Linda Dittman

OCT. 6, 1944 -- AUG. 4, 2004

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Linda Etheredge Dittman, 59, of Chicago Avenue, a native of Selma, Ala., died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Dittman, a homemaker, moved here in 1960 from her birthplace. She was a 1964 graduate of Mainland High School. Her hobbies were spending time with her grandchildren and bowling.

Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Robert; a son, Boo, Port Orange; a daughter, Tammy Liles, Daytona Beach; her parents, Nellie and Sam Etheredge, South Daytona; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Port Orange Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 840 Taylor Road, Port Orange, FL 32127. Baggett & Summers, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Dennis Fruhwirth

JAN. 23, 1946 -- AUG. 3, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Dennis A. Fruhwirth, 58, of Sabal Hammock Circle, who worked with communications in the finance department for Lockheed Martin, died Tuesday at home.

Mr. Fruhwirth was born in Allentown, Pa., and came to this area in 2001 from Rockville, Md. An avid fly fisherman, he was a member of Mid Coast Fly Fishers, Daytona Beach, and Friends Creek Anglers Association, Washington, D.C.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Mary Lou; two sons, Dennis, Winter Springs, and Stephen, Portland, Ore.; his parents, Stephen and Cecelia Fruhwirth, Allentown; a sister, Kathleen Bartlett, Whitehall, Pa.; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Metro DC Chapter, 6917 Arlington Road, Bethesda, MD 20814. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Frances Henry

MARCH 19, 1924 -- AUG. 5, 2004

DELTONA -- Frances Henry, 80, of Madura Drive, a native of Newark, N.J., died Thursday at home.

Mrs. Henry, a homemaker, formerly worked as a tax counselor with AARP, a long distance operator for Bell Telephone Co. and a cashier for the NaplesFort Myers Greyhound Racetrack. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, AARP, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Elks Auxiliary. She also was a Grey Lady volunteer for Key West Naval Hospital.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Walter; and a sister, Mary Scholl, Malvern, Pa. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Mary Luebbers

AUG. 19, 1926 -- AUG. 4, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Mary Jean Luebbers, 77, of North Riverside Drive, a retired pharmacist, died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

A native of Cincinnati, Mrs. Luebbers earned her pharmacy degree from the University of Cincinnati. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Fresh Start Group. Mrs. Luebbers enjoyed arts and crafts, reading and genealogy.

Survivors include three sons, Michael, Tustin, Calif., Steven, Columbus, Ohio, and Christopher, Chesapeake, Va.; three daughters, Charon Luebbers, New Smyrna Beach, Kathleen Kidwell, Richfield, Ohio, and Gail Huber, Cincinnati; a brother, William Walsh, Cold Springs, Ky.; and nine grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 300, Daytona Beach, FL 32119. Baldwin Brothers is in charge.

John Mazey

NOV. 21, 1919 -- AUG. 5, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- John Mazey, 84, of Dove Avenue, who retired after 10 years from Anheiser-Busch Brewery, Newark, N.J., died Thursday at Hospice Care Center.

Mr. Mazey, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and came here in 1984 from Pocono, Pa. He formerly worked for 31 years at Ballentine Brewery in Newark. He was a member of White Chapel Church of God, South Daytona, Port Orange Elks Lodge and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3282. He enjoyed bowling, dancing and travel.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Doreen Ferguson, Port Orange; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Cardwell & Maloney is in charge.

Epismenio Perez

AUG. 18, 1918 - AUG. 3, 2004

DELTONA -- The Rev. Epismenio Perez, 85, a retired minister, died Tuesday at Oakwood Garden of DeLand, DeLand.

The Rev. Perez was born in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico. He was a member of Iglesia El Buen Samaritano, Lake Mary, and was a missionary to Mexico for many years and was a pastor at a Spanish speaking mission in Fort Eustis, Va. for 22 years.

Survivors include his wife, Providencia; three daughters, Aida Misch, Mechanicsville, Md., Luisa Reigle, Sanford, and Gloria Ridgway, Delair, N.J.; a sister, Aida Perez, the Bronx, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Brisson Funeral Home, Sanford, is in charge.

Lupa Riedi

AUG. 25, 1927 -- AUG. 4, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Lupa C. Riedi, 76, of Water Turkey Court, a sales associate, died Wednesday at Daytona Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Riedi, a native of Downsville, Md., moved to this area in 1991 from Exton, Pa. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Pelican Bay Country Club and the Women's Golf Association. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Walter; two sons, Robert Deavers, Williamsport, Md., and Ronald Riedi, Bath, Pa.; a daughter, Carolyn Elgin, Waynesboro, Pa.; three brothers, Jimmy and Irwin Artz, both of Williamsport, and Robert Artz, Hagerstown, Md.; five sisters, Margaret Smith, Abington, Pa., Helen Waddington, Jenkinton, Pa., Fae Beam, Shinglehouse, Pa., Barbara Breichner, Hagerstown, and Bonnie Grenier, West Swanzey, N.H.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Howard Sanzone

MARCH 11, 1940 -- AUG. 4, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Howard C. Sanzone, 64, of Third Avenue, who was the owner of a beach wagon concession in Daytona Beach, died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Sanzone was born in New Haven, Conn., and came here in 1986 from Hamden, Conn. He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church. Mrs. Sanzone was a graduate of the University of New Haven.

Survivors include a son, Anthony, Palm Coast; a daughter, Beth, Delray Beach; his mother, Nellie Sanzone, Cheshire, Conn.; a brother, Raymond, Holliston, Mass.; and a sister, Clare Bauknecht, Winsted, Conn. Evelyn Sheperd

SEPT. 4, 1907 -- AUG. 5, 2004

PONCE INLET -- Evelyn G. Sheperd, 96, of South Atlantic Avenue, a native of Gilbertville, Mass., died Thursday at Horizon Healthcare, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Sheperd, a homemaker, moved here in 1979 from Chicopee, Mass. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and gardening.

Survivors include a son, William Jr., Belleview; two daughters, MaryLou Sheperd-Anderson, Ponce Inlet, and Lois White, Feeding Hills, Mass.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Cardwell & Maloney, Port Orange, is in charge.

Stacey Skinner

AUG. 2, 1917 -- JULY 30, 2004

TOCOMA, Wash. -- Stacey Robert Skinner, 86, an Ormond Beach resident from 1972 to 2003, died July 30 at Tacoma Lutheran Home, Tacoma.

Mr. Skinner, a retired tool maker, was born in Corry, Pa. He moved to this area from Jamestown, N.Y. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge No. 769 and a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, both of Corry. Mr. Skinner enjoyed remodeling homes, gardening and traveling.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Allen, Tacoma. Memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Humane Society, P.O. Box 9035, Daytona Beach, FL 32120-9035. Woodward, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

William Steiner

SEPT. 5, 1930 -- AUG. 5, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- William Henry "Bill" Steiner, 73, of John Anderson Drive, who retired as a cameraman in the motion picture industry, died Thursday at Indigo Manor, Daytona Beach.

Born in Hackensack, N.J., Mr. Steiner came here in 1985 from Rome, Pa. He was a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees where he won a 50-year membership award in 2000. He also was a member of Motion Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States and Canada and a 40-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He enjoyed learning, playing keyboard, reading, swimming and travel.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Shirley; two stepsons, Richard Morrow, Gilboa, N.Y., and William Knoop, Jacksonville; two stepdaughters, Carol Benedict, Killington, Vt., and Marianne Bleser, Somers, N.Y.; and 11 grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous Intergroup, 345 Beville Road, South Daytona, FL 32119; or to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Todd Towers

JAN. 14, 1973 -- AUG. 4, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Todd A. Towers, 31, of 14th Avenue, the chief pilot for East Flagler Mosquito Control District, died Wednesday in Flagler County from injuries sustained in a helicopter accident.

Mr. Towers, a National Guard veteran of Florida and North Carolina having served as a chief warrant officer, was born in Norfolk, Va., and came here in 2001 from Wrightsville Beach, N.C. He flew Apache AH-64 and UH1 Huey's helicopters for North Carolina National Guard Reconnaissance Air Interstate Detachment RAID TEAM.

A PTA sports director for Festivals in Wrightsville Beach Elementary, he also was a supporter of several surfing associations and was his son, Stone's personal surf coach. He also was the Upward Basketball Head Coach for First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lauren; two sons, Stone and Tanyr, both of New Smyrna Beach; his parents, William and Diane Towers, Chesapeake, Va.; and a sister, Tiffany Towers, New York City. Memorial donations may be made to the National Scholastic Association, attn. Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 495, Huntington Beach, CA 92648. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Fred Weber

NOV. 7, 1921 -- AUG. 4, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Fred W. Weber, 82, of Goodwin Avenue, who retired after 30 years of service from Metropolitan Life Insurance, died Wednesday at home.

Born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, Mr. Weber, an Army veteran of the World War II where he earned four Bronze Stars, came here in 1985 from Virginia. He earned his bachelor's degree from Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio., and was a lifetime member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. He enjoyed sports and reading.

Survivors his wife of 55 years, Dorothy; and two sons, Rick, New Smyrna Beach, and James, Dallas. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.
