MARCH 15, 1918 -- APRIL 8, 2005

EDGEWATER -- Marguerite L. Gillen, 87, of South Ridgewood Avenue, a native of the Bronx, N.Y., died Friday at home.

Mrs. Gillen, a homemaker, also had a home in West Babylon, N.Y. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Babylon.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas, Evergreen, Colo., and George, Sayville, N.Y.; three daughters, Ellen Fortner, Windemere, Diane Philp, Oviedo, and Rita Gillen, West Babylon; two sisters, Cecilia Lupinacci, Huntington, N.Y., and Marie Petri, Jackson, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Dudley, Edgewater, is in charge.

Mildred Landen

MAY 31, 1921 -- APRIL 8, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Mildred M. "Millie" Landen, 83, of North Kings Road, a resident since 1964, died Friday at Avante At Ormond Beach.

Mrs. Landen moved to this area from her birthplace, Cleveland. A 61-year bowler, she enjoyed promoting youth bowling.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Schleicher, Omrond Beach, and Vernice Cato, Cummings, Ga.; two stepsons, William Landen, Ormond Beach, and Tom Landen, Painesville, Ohio; a sister, Frances Dzioba, Daytona Beach; and a friend, Joyce Wetmore, Ormond Beach, who helped provide for her care. Hannah Cremation, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Dorothy Leavitt

OCT. 3, 1918 -- APRIL 8, 2005

ORMOND-BY-THE-SEA -- Dorothy Moore Leavitt, 86, of Surfside Drive, a native of Philadelphia, died Friday at Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial.

Mrs. Leavitt, a homemaker, moved here in 1979 from Huntingdon Valley, Pa. She was a member of Ormond Beach Union Church. She enjoyed music, musical shows and travel.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, George. Memorial donations may be made to Ormond Beach Union Church, 56 N. Beach St., Ormond Beach, FL 32174; or to the Parkinson Disease Foundation, 170 W. 168th St., New York City, NY 10032. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

George Martin

AUG. 26, 1922 -- APRIL 7, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- George P. Martin, 82, of North Halifax Avenue, who retired as vice president after 34 years of service with Guy Carpenter Reinsurance Co. in New York, died Thursday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mr. Martin, an Army veteran of World War II, moved here in 1989 from his native, Ozone Park, N.Y. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Ozone Park Holy Name Society and the Catholic War Veterans Post 369, Ozone. Mr. Martin enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Alicemarie; five daughters, Mary Ann Sines, Daytona Beach, Lori Ryan, Ozone Park, Theresa Gurecki, Lansdale, Pa., Catherine Martin-Sampson, Greeley, Colo., and Rosemarie Jensen, Ozone, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Harold O'Connor

APRIL 18, 1969 -- APRIL 8, 2005

PALM COAST -- Harold Anthony O'Connor, 35, of Cooper Lane, a painter, died Friday at Florida Hospital Flagler, after a long illness.

Mr. O'Connor was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and came here in 1998 from New York. He enjoyed motorcycles, cars, drawing, golf and shooting pool.

Survivors include his companion, Jennifer Crunk; a son, Anthony, Brooklyn; a daughter, Catherine O'Connor, Ocala; his parents, Vivian Tasman and Thomas, O'Connor, and two sisters, Bonnie Waters and Robin Tasman, all of Palm Coast; and Stephen Waters, Eileen Oswald and Dennis and Ronald O'Connor, all of who helped provide for his care. Hannah Cremation, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Michael Phillips

JAN. 4, 1934 -- APRIL 2, 2005

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Michael A. Phillips, 71, of Scrub Oak Street, an interior decorator for 25 years, died April 2 at home.

Mr. Phillips was born in Louisville, Ky., and moved to this area in 1996 from Cold Springs, Ky. He was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his companion of seven years, Billie Bucksbarg; a son, Michael, Fort Thomas, Ky.; a brother, Jim, Eustis; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Florida Hospital Memorial HospiceCare, 770 W. Granada Blvd., Suite 102, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Volusia County Cremation, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Anne Snodgrass

SEPT. 30, 1929 -- APRIL 8, 2005

PORT ORANGE -- Anne L. Snodgrass, 75, of Landis Avenue, an accountant for Vermont Gas Co., Burlington, Vt., died Friday at Hospice Care Center.

Born in Ukraine, Mrs. Snodgrass moved here in 1991 from South Burlington, Vt. She was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, the Elks Lodge and its Elkhearts and was a chaplain of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3282.

Survivors include her husband, James; a son, James; and a sister, Marie Barron, Schuylerville, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Cardwell & Maloney is in charge.

Robert Stein

DEC. 10, 1927 -- APRIL 7, 2005

PALM COAST -- Robert J. Stein, 77, of Wellwood Lane, who retired in 1997 as the owner of Marbo Truck Rentals, Kearny, N.J., died Thursday at Florida Hospital Flagler.

Mr. Stein, an Army veteran of the Korean War, was born in Newark, N.J., and came to this area in 2003 from Manasquan, N.J.

Survivors include his fiancee, Katie Lenzner, Palm Coast; two daughters, Lisa Caruso, Allenwood, N.J., and Joanne Krozser, Parsippany, N.J.; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, P.O. Box 27106, New York City, NY 10087-7106. Armitage Funeral Home, Wall Township, N.J., is in charge.

Dolores Sullivan

APRIL 13, 1938 -- APRIL 7, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Dolores Ann Sullivan, 66, of Fourth Street, an in-home health care provider, died Thursday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mrs. Sullivan was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and came here in 1980 from New York.

Survivors include a son, Jon, Silver Spring, Md.; a daughter, Barbara Sullivan, Medford, N.Y.; two brothers, Steven Budik, Holly Hill, and Richard Farnan, New Smyrna Beach; a sister, Eloise Budik, Orlando; and three grandchildren. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Donald Wise

APRIL 23, 1911 -- APRIL 9, 2005

PALM COAST -- Donald Wise, 93, of Bridgehaven Drive, who retired from Agway Petroleum, Syracuse, N.Y., died Saturday at Florida Hospital Flagler.

Born in Howard, N.Y., Mr. Wise came to this area in 1998 from Ellenton. He also formerly worked in the custodial service department at FlaglerPalm Coast and Manasota, N.Y. mail facilities. He was a member of Praise Assembly of God, Bunnell, the Elks Lodge and the New York State Democratic Election Committee. An avid Braves fan, he also enjoyed horse racing, fishing, gardening, dancing and boating.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Dorothy; two sons, William, Phoenix, and Richard, Albany, N.Y.; a daughter, Barbara Brown, Palm Coast; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Gregory Woodard

AUG. 19, 1952 -- APRIL 3, 2005

BETHESDA, Md. -- Gregory K. Woodard, 52, of Bethesda, who worked for ManTech with the U.S. State Department of Maryland, died April 3 at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda.

Mr. Woodard, an Army veteran, was born in New Smyrna Beach, and was a frequent visitor of the area. He was a member of Allen Chapel AME Church, New Smyrna Beach, and Union Bethel AME Church, Brandywine, Md. He was a graduate of New Smyrna Beach High School, the American Motorcycle Institute, Daytona Beach, and Florida A&M University.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; two sons, Shane and Chad; a daughter, Danielle Richardson; his mother, Marie Woodard, New Smyrna Beach; two brothers, James and Charles, both of Port Orange; four sisters, Corzel Lawrence and Gwendolyn Tobler, both of New Smyrna Beach, Cynthia Bryant, Miami, and Sandra Woodard, Daytona Beach; and two grandchildren. Lee Funeral Home, Clinton, Md., is in charge.

Randolph Aids

SEPT. 1, 1925 -- APRIL 7, 2005

EDGEWATER -- Randolph "Buster" Aids, 79, of Lone Pine Drive, a truck driver for Atlantic & Pacific Grocery Stores, died Thursday at home.

Mr. Aids, a Navy veteran of World War II, moved here in 1985 from Miami, his birthplace. He also was a security guard at the Miami Dade Community College, North Campus, and Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach. He was a member of the New Smyrna Beach Lodge 149 F&AM and Scottish Rite, Orlando.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Doris; a son, Thomas, Miramar; two daughters, Joanne Schleifer, Daytona Beach, and Ruth Frady, Hollywood, Fla.; two brothers, Earl, Sanford, and Emmett, Winter Haven; three sisters, Patricia Bailey, Fort Walton, Joyce Nardi, Miami, and Shirley Aids, Tampa; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Mary Bachner

APRIL 2, 1926 -- APRIL 7, 2005

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Mary Frances Erb Bachner, 79, of Waterway East, a former office manager with FridenAlcatel Mailing Equipment, Crafton, Pa., died Thursday at Sewickley Valley Hospital, Sewickley, Pa.

Mrs. Bachner, who also lived in Moon Township, Pa., was born in Pittsburgh, and has been a New Smyrna Beach resident for 15 years. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, Moon Township, Coronado Shuffle Board Court, New Smyrna Beach, and was a board member of the Waterway East Condo Association.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Anthony; two sons, David, Bethel Park, Pa., and Donald, Moon Township; four daughters, Carol Mulig, Scott Township, Pa., Judith Hughes, Oakdale, Pa., and Diane Smith, St. Louis; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Victor Bachor

SEPT. 5, 1926 -- APRIL 5, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Victor Bachor, 78, of Rockcove Court, who retired after 25 years as a bus driver with Greyhound, died Tuesday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mr. Bachor moved to this area in 1973 from Pittsburgh, his birthplace. He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Port Orange. He enjoyed golfing and fishing.
