James Jones
SEPT. 17, 1950 -- AUG. 1, 2003
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- James Jones, 52, of Charlotte, a former Daytona Beach resident, died Friday at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.
Born in Barnswell, S.C., Mr. Jones, an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, lived in Daytona Beach as a child. He lived in Hollywood until moving to Charlotte in 1996. A 1969 graduate of the former Campbell High School, Mr. Jones was a counselor for a mental rehabilitation center in Charlotte. He enjoyed photography and travel.
Survivors include a son, Jason, Beaumont, Texas; his mother, Mary Jones, Daytona Beach; a brother, Les Robinson, Pompano Beach, three sisters, Gloria Price, Doretha Baker and Loretta Jones, all of Daytona Beach; and a grandchild. Gainous is in charge.

Kathryn Jones
NOV. 27, 1915 -- JULY 25, 2003
DELAND -- Kathryn Kerrvish Jones, 87, of Chipola Avenue, a retired department supervisor for Burdines Department Store, died July 25 at Florida Hospital-DeLand.
Mrs. Jones was born in Columbia Station, Ohio, and moved here in 1965 from Beachwood Village, Ohio.
Survivors include a daughter, K.C. Rutkowski, San Antonio; a brother, Andrew Columbus II, Grafton, Ohio; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Johnny Lewis
DEC. 13, 1944 -- AUG. 3, 2003
DAYTONA BEACH -- Johnny T. Lewis, 58, of Imperial Drive, a former construction worker for J.K. Shirah & Sons, Ormond Beach, died Sunday at Daytona Beach Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Lewis, who also worked at the Mardi Gras Pier, moved here in 1973 from his birthplace, Homerville, Ga. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Survivors include a son, Mark, Maryland; two daughters, Janice Johnson, Daytona Beach, and Charlyne Poole, Homerville; three brothers, Willie and Sandy Richardson, both of Homerville, and Karey, Waycross, Ga.; seven sisters, Hazel Magee, Dallas, Angela Dorsey, Homerville, Vera Breland and Abigail Richardson, both of Gulfport, Miss., Phyllis Richardson, Nashville, Tenn., Helen Lewis, New York, and Mary Anne White, Alandale, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and his companion, Charlie Mae Johnson, Daytona Beach. Daytona Funeral Home is in charge.

William Moore
APRIL 2, 1941 -- AUG. 4, 2003
HOLLY HILL -- William L. Moore, 62, of Bender Avenue, a resident since 1986, died Monday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Mr. Moore, a retired maintenance man, was born in Rochester, N.Y., and moved to this area from Erie, Pa.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Patricia; two sons, Randy, Daytona Beach, and Jeffrey, Port Orange; two daughters, Jacque Goodson, San Diego, and Robin Moore, Portland, Ore.; two brothers, Ronald, Rochester, and John, Erie; six sisters, Laura Haralarbou, Mount Morris, N.Y., Esther Hoh, Erie, and Elizabeth Eberhart, Lenore Moore, Janet Murray and Carolyn Moore, all of Rochester; and seven grandchildren. All State Cremation, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Lawrence Olmstead
NOV. 6, 1929 -- AUG. 2, 2003
PORT ORANGE -- Lawrence A. "Larry" Olmstead, 73, of North Willow, who retired in 1988 after 36 years as a heavy equipment operator with Frantz and Russell Inc., Jamestown, died Saturday at the Woman's Christian Association Hospital, Jamestown, N.Y.
Mr. Olmstead, an Army veteran, was born in Sinclairville, N.Y. He also was a summer resident of Frewsburg, N.Y. He was a member of Westminster by-the-Sea Presbyterian Church, Port Orange, and First Covenant Church, Jamestown. Other Jamestown memberships include Koininia, and he served as past president of Southern Tier Kidney Association.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Diane; two sons, Randy and Riley, both of Jamestown; two daughters, Debra Pastor, Cassadaga, N.Y., and Darlene Macri, Jacksonville; two brothers, Edward, Atlanta, and Mark Wagner, Westfield, N.Y.; three sisters, Hazel Frantz, Frewsburg, Edith Blair, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Florence Williams, Batavia, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to WCA Hospital, Palliative Care, 207 Foote Ave., Jamestown, N.Y. 14701. Lind Funeral Home, Jamestown, is in charge.

James Pistana
JUNE 10, 1915 -- AUG. 3, 2003
ORMOND BEACH -- James J. Pistana, 88, of Sugarberry Circle, a retired vendor for Sperry Rand, died Sunday at home.
Born in New York City, Mr. Pistana moved here in 1980 from Long Island, New York. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, 4th degree.
Survivors include two sons, Neil, Ormond Beach, and James, Richmond, Va.; a brother, Robert, Tallahassee, five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Leann Politza
JAN. 2, 1978 -- AUG. 4, 2003
DELAND -- Leann Marie Politza, 25, of McGregor Road, a restaurant manager, drowned Monday when she fell off a paddleboat into Lake Helen.
Ms. Politza, a 1996 graduate of Pine Ridge High School, was born in Bloomsburg, Pa., and moved here in 1993 from Williamson, N.Y. She enjoyed showing horses.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Deborah and Tim Hayes, DeLand; her father, Edward Politza, Lyons, N.Y.; two brothers, Andrew Politza, DeLand, and Edward Politza III, Rochester, N.Y.; and two stepsisters, Kimberly Hargrave and Christie Hayes, both of Rochester. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Daisy Rodriguez
JULY 24, 1959 - Aug. 3, 2003
DAYTONA BEACH -- Daisy Rodriguez, 44, of North Atlantic Avenue, a housekeeper with Maverick Resorts, died Sunday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., Mrs. Rodriguez moved here in 1998 from Sacramento, Calif.
Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Jose; two sons, Anthony and Thomas, and a daughter, Lisa Rodriguez, all of Daytona Beach; and a brother, Abraham Anderson, and a sister, Arlean Anderson, both of California. Carpenter-Curry, DeLand, is in charge.

Stanley Roper
SEPT. 2, 1929 -- AUG. 2, 2003
DELAND -- Stanley S. Roper, 73, of South Oak Park Drive, a native of Washington, D.C., died Saturday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.
Mr. Roper, an Army veteran of the Korean War who participated in rifle competitions, moved here in 2002 from his birthplace. He was a retired automobile salesman. He was a member of St. Jane Francis DeChantel Catholic Church and the American Legion Post No. 105, both in Bethesda, Md., and AARP. An avid Washington Redskins and University of Maryland sports fan, Mr. Roper also enjoyed skeet shooting.
Survivors included his wife, Doris, a son, Stanley Jr., DeLand; a brother, Billy Roper, Washington, D.C.; and 10 grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Edward Rowley
MARCH 31, 1916 -- AUG. 4, 2003
ORMOND BEACH -- The Rev. Edward R. Rowley Jr., 87, of Big Buck Trail, who retired as a pastor of Southminster Presbyterian Church, Daytona Beach, died Monday at home.
Rev. Rowley was born in Newark, N.J., and moved to this area in 1951 from Cincinnati. He served in several area churches, including First Presbyterian Church and Highlands Presbyterian Church, both in Daytona Beach, as well as churches in Orlando and Ohio. Following his retirement, he served as interim pastor in many churches in Volusia County and the Orlando area. He began the first local drive-in worship service in the old Volusia Drive-in Theater. Rev. Rowley was a charter member and former president of the Civitan Club and was a former member of the Salvation Army, the United Way and YMCA boards. He was active in Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball and served as league president for the Men's Slow Pitch Softball Leagues.
Rev. Rowley earned a bachelor's degree and master's degree from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Esther; a son, Edward III "Ned, " Ormond Beach; three daughters, Susan Rowley, Daytona Beach Shores, Hilary Rowley, Ormond Beach, and Sharon Vodenicker, Orlando; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Highlands Presbyterian Church, 950 Derbyshire Road, Daytona Beach, FL 32117. Baggett & Summers, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Jessie Ruby
AUG. 13, 1913 -- AUG. 1, 2003
DELAND -- Jessie Marie Ruby, 89, of Navel Court, a 29-year resident, died Friday at Indigo Manor, Daytona Beach.
Mrs. Ruby, a homemaker, was born in Lawrence County, Ky., and moved here from St. Albans, W.Va. She was a member of Rehobeth Baptist Church, St. Albans.
Survivors include a son, James, Port St. Lucie; a daughter, Nancy Eubanks, DeLand; two sisters, her twin, Bessie Rogers, and Maxine Chandler, both of St. Albans; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Justin Shrock
JUNE 23, 1985 -- AUG. 3, 2003
DEBARY -- Justin A. Shrock, 18, of Linda Vista Street, a native of DeLand, died Sunday at the home of his girlfriend, Christina McKenzie, in Orange City. An autopsy is pending.
Mr. Shrock was a cook. He enjoyed wrestling and sports cars.
Survivors include his mother, Jeri Shrock, and his maternal grandmother, Joyce Morris, both of DeBary. Altman-Long is in charge.

Alvada Barlow
APRIL 9, 1948 -- AUG. 1, 2003
PORT ORANGE -- Alvada C. Barlow, 55, of Indigo Court, a resident since 1986, died Friday at home.
Mrs. Barlow, a homemaker, was born in Peoria, Ill., and moved here from Cocoa.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Lee; a son, Lee Jr., Port Orange; two daughters, Diana Villa, New Smyrna Beach, and Michelle Boyle, Port Orange; two brothers, Jesse Carver, Titusville, and Red Carver, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Nancy Carver, Port Orange; and three grandchildren. Maurice Belknap
FEB. 15, 1947 -- AUG. 1, 2003
DELTONA -- Maurice Joseph Belknap, 56, of James Avenue, a detention deputy for the Seminole County Sheriff Department for 13 years, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.
Mr. Belknap, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart, was born in Hornell, N.Y., and moved to this area in 1998 from Lake Mary. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans, all in Sanford.
Survivors include his wife of six years, Charlene; a son, Jason, Atlanta; a stepson, Jacob Miller, Indianapolis; and a brother, Martin, Colorado. Allen-Summerhill, Orange City, is in charge.
