WHITEHURST, Elizabeth S., 61, of Tampa, Fla., died Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at Manor Care in Tampa. Born in Dawson, Ga., she moved to Tampa from Georgia 32 years ago. She was a secretary retired from the Circus office at Egypt Shrine Temple, a member of Daughters of American Revolution, Daughters of the Nile Elam Temple #76 and of Protestant faith. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Amelia W. and Randy Michael Smith of Tampa; sister-in-law, Beverly Whitehurst of Monticello, Ga. Friends may call 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Turner Funeral Homes Brooksville Chapel. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday graveside at the Brooksville Cemetery with Dr. Robert Plank officiating. Burial will follow the service.

BRUNER, Ruth E., 87, of Hudson, died Thursday, October 24, 2002 at Bear Creek Nursing Center, Hudson. Born in Cottondale, Florida, she moved to this area in 1987 from Chipley, Florida. Ruth was a Licensed Practical Nurse for Lakeland Regional Hospital in Lakeland and was a Methodist. Ruth is survived by a daughter, Jonnie Sprimont of Hudson; two sisters, Mildred Miller of Tampa and Victoria Jones of Winter Haven; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Arrangements made by Bell Funeral Home, 7532 State Road 52, Hudson, Florida.

CASTELLO, Anthony J., 78, of New Port Richey passed away Oct. 24, 2002, at Community Hospital of New Port Richey. He was born in Revere, Mass. on Oct. 14, 1924, and came here 20 years ago from Boston, Mass. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, DAV, and life member of VFW Chester McKay Post #7987 in New Port Richey. He was a radiologist for the Veterans Administration in W. Roxbury, Mass. Survivors include his wife, Angelina; a son, Anthony Jr. of Newport News, Va.; two daughters, Donna Nugent of Bayonet Point, Fla., and Sheila Carlson of Natick, Mass.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral mass will be held Monday Oct. 28, 2002 at 9 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Burial at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. will follow.

DAVIDSON, Bobby, 71, of Zephyrhills, died Friday, October 25, 2002 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center in Dade City. A native of Richland, Virginia, he moved to this area in 1976 from Alexandria, Virginia. He was a retired truck driver and was a US Army Veteran of World War II and Korea and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include two sons, Butch and John Davidson, both of Mansfield, Ohio; two daughters, Kay Meyers of Nelsonville, Ohio and Pam Zellner of Mansfield, Ohio; a step-son, Ron Carrick of Zephyrhills; a step-daughter, Donna Sellers of Zephyrhills; a brother, Joe Davidson of Ohio; a sister, Alice Coleman of West Virginia; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

HULBERT, Eleanor Rippey, 88, of Holiday, died October 23, 2002 at home. Born in Paterson, N.J., she came here in 1973 from her hometown. She was a school teacher in the Ridgewood New Jersey school system. Eleanor was Episcopalian; a member of the New Jersey Education Association; and a graduate of William Paterson University and Montclair State University, Montclair, N.J. She is survived by her son, Wayne Hulbert of Holiday; her daughter, Wendy Loughran of Ponte Vedra, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

JONES, Naomi S., 82, was a resident of Dade City. She passed away on October 23, 2002. She was member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she served as deaconess for many years. She leaves to cherish her memories two loving and devoted daughters, Alfreda J. Pinkston of North Lauderdale, Fla. and Carolyn E. Ivey of Miami, Fla.; three sons, Eugene Jones of North Lauderdale, Fla., Edward D. Jones of Lauderdale Hills, Fla., and Rev. Floyd Jones of Dade City; four sisters, Marjorie S. Jones of Cleveland, Ohio, Geraldine Bush of Dade City, Delores S. Haigler of Columbia, S.C. and Florine Murphy of Orangeburg, S.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other sorrowing relatives and friends.

MOTTELER, Roy F., 95, of Port Richey, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2002 at Regional Medical Center, Bayonet Point in Hudson, Fla. Born in Rockport, Ind., he moved to Florida in 1970 from Detroit, Mich. He was a retired bookkeeper for K-Mart in Detroit. He was Lutheran and was a member of the Polish-American Club. He is survived by his daughter, Madeline Tucker of Port Richey; a brother, Elmer Motteler of Huntsville, Ala.; a niece, Laverne DeMeerLeer of Port Richey; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. National Cremation Society, New Port Richey, Fla.

PERDUE, Kenneth, 82, passed away October 20, 2002 in Dade City. Survived by his loving family. Services were held in West Virginia. Mr. Perdue was a Veteran of the US Army and worked for the Automotive Industry.

RODOPOULOS, Peter C., 70, of Holiday, died Thursday, October 24, 2002 at Gulfside Regional Hospice House in New Port Richey. He was born in Lowell, Massachusetts and moved to Holiday from Traverse City, Mich. in 1979. He was a Food and Beverage Director for Innisbrook Resort in Tarpon Springs and a Greek Orthodox. Survivors include two sons, Stephen K. Rodopoulos and Robert F. Rodopoulos, both of Montgomery, Ala.; daughter, Kelly Ann Rodopoulos of Delray Beach, Fla.; three brothers, William Rodopoulos of Anniston, Ala., George Rodis of Deltona, Fla. and Chris Rodis of Boca Raton, Fla.; three sisters, Marie DiDio of Port Richey, Joanne Cottone of Salem, N.H. and Helen Patrick of Flushing, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Dean Bryan and Margaret. A memorial service will be Saturday, October 26, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at Dobies Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Gulfside Regional Hospice, 3539 Universal Plaza, New Port Richey, FL 34652.

ROWE, Ruth M., 90, of New Port Richey, passed away October 24, 2002 at Community Hospital of New Port Richey. Born July 23, 1912, she came here 25 years ago from her native Indiana , Pa. She was a retired receptionist and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Carl; two sons, James of Hope Mills, N.C. and Charles of Monroeville, Pa.; daughter, Irene Campbell of Indiana , Pa.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

CRUISE, Patrick A., 77, of Seffner, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002. He is survived by two daughters, Pam E. Eugenio of Seffner and Kim Cruise of New York City; two sisters, Barbara Weaver and Catherine Walker, both of Erie. Pa.; and two granddaughters, Jaclyn and Danielle Eugenio. A native of Erie, Pa., he was a home improvement salesman and was a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus in Long Island, N.Y. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2002 at Nativity Catholic Church, with Father Michael Suszynski as celebrant.

EDWARDS, Michael D., 33, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002 in Tampa. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Temple Terrace. Mike was a respiratory therapist, did volunteer work with the Crisis Hotline, and was a public speaker at junior and senior high schools. Mike was a loving and dedicated father. Surviving him are daughters, Amelia and Ariel; a brother, Carlos; his mother, Sandra Wingate; dad, John Brewer; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held in Jacksonvillle at the Arlington Park Cemetery at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2002.

GADSDEN, Robert Godin, III, 62, of Tampa, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Jr. and Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lynne Taylor Gadsden; a daughter, Candace Gadsden Sierra and her husband, Christopher Michael Sierra of Treasure Island; two granddaughters, Jessica Candace Sierra and Megan Nicole Sierra; a son, Christopher Todd Gadsden and his wife, Kristin Clark Gadsden of Brea, California; granddaughter, Phoebe Jane Gadsden; and grandson, Christopher Clark Gadsden. Bob graduated from H.B. Plant High School in 1958 and the University of South Florida in 1967, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1958 to 1961. During college, he was a co-op student with Tampa Electric Company and upon graduation, joined TECO in Customer Service. In 1970, Bob transferred to the TECO Data Processsing where he remained until he joined Peoples Gas System in 1985, where he was promoted to Director of MIS in 1989. Upon the merger of Peoples Gas and TECO, Bob rejoined TECO and served until his retirement in July, 2001, following 36 years of total service. Bob was a dedicated family man, enjoying every opportunity to be with his children and grandchildren. He was an enthusiastic golfer, enjoying many hours on the links with his friends. He also followed the football fortunes of the Florida Gators and his beloved USF Bulls. Bob loved music, spending weekends tinkering with his guitars and keyboards in his den. He was an avid amateur historia n, belonging to the Tampa Historical Society, Tampa Bay History Center, South Carolina Historical Society and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. He was appointed to the Hillsborough County Historical Advisory Council in 2002. He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed each day. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to LifePath Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2002 in the chapel of Blount, Curry & Roel Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Avenue. Pastor Scott Collins will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service.

GOWEN, Lawrence James, 73, of Vero Beach, formerly of Tampa, died Thursday, October 24, 2002. Mr. Gowen was born in Queens, New York and was a retired member of the footwear industry. He was a member of St. Helen's Catholic Church in Vero Beach. Mr. Gowen was the son of the late Lawrence Gowen and Helen Gowen nee House. Mr. Gowen is survived by his wife of 22 years, Susie Gowen; his mother, Helen Gowen of Ozona Park, New York; his brother, Robert Gowen of Massapequa Park, New York; and his eight children, Thomas Gowen of Vero Beach, Kevin Gowen of Celebration, Fla., Terrence Gowen of Tampa, Sally Bowdon of San Diego, Calif., James Gowen of Tallahassee, Mary Motes of Gainesville, Eileen Bedinghaus of St. Petersburg, and Joseph Gowen of Tampa. Mr. Gowen is preceded in death by his son, Lawrence Gowen, Jr. Mr. Bowen is also survived by his 21 grandchildren. Mr. Gowen was a man of many interests. He was a voracious reader who was well-versed in areas from the mundane to the esoteric, a quality that was evidenced whenever he engaged in discussions or debate with one of his family's members. He was an avid sports fan, and loved Saturdays with his Fighting Irish and Sundays with his M iami Dolphins. A cosmopolitan gentleman, he had a love of travel and visited many locations abroad, such as the United Kingdom, France, and his ancestral homeland of Ireland. Whether he was at home or abroad, Mr. Gowen was a lover of food who enjoyed new culinary experiences, although his favorite meals were those shared with a gathering of his children and grandchildren. Of all his joys in life, none was greater to Mr. Gowen than his family. He was dedicated to having special, unique bonds with each one of his children and grandchildren. His memory shall be cherished and he shall be sorely missed by all of them. A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2002 at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home, 1655 27th Street, Vero Beach from 4 to 6 p.m. Rosary prayers will be said from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 28, at St. Helen's Catholic Church.

GRIEP, Ruth, 82, of Tampa, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 23, 2002. She is survived by three daughters, Ernestine Corens of Washington D.C., Karin Carlson of Rockford, Ill. and Kristin Orwig of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass for the Repose of the Soul will be held Monday morning at 11 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9724 Cross Creek Blvd. in Tampa, with Rev. Austin M. Mullen officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Rix of Dublin, Ga., Richard Hammond of Warrington, Mo., Donald Hammond (Deborah) of Valdosta, Ga., Randy Hammond (Michele) of Port Tampa, and William Hammond of Temple Terrace; 26 grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2002 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Avenue.
