Douglas A. Gattie
Douglas A. Gattie, 54, of Bartow, died of heart failure Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Bartow Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 25, 1949, in Macon, Ga., Mr. Gattie was a longtime Bartow resident.
He was employed by the Juice Bowl in Lakeland as a forklift operator. He attended Community Christian Church in Bartow.
Mr. Gattie was preceded in death by his son, A.J. Gattie, and his mother, Ella Cobb. Survivors include: his wife, Angie Gattie; two sons, Allen Gattie of Mulberry and Brandon Gattie of Bartow; one step-son, Robert Goldrick of London, Ontario; two daughters, Jennifer Nickerson of Live Oak and Dana Booz of Fort Meade; two step-daughters, Kathy Goldrick of London, Ontario, and Tina Goldrick of Ingersoll, Ontario; one brother, Ronald Gattie of Bartow; three sisters, Jean Spears, Linette Donnelly and Virginia Coffman, all of Bartow; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow.
The funeral: Saturday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home, with James L. Stith and Bill Cales officiating.
Interment: Wildwood Cemetery, Bartow.
Jewel S. Gillespie
Jewel S. Gillespie, 79, of Sun City Center, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at South Bay Hospital.
Born Aug. 14, 1924, in Wetumpka, Ala., Mrs. Gillespie moved to Sun City Center from Bartow three years ago.
She was a homemaker. She was Pentecostal.
Mrs. Gillespie is survived by: her husband, John P. Gillespie; one daughter, Judy Poppovitch of Ruskin; two brothers, Thomas E. Smitherman of Ft. Walton Beach and Willie Clyde Smitherman of Houston, Texas; one sister, Bobbie Jean Shaw of Montgomery, Ala.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral: Sunday, Dec. 7, at 12:30 p.m., at Sun City Christian Center, with Rev. Alen Beck officiating.
Interment: Wildwood Cemetery, Bartow.

Luetricia E. "Red" Johnson, 50, of Lakeland, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at her home.
Mrs. Johnson was born March 20, 1953, in Bartow.
She was a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service. She attended the Refuge Church of Our Lord Jesus in Bartow.
Survivors include: her husband, Robert Johnson of Orlando; her father, Moses Wearing, Sr., of Bartow; 12 daughters, Martha Johnson of Germany, and Tanesha Johnson McNeil, Taumia Johnson, Talonda Johnson, Liddiane Wearing, Tabitha Johnson, Rachel Wearing, Joanna Wearing, Leah Wearing, Priscilla Wearing, Samatha Wearing, and Amy Wearing, all of Lakeland; four sons, Isaac Johnson, Joshua Wearing, Samuel Wearing, and Michael Wearing, all of Lakeland; four sisters, Gwendolyn Wearing, Vera Harvey, Mozelle Wearing, and Sharon Holloway, all of Bartow; seven brothers, Moses Wearing, Jr., of Auburndale, Alphonso Green of Supprise, Ariz., Joseph Wearing of Bartow, Donald Wearing of Bartow, Donnie Wearing of Fort Meade, Marty Johnson of Bartow, and George Jones of Bartow; one cousin, Gwendolyn Wearing of Bartow; and 15 grandchildren.

Grace D. Benson
Grace D. Benson, 87, of Winter Haven, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at her residence.
Born in Arnoldsville, Ga., Mrs. Benson moved to the Winter Haven area in 1930. She was an interviewer with the State of Florida Job Service.
She was a member of Inman Park Baptist Church in Winter Haven. She was a Pink Lady at the Regency in Winter Haven, and was a former member of the Business Women's Professional Club in Winter Haven.
Mrs. Benson was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Eugene Benson in 1997, and her husband, Thomas Clifford Benson in 2002. Survivors include: one daughter, Shirley Blackwelder of Winter Haven; a brother, George Dean, Jr., of Winter Haven; a sister, Mildred Henson of Winter Haven; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Friday, May 30, from noon to 1 p.m., at Inman Park Baptist Church.
Funeral: Friday, May 30, 1 p.m., at Inman Park Baptist Church, with Rev. Randy Elrod officiating.

Judith Lorraine Anderson
Judith "Judy" Lorraine Anderson, 59, of Lakeland, died Saturday, May 24, 2003.
Mrs. Anderson was born Nov. 19, 1943, in Lakeland.
She was preceded in death by her son, Marshall Anderson, in 1997. Survivors include: her husband, Jeff Hufstedler; one daughter, Deborah L. Hufstedler; one grandson, Jeffery Marshall Hufstedler; her mother, Earleen Todd of Lakeland; her father, Jack Todd, and step-mother, Ceil Todd, of Georgia; one brother, John E. Todd of Georgia; one half-sister, Tanyna Kittelson of Texas; and other family and friends.

Joel Carroll, Jr.
Joel Carroll, Jr., 67, of Bartow, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at his residence.
Mr. Carroll was born in Lakeland on June 3, 1935, and was a lifelong resident of Polk County. He was a truck driver and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Jewell Carroll of Bartow; four daughters, Pamela Gay of Jasper, Ala., Sandy Andrews of Winter Haven, Tammie Lee of Lake Wales, and Connie Terrell of Red Bank, Tenn.; two sons, Terry Carroll of Lakeland, and Scott Hamm of Coleman, Ala.; a sister, Vivian Gay of Georgia; thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Friday, April 4, at 11 a.m., at Cleveland Heights Baptist Church, Lakeland.

Dorothy Davis Corhn
Dorothy Davis Corhn, 60, of Fort Meade, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Bartow Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 25, 1942, in Atlanta, Ga., she moved to Fort Meade about 50 years ago. She was employed by the City of Fort Meade for 32 years. Ms. Corhn also was a Baptist.
Survivors include her son, Jeff Corhn of Lakeland; two nephews, Robert Davis of Lakeland, Chris Pryor of Bunnell; and two nieces, Joy Sears of Nashville, Tenn., and Hope Holley of Lakeland.
Visitation: Was at McLean Funeral Home on Sunday, April 6, in Fort Meade.
Funeral: Was held at Cornerstone Church of God on Monday, April 7.
Officiating Clergy were Rev. Kenny Slay and Rev. John Arrowood.
Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Meade.
