HANKE, Glen T., Jr., 71, of Brandon, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2002. Glen moved to the area 29 years ago from Battle Creek, Michigan, and was a member of Apostles Lutheran Church. He worked for The Tampa Tribune and was past president of the Tampa Printing and Graphic Communications Union Local #180. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hanke of Brandon; son, Rick T. Hanke of Jackson, Tenn.; daughter, Lori Summers of Sarasota, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. He is predeceased by brother, Fredrick Hanke. POPPELL, Joseph C., Sr., 90, of Plant City, died October 24, 2002. He is survived by his sons, Joseph C. Poppell, Jr. and James Earl Poppell, both of Plant City; daughters, Rebecca Hutto of Plant City and Emily Williamson of Dover; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille W. Poppell; son, R. Tom Poppell; and his great-grandson, Sam Wills. Joe moved here as a child from Stark, Fla. where he was born. He worked for Artic Ice Company for 23 years, also in landscaping for Poppell's Greenhouse. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was instrumental in getting Little League to Plant City. DAY, Sidney S., was born on Tuesday , May 21, 1935 at 5:45 a.m., in St. Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Medford, Mass. He weighed 5lb. 5 oz. The family moved to Dover-Foxcroft, Maine in 1936 when Sid was one year old, and lived on Pine Street. His Dad owned Day's Turkey and Chicken Farm in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. A graduate of Foxcroft Academy, class of '54, he later married Janece L. Field, August 10, 1957 D-F, and went to Southern Maine Vocational Tech. Inst., where he graduated in 1960. Sid and Janece moved to Somersworth, N.H. in 1960 after his graduation from Southern Maine Vocational TechnicaI Institute in June 1960. They moved to Horace Mills Road, Sanford, Maine 1962, where he graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 1987. Sid was a license Maine Master Electrician in the State of Maine for 30 years; member of Yorkshire Lodge No. 179 AF & AM, North Berwick, Maine; Koro Shrine Temple of Lewiston Maine. Veteran of U.S. Air Force 1954 to 1958, in the 8th Air Force, 8th Reconnaissance Technical Squadron: AF#11262115; U.S. Army Reserve, one year; U.S. U.S. Air Force Reserve two years; Coast Guard Reserve four years. He worked for General Electric Co., Somersworth, N.H., from 1960 to 1980 in Facilities and Equipment Engineering, 1980 to 1995 as an electrician and air conditioner and refrigeration repairman; worked for Pratt and Whitney, North Berwick, Maine in Plant Engineering as a electrical supervisor until his retirement in 1995. He moved to Crystal Lake Community, Zephyrhills, Florida in June of 1995. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janece of 45 years; th eir son, Kenneth Robert Day of Herman Neb., and his wife Debbie; four grandsons, Brandon, Natthan, Timothy any Zachary; daughter, Kathleen Cyr and husband Christopher of Limerick, Maine; two grandchildren, Justin Cyr and Jenna Kathleen Cyr; one brother, Harry G. ANDERSON, L.M. `Billy`, Jr., born on October 27, 2002, passed away in his home on October 24, 2002, with his family by his side. He was in the fifth generation of one of Tampa, Florida's pioneer families. Billy is survived by his wife, Laura (Betty) McClain Anderson; his five children, Louis Markham III, Robert Bruce, Stuart McClain, Katharine Gray, and Elizabeth Anne; five grandchildren, Louis Markham Anderson IV, Terry Anderson Lucas, Troy Eugene Anderson, Lindsay McClain Anderson, and Paul Stuart Anderson; five great-grandchildren, Michael Wayne Lucas, Carly Jane Lucas, Wyatt Lee Lucas, Mary Elizabeth Anderson, and Louis Markham Anderson V; and many other cousins and friends. His great-great-grandfather, Josiah Gates, operated the Inn a Fort Brooke in 1839. After Congress passed the Armed Occupation Act, Gates moved South in 1842 and was the first Anglo-Saxon settler to establish a homestead and hotel on the Manatee River, where later, Manatee County organized in 1855. The 1933 book `Lures of Manatee` tells of his contributions to Florida's history. Born in Tampa, Billy was educated in grade school and graduated from the H.B. Plant High School in 1932. During his high school days, his Scout Master started a boxing team, and Billy became one of it's stars; fighting amateur fights every Friday night from many months. When he became a freshman at the University of Florida, he was selected as the boxing team's varsity weight representative. His record, from the time he started high school through his freshmen year at Florida, was Win-36, Lose-1, Draw-2. His father, L.M. A nderson, Sr., founded L.M. Anderson Dental Supply Company in 1906. Billy joined his father's company in 1933, and it became his lifetime endeavor. In 1948, Billy became President of the company and in 1960, following the death of his father, he became Chairman. During his leadership period, he expanded the company from five branches in Florida to 26 branches scattered through out nine states. When he sold the firm in 1974, it was the fourth largest dental supply company in the nation. Billy founded and merged two other dental supply companies and `officially` retired from the business world in 1980. His love for business, his family, and the dental profession, kept him active in his son Stuart's golf car dealerships; his daughter, Liz's Meeting Planning Company; and in advising the third generation serving dentistry; his daughter, Katharine, in her dental management consulting group; and his oldest sons, Mark and Robert, in their dental equipment sales careers. His love for dentistry and dentists, nurtured his life-long work, which to him was not a `job`, but also a labor of love. When his mentor, Dr. L.D. Pankey, implemented a whole new philosophy for practicing dentistry, Billy w as one of the co-founders of the L.D. Pankey Dental Foundation, Inc., 1969 and the Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education in Miami, Florida, 1971. For the past 31 years, Billy served as advisor to the Foundation's Board of Trustees and played a significant role in the development and advancement of the Pankey Institute, which was to become known as the world's premier, not for profit, cont inuing education organization for dentists and has led the profession in defining and implementing the components and principles of optimal oral health care. Billy also was a founder of the Class One Triple Plus Club, 1979, an organization that financially supports the enhancement of educational programs and encourages attendance at the Institute. During his tenure in the dental profession, Billy was one of the most honored laymen in the history of dentistry.
