesday, April 22, at the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery, Andalusia, Ala. with Reverend Tim Plant officiating.

Mary Helen Bell of Marianna died Friday, April 18, 2003, at her residence.
She was a native of Blakely, Ga. and has lived in Marianna since 1954. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marianna for almost 50 years, where she served as a deacon and an elder. She was the president of the women of the church and received an honorary life membership for Presbyterian women. She graduated Cum Laude at Jackson State Teacher's College in Jacksonville, Ala. She taught English at Marianna and Chattahoochee High Schools. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 10 years with Troop 142. She was appointed to the State Dental Board by Gov. Chiles in 1993. She was a member of the Marianna Junior Woman's Club and the Marianna Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Olin (W.O.) Bell Jr.
Survivors include two sons William O. She was a native of Americus, Ga. and has lived in Jackson County for more than 21 years, She was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith.
