DEC. 15, 1917 -- JUNE 20, 2004

DEBARY -- Charles W. Berner, 86, of DeLeon Road, a resident since 1972, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Berner, a retired carpenter, was born in Elgin, Ill., and moved here from Walworth, Wis. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Sanford. Mr. Berner enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ethel; a daughter, Mary Bishop, Port St. Lucie; and two grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

William Butler

JAN. 11, 1933 -- JUNE 19, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- William Butler, 71, of Ocean Grove Drive, retired owneroperator of Southern Resource Mapping, Holly Hill, died Saturday at home.

Mr. Butler, a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, was born in Worland, Mo., and came here in 1965 from Philadelphia. He attended Daytona Beach Community College and was a member of the Florida Land Surveyors and the American Society of Photogrammetry. He enjoyed computers, gardening and genealogy.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Betty; a brother, David, Liberal, Mo.; and a sister, Betty Davis, Joplin, Mo. Memorial donations may be made to Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, 105 Amsden Road, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Lessie Callicott

JAN. 23, 1913 -- JUNE 17, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Lessie B. Callicott, 91, of South Segrave Street, a resident since 1944, died Thursday at Olds Hall-Good Samaritan Center.

Mrs. Callicott, a homemaker, was born in Dothan, Ala., and moved here from Chicago. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, gardening and playing the piano.

Survivors include a son, Robert, Port Orange; three daughters, Barbara Hill, Daytona Beach, Jeanette Carter, Port Orange, and Roxana Hickey, Hartwell, Ga.; a sister, Veleta Brooks, Ocala; 32 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Olds Hall-Good Samaritan Center, 325 S. Segrave St., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Daytona Funeral Home is in charge.

George Cornell

DEC. 23, 1933 -- JUNE 20, 2004

DEBARY -- George Richard Cornell, 70, of Seminole Drive, a former Chicago police officer, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Cornell, an Army veteran, was born in Harvey, Ill., and moved here in 1971 from Chicago. He also worked as a plumber and was a former member of the Chicago Plumbers Union. He enjoyed bowling.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Joyce; two sons, Tony and Gary, both of Fern Park, Ill.; four daughters, Karen Cornell, DeBary, and Kim Powell, Lisa Drummond and Christine McCulley, Casselberry; two brothers, Raymond, Illinois, and Edward, Union Park; six sisters, Betty Bartolini, Elsie Zabraskas, Bernice Deplaris and Nancy Cornell, all of Illinois, Laura Conley, Florida, and Lois Miller, Indiana; and six grandchildren. Altman-Long is in charge.

Clyde Crapo

DEC. 15, 1932 -- JUNE 19, 2004

DELTONA -- Clyde Walter Crapo, 71, of Summit Hill Drive, who retired as a fleet maintenance supervisor after serving 20 years with Seminole County Solid Waste in Sanford, died Saturday at home.

Mr. Crapo, an Air Force veteran, moved to Central Florida in 1950 from his native New Bedford, Mass. He enjoyed camping, fishing and boating.

Survivors include his fiancee, Mary Fulkerson; a son, Clyde Jr., a daughter, Susan White, and a brother, Russell, all of Deltona; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Kay Edwards

OCT. 21, 1938 -- JUNE 21, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Kay Edwards, 65, of Magnolia Loop, who owned and operated Kay's Draperies for 33 years, died Monday at Hospice Care Center.

Mrs. Edwards moved to this area in 1960 from her native Rainelle, W.Va.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Wayne; three sons, Chris Moore, New Smyrna Beach, Stuart Edwards, Ormond Beach and Douglas Edwards, Asheville, N.C.; two daughters, Lynn Bubba, New Smyrna Beach, and Lisa Lapp, Orange Park; two brothers, Lloyd and George Sanford, and a sister, Madeline Martin, all of Rainelle; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Mildred Gordon

DEC. 10, 1919 -- JUNE 21, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Mildred T. Gordon, 84, of Wilmette Avenue, a native of Rochester, N.Y., died Monday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mrs. Gordon, a homemaker, moved here in 1998 from Newport News, Va. She was a member of Congregation B'nai Torah and a co-founder of a breast cancer support group in Newport News. She also was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society Reach to Recovery and the Mary Immaculate Hospital Auxiliary, Newport News. Mrs. Gordon enjoyed playing the organ and piano.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Abel, Ormond Beach; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Russell Keeney Jr.

JULY 22, 1927 -- JUNE 18, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Russell M. Keeney Jr., 76, of 23rd Avenue, a manager for the Locomotion Engineering Department of General Electric before his retirement, died Friday at Horizon Healthcare, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Keeney, a Navy veteran, was born in Hummelstown, Pa., and moved to this area in 1989 from Erie, Pa. He was a member of New Smyrna Beach United Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Keeney, New Smyrna Beach; a sister, Sarah Stowell, Shiremanstown, Pa.; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the United Church of Christ Building Fund, 203 Washington St., New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168. Alavaon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Joseph Kucera

FEB. 11, 1917 -- JUNE 21, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Joseph W. Kucera, 87, of West Lynn Avenue, a supervisor at Grumman Aircraft Corp., Long Island, N.Y., died Monday at home.

Mr. Kucera was a native of Manhattan, N.Y., and moved here in 1975. He enjoyed all kinds of airplanes, bridges and boats.

Survivors include his wife of seven years, Eilene; two sons, Joseph Jr., Medford, N.Y., and Richard, Bainbridge Island, Wash.; four stepsons, Tony Turner, Daytona Beach, Travis Turner, New Smyrna Beach, and Troy and Tracy Turner, both of Deltona; a stepdaughter, Lucy Eber, Atlantic Beach; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Baldauff is in charge.

Look Kwong

OCT. 10, 1924 -- JUNE 19, 2004

DELTONA -- Look Q. Kwong, 79, of East Hancock Drive, a chemist for the Food and Drug Administration, died Saturday at Emory L. Bennett Memorial Veterans Nursing Home, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Kwong, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in China and moved here in 1979 from Chicago. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. He attended the University of Illinois. Most recently he was working on a project to lower a person's blood sugar. He previously worked on projects making bombs and explosives for the U.S. government.

No known immediate relatives survive. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Lawrence Lambert

MAY 8, 1943 -- JUNE 20, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Lawrence Oliver Lambert, 61, of Orange Avenue, a retired long distance telephone manager for AT&T, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Lambert, a veteran of the Marine Corp Reserves, was born in Boston. He moved to this area in 2002 from Atlanta. He was a member of the Church of the Epiphany.

Survivors include his wife of two years, Karen; a son, Joseph, Port Orange; two daughters, Aime Clark, Manchester, N.H., and Bonnie Lambert, Reno, Nev.; and a brother, Joseph, Mesa, Ariz. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Geraldine Lovelace

MAY 29, 1928 -- JUNE 20, 2004

DELTONA -- Geraldine Lovelace, 76, of Commerce Avenue, a native of South Boston, Va., died Sunday at home.

Mrs. Lovelace, a homemaker, lived in DeLand before moving here in 1994 from DeLand.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Lovelace, Maryland, and Earl Boxley, Jessup, Md.; a daughter, Etherline Cunningham, Deltona; and two grandchildren. Newlife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

John Miller Jr.

NOV. 19, 1943 -- JUNE 18, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- John W. Miller Jr., 60, of Ridgewood Avenue, a native of Seattle, died Friday at Manor on the Green, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Miller, a Marine Corps veteran, moved here in 1994 from Cincinnati. He worked as a chef and was a member of the Eagles. Mr. Miller enjoyed stock car racing and playing pool.

Narcisia Morgan

NOV. 1, 1912 -- JUNE 14, 2004

WINTER HAVEN -- Narcisia C. Morgan, 92, of Winter Haven, a former resident of DeLand, died June 14 at Life Care Center, Winter Haven.

Mrs. Morgan, a homemaker, was born in Brownsville, Texas. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, DeLand. She enjoyed poetry, orchids and paintings.

Survivors include a son, Vernon, Frostproof; a daughter, Mary Anderson, DeLeon Springs; a brother, Jesus Cuellar, Tampa; a sister, Rosa Perez, Brownsville; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
