Laurie Hamdan

OCT. 14, 1963 -- DEC. 6, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Laurie Ann Hamdan, 41, of Caramel Avenue, a native of Providence, R.I., died Monday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mrs. Hamdan moved here from Rhode Island in 2001. She was a phlebotomist who worked at both Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach and Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial. She was a member of the Eagles and enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include a son, Kevin, Port Orange; her father, Ronald Testa, Rhode Island; her brother, Thomas Raynard, South Carolina; a sister, Lisa Testa, Rhode Island; and a friend, Debbie Perkins, Port Orange, who provided for her care. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Joe Heavener

JUNE 23, 1966 -- DEC. 5, 2004

MIAMI BEACH -- Joe Heavener, 38, of Miami Beach, the son of New Smyrna Beach resident Sara Heavener, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Heavener was born in Edgewater and was a computer consultant.

Additional survivors include his spouse of seven years, Slater; three children, Falan, Fairah and Adam, all of Miami Beach; five brothers, Butch, Eddie, Bob, Don and Roy, all of Volusia County. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Norma Meloon

DEC. 6, 1920 -- DEC. 3, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Norma Meloon, 83, of Westlake Drive, who retired in 1990 as a secretary for Christian Duplications in Winter Park, died Friday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

A native of Eustis, Mrs. Meloon was a member of Orange City Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Ester Woodford, Eustis, and Louise Osborne, Lutz. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Bruce Minnig

JAN. 1, 1933 -- DEC. 3, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Bruce I. Minnig, 71, of Bay Pines Court, who retired as a store manager in 1966 from the Ben Franklin Variety Store in Tremont, Pa., died Friday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on State Road 40.

Mr. Minnig moved from Tremont, his birthplace, to this area in 1973. He resided in Daytona Beach Shores for many years before relocating to Ormond Beach. Mr. Minnig was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Tremont. He enjoyed gardening, woodcrafts and walking on the beach.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Jr., Port Orange, and Brian, Daytona Beach; two daughters, Trudy Casey, Ormond Beach, and Lori Casey, Deltona; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Stewart Marchman Center, 986 Tiger Bay Road, Daytona Beach, FL 32124. Haigh-Black is in charge.

Kennon Morris

DEC. 16, 1917 -- DEC. 7, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Kennon A. Morris, 86, of Warren Avenue, a retired supervisor of the Liquid Propellant Systems Maintenance Department of Boeing International at Kennedy Space Center, died Tuesday Bert Fish Medical Center.

Mr. Morris was born in Surrency, Ga., and moved here in 1926 from Appling County, Ga. A 1935 graduate of the former Live Oak High School, he also was a boilermaker for Florida East Coast Railway at the New Smyrna Beach station for 23 years. Mr. Morris enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Martha; three sons, Phillip and Marco, both of New Smyrna Beach, and Kevin, Port Orange; a daughter, PollyAnne Foster, Edgewater; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Dudley, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Erman Murray

JAN. 29, 1918 -- DEC. 6, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Erman Eugene Murray, 86, of Boylston Avenue, a native of Ocoee, died Monday at Regency House Skilled Nursing Facility.

Mr. Murray, an Army veteran of World War II, was a firefighter in Daytona Beach for 25 years before his retirement. He was awarded the American Defense Service, Pacific Operations and Good Conduct medals.

Survivors include two sister-in-laws, Phyllis Gee and Elva Parker, both of New Jersey, both of whom provide for his care. Memorial donations may be made to Daytona Beach Fire and Police Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 10586, Daytona Beach, FL 32120. Baggett & Summers is in charge.

Barbara Nelson

SEPT. 24, 1923 -- DEC. 6, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Barbara K. Nelson, 81, of Williamsburg Place, a native of Laconia, N.H., died Monday at home.

Mrs. Nelson, a homemaker, moved here in the 1980s from Belmont, N.H. She enjoyed making jewelry, Christmas ornaments and reading.

Survivors include two sons, LeRoy Landry, Hendersonville, N.C., and Bill Nelson, North Sandwich, N.H.; three daughters, Holly Ellman, Benbrook, Texas, Mary Savner, Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Jane Cox; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. New Life Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Florence Norton

JAN. 16, 1916 -- DEC. 5, 2005

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Florence L. Norton, 88, of Wayne Avenue, a resident since 1989, died Sunday at Bert Fish Medical Center.

Mrs. Norton was born in Fort Thomas, Ky., and moved to this area from Covington, Ky. She enjoyed water activities including jet skiing, which she did until the age of 86.

Survivors include two sons, Allen Weinberg, New Smyrna Beach, and Wayne Cunningham, Cincinnati; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Hannah Cremation, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Sim O'Quinn

FEB. 24, 1957 -- DEC. 6, 2004

PAISLEY -- Sim C. O'Quinn, 47, of Kathryn Circle, a native of Quitman, Ga., died Monday at Florida Hospital Waterman, Eustis.

Mr. O'Quinn moved to this area in 1997 from Altamonte Springs. He was the owneroperation of O'Quinn Insulation Co. He enjoyed fishing and working with wood.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Sherry; two sons, Shawn, Paisley, and Terry, Bellville, Md.; a daughter, Nikki Beasley, Paisley; his mother, Corene Dowdy O'Quinn, Orlando; four brothers, Johnny, Paisley, Wayne and Lonnie, both of Orlando, and Julian, Savannah, Ga.; five sisters, Mamie Willoughby, Paisley, Sissie Hill, Mary Waldron and Lisa Nutting, all of Orlando, and Diane Tillison, Fern Park; and seven grandchildren. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Helen Parr

DEC. 11, 1918 -- DEC. 3, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Helen Parr, 85, of Nova Road, a native of Barnum, Wis., died Friday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Ms. Parr moved to this area in 1995 from Madison, Wis. She was a retired nurse's aide. Ms. Parr was a Veteran of Foreign Wars supporter.

No known immediate relatives survive. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Everett Stewart

SEPT. 12, 1912 -- DEC. 7, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Everett Pierce Stewart, 92, of Evergreen Avenue, a native of DeLand, died Tuesday at Daytona Beach Healthy and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Stewart moved to this area in the 1970s from Delmont, Pa. He retired from Columbia Gas Company in Pennsylvania. Mr. Stewart enjoyed writing in his journal.

Survivors include a niece, Lois Fuggenthaler, Latrobe, Pa., who provided for his care. Memorial donations may be made to National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1 Hanover Park, 16633 North Dallas Parkway, Suite 600, Addison, TX 75001. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Daniel Truelove

APRIL 22, 1982 -- DEC. 4, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Daniel Truelove, 22, of Chipmunk Trail, a lifelong resident of Daytona Beach, died Saturday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Interstate 95. Mr. Truelove enjoyed off-road mudding.

Survivors include his fiancee, Heather Jenkins; a son, Nathaniel, his mother, Anne Marie, both of Port Orange; two brothers, Timothy, Port Orange, and Nathan, Jacksonville; a sister, Maren Truelove, Ormond Beach; and his paternal grandmother, Gordenia Truelove, Ontario. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

F. Ethel West

JAN. 8, 1913 -- DEC. 7, 2004

DELTONA -- F. Ethel West, 91, of West Wellington Drive, a longtime real estate agent in the Deltona area, died Tuesday at Central Florida Regional Hospital, Sanford.

Mrs. West was born in Rome, Ga., and moved here in 1972 from Long Island. She enjoyed watching old movies and basketball.

Survivors include a son, Neal, Deltona; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Elbert Brown
NOV. 11, 1923 -- DEC. 3, 2004

OCKLAWAHA -- Elbert Earl Brown, 81, of Ocklawaha, a former DeLand resident for 17 years, died Dec. 3 at home.

Mr. Brown, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Grimes, Ala. He was retired and formerly owned a professional insulator, heating and air conditioning business in Miami before moving to DeLand. Mr. Brown was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans, both in DeLand, and the International Union of Professional Insulators, Local 601, Miami.

Survivors include a son, James, Crystal River; a daughter Sharon Lopez, San Antonio, Texas; and four grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.
