ORMOND BEACH -- Gloria H. Lawrence, 84, of Vanderbilt Drive, who retired as a secretary for the City of New Haven, Conn., died Wednesday at home.
Ms. Lawrence was born in New Britain, Conn., and moved here in 1986 from Branford, Conn.
Survivors include two sons, Dana, Ormond Beach, and Paul, Branford; a daughter, Jane Lawrence, Portland, Ore.; a brother, Albert Haddock, Branford; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Ormond Funeral Home is in charge.

Anita Neilands
JAN. 2, 1957 -- JULY 25, 2003
DAYTONA BEACH -- Anita Ruth Neilands, 46, of Derbyshire Road, a resident since 1975, died Friday at Halifax Medical Center.
Mrs. Neilands, a homemaker, moved to this area from her native Ellenville, N.Y.
Survivors include two sons, Nicholas, Holly Hill, and Donald, Palm Coast; a daughter, Jennifer Reider, Melbourne; and a grandchild. New Life Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Thomas Niebieski
JULY 29, 1919 -- JULY 25, 2003
WARNERS, N.Y. -- Thomas J. Niebieski, 83, of Warners, a former winter resident of Port Orange, died Friday at Community General Hospital, Warners.
Mr. Niebieski, an Army veteran of World War II who earned a Purple Heart, was born in Marcellus, N.Y. He worked in the hammer shop of Crucible Steel for 39 years before his retirement. He volunteered for the Port Orange Police Department and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include two sons, Reginald, Phoenix, and Phillip, Florida; a daughter, Bonnie Shepard, Warners; and a sister, Mary Montague, Marcellus; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Bagozzi Twins Funeral Home, Solvay, N.Y., is in charge.

Maurice Picard
AUG. 25, 1931 -- JULY 24, 2003
SPRUCE CREEK FLY-IN -- Maurice E. Picard, 71, a captain for Delta Airlines, retiring after 34 years of service, died Thursday at Orlando Regional Lucerne Hospital, Orlando, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in February.
Mr. Picard, a native of Lowell, Mass. and part-time resident of Pelham, N.H., was a veteran of the Air National Guard where he was a pilot with the 102nd Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Logan's Airport. He formerly was a pilot for Northeast Airlines. He was a graduate of Boston University College of Industrial Engineering and New England Aircraft School. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Pelham, N.H., and a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and Sea Plane Pilots Association and a former member of the Lion's Club, Pelham.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Joanne; two sons, David and John, both of Pelham; two brothers, Paul, Wakefield, Mass., and Richard, Pelham, N.H.; and two sisters, Lorraine Mireault and Lucille Sousa, both of Lowell. Archambault Funeral Home, Lowell, is in charge.

Geraldine Ptak
DEC. 21, 1924 -- JULY 26, 2003
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Geraldine M. Ptak, 78, of Red Oak Circle, a resident since 1993, died Saturday at home.
Mrs. Ptak, a homemaker, moved to this area from her native Highlands, N.J. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Vietnam Gold Star Mothers, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. She enjoyed knitting, shuffleboard, bingo and travel.
Survivors include four sons, Andrew, Highlands, Greg, Langhorn, Pa., Peter, Red Banks, N.J., and William, Jacksonville; six daughters, MaryAnn Stryker, Watsonville, Calif., Eileen Feliccia, Arnold, Md., Anne Bremmer, Point Pleasant, N.J., Joan Holloway, Palm Dale, Calif., Peggy Maloy, Springfield, Ga., and Karen Noonan, Los Angeles; 18 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father Donlon Dr., New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168. Baldwin Brothers is in charge.

Christopher Tagliaboski
MARCH 8, 1978 -- JULY 24, 2003
PALM COAST -- Christopher J. Tagliaboski, 25, of Parkview Drive, a resident since 1984, died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Flagler after being taken there from the Flagler County Stewart Marchman Center. An autopsy is pending.
Mr. Tagliaboski, a carpenter, moved to this area from his birthplace, Williamsport, Pa. He enjoyed football and basketball.
Survivors include his mother, Kim Wales, his father, John, a brother, Matthew, a stepsister, Stephanie Wales, his stepfather, John Wales, Palm Coast, and maternal grandparents, Pat and Don Barth, all of Palm Coast; and his paternal grandparents, John and Barb Tagliaboski, Belfont, Pa. Coastal Cremation is in charge.

Frances Terry
JUNE 11, 1916 -- JULY 27, 2003
HOLLY HILL -- Frances D. Terry, 87, of Flagler Lane, a resident since 1996, died Sunday at Bishop's Glen Health Center.
Mrs. Terry, a homemaker and retired teacher, was born in Brundidge, Ala., and moved here from Lake City.
Survivors include a daughter Miriam Collier, Ormond Beach; and a granddaughter. Guerry-Sherill, Lake City, is in charge.

Mary Van Dam
MAY 5, 1920 -- JULY 28, 2003
DELAND -- Mary K. Van Dam, 83, of East New York Avenue, a native of Melbourne, died Monday at University Center-East.
Ms. Van Dam, a retired data processing clerk, moved here in 1998 from Eustis. She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES).
Survivors include Wayne Bostic, Ormond Beach, who provided for her care. Carpenter-Curry, DeLand, is in charge.

Betty Wellersdieck
JUNE 13, 1934 -- JULY 27, 2003
PORT ORANGE -- Betty Wellersdieck, 69, of Sugar Plum Lane, a native of Mineola, N.Y., died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Mrs. Wellersdieck moved here in 2000 from Sunnyvale, Calif. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and a local travel club. She enjoyed gardening, reading, computers and going to the movies.
Survivors include two sons, Jim, Port Orange, and Jack, Medford, N.Y.; a daughter, Jan Crosby, St. Simons Island, Ga.; a sister, Natalie Strauss, Port Orange; and five grandchildren. Cardwell & Maloney is in charge.

Ardena Wellington
NOV. 10, 1930 -- JULY 25, 2003
DEBARY -- Ardena S. Wellington, 72, of Park Lane, a former registered nurse, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Altamonte, Altamonte Springs.
Born in Baltimore, Mrs. Wellington moved to this area in 1987 from Cape Cod, Mass.
Survivors include her husband, David; a stepdaughter, Karen Mack, New York City; three brothers, Ralph, Raymond and Robert Godsey, and a sister, Regina Godsey, all of Baltimore; and a grandchild. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

James Whittet Jr.
DEC. 19, 1934 -- JULY 27, 2003
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- James G. "Jim' Whittet Jr., 68, of North Street, a resident since 1980, died Sunday at home.
Mr. Whittet, a Navy veteran of the Korean War, was born in Staten Island, N.Y., and moved to this area from Charleston, S.C. He retired as an advertiser in the newspaper and television industries. He was a member of United Church of Christ. Mr. Whittet enjoyed travel, gardening, fishing and cooking.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy; a son, James III, Ponce Inlet; a daughter, Cheryl Hunter, Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Robert, Marshall Creek, Pa.; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129; or to United Church of Christ, 203 Washington St., New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168. John Prevatt
SEVILLE -- John Fredrick Prevatt, 42, of Lake Juanita Road, a fern farmer, died Tuesday at home.
Mr. Prevatt, a Navy veteran, was born in Bunnell, and was a lifetime resident of the area. He was a fan of Elvis Presley, Miami Dolphins and the Atlanta Braves.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Wanell and Leonard Alt, DeLand; two brothers, George Jr., Seville, and Albert, DeLand; a stepbrother, Jeff Alt, Miami; and four sisters, Mary and Sandra Prevatt, both of Seville, Teresa Prevatt, Lake Mary, and Diane Prevatt, San Mateo. Clayton Frank & Sons, Crescent City, is in charge.

Vincent Rasmussen
WINTER PARK -- Vincent Marvin Rasmussen, 83, whose daughters live in New Smyrna Beach and Oak Hill, died Saturday at Florida Hospital-Winter Park.
Mr. Rasmussen, who retired from the Army in 1965, was born in Greely, Colo. He moved to this area in 1972 from Utah. He also was a Navy and National Guard veteran serving in the Korean War as an advisor. He graduated from Wasatch Academy with honors.
Survivors include his wife, Helga, Winter Park; a son, Marvin, Winter Park; three daughters, Linda Payne, Oak Hill, and Shaunna Wilson and Debbie Cubbedge, both of New Smyrna Beach; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. National Cremation Society, Winter Park, is in charge.

Audrey Register
ORMOND BEACH -- Audrey Aline Stafford Register, 84, of South Beach Street, a resident since 1958, died Wednesday at Bridgeview Center.
Mrs. Register, a homemaker, was born in Laurens County, Ga. She moved to this area from Tallahassee. She enjoyed puzzles, bingo and traveling.
Survivors include five sons, Marvin and Wayne, both of DeLeon Springs, Jimmie, New Smyrna Beach, Benny, DeLand, and Leon, Lake Como; four daughters, Brenda Fleischbein, Ormond Beach, Gail Sheets, DeLand, Barbara Preising, Oviedo, and Dale Husted, Mobile, Ala.; a sister, Pearl Woods, Macon, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Carpenter-Curry, DeLand, is in charge.

Rodger Rose
ORMOND BEACH -- Rodger Louis Rose, 71, of Palmer Drive, a retired self-employed painter, died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital-Ormond Beach.
Mr. Palmer, an Army veteran, was born in Detroit and moved to this area in 1990 from Michigan. He was a volunteer for the Port Orange Fire Department and Easter Seals. He also was involved with Toys for Tots where he played Santa Claus for the children.
Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Joanna; four sons, Craig, Morie and Rod, all of Michigan, and Mark, Arthur, Tenn.; a stepson, Charlie Hess, Kingsport, Tenn.; a daughter, Paula Geiger, New Smyrna Beach; two stepdaughters, Theresa Miller, Ormond Beach, and Wendy Grizzle, Kingsport; a brother, Bill, Homosassa Springs; four sisters, Bea Fischer, Oak Hill, Gloria Siddell, Fort Myers, Sandy Hart, Houston, and Eva Miller, Greenville, S.C.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Tri-County Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.
