Mathias Jansen III

DEC. 4, 1957 -- AUG. 4, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Mathias Jacob "Matt" Jansen III, 46, of North Clyde Morris Boulevard, who worked at several area restaurants, died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mr. Jansen was born in Riverside, Mich., and moved here in 1979 from Baltimore. He was former food and beverage manager for the Hawaiian Inn and the former Riverview Charlie's, New Smyrna Beach, and a former server for Buca di Beppo. He attended Tomoka Christian Church. Mr. Jansen enjoyed soap operas, the beach, movies and travel.

Survivors include his father, Mathias Jr., Finksburg, Md.; a brother, Keith, Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Darlene Jansen, Marriottsville, Md., and Angela Jansen-Cline, England; and a friend Billy Bayne, South Daytona, who provided for his care. Memorial donations may be made to Outreach Community Care Network, 111 N. Frederick Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Domenick Pace

JUNE 18, 1931 -- AUG. 7, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Domenick Pace, 73, of Fort Smith Boulevard, a painter, died Saturday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial.

A native of Italy, Mr. Pace moved to this area in 1969 from New York. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Wilkinson; two sons, Domenick Jr., Daytona Beach, and Anthony, Mount Poconos, Pa.; his mother, Leona, and a brother, Louie, both of Atlanta; a sister, Rachael, Queens, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, 1310 Maximillian St., Deltona, FL 32725. Baldauff is in charge.

Nancy Quantz

OCT. 9, 1921 -- AUG. 6, 2004

PALM COAST -- Nancy Abele Quantz, 82, of Westchester Lane, a retired real estate associate, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Flagler.

Born in New York City, Mrs. Quantz moved here in 1984 from Meadowbrook, Pa. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, William; three sons, William Jr., Fernandina Beach, Richard, Oxford, Ohio, and David, Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Coastal Cremation is in charge.

Mary Rains

JULY 17, 1910 -- AUG. 6, 2004

PALM COAST -- Mary Katherine Winn Rains, 94, of Cottonwood Court, a resident since 1996, died Friday at home.

Ms. Rains, a homemaker, was born in Jackson, Tenn., and moved here from Deerfield. An artist, she enjoyed reading and sewing.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Rogers, Palm Coast; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Richard Royer

MARCH 10, 1923- AUG. 6, 2004

DELTONA -- Richard T. Royer, 81, of Azora Drive, a chemical engineer for Thiokol Chemical and Transamerica Delaval, both of Trenton, N.J., before his retirement, died Friday at home.

Mr. Royer was born in Trenton and moved here in 1984 from Hamilton, N.J. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Deltona Hills Golf & Country Club, the Elks Lodge in Bordentown, N.J., and Zeta Psi Fraternity of North America. He attended Rutgers University.

Survivors include two sons, Greg, Trenton, and Rick, Newtown, Pa.; a daughter, Janis English, Newtown, and Marsha Zelley, New Hope, Pa.; and five grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Earl Sisk

MARCH 3, 1919 -- AUG. 4, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Earl N. Sisk, 85, of Camino Real Drive, an electrician who worked for the U.S. government at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., before his retirement, died Wednesday at home.

Mr. Sisk was born in Charleston, Mo., and moved here in 1988 from Capitol Heights, Md.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; six sons, Earl Jr., Daytona Beach Shores, Donald, Daytona Beach, Ronald, Ann Arbor, Mich., Larry, Peachtree City, Ga., Richer, Lothian, Md., and Dwayne, Churchville, N.Y.; three daughters, Bonita Shepherd, Solomon's Island, Md., Melinda Wood, Temple Hills, Md., and Mary Chavez, San Antonio; and three stepsons, Irvan Owens Jr., and Marvin and Paul Owens, and a stepdaughter, Cindy Hannah, all of New Smyrna Beach. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Baldwin Brothers, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Rosie Bluni

DEC. 18, 1984 -- AUG. 26, 2004

DELTONA -- Rosie V. Bluni, 19, of Hartley Lane, a native of Sanford, died Thursday at home from a sudden illness.

Ms. Bluni was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Community.

Survivors include her father, Antonino Bluni, North Plainfield, N.J.; and her mother, Vincenza Bluni, a brother, Luigi Bluni, and a sister, Concetta Davis, all of Deltona. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Fred Brazina

OCT. 24, 1914 -- AUG. 27, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Fred Joseph Brazina, 89, of Queen Palm Drive, chief engineer for the Falls Township (Pa.) Sewer and Water Authority before his retirement, died Friday at Ocean View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Brazina was born in Trenton, N.J., and moved here in 1981 from Morrisville, Pa. He was a 33rd degree Mason and a member of the Trenton Shrine Club, Scottish Rite, Tall Cedars of Trenton and Rotary Club of MorrisvilleYardley, Pa. Mr. Brazina was a graduate of Riker College, Trenton. An avid bicyclist, he enjoyed watching football and baseball and swimming.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Esther; two sons, Fred Jr., Germansville, Pa., and Bruce, Tacoma, Wash.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Cripple Children, 12502 N. Pine Drive, Tampa, FL 33612. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Harold Creticos

SEPT. 14, 1919 -- AUG. 28, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Harold P. Creticos, 84, of Cypress Circle, a teacher of Latin, Spanish and history at Mainland High School before he retired, died Saturday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mr. Creticos moved here in 1958 from his native Charleston, S.C. He was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, the St. Demetrios VIP Club and Order of AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association), and a former member of the Masons and Lions Club. He graduated from the College of Charleston. Mr. Creticos wrote inspirational articles for the church newsletter and enjoyed playing poker and good jokes.

Survivors include his wife Lula; a son, Harold, Ormond Beach; two daughters, Victoria Kaniaris, Ormond Beach, and Pamela Klonaris, Nassau, Bahamas; two brothers, Angelo, Chicago, and Socrates, Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Anna Mamalakis, Savannah, Ga.; and eight grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to AHEPA Scholarship Fund, co St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 129 N. Halifax Drive, Daytona Beach, FL 32118. Lohman-Ormond is in charge.

Sarah Guttery

SEPT. 30, 1917 -- AUG. 29, 2004

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. -- Sarah Louis Guttery, 86, of Young Harris, a resident of Daytona Beach from 1920 to 1983, died Sunday at Clay County Care Center, Hayesville, N.C.

Mrs. Guttery moved to Daytona Beach in 1920 from her native Olive Hill, Ky. She worked for Southern Bell in Daytona Beach until her retirement in 1978.

Survivors include two sons, Michael, Young Harris, and Patrick, Orlando; a daughter, Rachael Shroyer, Palm Coast; and three grandchildren. Townson Rose Funeral Home, Hayesville, is in charge.

Russell Kleiser

JAN. 1, 1920 -- AUG. 28, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Russell Jacob Kleiser, 84, of Evergreen Street, a production leader with Bristol MyersSquibb Corp. before he retired, died Saturday at Ocean View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Kleiser, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Lebanon, Pa., and moved here in 1982 from Edison, N.J. He was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dorothy; three sons, Bruce, New Smyrna Beach, Russell, Wisconsin, and Roger, Cape May, N.J.; a daughter, Darilyn Buchanan, Clermont; and seven grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

James Park Jr.

MAY 26, 1920 -- AUG. 28, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- James Park Jr., 84, of Justice Street, a manager for New York Telephone Co., Syracuse, N.Y., before his retirement, died Saturday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Park, a Navy veteran of World War II, moved here in 1984 from his native Syracuse. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jean; three sons, Charles, Port Orange, and James and Robert, both of Lexington, Ky.; two daughters, Joanne Paulman, Dallas, and Eileen Park, Florence, Ky.; and five grandchildren. Cardwell & Maloney is in charge.

Edith Reese

AUG. 19, 1916 -- AUG. 29, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Edith O. "Hepzi" Reese, 88, of Ocean Drive, a resident since 1953, died Sunday at Ocean View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Reese, a homemaker, was born in Fort Pierre, S.D., and moved to this area from Sioux Falls, S.D. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority, the Florida Society for Crippled Children; and International Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled. Mrs. Reese attended the University of South Dakota.

Survivors include her husband, Montana. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Baldwin Brothers is in charge.
