ANDERSON, George F., of Sun City Center, died Aug. 18, 2002. Survived by wife, Cleo; and loving family. Services will be 2 p.m., Aug. 24, at United Methodist Church, Sun City.

BALSEIRO, Dora, 83, lifelong resident of Tampa, passed away August 20, 2002. She is survived by her sons, Manuel Balseiro, Jr., and his wife, Sandy and Ron Balseiro and his wife, Sylvia; brother, Manuel Menendez; sister, Olga Lee; grandsons, Ryan, David, and Daryl; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Balseiro graduated from Hillsborough High School and was a retired teachers aid from the Hillsborough County School District. Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 23, 2002, 10:00 a.m., at Centro Espanol Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to LifePath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele St., Tampa, 33609, in her memory.

BAYBUTT, Alice J., 86, of Tampa, Fla., died at St. Joseph's Hospital, Sunday evening, August 18, 2002. Mrs. Baybutt had been a resident of Tampa for 42 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert J. Baybutt, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Cecilia C.B. Van Auken; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Baybutt was an active member of St. Patrick Parish over the past 42 years. She was on the parish counsel, President and Board Member of St. Patrick's Women's Guild, member of the Aliasesen council of Catholic Women and a member of the Catholic Women's Club and St. Patrick's Choir. She was also a past member of the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Baybutt was retired from Montgomery Wards. She was born in Southbridge, Mass. and came to Tampa in 1961. A funeral mass will be conducted at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Saturday, August 24, 2002 at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends Friday, August 23, 2002, 6 to 8 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. Rosary service. Flowers will be accepted as well as donations to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Tampa. The family would like to thank the nurses on CSU at St. Joseph's for their care and compassion during her illness.

BOTBOL, Maria, 55, of Tampa, Florida, passed away August 19, 2002. She is survived by her sons, Ian A. Peabody and his wife, Joan, Bryan Peabody and his wife, Krissy and Alain Botbol; daughters, Solange and Michelle Botbol; grandchildren, Chanel and Marcello Rossi-Botbol; and her brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, August 24, 2002, at Blount Curry & Roel Funeral Homes, Garden of Memories Chapel, 4207 E. Lake Avenue. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

BROWN, William J., Jr.,`Bill`, 78, of Tampa passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Camill S. Brown; sons, Jake Brown and wife, Phyllis and Steve Brown. He was a Charter member of Wellspring United Methodist Church, served in the US Navy during World War II, and a member of the American Legion Post #152. Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 23, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park

CASANOVA, Dinora, 81, of Tampa, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at home. Survivors include her four sons, George Garrido, Ismael, Vincent, and Evelio Casanova; daughter, Sonjia Casanova; two sisters: Alice Prieto and Nellia Silva; brother: Dominic Pages; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass for the repose of her soul will be celebrated Friday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with celebrant, Father Crispin Keating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 p.m. with a wake rite at 7 p.m.

GARRETT, Karen Ellis, 58, of Tampa, passed away August 19, 2002 after long battle with breast cancer. She was a loving, Mama to five children, Cassie Garrett, Matthew Garrett, Scott Milikan, Shannon Wilkins, all from Tampa, and Lisa Bullock from Arkansas, `Mommy, We'll love you forever, We'll like you for always, as long as we're living our Mommy you'll be.` Her mother, Vera Harper from Largo; sister, Randi Ryan; and brother, Carl Hallock also survive her. Her three grandchildren will miss Grannie also; Micah Wilkins, Sam and Emily Bullock. She was the light of all of our lives and touched so many hearts with her humor and kindness. This was her philosophy: `You have to accept whatever comes and the only important thing is that you meet it with courage and the best you have to give.` (Eleanor Roosevelt). A gathering of family and friends celebrating Karen's life will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday.

East of Stevens Point, Wis., and Cheryl and John Olsen of Sparta, Wis.; brothers, Quentin Barnes, Norman Park, Ga., and Raymond Barnes, Camilla, Ga.; and grandchildren, Nathan, Alanna, Ryan, Justin, Shawn, Tami and John; and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2002 at Northgate Baptist Church, Rev. Daniel Howard, Pastor, Rev. Paul Joseph and Rev. Dixon Ayers officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Thonotosassa, Fla. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2002 at Swilley Funeral Home, 1602 W. Waters Ave., Tampa, Fla.

PHILBRICK, Edward Russ, 78, passed away August 18, 2002 in Brandon, Fla. Born in Lewiston, Maine, he moved to this area in 1956. He was an avid golfer and will be missed by his friends. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Parker; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

ROTH, Sarah L. `Sally`, age 76, a resident of Plant City, passed away on August 20, 2002. Mrs. Roth was a native of Youngstown, Ohio and a resident of Plant City since 1979. Mrs. Roth was a former Deputy clerk recorder in Mahoning County, Ohio and a homemaker. She was of the Reformed Presbyterian Faith. Predeceased by her brother, William. Survivors include her husband, John E. Roth of Plant City; two daughters, Heather Sparkman and her husband, Bryan of Lakeland and Leandra Ryan of Sydney, Australia; her brother, John Dysart of Youngstown; sister, Ann Folsom and her husband, James of Nashville, Tennessee; and two grandchildren, Tyler and Sydney of Lakeland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m., Wells Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Tim Carson officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

SANDERS, Dolores `Dee`, 53, of Tampa, died Saturday, August 17, 2002 in Tampa. She was preceded in death by her mother, Stella Rose Brandt; a sister, Karen Moore; and several beloved friends, all with whom she is now reunited. Survivors include her daughter, Amy Joy Sanders-Tadlock; her wonderful granddaughter, Breanna Rose Tadlock; three sisters, Nancy Altman of Numine, Penn., Linda George of Vandergrift, Penn. and Dian King of Kittanning, Penn.; a brother, Richard Brandt; incredible friends and a wonderful church family. Dee was born December 12, 1948 in Kelly Station, Pa., and moved to Tampa over 30 years ago. She had been employed with Cady Bag Company (formerly Ricketts Bag Company) for nearly 30 years and most recently with Cherokee Manufacturing. She was a member of East Chelse a Baptist Church and the Order of the Amaranth. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Friday, August 23, 2002 at 7:30 p.m. at her church home, East Chelsea Baptist Church, 7225 East Chelsea Street, Tampa, FL 33610.

SELF, Thelma Ailie, 93, died on Sunday, August 18, 2002 in Trenton, N.J. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Jo; her son, Bobby; and her husband, Robert Gates. She is survived by her son, George and his wife, Anne of Trenton, N.J.; and a sister, Dorothy Lay of Lawton, Okla. She is a grandmother of eight, and a great-grandmother of four. Ailie was born in Tampa and was a life-long resident until her move to Trenton, N.J. in 1999. She is a native Floridian and her maternal family is listed among the First 100 families to settle in Florida. Thelma was the owner and director of Merryland Preschool in Tampa for over 30 years. She was an original member of Idlewild Baptist Church, in Carrollwood, Fla. and while in Tampa, she was an active member of the Fidelis Class. In her spare time she liked to read cookbooks and enjoyed cooking. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, and gardening. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Idlewild Baptist Church at 1515 West Bearss Avenue. Family will meet with friends on Monday, Aug. 26 from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home, 3207 W. Bearss Avenue, Tampa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kid's Wish Network, 160 Scarlet Blvd., Oldsmar, FL 34677, 813-891-9374, or to your favorite children's charity.

SLEDGE, Jack, 75, of Plant City passed away August 21, 2002. He is survived by one sister, Imogene Kirby and her husband Charlie O.; one nephew, Charles W. Barry and his wife Karen; and one great-niece, Shannon Watkins and her husband Nathan. He was predeceased by his companion, Richard Flack. Mr. Sledge was retired from the trucking industry and was a member of Turkey Creek First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Friday August 23, 2002 at 10 a.m. from Turkey Creek First Baptist Church with Rev. David Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Hillsboro Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening (tonight) 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

WILCOX, Viola, 94, of Tampa, Florida died on August 19, 2002. A native of Chicago, Illinois, she became a resident in the Tampa Bay area in 1943. She is survived by two daughters, Lois Schell and her husband, Rolfe Schell of Dade City, Florida and Sandra Brown and her husband, Billy Brown of San Antonio, Florida; one son, John Lee Wilcox and his wife, Patricia Wilcox of Greensboro, North Carolina; eight grand-children; and 13 great-grand-children. In compliance to her wishes, there will be no funeral service or memorial services.

JOFFRION, Joel M., 55, of Zephyrhills, died Sunday, August 18, 2002 as a result of an automobile accident. A native of Houston, Texas , he moved to Zephyrhills in 1999 from Tampa. He was the Chief Flight Instructor for Jones Flying Service at the Sarasota/Bradenton Airport. Survivors include two sons, Joseph Joffrion and his wife, Brenda of Wrightstown, Wis. and Jacque Joffrion and his wife, Brittany of Clovis, N.M.; his best friend, Theresa Ransbottom of Zephyrhills; two brothers, Renee Joffrion of San Diego and Gregg Joffrion of Germany; four sisters, Ruth Bosner of Loveland, Colo., Carol Herbain of Roswell, N.M., Marla Phillips and Yvonne Ormond, both of Hampton, Va.; and two grandchildren, McKenzie Joffrion of Wrightstown and Julia Joffrion of Clovis. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2002 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in San Antonio with Deacon R. Barry Wallace officiating.

STEELE, Charles `Bud` T., age 79, of Zephyrhills, passed away August 8, 2002 at his residence. Mr. Steele moved to Zephyrhills from Turner Air Force Base, Georgia in 1967 after retiring from the military. He served in World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam; was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #65 in Zephyrhills; and a Catholic. Survivors include his wife, Edwina Steele of Zephyrhills; one sister, Betty Ann Miller of Saratoga Springs, New York; sister-in-law, Pearl Guleff of Zephyrhills; nieces, Barbara Ann O'Keefe of Massachusetts and Candy Vaganek of Sparta, New Jersey; a nephew, Robert Ryoul of New Jersey; and several other nieces and nephews. Services were held Monday, August 12 at Kelly Memorial Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oakside Cemetery in Zephyrhills, Fla. with full military Honors.
