Theresa Ciardulli

AUG. 9, 1913 -- JULY 31, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Theresa R. Ciardulli, 90, of Victoria Gardens Boulevard, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Saturday at Hospice Care Center.

Mrs. Ciardulli moved here in 1961 from her birthplace. She was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, where she was active in many organizations, including the Deanery, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Survivors include two nieces, Theresa Pilosi, East Brunswick, N.J., and Margo Antonoff, Brooklyn, who provided for her care. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Cardwell & Maloney is in charge.

Robert Du Haime

FEB. 12, 1932 -- JULY 31, 2004

PALM COAST -- Robert J. Du Haime, 72, of Flemington Lane, a resident since 1990, died Saturday at home.

Mr. Du Haime, an Army veteran of the Korean War, was born in Englewood, N.J., and moved here from Mountain Top, Pa. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8696. Mr. Du Haime enjoyed real estate, the stock market, politics and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Agnes; three sons, Robert, Towson, Md., Thomas, Danville, Calif., and Russell, San Francisco; three daughters, Linda Johnstone, Medford, N.J., Cynthia Bauer, Ewing, N.J., and Nancy Layton, Marlton, N.J.; two brothers, Edmund, Hillsdale, N.J., and Richard, Bloomingdale, N.J.; and nine grandchildren. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Joyce Durden-Long

JAN. 23, 1937 -- JULY 29, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Joyce Ann Durden-Long, 67, of School Street, a native and lifelong resident, died Thursday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mrs. Durden-Long, who worked at Indigo Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center before her retirement, attended the former Campbell Street High School.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Banks, her mother, Phyllis Nattiel, and a sister, Patricia Banks, all of Daytona Beach; a grandchild; and Charles Madison, Daytona Beach, who provided for her care. Gainous is in charge.

Annice Jaber

FEB. 19, 1912 -- JULY 30, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Annice "AJ" Jaber, 92, of Avenue J, a resident since 1975, died Friday at home.

Mr. Jaber moved here from his native Fond du Lac, Wis., where he owned the 101 Club, a steakhouse. An avid golfer, he was a charter member of Indigo Country Club and its Men's Golf Association.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty; a son, William, Waupaca, Wis.; two daughters, Carol Johnson and Ellen Kogo, both of New York City; and a grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129; or Ted Hoyer Charitable Trust, 16 Camelot Drive, Oak Brook, IL 60521. Donald La Flamme

NOV. 14, 1936 -- JULY 30, 2004

DELTONA -- Donald C. La Flamme, 67, of Tranquil Lane, who retired as a chief petty officer after 27 years in the Navy, died Friday at Central Florida Regional Hospital, Sanford.

Mr. La Flamme, a native of Duluth, Minn., was a member of American Legion Post No. 1982. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

Survivors include a son, Jean-Pierre La Flamme, Duluth; three daughters, Laura Ellenbecker, Deltona, Christine Parker, Palm Harbor, and Darcie La Flamme, Duluth; his mother, Lucille La Flamme, Duluth; a brother, Roger, Canyon, Minn.; two sisters, Mary Margaret Zengal, Duluth, and Louann La Flamme, Minneapolis; and eight grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to National Wildlife Federation, 11100 Wildlife Center Drive, Reston, VA 20190-5362. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Gladys Stephenson

FEB. 28, 1913 -- AUG. 1, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Gladys A. Stephenson, 91, of Sixth Street, who worked in an office and in public relations before her retirement, died Sunday at home.

Mrs. Stephenson moved here in 1990 from her native DeWitt, Ark. She was a member of Riverbend Community Baptist Church and a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of DeWitt. She also was a member and past president of the DeWitt Mother's Club and DeWitt Study Club, along with several other civic organizations. Mrs. Stephenson enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include a son, Charles, Plover, Wis.; a sister, Florence Fabian, Ormond Beach; and a grandchild. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Kenneth Brenton

NOV. 25, 1907 -- JULY 29, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Kenneth L. Brenton, 96, of South Beach Street, a former English silversmith, died Thursday at Regency House Skilled Nursing Facility.

Mr. Brenton was born in Wallingford, Conn., and moved here in 1977 from Southington, Conn. He attended Grace Baptist Church and was a member of the Masons. Mr. Brenton enjoyed travel.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Amanda Charles

JULY 17, 1998 -- JULY 26, 2004

Taina Charles

OCT. 2, 1993 -- JULY 27, 2004

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Amanda Charles, 6, of Brooklyn, died Monday at Martin Memorial Hospital-South, Stuart, and her sister, Taina Charles, 10, also of Brooklyn, a former student at Deltona Lakes Elementary School, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Medical Center, West Palm Beach, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on I-95 in Martin County. The girls' grandparents, Deltona residents Osse and Anne Marie Moliere, also died in the accident.

Amanda was born in Brooklyn and was a kindergarten student at Public School 114. She enjoyed reading and dancing. Taina was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and recently graduated from the fifth grade at the same school

The sisters' survivors include their parents, Jean and Marie Gina Charles, brothers, Wesley and Steve Charles, and Amanda's twin sister, Samantha, all of Brooklyn; and their paternal grandmother, Marie Therese Charles, Haiti Memorial donations may be made to Love A Child, P.O. Elva Cooper

OCT. 21, 1907- JULY 20, 2004

BURNSVILLE, N.C. -- Elva Leona McEwen Cooper, 96, of Burnsville, a former long-time resident of Daytona Beach and Holly Hill, died Friday at Mountain Manor, Burnsville.

Mrs. Cooper, who formerly worked for Mac's Electric and Wolfe's Electric, both in South Daytona, was born in Lochloosa. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Anne Conibear, Reno, Nev., and Kay Pallett, Hernando; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Wilson Furr

JUNE 6, 1946 -- JULY 31, 2004

HUDSON -- Wilson Norman Furr, 58, of Hudson, the brother of Astor resident Mary West, died Saturday at his sister's home in Astor.

An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Furr, a high school teacher, was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints.

Additional survivors include his parents, Brigham and Evelyn Furr, Lake Wales; and a sister, Sally Wildmon, Winter Haven. Florence Haas

MARCH 21, 1929 -- JULY 31, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Florence N. Haas, 75, of John Anderson Drive, a former entertainment editor for the Miami Beach Sun Reporter, died Saturday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Haas, who also was a former office manager for a real estate business, moved here in 1972 from Miami Beach. She was a member of Temple Beth-El and graduated from the School of Merchandising in New York. Mrs. Haas enjoyed gourmet cooking.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Donald; a son, Frank, Holly Hill; a daughter, Sally Beninati, Ormond Beach; and a brother, Leslie Navran, the Bronx, N.Y. Mercedes Negron

MARCH 14, 1928 -- JULY 30, 2004

DELTONA -- Mercedes Negron, 76, of English Drive, a native of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mrs. Negron, a homemaker, moved here in 2001 from Fort Lauderdale. She was a member of St. Clare Catholic Community. Mrs. Negron enjoyed cooking, watching Spanish-language soap operas and playing dominoes.

Survivors include three sons, Reynaldo Gonzalez, Deltona, and Jose and William Gonzalez, both of the Bronx, N.Y.; two daughters, Miriam Navarro, Deltona, and Maria Ghigliotty, Milford, Pa.; a brother, Augustine Ortiz, Puerto Rico; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Andrew Valko

AUG. 23, 1925 -- JULY 30, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Andrew Cyril Valko, 78, of North Sparkman Avenue, who owned and operated the DeLand Motel and the South Daytona Golf Den, died Friday at home.

Mr. Valko, a Navy veteran of World War who took part in the D-Day invasion of Omaha Beach, was born in Plainfield, N.J., and moved here in 1974 from Shelton, Conn. He also was a self-employed carpenter and woodworker. Mr. Valko was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, DeBary, the DeLand Chamber of Commerce, the West Volusia Amphibious Club and the U.S. Landing Ship Tank Association.

Survivors include a son, Andrew II, Deltona; two daughters, Andrea Seymour, Orange City, and Audrey Dickinson, Winter Park; a sister, Elizabeth Alessie, Stratford, Conn.; and six grandchildren.
