William Kenneth Nable
William Kenneth Nable, 76, of Davenport, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at his residence.
He was a native of Pittsburgh, who came to the area from Orlando, in 1947. He was one of the most dedicated pioneers in the continued development of Davenport. He served as mayor of Davenport for 11 years and was instrumental in the city of Davenport offering a public pool, community center and parks. He served as a city councilman and volunteer fireman. As a commercial and residential general contractor, he served as city building inspector in his retirement years. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving as a gunner on a PBY bomber off South America.
He was also a member of Kissimmee Elks Lodge No. 1873, Haines City Rotary Club, Frierson-Nichols Post 8 of the American Legion in Winter Haven, VFW Post 6931 in Davenport, and Masonic Lodge No. 219 F&AM in Haines city. He was a member of the Davenport United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Lee Nable; daughters, Sharon Knowles and Tracy Bryant, both of Davenport; Billie Bentley and Robin Wagman of Haines City; brothers, Eugene W. Nable of Orlando, Richard D. Nable of Macon, Ga., and Jesse G. Nable of Tallahassee; four grandsons, three granddaughters, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery
in Davenport. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
