John Kennedy 'Jake' Miller
John Kennedy "Jake" Miller, 56, of Bartow, died of complications of cerebral palsy Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Sunrise Community, Inc., in Bartow.
Mr. Miller was born in Bartow on July 3, 1948.
He was a member of Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his mother, Betty K. Miller.
Survivors include his father, Dr. John H. Miller of Bartow; and his aunts and uncles, Dr. and Mrs. Robert W. Miller of Kingsport, Tenn., Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood Miller of Lancaster, S.C., Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Dalton of Roanoke, Va., Mrs. K. H. Miller of Clemson, S.C., and Mrs. W. C. Miller, Jr., of Litchfield Beach, S.C.
Visitation: Thursday, Oct. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow.
The funeral: Friday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m., at Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow, with Rev. Charles Clendinen officiating.

Doris Carleton Foster
Doris Carleton Foster, 79, of Las Vegas, a longtime resident of Bartow, died Monday, July 26, 2004, at the Life Care Center of Las Vegas.
Born July 30, 1924, in Bridgeport, Conn., Mrs. Foster moved to Florida at an early age and spent most of her life in Bartow. She was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Rev. Russell S. Carleton; three brothers, Ivan, Hazen, and Carl Carleton; and her husband, George W. Foster.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Monte and husband, Mario, and Cindy West and husband, Jason, of Las Vegas; four grandchildren, Matt Monte and wife, Kathleen, of Las Vegas, Adrian Monte of Chicago, Gabe Monte and wife, Lacee, of Concord, N.C., and Emilie West of Las Vegas; and two great-grandsons, Miles Monte of Concord, N.C., and Colin Monte of Las Vegas.
Cremation arrangements will be taken care of in Las Vegas in October, and she will be returned to her home in Bartow for placement in the Memorial Garden at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
Specific arrangements will be announced at a later date.
Julia Mann Young
Julia Mann Young, 90, of Bartow, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Rohr Nursing Home in Bartow.
Born Dec. 9, 1913, in Old Myakka, Fla., Mrs. Young was a longtime resident of Bartow, moving from Agricola, Fla.
She was a sectionizer at Snively Groves. She was a member of First Assembly of God.
Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Young. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Alderman, and her husband, Wayne, of Mulberry; one son, Bill Young, and his wife, Betty, of Bartow; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow.
The funeral: Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m., at the funeral home, with Rev. Billy F. Green and Corrine O'Bryan officiating.
Interment: Bethlehem Memorial Cemetery in Mulberry.

Myrtle Lee Leedy
Myrtle Lee (Rose) Leedy died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at her home in South Carolina.
She was 101 years old.
Mrs. Leedy was born Nov. 11, 1902, in Elliott County, Ky., to the late John Jesse Rose and Margaret Virginia (Pennington) Rose.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, according to family members.
Mrs. Leedy was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Walter Leedy, Sr., in 1966; seven sisters, Mary Ann Rose, Ivory (Rose) McCullum, Rosa (Rose) Hackworth, Lucy (Rose) Hanson, Elizabeth Rose, Alice (Rose) Dixon, and Jewell (Rose) Cassell; one brother, Everett Rose; one half-brother, Ernest Rose; three children, Irene (Leedy) Workman, John Cecil (J.C.) Leedy, and Leonard Walter Leedy, Jr.; and two grandchildren, John Robert Workman and Jerry Philip Hartley.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Ellen (Leedy) Hartley and husband, Philip Austin Hartley, and Mary Alice (Leedy) Horton and husband, Steven Keith Horton; one daughter-in-law, Barbara (Ward) Leedy; one son-in-law, Doc L. Workman; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m., at Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow, where her ashes will be interred beside her late husband.

Minnie Lee Jenkins
Minnie Lee Jenkins, 89, of Bartow, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Grace Healthcare.
Mrs. Jenkins was born Sept. 5, 1914, in Milton.
She was a teacher, and a member of First Providence Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Jenkins, Sr.; four sons, Lloyd Jenkins and Willie T. Jenkins, both of Bartow, Eddie L. Jenkins of Valrcio, and Thomas Jenkins, Jr., of Pensacola; two sisters, Anne Mae Grooms of Salinas, Cal., and Cora Lee Scrubbs of Valdosta, Ga.; one brother, William Franklin of Mulberry; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation: Friday, May 28, from 3 to 8 p.m., at Gause Funeral Home in Bartow.
The funeral: Saturday, May 29, at 2 p.m., at Providence Progressive Missionary Baptist Church.
Interment: Wildwood Cemetery.
Oscar James "Big Jim" Wesley
Oscar James "Big Jim" Wesley, 59, of Fort Meade, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Wesley was born Oct. 24, 1944, in Union, Ala.
He was a heavy equipment operator for Mobil Chemical Co.
Survivors include his companion, Bessie Smith of Fort Meade; three sons, Michael F. Smith of Davenport, Iowa, Oscar James Wesley, Jr., of Lakeland, and Kenyuatta L. Wesley of North Carolina; three daughters, Tamara R. Wesley of Bartow, and Shakerra Campbell and Adrian N. Wesley, both of Fort Meade; one step-son, Kenneth O. Sanders of Bartow; his step-parents, Donald and Rose Wilder of Tampa; three brothers and five sisters; and 16 grandchildren.
Visitation: Friday, May 28, from 3 to 8 p.m., at Gause Funeral Home in Bartow.
The funeral: Saturday, May 29, at 2 p.m., at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Fort Meade.
Interment: Morrison Cemetery, Fort Meade.
