Born in Brooklyn, New York, “Jim” the oldest son of Michael Walsh and Delia Quinn was on of nine children. In his teens, Jim attended Erasmus High School, and continued his studies at Columbia University in New York City.
With the onset of World War II, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 2nd Calvary Regiment at Ft. Riley, KA., the most historic mounted regiment in military history. As Tank Commander with the 9th Armored, Jim traveled to Normandy, and fought in Bastone during the Battle of the Buldge, a key US military victory. Later in the war, the 9th added another page to its history with the taking of the bridge at Remagen, which allowed the Allied soldiers to continue their advance Armored Division units that liberated the concentration camps at Zwodau and Falkenau in the present day Czech Republic.
Home from the war, Jim entered the New York City Fire Department. He served for five years with the Mayor’s Bureau of Public Speakers for Fire Prevention and retired after 30 years with the rank of Captain.
An avid golfer, fisherman, and real estate investor, Jim moved his family to Boca Raton in 1970, where he resided until his recent death.
Jim is survived by his two sons, James C. Walsh, of Vancouver, B.C.; David M. Walsh, of Cambridge, MA. Two daughters, Kathleen Walsh-Barr, of Boca Raton, FL; Marguerite A Adelsperger, of Lake Worth, FL; and two delightful granddaughters, Gemma Iaquinta Walsh ,12, and Lauren Kathleen Walsh, 8.
