Dorothy Ricci

AUG. 4, 1924 -- AUG. 28, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Dorothy Elizabeth Ricci, 80, of Half Moon Drive, the former owneroperator of Dottie D's Sportswear, Somerset, Mass., died Saturday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Ricci was born in Fall River, Mass., and moved here in 1994 from Jensen Beach. She was a member of Sacred Heart Baptist Church, New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater Landings Women's Club. She enjoyed bowling and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Robert Dibling Jr., Port Orange; three stepsons, Remi Ricci, Marysville, Wash., Gerald Ricci, Tequesta, and Anthony Ricci, Hopewell, Va.; a stepdaughter, Joelle Morgan, Lutz; a brother, Russell Hague, Fall River; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Margaret Dibling, Port Orange, who provided for her care. Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson's Research, Mayo Clinic, 4500 San Pablo Road, Jacksonville, FL 32207. Baldwin Brothers, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Charles Stover III

JUNE 20, 1934 -- AUG. 29, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Charles William Stover III, 70, of Martha Drive, a retired painter, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Stover, a Navy veteran, was born in Washington, D.C., and moved here in 1990 from Suitland, Md. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Charles IV, Fort Walton, and James, North Carolina; two daughters, Linda Barbour, Daytona Beach, and Janie Baker, King George, Va.; a sister, Barbara Shaner, Inverness; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Alfonso Williams Jr.

JUNE 16, 1955 -- AUG. 29, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Alfonso Williams Jr., 49, of George Street, a native of Miami, died Sunday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mr. Williams, a member of New Life Church Ministries, Holly Hill, moved here in 1975 from Fort Myers.

Survivors include seven brothers, Colin, Lorenzo, Ron and Tyrone Williams, all of Atlanta; Corey, Orlando, John, Jacksonville, and Otis, Arcadia; and four sisters, Claire Williams, Daytona Beach, and Gayle and Alondra Williams and Diane Stewart, all of Atlanta. Gainous is in charge.

Norma Barta

JAN. 19, 1954 -- AUG. 24, 2004

DELTONA -- Norma Jean Barta, 50, of Clearfield Street, a bartender and waitress, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mrs. Barta was born in Salem, N.J., and came to this area in 1959 from Elmer, N.J. She enjoyed the beach, boating, horses and watching television.

Survivors include her husband of 16 years, John; two sons, Brandon, Deltona, and Justin, Virginia; a daughter, Nichole Barta, Virginia; and a sister, Dawn Hanssler, Jonesboro, Ark. Altman-Long, DeBary, is in charge.

Michael Berg

MARCH 5, 1949 -- AUG. 24, 2004

DELTONA -- Michael Edward Berg, 55, of Roberts Boulevard, a former custodian for the Canton (Conn.) School System, died Tuesday at home.

Mr. Berg was born in Hartford, Conn., and moved to this area in 2002 from Canton. He enjoyed small engine repair, stock car racing and the University of Connecticut women's basketball team.

Survivors include a brother, William Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two sisters, Janice Teri-Savage, Deltona, and Patricia Shaw, Portsmouth, N.H. Altman-Long, DeBary, is in charge.

James Briggs

OCT. 22, 1914 -- AUG. 25, 2004

ASTOR -- James Norman "Chick" Briggs, 89, of Fifth Street, an electronic systems specialist at a Naval air station, died Wednesday at home.

A native of Bellaire, Ohio, Mr. Briggs moved here from Jacksonville in 1989. A member of First Baptist Church of Astor and the Scottish Rite, he also was a Shriner and 32nd degree mason.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; two sons, Michael, Dacula, Ga., and Jack, Broken Arrow, Okla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of LakeSumter, 12300 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778. Beyers, Astor, is in charge.

J. Charlotte Harrigan

OCT. 29, 1917 -- AUG. 26, 2004

ENTERPRISE -- J. Charlotte Harrigan, 86, of Braddock Road, a former administrative assistant in the banking industry, died Thursday at Majestic Oaks, Orange City.

A native of Albion, N.Y., Mrs. Harrigan moved here from New York in 1982. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, DeBary.

Survivors include a son, Michael, Enterprise; two sisters, Celia Keeler and Elizabeth Donovan, both of Albion; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 26 Dogwood Trail, DeBary, FL 32763. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Mary McCool

MARCH 26, 1913 -- AUG. 26, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Mary Elizabeth McCool, 91, of Wedgewood Circle North, who retired as an elementary school teacher in Uniondale, N.Y., died Thursday at The Healthcare Center Of Daytona Beach Inc., Daytona Beach.

Mrs. McCool was born in Westhampton, Beach, N.Y., and came here in 1984 from Long Island, N.Y. She was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, and the Book Discussion Group. She enjoyed reading and needlework.

Survivors include a daughter, Lois Sessoms-Fennelly, Ormond Beach; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Bethune-Cookman College, co Elizabeth Stevens McCool Scholarship Fund, 640 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Dorothy Nichols

MAY 17, 1913 -- AUG. 26, 2004

FLAGLER BEACH -- Dorothy M. Nichols, 91, of Oceanshore Boulevard, native of New Haven, Conn., died Thursday at home.

Mrs. Nichols, a homemaker, moved to this area in 1980 from Pattersonville, N.Y.

Survivors include a son, Charles, Flagler Beach; a sister, Marian Martin, New Haven; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Coastal Cremation, Palm Coast, is in charge.

Jean Reid

OCT. 15, 1920 -- AUG. 26, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Jean Reid, 83, of Wilder Boulevard, a native and lifelong Daytona Beach resident, died Thursday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mrs. Reid, a retired beautician, was a graduate of Campbell High School and attended Bethune-Cookman College. She was a 50-year member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Institutional Church.

Survivors include a sister, Jeannete Weatherly, Daytona Beach. Thompson is in charge.

Florence Stout

JUNE 17, 1907 -- AUG. 23, 2004

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Florence Stout, 97, of Big Tree Road, a retired music teacher, died Monday at Manor on the Green, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Stout moved to this area in 1951 from her native Chicago. She enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include Bernice Criss, South Daytona, who provided for her care. Volusia County Cremation, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

James Boss

JULY 14, 1920 -- AUG. 24, 2004

DELTONA -- James S. Boss, 84, of Saxon Boulevard, who retired in 1962 as an assistant postmaster in Rockville, Md., died Tuesday at DeBary Manor. DeBary.

Mr. Boss, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Washington, D.C., and moved to this area in 1977 from Rockville. He worked for the Registry Division of the post office in Washington, D.C., and in the Postal Inspection Service before he became assistant postmaster. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and the Deltona Civic Association. Mr. Boss enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Helen; two sons, James Jr. and Edward, both of Deltona; five granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

A. Claude Chalfant

NOV. 21, 1915 -- AUG. 24, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A. Claude Chalfant, 88, of North Riverside Drive, manager of production planning for Copperweld Steel, Glassport, Pa., before his retirement, died Tuesday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mr. Chalfant was born in Glassport and moved here in 1973 from Pittsburgh. He was a member of Wilson Masonic Lodge No. 714, Pittsburgh Consistory and the Syria Masonic Temple. Mr. Chalfant enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, and being a handyman.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Edna; a son, Donald, Ann Arbor, Mich.; a daughter, Claudia Geary, Daytona Beach; a brother, Walter, Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Baldwin Brothers is in charge.

Timothy Cowan

NOV. 7, 1973 -- AUG. 21, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Timothy Wade Cowan, 30, of South Grandview Avenue, an area native, died Saturday at Orlando Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on State Road 46 in Lake County.

Mr. Cowan, who worked for a tree service, was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in DeLand. He enjoyed surfing, the beach and cooking.

Survivors include his companion, Chastity Myer, Apopka; his mother and stepfather, Debra and Charles Livsey, Daytona Beach; a son, Kristopher, and a daughter, Kylia Cowan, both of Holly Hill; a brother, Ronald Bishop, Daytona Beach; and his maternal grandfather, Richard Wallace, Cocoa. Newlife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.
