John R. Peterson
John R. Peterson, 79, of Bartow, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at his residence.
Born Nov. 25, 1924, in Spruce Pine, N. C., Mr. Peterson moved to Bartow 47 years ago.
He founded Peterson's Dry Cleaning in Bartow 43 years ago, and was a manager at Townsend Lumber for five years. He attended First Presbyterian Church of Bartow where he was a deacon and choir member. He was a member of the Bartow Golf Club, and a past president of the Peace River Country Club.
Mr. Peterson was a U.S. Merchant Marine veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: his wife, Jenny Peterson; two sons, Randy Peterson, Jr., of Bartow, and Jim H. Peterson of Hazelhurst, Ga.; one daughter, Lynne P. Spears of Atlanta; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow.
The funeral: Thursday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. James B. Hatch officiating.
Interment: J. L. Locke Crematory, Davenport.

Estelle Snelling
Estelle Snelling, 82, of Bowling Green, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Bartow Memorial Hospital.
Ms. Snelling was born Sept. 22, 1921, in Bowling Green.
She was a homemaker. She attended Chester Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Charles W. Snelling, and one sister, Parl Riley, both of Lakeland; 10 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Friday, Jan. 9, from 3 to 8 p.m., at Gause Funeral Home in Bartow.
The funeral: Saturday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m., at Chester Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Bowling Green.
Interment: Bowling Green Memorial Garden.
Howard Cecil Shrider
Howard Cecil Shrider, 87, of Bartow, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
Born June 10, 1916, in Zanesville, Ohio, Mr. Shrider just recently moved to Bartow.
Mr. Shrider was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.
Survivors include: his wife, Bonita Shrider; two sons, Danny Shrider of Bartow and Jerry Shrider of Hollywood, Fla.; one brother, Forrest Shrider of Glendale, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Glennie L. 'Nell' Newman
Glennie L. "Nell" Newman, 82, of Lakeland, died of renal failure Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 14, 1922, in Samson, Ala., Mrs. Newman moved to Polk County 64 years ago.
She was a licensed practical nurse at Polk General Hospital for 28 years. She was a member of World Wide Church of God in Lakeland.
Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her husband, Ike P. Newman.
Survivors include one son, Vernon Phillips of Hawkinsville, Ga.; three sisters, Kate Brodhage of Hartford, Ala., and Jeanette Bowdin and Betty Joyce Henderson, both of Samson, Ala; one brother, Royce Phillips of Samson, Ala.; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Friday, Dec. 17, from 1 to 2 p.m., at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Fort Meade.
The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Guy Ames officiating.
Interment: Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow.
Orvian W. Muldrow
Orvian W. Muldrow, 75, of Bartow, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at the Bartow Center.
Mr. Muldrow was born March 7, 1929, in Wimauma.
He was a laborer, and a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta (Smith) Muldrow; five daughters, Marjorie Hammond of Wimauma, Mamie Simmons and Carrie McMillan, both of Tampa, Lola Wilson of Bartow, and Mattie Robinson of Akron, Ohio; one son, Bernard Pierce of Orlando; one sister, Bernice Muldrow of Eustis; and 16 grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, Oct. 4, from 3 to 8 p.m., at Gause Funeral Home in Bartow.
The funeral: Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m., at the funeral home.
Interment: Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
Frances Marie White
Frances Marie White, 78, of Bartow, died of respiratory failure Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at the Bartow Center.
Ms. White was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Annapolis, Md.
She was a Wal-Mart sales representative for 10 years, and was formerly employed with Westinghouse Corp. for many years.
She was Methodist.
Survivors include one son, Albert White of Cumberland, Md., and one sister, Jacqueline E. Neyhart of Silver Spring, Md.
