Carrie Wojtkowtak

MAY 17, 1947 -- JUNE 11, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Carrie M. "Candy" Wojtkowtak, 57, of Lemon Twist Lane, an owner of a janitorial firm, died Friday at Health Central Hospital, Ocoee.

Mrs. Wojtkowtak was born in Little Washington, Pa., and moved here in the 1970s from Jacksonville. She attended All Saints Lutheran Church. Named Volunteer of the Year in 1995, she helped with the public schools VIPS program and Spruce Creek Color Guard and was a member of the Sugar Mill Elementary School PTA.

Survivors include her husband of 17 years, Daniel; a daughter, Cory Wojtkowtak, Port Orange; and three sisters, Pam, Tryon, N.C., and Denise and Polly, both of Jacksonville. Phoenix Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Carlton Bowens

OCT. 3, 1952 -- JUNE 10, 2004

DELAND -- Carlton Delmas Bowens, 51, of Lakeview Drive, a native of DeLand, died Thursday at home.

Mr. Bowens was a lifetime resident of West Volusia County.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Brown, DeLand, and Carlton Jr., Pennsylvania; a brother, Paul, DeLand; and two grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Alice Carr

APRIL 10, 1921 -- JUNE 10, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Alice A. Carr, 83, of Beaver Lake Circle, who retired after 39 years with Kellogg Co., died Thursday at home.

Ms. Carr moved to this area in 1980 from Battle Creek, Mich. She was a member of Harbor Baptist Church.

Survivors include her companion, Wally Godlewski; two sons, Jerry and Richard Fox, and a daughter, Mary Pierce, all of Daytona Beach; five brothers, Harold Pike, Globe, Ariz., Junior and Bob Pike, both of Tucson, Ariz., Douglas Pike, Oregon, and Harry Pike, Michigan; a sister, Donna Giringer, Battle Creek; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Pinello, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Robert Doutt

JAN. 20, 1935 -- JUNE 4, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Robert Doutt, 69, of Oleander Avenue, died June 4 at home.

No known immediate relatives survive. Altman-Long, DeBary, is in charge.

Dennis Downs

NOV. 11, 1921 -- JUNE 10, 2004

DELTONA -- Dennis F. Downs, 82, of Weatherford Drive, a locksmith for Western Electric AT&T, retiring in 1977 after 33 years of service, died Thursday at home.

Mr. Downs, a member of the Merchant Marines during World War II, was born in Saranac, N.Y., and came here in 1983 from New York. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Community, Elks Lodge 2739 and American Legion Post 255 in Lake Helen.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruth; two sons, Michael, Crane, Mont., Thomas, Fernandina Beach; three brothers, Daniel and John, both of Plattsburgh, and James, West Chazy, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Frances Dunham

JULY 7, 1912 -- JUNE 10, 2004

DEBARY -- Frances B. Dunham, 91, of Caddie Drive, a resident since 2000, died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mrs. Dunham, a homemaker, was born in Georgetown, Ohio. She enjoyed sewing and ceramics.

Survivors include a son, William, DeBary; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 111 N. Frederick Ave., Suite 100, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

William Fitzpatrick

APRIL 11, 1920 -- JUNE 11, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- William James Fitzpatrick, 84, of Treetop Circle, a physical science research associate with IBM in Yorktown, N.Y., before his retirement in 1986, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mr. Fitzpatrick, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and moved to the area in 1986 from Mahopac, N.Y. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Palm Coast, and Halifax Genealogy Society. Mr. Fitzpatrick enjoyed computers, music and chess.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Margaret; two sons, William Jr., Libertyville, Ill., and Kevin, West Bloomfield, Mich.; a daughter, Barbara Pinney, Tulsa, Okla.; and six grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Library Access Inc., 420 Platt St., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Newlife Cremation is in charge.

Brenda Gray

MARCH 6, 1959 -- JUNE 6, 2004

DELAND -- Brenda Gray, 45, of West Hogle Avenue, a native of Hartford, Conn., died Sunday at home.

Mrs. Gray, a homemaker, moved to this area in 1987 from Ledyard, Conn. She was an avid New England Patriots fan.

Survivors include a son, Christopher Ajemian, Deltona; a daughter, Samantha Ajemian, DeLand; her mother, Mildred Doolan, Hebron, Conn.; a brother, Thomas Doolan, Amston, Conn.; a sister, Cheryl Harduby, Sebastian; and her grandmother, Cora Hannington, Morrill, Maine. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

William Gray

FEB. 16, 1965 -- JUNE 10, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- William Robert Gray, 39, of Oak Park Circle, a manger for Walgreen's, died Thursday from injuries sustained in an accident on Ridgewood Avenue in Holly Hill.

Mr. Gray was born in Monterey, Calif., and moved to this area in 1988 from Minnesota.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Gray, and a brother, Sean Gray, both of Orlando; a and a sister, Wendy Hagin. Pinello, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Shane Haddigan

SEPT. 11, 2000 -- JUNE 9, 2004

ODESSA -- Shane Patrick Haddigan, 3, of Odessa, the son of Ronald Vinciulla, Port Orange, and the brother of Amy Maddigan, DeLand, and Brenda Brinkerhoff, Port Orange, died Wednesday at Community Hospital, New Port Richey, as the result of a fire that also took the life of his mother.

Baby Shane was born in Brooksville, and moved one month ago to Odessa.

Additional survivors include two brothers, James and Marty Headd, both of Massachusetts; a sister, Roberta Boudreau, Framingham, Mass.; his paternal grandmother, Camella Vinciulla, Waltham, Mass.; and his maternal grandmother, Arlene Haddigan, Massachusetts. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Myrtle Oldham

JUNE 17, 1916 -- JUNE 10, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Myrtle Oldham, 87, of Nature View Circle, a native of Macon County, Ga., died Thursday at an assisted living facility in Edgewater.

Mrs. Oldham, a homemaker, moved to this area in 2001 from Scottsdale, Ariz. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gallatin, Tenn.

Survivors include two sons, Jim, Port Orange, and Wayne, Houston; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Robert Pajari

NOV. 24, 1927 -- JUNE 10, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Robert A. Pajari, 76, of Durant Drive, who retired from Lock Furniture in Leominster, Mass., died Thursday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Pajari was born in Littleton, Mass., and came here in 1993 from Lunenburg, Mass. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he also served in the Air Force and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fitchburg, Mass.

Survivors include a son, John, Orange, Mass.; two step-daughters, Tobiana Caraway, Port Orange, and Julie Seiger, Waynesboro, Va.; two brothers, Donald, New Hampshire, and Frank, Fitchburg; three sisters, Ruth Foley, Leominster, and Irene Murphy and Shirley Hannish, both of Fitchburg; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Charles Petri

NOV. 7, 1921 -- JUNE 10, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Charles Petri, 82, of Heather Lane, who retired after 43 years of service from Grumman Aerospace, Bethpage, N.Y., died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Born in Hauppauge, N.Y., Mr. Petri, an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, came here in 1989 from Long Island, N.Y. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Holly Hill. Mr. Petri enjoyed square and round dancing.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Terry; two sons, Daniel, Bedford, N.Y., and Lawrence, Tenafly, N.J.; a brother, Jacob, Greenville, S.C.; and five grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society - Central Florida Chapter, 3319 Maguire Blvd., Suite 101, Orlando, FL 32803. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Robert Shipley Jr.

MARCH 5, 1917 -- JUNE 10, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Robert C. Shipley Jr., 87, of Pelican Bay Drive, a former realtor in Silver Spring, Md., died Thursday at home.

Mr. Shipley, a World War II veteran, moved here in 1980 from Washington, D.C. He also formerly worked for the U.S. Treasury Department as an appraiser for the U.S. Government. Mr. Shipley moved here in 1980 from Washington, D.C., where he was a an executive for the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include his companion, Pat Tapper; a brother, Charles, Beaver Falls, Pa.; two sisters, Peggy Armbrust, St. Clairsville, Ohio, and Betty Edwards, Columbus, Ohio. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.
