Catherine Victoria (Piraino) Poole 72, of Jacksonville, died, November 25, 2001. She was born on November 11, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland. A former resident of Parkville, Maryland, she moved to the area in 1995. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church. She was the wife of William B. Poole, mother of Karen D. Calvert and Christian M. Poole, loving sister of Josephine E. Parks, and grandmother to Nicole Bonvegna.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, with interment at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery. Mass cards may be sent to the family.

Heyward Lee Smith, 61, of Atlantic Beach, died Saturday Nov. 24, 2001. A native of Chester, S.C., he was a veteran, serving in the Navy and the National Guard of South Carolina, Army Reserve.
Survivors include his wife, Dolly D. Smith, Atlantic Beach; daughters Debra Padgett, Atlantic Beach, Elaine Paquin, Chester, Kimberly Godfrey of Stockbridge, Ga., and Vicki Smith of Florida; sons James Franklin Colvin of Chester and Heyward Lee Smith Jr., Century, Fla.; sister Barbara Bland of Chester, 18 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Clara LeGrand, 82, of Jacksonville Beach, died Oct. 2, 2002 at her home. Born Oct. 7, 1919, in Battle Creek, Mich., she was a homemaker and a member of Ocean Park Southern Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred M. LeGrand, and a daughter, Jenny LeGrand.
She is survived by her sons, David, Ronald, and Richard LeGrand; daughters Carla Kelly and Barbara Cockrell, 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, from the graveside at H. Warren Smith Cemetery, with the Rev. David LeGrand officiating. The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach.
Thomas E. McDonald
Ponte Vedra Beach
Thomas E. McDonald of Ponte Vedra Beach died Sept. 19, 2002 in St. Augustine. He was 85. Born Dec. 18, 1916 in Chicago, he was a retired partner with KPMG and honorary treasurer of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America.
Mr. McDonald was a veteran of the Army, serving during World War II, and was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine McDonald; son Thomas C. McDonald of Bethesda, Md.; daughter Mary Catherine Robertson of St. Simon's Island, Ga.; brother George McDonald of San Francisco; sisters Joan Welsh of San Francisco and Betty Sutherland of Dallas, and four grandchildren.
Cryptside services for the inurnment of ashes will take place Nov. 15 at Arlington National Cemetery

Joanne E. Medrano, 35, of Atlantic Beach, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville. Born May 31, 1967 in Minneapolis, she moved to the Beaches area in 1974 from Marietta, Ga. She was a cashier for Wal-Mart and a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her son, William Joseph Oswalt Jr. of Atlantic Beach; parents Fortunata and Bonifacio Medrano of Atlantic Beach, and brother Jeff Medrano, Atlantic Beach.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 850 N. St. Johns Bluff Road, Jacksonville, followed by interment in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
