Leonard Schinazi

MARCH 11, 1919 -- DEC. 5, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Leonard E. Schinazi, 85, of Grizzly Bear Path, who retired in 1985 from the automated computer department with the Los Angeles Police Department, died Sunday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mr. Schinazi, an Army Air Force veteran during World War II, was born in Chicago and came here in 1997 from Colorado. He attended Christ Presbyterian Church, was a master of the Ormond Beach Masonic Lodge and past master of the Vulcan Lodge No. 103 in Colorado. He also was a member of American Legion Post 267 and a past worthy patron of Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mildred; and two sisters, Gloria Azhderian and Regina Stark, both of California. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, International Headquarters, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1460. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Theresa Shannon

FEB. 8, 1924 -- DEC. 7, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Theresa Shannon, 80, of Nova Road, a former hotel owner in Inverness, died Tuesday at Avante At Ormond Beach.

Mrs. Shannon, a former dietician, was born in Webster, Mass., and came to this area in 1974 from Inverness. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, the Conference of Catholic Women and a past president of the Citizens for the North Peninsula.

Survivors include three sons, Michael, Ormond Beach, William, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Peter, Churchton, Md.; a daughter, Barbara Anderson, and a brother, Paul Chlapowski, both of Ormond Beach; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Eternal Word Television Network, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL 35210; or to Guillain-Barre Syndrome Foundation International, P.O. Box 262, Wynnewood, PA 19096. Volusia Memorial is in charge.

Frederick Werst

OCT. 10, 1933 -- DEC. 7, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Frederick J. Werst, 71, of May Street, a former machine operator for RAF Magnetics, died Tuesday at home.

Mr. Werst, an Army veteran, moved to this area in 1959 from Geneva, Ind., his birthplace.

Survivors include a son, James, Orange City; four daughters, Sharon Dunn, Orange City, Karen Armstrong, Deltona, Cheryl O'Neil, Darien, Ga., and Lisa Strehle, Georgia; a brother, Olen, Geneva; a sister, Rose Brown, DeLand; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, Orange City, is in charge.

Robert Whitcomb

MARCH 3, 1949 -- DEC. 7, 2004

DELAND -- Robert G. Whitcomb, 55, of McGregor Road, a former civil service worker, died Tuesday at home.

Mr. Whitcomb, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, was born in Augusta, Ga., and moved here from Hudson in 1993. He was a member of First Baptist Church of DeLand and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Carolynn; a son, Wayne, Hudson; two daughters, Kimberly Hunt, Hudson, and Charlene Whitcomb, Atlanta; his mother, Alta Whitcomb, Hudson; a brother, Kenneth, Holiday; a sister, Marlane Bradbury, Hudson; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Regina Anderson

JAN. 20, 1915 -- DEC. 4, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Regina H. Anderson, 89, of Northlake Drive, who retired as a secretary in 1975 from Northern Illinois University, died Saturday at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial.

Mrs. Anderson was born in Altoona, Pa., and moved here from Orlando in 1995. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, DeBary, the Catholic Daughters of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Republican National Committee.

Survivors include a brother, Bernard Schoch, Altamonte Springs; a sister, Agnes Dale, Altoona; and a niece, Patricia Gallagher, Springfield, Va., who provided for her care. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 300, Daytona Beach, FL 32119. Allen-Summerhill, Orange City, is in charge.

Amelia Breunlin

JAN. 21, 1928 -- DEC. 6, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Amelia Breunlin, 76, of Capri Circle, a native of Bayonne, N.J., died Monday at home.

Mrs. Breunlin moved to this area in 1955 from New Jersey. She was a bookkeeper for the Volusia County School System before her retirement in 1989. She was a 49-year member of Trinity Lutheran Church and volunteered at the Ormond Beach and Tomoka libraries, Meals on Wheels and with Halifax Urban Ministries. Mrs. Breunlin enjoyed traveling, reading, the beach, Bible studies and gardening.

Survivors include three sons, Bill, Daytona Beach, Mark, Ormond Beach, and Jim, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; a sister, Alice Eddy, Brownsville, Texas; and a grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran School Scholarship Fund, 1205 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill, FL 32117; or to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Lohman-Ormond is in charge.

Ernest Calcat

AUG. 17, 1927 -- DEC. 6, 2004

DEBARY -- Ernest Joseph Calcat, 77, of Florence Boulevard, who retired after 30 years as a plumber for Local 98 in Detroit, died Monday at Central Florida Regional Hospital, Sanford.

Mr. Calcat was born in Ontario, and moved here in 1980 from St. Claire Shores, Mich. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Ledgerwood Chapter 92, Orange City, and the Moose Lodge 655, DeBary. He also was a past treasurer of the Eagles Lodge 4201, Orange City. He owned EJC's Manatee, a charm making company. Mr. Calcat enjoyed fishing and Euchre.

Survivors include his wife of 2 years, Delpha; two sons, Ernest Jr., Warren, Mich., and Mark, St. Claire, Mich.; a daughter, Lori Cerrone, Monroe, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Shelly Calcat, Mount Clemens, Mich.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

John Church

NOV. 25, 1947 -- NOV. 15, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- John Church, 56, of Espanola Avenue, a native of Worcester, Mass., died Nov. 15 from injuries sustained in an accident in Holly Hill.

Mr. Church, an Army veteran of the Vietnam war, moved to this area in 1972 from Hillcrest Heights, Md. He was a painter for 10 years with Olson Brothers Painting, Holly Hill. Mr. Church was a fan of the Florida State University Seminoles, Atlanta Braves, Washington Redskins and enjoyed stock car racing, bowling and music.

Survivors a son, Brian, Daytona Beach; a brother, Jeff, Maryland; two sisters; and his caregivers, Virginia and Skip Olson, Port Orange. New Life Cremation is in charge.

Toni Corwin

MARCH 12, 1944 -- NOV. 26, 2004

NAGS HEAD, N.C. -- Toni Legary Corwin, 60, of Nags Head, a former longtime Daytona Beach resident, died Nov. 26 at a hospital in Greenville, N.C.

Ms. Corwin, a master gardener, was born in Bennington, Vt. She attended schools and grew up in the Daytona Beach area. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church, American Civil Liberties Union, National Organization for Women, Poverty Law Center, National Steering Committee and volunteered at the Elizabeth Gardens in Manteo, N.C.

Survivors include two sons, Ander Corwin, New Smyrna Beach, and Bill Brick, Anaheim, Calif.; two daughters, Kim Weatherspoon and Jill Brick, both of New Smyrna Beach; her mother, Paula Sims, and two sisters, Pam and Janice Sims, all of Melbourne; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo, is in charge.

Raymond DeVore

MAY 1, 1925 -- DEC. 7, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Raymond Wilbur DeVore, 79, of Herbert Street, a native of Chicago, died Tuesday at Port Orange Nursing and Rehabilitative Center.

Mr. DeVore, a Navy veteran of World War II, moved to this area in 1978 from Union Grove, Wis. He was a real estate broker. Mr. DeVore enjoyed chess and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

Survivors include a son, Raymond, Union Grove; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Alavon Direct Cremation is in charge.

Marie Dowd

SEPT. 14, 1930 -- NOV. 30, 2004

KINGSTON, N.H. -- Marie F. Dowd, 74, of Kingston, a former seasonal Daytona Beach resident, died Nov. 30 at Jacksonville Florida Community Hospice.

Ms. Dowd was born in North Andover, Mass., and later moved to New Hampshire. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, New Smyrna Beach.

Survivors include her husband, Martin; two sons, Michael, Stuart, and Matthew, Eagle, Colo.; three daughters, Maura Eastman, Danville, N.H., Mary Dupuis, Pelham, N.H., and Margaret Coish, Windham, N.H.; two brothers, Michael Broderick, Windham, and Peter Broderick, Kingston; five sisters, Rhoda Weston, Jacksonville, Lissa Archer, Hampstead, N.H., Jane Teichert and Lois Cushing, both of North Andover, and Frances Broderick, Rego Park, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to Broderick Scholarship Fund co North Andover Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 542, North Andover, MA 01845. Eternity Funeral Home, Jacksonville, is in charge.

Fred Drugan

DEC. 12, 1933 -- DEC. 3, 2004

DELTONA -- Fred Tracy Drugan, 70, of Sherbrook Drive, a retired cost analyst who worked on the government's Star Wars program, died Friday at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mr. Drugan, an Army veteran, was born in Columbus, Ohio, and moved here from San Diego in 1999. He was a graduate of Xavier University, Cincinnati, where he was a member of the debate team and captain of the cheerleading squad. Mr. Drugan enjoyed flying small aircraft.

Survivors include a brother, Charles, Kentucky; and a nephew, Pat Boyhan, Orlando, who provided for his care. Altman-Long, DeBary, is in charge.

Miguel Gonzalez

MAY 15, 1932 -- DEC. 6, 2004

DELTONA -- Miguel Angel Gonzalez, 72, of Landover Avenue, a retired shipping clerk, died Monday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Gonzalez, an Army veteran of the Korean War, was born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, and came here in 1994 from Stamford, Conn. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Felicita; a son, Michael, Stamford; a daughter, Ednalisa Gonzalez, Puerto Rico; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.
