Todd M. Bair
Todd M. Bair of Worchestershire, England and a former resident of Lake Wales, died Monday, May 12, 2003 in the terrorist bombing of the Vinnell Corporation Compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He was 37.
Born Jan. 29, 1966 in Huntington, Ind., he moved to Lake Wales in 1977. He graduated from Lake Wales High School in 1984 and joined the U.S. Army. He served in the Army as an enlisted man and upon separation, returned to Lake Wales and finished his Associate Degree at Polk Community College. He was then awarded an ROTC scholarship to Florida Southern College. Prior to beginning his studies, he was recalled to active duty and spent eight months in Saudi Arabia and Iraq in Desert Storm. He returned to Polk County in April 1991 and earned his Bachelor of Science degree and his commission in the U.S. Army from Florida Southern College in 1993. He served in the Army until May 2002, rising to the rank of captain.
Mr. Bair and his family moved to England in the summer of 2002 to be near his wifeís family. He began a contract with the Vinnell Corporation as a civilian military trainer to the Saudi National Guard (Army). He was a logistics and transportation specialist and was two months from completing his contract with Vinnell.
He is survived by his wife, Samantha, and sons Daniel and Blake of Worchestershire, England; his mother, Emmy Thompson of Lake Wales; his father, Paul Bair, Jr. of Winter Haven; his sister, Tammy Stephenson of Winter Springs; his step-father, Rich Thompson of Lake Wales and his step-sisters, Shelley Brown and Krista Thompson, both of Lake Wales.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church of Lake Wales.
Marianne L. Boyd
Marianne L. Boyd of McCormick, S.C. died Friday, May 16, 2003 at her residence. She was 76.
She was born on Sept. 3, 1925 in Detroit, Mich. and moved from Winter Haven to McCormick, S.C. in 1996. She served as an American Cancer Society executive director for Polk County and as executive director of Keep Winter Haven Clean while residing in Winter Haven. In 1985 she received Sertomaís ěService to Mankindî award and in 2000 she was named a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis J. Boyd.
She is survived by two sons, William E. Boyd of McCormick, S.C. and Frank Boyd of Westminster, S.C.; three daughters, Beverly Burns of Springfield, Va., Marianne Schneider of Brentwood, Tenn. and Virginia Busch of Atlanta, Ga. and nine grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted on Monday, May 19, 2003 at Lakeside Memorial Park, Winter Haven.

Dorothy Myers
Dorothy Myers of Lake Wales, Fla. died Saturday, May 17, 2003 at Clare Bridge Cottage, Winter Haven. She was 95.
She was born on Oct. 16, 1907 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and came here from Detroit, Mich. in 1994. She was a former member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Detroit, Mich. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed being around people and her dog, Maggie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Myers in 1966.
She is survived by her son John William Myers of Lake Wales, Fla., one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, May 23, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Wales, Fla. with the Rev. Phillip Short officiating. Interment will be held at the Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley, Mich. Visitation is scheduled from noon until service time at 2 p.m. on Friday.

Patricia "Pat" Walker
Patricia ìPatî Walker of Nalcrest, Fla. died Monday, May 26, 2003 at the hospice center in Auburndale, Fla. She was 77.
She was born March 15, 1926 in Brooklyn, N.Y. and came here from Long Island, N.Y. seven years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Saint Leo Catholic Mission of Nalcrest, Fla. She enjoyed playing Euchre. She was a mother figure to all.
She is survived by her husband, Frank W. Walker of Nalcrest; a daughter, Patricia Ann Walker of Winter Haven, Fla.; a son, Michael Francis Walker of Titusville, Fla.; a brother, Thomas Dowd of Flushing, N.Y.; two sisters, Kathleen Simonetti of Saint Cloud, Fla. and Marguerite Remmell of Cincinnati, Ohio and one grandchild.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2003 at Saint Leoís Catholic Mission of Nalcrest, Fla. with Father Leo Dobo officiating. Interment is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Thursday, May 29, 2003 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 2003 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales, Fla. Rosary is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003.

Rita Dunn Broadbent
Rita Dunn Broadbent of Lake Wales, Fla. died June 26, 2003 at The Grove Center in Lake Wales. She was 79.
She was born in Middletown, Conn. and lived in Newington, Conn. for 29 years. She came to Lake Wales in 2000.
Mrs. Broadbent was a member of the Lake Wales Country Club and a member of the Indian Hills Country Club in Newington, Conn.
She was preceded in death by a son, John F. Broadbent; twelve brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Richard E. Broadbent of Lake Wales; three sons, Jeffry F. Broadbent of Avon, Conn., Gary R. Broadbent of Queen Creek, Ariz., and David J. Broadbent of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; two daughters, Jean S. Paul of Farmington, Conn. and Sally A. Flynn of Manchester, Conn.; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at the Cromwell Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 1, 2003 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. John Church in Cromwell, Conn. A Mass of Christian Burial was also celebrated at the church.
Interment was held in Indian Hill Cemetery, Middletown, Conn.

James Mabry
James "Mulberry" Mabry of Lake Wales died Monday, June 16, 2003 at the Lake Wales Extended Care Facility. He was 62.
Mr. Mabry was born in Spartanburg, S.C. on April 17, 1940. He came to Lake Wales 20 years ago and he was a citrus worker.
He is survived by three sisters, including Joanna Wilkins of Moore, S.C. and a brother Albert Mabry of Arlington, Va.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 28, 2003 at the Epps Mortuary Chapel, Lake Wales, Fla.
Harriet D. Allen
Harriet D. Allen of Babson Park, Fla. died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at Royal Care in Avon Park, Fla. She was 80.
Mrs. Allen was born February 28, 1923, in Pittsfield, N.H. She moved to Babson Park from Austin, Minn. twelve years ago.
She was a homemaker and attended Babson Park Community Church.
Mrs. Allen is survived by a son Ronald Updyke of Loxahatchee, Fla; a daughter, Sharon E. Massalone of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a son Timothy U. Poitras of Babson Park, Fla.; a stepson, Gordon "Bud" Allen of Coral Springs, Fla.; stepdaughter, Denise Maloney of San Antonio, Texas; stepson, Richard C. Allen of Lakewood, N.J.; stepson, David S. Allen of Rising Sun, Ind.; a sister, Violet Waples of Alton, N.H. and two brothers, Leonard "Bunny" Reil and Warren "Bobby" Reil, both of Barnstead, N.H.
Memorial services were held Sunday, July 20, at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Keith Thompson officiating. Inurnment will be at the Lake Wales Cemetery at a later date.
