RIVOIRE, Father S. Joseph, S.J., died on Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at Ignatius Residence in New Orleans, La. Age 82 years, a native of Baton Rouge, La. and resided in Monroe, La. until he entered the Jesuit novitiate in 1936. Survived by sisters, Mrs. Louise Phipps of Hanover, Md. and Jeannette Marie Rivoire of King of Prussia, Pa.; a brother, John Robert Rivoire of South Falls Church, Va.; an d was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Catherine Keller and a brother Ulysse Victor Rivoire. He attended all 12 grades at St. Matthew School in Monroe, La.; attended Spring Hill College, Mobile, Ala.; and later St. Mary's College, Kansas, in preparation for the priesthood and was ordained by Bishop Ignatius Glennie, S.J. in 1949. His ministry was largely in the Jesuit Schools of Dallas, Texas , Tampa, Fla. and Shreveport, La., where he served as teacher, counselor, assistant principal, alumni director and archivist. He spent most of his active ministry at Jesuit College Preparatory in Dallas, Texas from 1952-67, 1972-79 and 1989-94. He served briefly at Holy Name of Jesus and Immaculate Conception Parishes in New Orleans, La., and in the mid 1990's at the Lourdes-Noreen McKeen Residence for Geriatric Care in W. Palm Beach, Fla. From 1996-2000 he ministered at St. Luke's Church in Irving, Texas in the Dallas area. Since that time Fr. Rivoire has been at Ignatius Residence in New Orleans, La. STEVENS, Jr., Dr. James Lowel, 51 of Plant City died November 21, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Margaret; sons, Gregory, Eric, and James L. `Trey` III all of Plant City; parents, James and Lorraine Steven Sr. of Dallas, Texas ; sisters, Patti Stevens and Karen Stevens both of Austin, Texas ; nieces, Tracy and Samantha Waldroup, Kimmie and Ali Banks, Samantha Black and Cynthia Phil lpot; and nephews, Chris, Alan, and A.J. Black, David and Matthew Crow. He was preceded in death by sister, Pamela Stevens Crow. He graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1968, from FSU in 1972 where he was a member of the Varsity Club Swim Team, and from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1976. He was an avid Seminole fan. He was associated with Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity, Ameri can Dental Association, West Coast Dental Association, and Polk County Dental Association. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry as well as Jr. and Sr. Warden. He was an Eagle Scout and served as Scout Master for Troop 733. He coached many recreational soccer and basketball teams through or with the Plant City recreational Dept. He coached the Plant City Swi m Club in 1977. Dr. Stevens died at home after a long and courageous battle with melanoma. He was known as someone who touched the lives of many through his dental practice of Conway & Stevens, and his association with children through scouting and sports. He remained an inspiration to all who knew him. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in St. Peter's Episcopal Church with Rev. Leste r Durst officiating. FORD, Nancy Torbett, 74, died Friday night, November 23, 2001, after a long illness. She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, Charles E. Ford; daughters, Nancy `CJo` Ford and Charlton M. Ford; and grand- children, Genevieve T. Mashburn, Ford Ross Cheeseman, and Sean Michael Duffy. A native and lifetime resident of Tampa, Nancy Ford was the only child of Dr. and Mrs Ralph Torbett. She grew up in Hyde Park and attended Gorrie Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Junior High and Plant High School. After receiving her B.A. Degree from Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Virginia. in 1948, Nancy credited her years there as having had the greatest influence on her adult life. Nancy contributed to Tampa in both volunteer and paid positions, beginning with the Junior League of Tampa, serving as its president in 1964-65, and receiving the Sustainer of the Year Award in 1977, the youngest person to be so honored. Her professional career began in 1966, as Vice President for Executive Services of First National Bank of Florida, and included serving as Assistant to the President for Community Relations at the University of South Florida. After working as a public relations consulta nt she became Director of Public Affairs for the University of South Florida Medical Center in 1979, served as Executive Director of the Volvo World Cup of Showjumping, and was Vice President for Development and Pubic Relations at St. Joseph's Health Center until 1992. Nancy Ford was tireless in her community Involvement in Tampa, beginning in 1950, when she joined the Junior League of Tampa. She served as President of the Tampa Philharmonic/Florida Gulf Coast Symphony, United Cerebral Palsy of Tampa, the Arts Council of Tampa, Hillsborough Community Mental Health Center, St. Joseph's Hospital Development Council, the Athena Society, the Florida Women's Network, and the International Alliance, as well as the Junior League. She was also a co-founder of the Children's Cancer Center, and a fo unding member of the Museum Society of the Henry B. Plant Museum, Town and Gown, and the Florida Women's Network. She was affectionately known as the `Founding Mother` of the Athena Society, formed to promote and encourage the acceptance of women in business, the professions, and other positions of responsibility, and to improve the status of women, a cause to which she devoted her considerable en ergies throughout her personal and professional career. She also served on the boards of the Performing Arts Center, the Tower Club, the Tampa Historical Society, and the Gasparilla Sidewalk Art Festival Committee. Appointive positions she held include the Florida State Retirement Commission, the Florida Commission on the Status of Women, the Children's Committee of Hillsborough County, the Tampa Bi-Racial Committee, Hillsborough County Civil Service Commission, and the City of Tampa Convention Center Review Committee. Nancy received many honors and awards, among them the Governor's Award for the Arts, Soroptomist International of Tampa Women helping Women Award for the Arts, Executive Woman of the Year Award of the Network of Executive Women, Businesswoman of the Year Award from Sales & M arketing Executives, and Zonta Woman of the Year. She felt particularly honored when she was named an Alumna of Distinction by Randolph-Macon Woman's College. Notably, as Chair of the Florida Gulf Coast Symphony's Board of Directors, she was instrumental in negotiating the first successful merger of two operating symphonies in the country, forming what is now the Florida Orchestra. Her most recent effort has been the promotion and underwriting of an updated edition of `A History of Women in Tampa,` a book commissioned by the Athena Society.
