James Robertson Jr.

JAN. 12, 1922 -- MARCH 28, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- James L. Robertson Jr., 82, of New Castle Court, a retired stock broker with Raymond James, Daytona Beach, died Sunday at Daytona Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Robertson, a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Seabees, came here in 1923 from his native Jacksonville. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church, Daytona Beach, American Legion Post 120 and the Holly Hill Police Pension Board. He enjoyed playing golf and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Georgia; three sons, Gordon, Port Orange, Tommy, Bunnell, and Jimmy, Amelia Island; three daughters, Vickie Foley, Ormond Beach, Vivian Matheson, Las Vegas, and Jamie Winkleman, Winter Garden; a brother, Robert, Ormond Beach; a sister, Olive Phillips, Port Orange; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Pinello, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Martha Rogers

MARCH 24, 1927 -- MARCH 29, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Martha H. Rogers, 77, of University Circle, a resident since 1969, died Monday at home.

Mrs. Rogers, a homemaker, was born in Winchester, Ky., and moved to this area from Atlanta. She enjoyed bridge, reading and cooking.

Survivors include a son, Paul, Nashville, Tenn.; five daughters, Pamela Masters, Ormond Beach, Nancye Jones, Orange City, Cynthia Rogers, Apopka, Lynne Birdsall, Boynton Beach, and Sharon Rogers, Atlanta; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 300, Daytona Beach, FL 32119. Haigh-Black is in charge.

Marvin Sams Jr.

MARCH 5, 1931 -- MARCH 28, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Marvin Sams Jr., 73, of Pinyon Lane, who owned Sam's Crane Rental, Holly Hill, before his retirement in 1989, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Sams, an Army veteran of the Korean War, was born in Atkinson County, Ga., and moved here in 1952 from Alabama. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a 25-year member of Local No. 263 Operating Engineers.

Survivors include a son, James, Astor; two daughters, Deborah Tyre, Ormond Beach, and Phyllis Wetzel, Daytona Beach; a brother, "Cowboy, " Astor; two sisters, Faye Penney, Tennessee, and Sue Holmes, Alabama; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 300, Daytona Beach, FL 32119. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

James Scott

OCT. 10, 1911 -- MARCH 28, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- James W. Scott, 92, of Ridgewood Avenue, a retired maintenance worker, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Scott was born in Milledgeville, Ga., and came here in 1964 from Tallahassee. He enjoyed playing bridge, reading and cooking.

Survivors include two sons, Carroll, Dublin, Ga., and James, Monticello; and eight grandchildren. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Marianne Stokes

AUG. 31, 1927 -- MARCH 29, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Marianne H. Stokes, 76, of North Causeway, a resident since 2003, died Monday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Stokes, a homemaker, was born in Dawson Springs, Ky. She came to this area from Leesburg, where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Elks Auxiliary and volunteered at the Brannon Center, New Smyrna Beach. A boating enthusiast for many years, Mrs. Stokes enjoyed deep-sea fishing.

Survivors include a son, Doug Hodson, New Smyrna Beach; a daughter, Ann Bachmann, Dayton, Ohio; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1101 N. Lake Destiny Road, Suite 415, Maitland FL 32751. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Shavarsh Tarpinian

SEPT. 3, 1921 -- MARCH 28, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Shavarsh John Francis Tarpinian, 82, of North Atlantic Avenue, a retired hotel desk manager, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center.

Born in Springfield, Mass., Mr. Tarpinian moved here in 1953 from Washington, D.C. He enjoyed bowling and coin collecting and was a Florida Gator fan.

Survivors include his wife, Araxie; a son, Alexander, Austin, Texas; and a daughter, Hasmig Davis, and a sister, Ardemis Vartanian, both of York, Pa. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 412 S. Palmetto Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Theodore Tedros

JUNE 25, 1910 -- MARCH 28, 2004

DELAND -- Theodore Z. Tedros, 93, of Tall Pines Terrace, a former teacher at T. Dewitt Taylor High School, Pierson, died Sunday at Deerfoot Manor.

Born in Cairo, Egypt, Mr. Tedros came to this area in 1961 from Tallahassee. He also taught in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at Florida State University and Florida Military School and College, DeLand. Mr. Tedros earned his bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University and his doctorate from Florida State University. He also taught summer courses at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. He was a member of National Council of Math Teachers, Phi Delta Kappa and the Florida Association, Daytona Beach Board and National Association of Realtors. He was listed in the Who's Who in America, Education, the World and Finance.

Survivors include his wife, Jerrie; a son, Samuel, DeLand; and three sisters, Loutifi Girgis and Nemat Yostos, both of Cairo, and Hekmat Daoud, Alexandria, Egypt. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Robert Kelly

AUG. 8, 1923 -- MARCH 28, 2004

DELAND -- Robert C. Kelly, 80, of Knot Way, a retired Navy chief petty officer, died Sunday at Deerfoot Manor.

Mr. Kelly, a veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War, was born in Hastings, Pa., and came here in 1991 from Hollywood, Md.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; two stepsons, John North, Titusville, and Mark North, Tampa; a stepdaughter, Bonni Kyp, Orange City; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Gwendolyn Lamere

DEC. 28, 1915 -- MARCH 27, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Gwendolyn K. Lamere, 88, of East Graves Avenue, a secretary with Traveler's Insurance in Manchester, N.J., for 22 years before her retirement, died Saturday at Central Florida Regional Hospital, Sanford.

Mrs. Lamere, who also co-owned the Lamere Insurance Agency in Littleton, N.H., was born in Miami. She came here in 1979 from Manchester. Mrs. Lamere was a retired skiing instructor at Cranmore Mountains.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris Hobart, Grafton, N.H.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Lankford, Orange City, is in charge.

Ronald LeRoy

JUNE 11, 1922 -- MARCH 27, 2004

DELTONA -- Ronald B. LeRoy, 81, of Dixie Belle Avenue, an electrical engineer for the Ford Motor Co. for more than 40 years before his retirement, died Saturday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial.

Mr. LeRoy, an Army veteran of World War II, came to this area in 1982 from his native Detroit. He was a member of Deltona United Church of Christ and the American Legion. Mr. LeRoy was an avid bowler.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Josephine; two stepsons, Harold Allen, Alexandria, Va., and Jim Allen, Jacksonville; 11 stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Maria Lima

AUG. 19, 1931 -- MARCH 27, 2004

DELTONA -- Maria Lima, 72, of Kimberly Drive, a native of Palermo, Sicily, died Saturday at Deltona Healthcare.

Mrs. Lima, a homemaker, came here in 1993 from Queens, N.Y. She was a member of St. Clare Catholic Community. Mrs. Lima enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Gandolfo; a son, Angelo, and a daughter, Joanne Canicatti, both of Deltona; four brothers, Pino Gagliardotto, Italy, Nino and Giovanni Gagliardotto, both of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Gandolfo Gagliardotto, Queens; two sisters, Sylvia Tornetta, Chapel Hill, and Domenica Grisafi, Queens; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, West Volusia Unit, 218-A E. New York Ave., DeLand, FL 32724. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Dean Lindquist

MAY 5, 1925 -- MARCH 27, 2004

DELTONA -- Dean P. Lindquist, 78, of South Wellington Drive, a former owner of service stations in Danbury and Westport, Conn., died Saturday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mr. Lindquist, a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, was born in West Endfield, Maine, and came here in 1985 from Winslow, Maine. He also owned the Siboney Terrace resort at Candlewood Lake in Connecticut. Mr. Lindquist was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Deltona. A Civil War buff, he enjoyed trout fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Florence; a son, Gary Dwight, New Fairfield, Conn.; two brothers, Raymond, Huntington, W.Va., and Irving, Lyman, Maine; five sisters, Emma Clark, Deltona, Clara Tilton, Lincoln, Maine, June Cummings, Kennebunk, Maine, Anna Axelsen, Portland, Maine, and Doris Rheaume, Syracuse, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Ernest Magoon

NOV. 29, 1918 -- MARCH 27, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Ernest H. Magoon, 85, of Heritage Drive, a department head for the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard before his retirement in 1979, died Saturday at home.

Mr. Magoon, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Newmarket , N.H., and came here in 1987 from Maple Shade, N.J. He also worked for the Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Moose Lodge in Dover, N.H.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Margery; a son, David, Chicago; three daughters, Mary Iams, Indianapolis, Laurie Punch, Williamston, Mich., and Jennifer Gale, Swedesboro, N.J.; a brother, Bernard, North Syracuse, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren. Daytona Funeral Home is in charge.
