John Doyle

MARCH 27, 1958 -- JAN. 11, 2005

DELAND -- John Charles "Chuck" Doyle, 46, of Alligator Road, a manager at All Quality Lumber, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital DeLand.

Mr. Doyle was a native and lifelong resident of DeLand. He enjoyed hunting, horseback riding and stock car racing.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra; two daughters, Summer and Misty Doyle, both of DeLand; and a brother, Frank Doyle, DeLeon Springs. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Eloise Drayton

DEC. 3, 1918 -- JAN. 10, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Eloise Drayton, 86, of West Patrick Circle, a retired food service manager, died Monday at home.

Mrs. Drayton was born in Sandersville, Ga., and moved to this area in 1971 from New York City. She was a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church and Usher Board No. 2. Mrs. Drayton enjoyed playing cards and entertaining.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jo West, Daytona Beach; and 13 grandchildren. Thompson is in charge.

Jean Emery

OCT. 6, 1938 -- JAN. 11, 2005

DELTONA -- Jean A. Emery, 66, of Saxon Boulevard, a former city clerk of Orange City, died Tuesday at Alliance Community Center for Health Care, DeLand.

Mrs. Emery was born in Mexico, Maine, and moved to this area in 1979 from Rumford, Maine. She also was employed as an administrative assistant. Mrs. Emery attended Deltona Alliance Church, and enjoyed gardening and making scrapbooks.

Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Ronald; four sons, Ronald Emery Jr., Osteen, John Emery, Allentown, N.H., John McClune, Thomasville, Ga., and Timothy McClune, Hereford, Ariz.; four daughters, Kathleen Cole, Deltona, Maryellen Markley, Honolulu, Paula Solemene, Lymn, Conn., and Roseanne Palumbo, Oxford, Mass.; her mother, Evelyn Kidder, Deltona; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to The Gideon's International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800; or to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129; or to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Shirley Fauntleroy

DEC. 19, 1940 -- JAN. 11, 2005

DELTONA -- Shirley Maxine Fauntleroy, 64, of Tivoli Drive, a former sales assistant with CBS Television, died Tuesday at home.

Mrs. Fauntleroy was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and moved to this area in 1989 from Queens, N.Y. She also was a dance instructor at the African American Museum of the Arts. Mrs. Fauntleroy was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Deltona, the National Council of Negro Women, Deltona Chapter, Deltona Garden Club, Purple Tea Club, NAACP West Volusia Branch and the West Volusia Chorus. She was a graduate of Manhattan Community College.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Jr.; two sons, Thomas III and Barry, both of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Jennifer Crowley, Morristown, N.J.; his mother, Virginia Hall, Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, Larry Jackson, ; six sisters, Jean Elliott and Yvonne Jackson, both of Plantation, Joyce Jenkins, Alabama, Joan Jackson, Newark, N.J., and Jacqueline and Esmerelda Jackson, ; and seven grandchildren. Arthur Mack is in charge.

Wayne Hamlin

MAY 29, 1940 -- JAN. 11, 2005

DELAND -- Wayne Thomas Hamlin, 64, of Robin Court, a marine mechanic for Hontoon Marina, died Tuesday at home.

Mr. Hamlin, an Army veteran, was born in Berwin, Md. He moved to this area in 1983 from West Palm Beach.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mary; two sons, Al, DeLand, and Paul, Longwood; and five grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Rodeheaver Boys Ranch, 380 Boys Ranch Road, Palatka, FL 32177. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Clyde Houck

JAN. 5, 1904 -- JAN. 11, 2005

DELTONA -- Clyde Francis Houck, 101, of Arrow Terrace, a retired general pipeline inspector for Ohio Fuel Gas Co., Columbus, Ohio, and Columbia Gas System, Charleston W.Va., and Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday at DeBary Manor, DeBary.

Mr. Houck was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, and moved to this area in 1985 from New Albany, Ohio. He was a member of Deltona Lakes Baptist Church, the American Baptist Men's Fellowship, Columbus, and the Gas Company Retirees. He enjoyed football, baseball, fishing, swimming, hunting and gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Rodney, Sarasota, and Donald, Rock Hill, S.C.; a daughter, Marlyn White, Deltona; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Walter Humphrey Jr.

SEPT. 19, 1955 -- JAN. 10, 2005

DELEON SPRINGS -- Walter Thomas Humphrey Jr., 49, of Oakside Meadow Lane, a farrier, died Monday at home.

Mr. Humphrey was born in Stamford, Conn., and moved to this area in 1989 from Connecticut. He was a member of Pierson Saddle Club and the Dixie Paint Horse Club.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Kimberly; a daughter, Meaghan Humphrey, Fairfield, Conn.; his father, Walter, Stockbridge, Vt.; and a brother Scott, Stamford. Brian Johnson

NOV. 15, 1947 -- JAN. 11, 2005

DEBARY -- Brian Andrew Johnson, 57, of Valencia Road, the director of utilities for two years with the city of Umatilla, died Tuesday at home.

Mr. Johnson, a Navy veteran, was born in Massachusetts. He was a member of the DeBary Library Association and the Maitland Rotary Club. He was creative and enjoyed fixing things.

Survivors include his wife, Susan; a daughter, Jennifer Johnson, his mother, Elsie Johnson, and a sister, Pauline Johnson, all of DeBary. Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home Oaklawn Chapel, Sanford, is in charge.

Warren Long

OCT. 16, 1923 - JAN. 10, 2005

NEW SMYRNA BEACH - Warren Y. Long, 81, of Oliver Drive, the owner of Warren's Grove who was known as the "Orange Man, " died Monday at home.

A native of Glen St. Mary, Mr. Long was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Battle of the Bulge. After he moved here in 1963 from his birthplace, he developed a citrus grove at his Oliver Estates home which he still operated until his death. Mr. Long formerly worked as a crane operator and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 673. A 32nd Degree Mason and Bahia Shriner, he also was a member of the Florida Citrus Growers Association. Mr. Long enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, stock car racing, baseball and playing neighborhood card games on Saturday evenings.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Beatrice; a son, Warren Eugene, New Smyrna Beach; four daughters, Brenda Thoburn, Daytona Beach, Judith Flanders, Atlanta, Sylvia Rasoulpour, Savannah, Ga., and Nancy Henry, Torrance, Calif.; a brother, Johnnie, Macclenny; two sisters, Mary Harris, Macclenny, and Bill Willis, Callahan; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129; or to the Bahia Shiner's Crippled Children's Hospital, 12502 N. Phillip McKune

JAN. 30, 1952 -- JAN. 4, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Phillip McKune, 52, of South Ridgewood Avenue, a native of McMinnville, Ore., died Jan. 4 at Halifax Medical Center.

Survivors include three sons, Andre, Phillip Jr., and James, and a daughter Melissa. NewLife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Patricia Milholland

OCT. 28, 1955 -- JAN. 10, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Patricia Stewart Milholland, 49, of Golfview Avenue, a former director of the Arnette House and Administrator of Family Service, died Monday at home.

Mrs. Milholland was born in Chambersburg, Pa., and moved to this area in 1998 from Titusville. She was a graduate of Nova Southeastern University, with a master degree in science.

Survivors include her husband, Steven; a son, Matt, Titusville; two daughters, Sirena Seaborn, Jacksonville, Ark., and Cassie Quezada, Russellville, Ariz.; her mother, Jacqueline Stewart, Chambersburg; two brothers, Tyrone and Roland, both of Pennsylvania; and six grandchildren. Phoebe Rebholtz

DEC. 25, 1921 -- JAN. 8, 2005

PORT ORANGE -- Phoebe Rebholtz, 83, of York Way, a retired secretary for the federal government in Washington, D.C., died Saturday at Daytona Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Rebholtz was a native of Portage, Pa.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Alfred; and a son, David, Mundy's Corner, Pa. Jean Kinley Funeral Home, Portage, Pa., is in charge.

Mizelle Thigpen

APRIL 11, 1916 -- JAN. 11, 2005

DELTONA -- Mizelle Thigpen, 88, of Goodrich Drive, a native of Lakeland, died Tuesday at Orange City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, DeBary.

Mrs. Thigpen, a former secretary, moved here in 1995 from Lake City.

Survivors include a sister, Eva Hale, Deltona; a niece, Dawn Steward, Winter Park, and two great-nieces, Heather Morris, Arlington, Va., and Meghan Steward, Winter Park, all of whom provided for her care. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Rubye Valaer

MARCH 1, 1923 -- JAN. 10, 2005

WILBUR-BY-THE-SEA -- Rubye Leah Valaer, 81, of South Atlantic Avenue, a resident since 1975, died Monday at a restaurant in Daytona Beach Shores.

Born in Cuthburt, Ga., Mrs. Valaer, a homemaker, came to this area from Washington, D.C. She was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Port Orange, and Wilbert Improvement Association.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Edward; four sons, Timothy, Deltona, Charles, Valencia, Calif., John, Riverdale, Md., and Edward, Ashburn, Va.; a daughter, Nancy Notargiacomo, Crofton, Md.; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Shannon Maloney, Port Orange, is in charge.
